One of the features that make or break a mixer for me is the type of EQ. Some mixers can switch between EQ/Isolator mode but on some models you cannot do isolator. As a techno DJ this is pretty awful if you do a lot of layering with long transitions. Also the filter is pretty important to me. Many filters on DJ mixers sound pretty bad (even on high end ones). Apart from that I find it so useful to have a button that de/-activates the filter on a channel. Taking out the lows with the filter and then deactivating it on the next phrase can be really cool.
Great article, but you were a little late! I was shopping for a new mixer last month for my cdjs. It was between Pioneer v10, 900 nx or the A and H zone 96. I wanted the 4 band eq because I do a lot of eq work when I mix progressive. I liked the 900 because it was standard, but I feel you don't really need a "standard" mixer. I went with the Zone 96 and added an Eventide H9 on the sends for efx. The efx on that H9 are crazy! You can even control them with your phone, much better than standard efx on a mixer. Some people have even said that the music sounds better (I guess analog vs digital, the zone is analog) and the filters on that mixer are Top tier, never seen anything like it.
i used to buy four channel club mixers like Pioneer but they have no pads so no cue points or sampler unless you plug more gear in .I am not a scratch dj but i like mixers with pads for various effecta and cue points and its all right there with no need to add anything. Also i am a bit of a clutz so having the lower section clear of clutter is great. The Rane is well thought out and the pads are a great improvment on the Rane 68 four channel .club mixer which i totally hammered.
If anyone is interested the Allen and Heath Xone 43C works perfect with the newest version of Rekordbox despite Pioneer saying it doesnt. You have to load the audio driver every time you start though.
It's true the upper end of DJ-controllers are basicly mixers with added controllers. Once we get into all-in-once those are well... a mixer plus added players even. But none of that matters, for this: upper end DJ controllers, all-in-ones and mixers are all DJ mixers. The controllers and all-in-ones just aren't as flexible in inputs and outputs as a seperate mixer.
Phil, my Rane Seventy has "Split Cue" and I'm sure the 72 mixers do as well. Is there not a button under the "Cue Level" & "Cue Mix" knobs that says "Split Cue?" If so, you need to add a tag to correct the information. Time Stamp: 12:00
i have a 12 channel mixer i use for djing/karaoke i dont do scratch or anything like that but am thinking of getting something a bit smaller then my 12 channel
Excellent review. I needed this. Now all i need is a nice controller with a club stye mixer. The 1000 SRT is pretty old now. Dont look like Native Instruments are going to put out anything.
@@digitaldjtips are you hopeful for a new controller from Traktor? Im a traktor user, but im about ready to jump ship and go to serato. It seems like they have given up on the dj equipment.
Hey Phil, i just picked up a couple of Denon SC5000M Media Players. What mixer would you recommend using with the Denon decks. I would be using stand alone mode and don't want to use a laptop. Thanks
What pisses me off is the way mixers are now vertically long. I am an old skool dj and have the Technics in a shipping coffin. My mixer space is 19 inch Across. My Denon DNX500 was what I've been using for 14 years and finally blew out. I can't seem to find any analogue mixers that will fit in the coffin with the Denon dual cd player mounted over the mixer the way I had it. My Denon DNX500 wasn't the best mixer out there, but it worked for me. Send and return, EQ on each channels, 4 channels assignable, record output and booth. I had everything hooked up including an FM transmitter. Now I'm fucked as all the mixers I see are super large and made for the button pushing, knob twisting dj's that hop up and down. I'm doing this for 35 years now. I don't mind new technology but seriously, for the work I do, clubstyle beat matching, there aren't any mixers that I feel would suit me. I'm fucked.
@@digitaldjtips I would buy second hand but only if I knew the owner and history of the unit. How many hours are on the mixer. Maybe I'll find something.
@@unaizabaletaaldaz3435 I am waiting for Z3 or something from traktor new still actually. I used to have a the nexus 1 I guess I should of kept that but thinking about just saveing up for a brand new nexus 2 at this point cause it just has that epic sound good for techno and trance music and dance music ect.
I'm sure theres a logical reason for it (economics I assume), but it's too bad nobody makes a 3 channel mixer anymore or include a Matrix assign. With the creative liberties we can take given the tech that we now have, I can see a lot of possibilities with a Matrix.
Is there any chance you could do a tutorial on sound switch and how to use it with a standalone controller? I've been having issues with my prime 4 and watched multitudes of videos on how to work it but cant get my head around it

1:44 Mixer style - club or scratch?

7:37 Audio interface
9:19 Sends/returns

Rotary mixers, mixers with no crossfader, six channel mixers are also available
If you're considering those two things I imagine you're probably looking for a more specialized video tbh

que mezclador recomendarias por debajo de 500 euros con 4 pistas?

Yes, controller mixers are definitely useful beyond scratching
very nice topic you got there Phil... well done...

No that's true, but they're better at controlling DJ software...
What the best mixer for just using analog vinyl only
Next time I buy a mixer they have to be open to all the software and good sound 💚
I wish more people took advantage of the SPDIF connections on the DJM900/X1850
Would make sense

what about rotary mixers? i think you should of included them in the video
Too niche for our audience

Allen & Heath xone 62 or omnitronic trm 402?
The one that sucks about some mixers is we don’t get the send and return connection and the mixers cost 💲 more.

Pioneer are terrible sound quality.
Thanks for your opinion Jonathan
The djm 900 nexus 2 and djm s11 sound good to me on a club sound system 🤷♂️and i hear the v10 is even better!
