Moody BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY in the Arctic ⎸ Varanger Expedition ep 5
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 сер 2024
- In this wildlife photography series, I take you along - behind the scenes - on a week-long photography expedition in pursuit of the hardy creatures that endure the cold temperatures and inhospitable conditions that the Arctic throws at them. In this episode, I try to incorporate dark and moody skies into my images, as I photograph black-legged kittiwakes, whooper swans, purple sandpipers and oystercatchers.
A huge thanks to my good friend SKJALG-HELMER VIAN for helping me realize this magical adventure to the Arctic!

I truly admire your work. Your artistic approach, your video work, your choice of music, it all leaves me speechless. So beautiful in fact it makes me, a full-grown man, a bit teary-eyed. As a child growing up I would sit with granny, who had passed several years ago. I, a kid curled up on the floor, grandma sitting on the sofa behind me, we would watch wild animal TV shows every day. I am one of 7 kids in a large family who had any interest in wildlife. Oftentimes I'd sit around wondering if I was adopted. Tobias Gjerde, thank you! ~ Gregory
Really heartwarming words to read, Gregory! I appreciate you sharing!

Thank you! You definitely should!
Great capture video Tobias! Funny that you mention Skjalg. I sent him a message 3 weeks ago and since then several reminders via email, insta etc. He said he would look at my mail but he never came back to me, very unfortunate as I got very excited after your videos to visit Varanger. 😞
Thanks man! I’ll send him a reminder. He has a lot of projects ongoing at the moment, but I’m sure he can make something happen!
Thanks a lot for the effort Tobias! I thought it could be that he's quite busy, I don't mind but it would be helpful if he would just say so. Anyways, I'll just wait to hear from him.
Amazing Tobias! Great video and images yet again. Thank you so much for taking us along on your trip to Varanger. Hopefully I can go there myself in 2024, but in the meantime will be very much looking forward to see one of you're next photography adventures on youtube!
Thank you so much! I will definitely be coming back, so I can totally recommend visiting this magical place!
Hi Iris, I am planning to do a guided trip to Varanger this March! If this sounds interesting to you, send me an email to togj1000@gmail.com (completely non-binding), and I will provide you some more info on what such a trip would consist of.
Awesome video
Thanks!
It's a very nice finale for your epic photography adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed all of your videos. Your artistic ability is inspiring. I am looking forward to your future adventures.
Thank you so very much!
Stunning Pictures, Tobias! Thanks for sharing your work and trip! Do you like the combination of the 300 2.8 with 2xTC iii? Did you do a comparison in terms of sharpness, af speed, etc.?! I also have the 300 2.8 and think about to buy either the 2x or the 1,4 TC. Currently have the R7, but I wanna get the R6ii.
Cheers :)!
Hi, thank you! I have only briefly tried the 1.4x, but I honestly feel I would rather crop in a little tighter in the occasions 1.4 would be necessary. I am quite happy with the 2x III, although there is a noticeable reduction in image quality and a little bit of af speed. I use it as little as possible, but quite often, it is really nesecarry with that extra reach. Preferably, I would like to have a 400 2.8 and a 1.4, but that’s a price range far beyond my budget 😅 To conclude, if you’re only getting one converter, the 2x is probably the way to go.
Sick footage! I have two technical questions. In what format are you shooting? And do you use nd or just crank up the fstop?
Thanks! Do you mean in terms of photo or video?
@@TobiasGjerde Oh i forgot to clarify 😆, in terms of video
How can you make all those videos and sharp px without a tripod? 😅
Haha thanks a lot! It takes a lot of practice and a steady hand, but I still have a lot of potential for improvement when it comes to getting steady video… I’m learning along the way!
