      Actually, that ship is just like Padme x Anakin, because they have the same difference between each other. Padme is 5 years older than Anakin and Anakin is 5 years older than Ahsoka, and given that Padme didn't come off as creepy as Leonardo DiCaprio(the actor who almost got to play Anakin in AOTC) marrying a barely adult/legal individual every time one is available by the story and wasn't framed as such in AOTC, along with the fact that Humans originally had longer lifespans in the PT and EU, it's clear their in-universe standards are different compared to ours.
      8:14 - 8:47
      Also, Obi-Wan and Padme have a 12 - 14 year age gap between them. Very much unlike the 5 year age gap between Padme, then Anakin, and then Ahsoka.

      All jokes aside, I always felt this way about his idiotic videos. Belated medias alternative prequel trilogy was some of the worse fanfic I'd ever seen. While I fully acknowledge that prequels are bad movies. They're bad because of George Lucas poor writing & lazy directing. If he wrote out his scripts, handed off directing duties to a more competent director & let a couple screenwriters clean up his scripts. They would've been masterpieces.

    It's amazing how much this guy doesn't understand the prequels at all as he tries to rewrite them. He says the prequels could've felt familiar not just through returning characters but through "theming and parallels," then goes on to suggest changes that are just variations on the shared themes & parallels with the OT that are ALREADY IN THE PREQUELS!
    For years I've seen prequel haters spout nonsense that makes it clear they didn't even pay attention to the movies in the first place. Prequel hate never deserved to get popular because it was always baseless.

    This Belated media in his rewrite turned a Star Wars film into Disney Star Wars trash.

  • @jaffarebellion292
    @jaffarebellion292 20 днів тому +3

    The first rule of rewriting any work of media is that, at least for the most part, less is more. Minor tweaks and changes can make a huge difference, while changing too much can obliterate what good material is already there. The Prequels were flawed gems, and just needed a bit of polish to really be as great as they could've been.
    If you want to know how I'd rewrite the Prequels: for Episode I, I'd age Anakin up just a bit to give Lucas access to a broader range of actors (or just so Hayden Christiansen can play Anakin across all three movies the way Natalie Portman did with Padme), and I'd swap the first and second acts, showing Anakin's induction into the Jedi, followed by the invasion of Naboo as his first assignment with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Not much else needs to be touched, and most issues that arise could be solved with minor tweaks and a cursory dialogue pass.
    The following two films are easy. Just give them extra runtime and put material from the novelizations (most of which was in the early drafts of the scripts and cut for time) on screen directly, seeing as Episodes II and III both had excellent novelizations that enriched and enhanced the story to a huge degree.
    Done. I didn't need three, twenty-minute-long videos to rewrite the Prequels. Just a couple of paragraphs to sum up my proposed changes. Is it the best way to rewrite them? Maybe, maybe not. But so many of these rewrite videos completely lose the core of the story and eject everything without thinking about how they can add context or tweak minor details to make things work better. They always end up a complete mess that mashes together a billion ideas the author thought would be cool, without any thought as to how it would function as a cohesive whole, and thus the rewrite often sounds more like fanfiction than a serious proposal.
    TL;DR: Less is more. You don't need to change everything to "fix" movies that could be greatly improved with a few strategic tweaks and added scenes for more context.

    At 4:14 I want to point out that the focus is not Luke and not Anakin or Vader in the entire series. Yes, it's not. It's about the Skywalker family as a whole which includes Anakin, Padme, Luke and Leia and this has been crystal clear even in the original trilogy. I'd say the central focus is more on Luke and Anakin / Vader but overall the story has ALWAYS been about the story of this family. That's the whole point of star wars episode 1-6. Anakin is an innocent boy who has several tragedies that lead him to question his faith. He falls in love and then later that love along with his trauma leads him to fall from grace. Then his son fills his footsteps once again as the hopeful hero but he learns from his father's fall from grace and they both overcome the face of evil, beating the big bad as father and son and redeeming the family's legacy. Anakin and the family are redeemed in the end. Even if the prequels never happened, through dialog in the OT it's clear that Anakin was once a hero that fell from grace and turned to the darkside and that Luke redeems his father and makes him the hero he once was again. Both overcome their personal demons and the demons of the family as a whole. They overcome their dark past to beat the true evil and redeem themselves in the eyes of the galaxy / force. THAT'S LITTERALLY THE FOCUS! The fact that people don't understand that is baffling (not directed at you because you seem to fully get this but the rewrite guy doesn't). Star wars is a family drama; A Shakespearean tragedy about this family that has a dark past and must overcome their collective trauma as a family to redeem their legacy. The other characters like Obi Wan, Qui Gon, Yoda and the crew in the OT are supposed to add to the narrative that this family is surrounded by trauma and that they must overcome it head on to fix the wrongs that tarnish the family's legacy. They must correct their path or they are all doomed like Vader before Luke turns him back to the light.

Have them take a ship or something, Y'know, the things star wars is arguably known for due to the dogfights? Even I make sure to have the characters walk, or use some form of transportation. Originally George was going to make Anakin. I agree he should have been a bit older, because than the relationship between him and Padme may have been less creepy.
    Other than that, I think this guy got his idea how to write from Terrible Writing Advice. The love triangles are a very common trope with him.
    Also, most of this, this guy sounds like he's just re-explaining in the original movie and not really making anything new. It's another common thing that happens with bad fanfiction writers. in the attempt to make a whole new and better fanfiction, they basically refollow what's already been done, because they lack the imagination and originality to make anything new themselves. And it's fine if he want to do a fanfiction, but don't post is like 'what George Lucas did sucks. I can make it much better' and then do the same damn thing.

She was still in high school when Phantom Menace came out. The fact that she had hit a growth spurt while child Anakin's actor hadn't also makes the age Gao between them seem bigger than it really is.
