      Get a mixer, balance to balance connection is much better (1) and (2) it will sound better and louder than if you went to use converters. Behringers are affordable and they double as mixers for live streaming.

    Hi, thanks for this very helpful.
    I do have a question please.
    My speakers has just the RCA output at the back and I really want my connection to be balance. I have intension of purchasing the Markie PROFX6v3 Mixer but was wondering how to connect it to my RCA speakers as there are no XLR output at the back of my speakers.
    The intended purpose is to have the speakers at least 10 metres from my controller.
    Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

      @@user-yt6ix1kc4vAs the video stated it's not the best connection, you are down -10 DB. What he should do is RCA to DI Box to Speakers. But as he said, at that point the cost of getting one of those, you would be better off getting a Mixer with USB. Behringer Xenyx 802 USB gives you 8 channels, USB input for live streaming. DI Box doesn't offer any of that but as he also said, may eventually benefit you if you say in this business long enough. I'd still get the mixer first, these controllers especially those using USB 2.0 are working with 2.5 volts of power. FLX4 is using USB 3 which is 5 volts, a hotter signal but still RCA; I'd still use an external mixer.

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l
      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      You need an amplifier or a powered mixer. Powered Mixers are heavy, heavy, heavy because they do all the mixing plus provide power for speakers. I'd sell the passives and get powered speakers if you are a mobile DJ. Otherwise, Powered Mixers usually have crossovers in them.

    Given that if I DJ in mono and using two speakers, would it be alright to plug one of the XLR's to a PA mixer and still achieve the same amount of sound when using two XLR's?

    • @user-yt6ix1kc4v
      @user-yt6ix1kc4v 6 місяців тому

      If you use two speakers you should be using stereo because not only will the sound be unbalanced, it will sound lower. Once you disconnect the xlr from one of the speakers it won’t do much difference since you are already in mono.

  • @djwright201

    Is it okay to connect the XLR output(s) from a DJ controller to the XLR input(s) of an external audio mixer? Or are the XLR inputs on an external mixer strictly for microphone use?
    I get confused, because some mixers (such as the new Mackie ProFX6v3+) have combination jacks that are labeled as "Mic/Line" while other mixers (such as the Allen & Heath Zedi 10) have XLR inputs labeled "Mic" and there's a separate line input placed underneath it.

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l
      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      Yes that is exactly what you do. The Mic input is also labeled (LINE). It will work that way nothing special about it.

    Can an audio mixer also balance my cable like a di box if I’m running RCA cables to it or do I need both?

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l
      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      One or the other is fine. I would lean towards a mixer as he stated it only helps and expands your setup. If your computer/controller decides it wants to shut down or reboot, you can easily plug in an external source and keep going. These are facts of life being a mobile DJ. If you do any weddings you'll need at least one mic if not two and the outputs of an external mixer are superior to those but a few controllers like the DJ-707 from Roland.

    Is it possible to go from 1 dj controller, for example a DDJ flex 4 with RCA into another dj controller like an XDJ RX2 which would be inputted into either the AUX RCA or the Master RCA and from the XDJ RX2 it will go to the speakers via XLR master output?

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l
      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      No it will be the same -10 DB from the controller, it's unbalanced. Use a external mixer with FLX4, you go RCA into the mixer and then TRS or XLR out to your powered speakers (unless you are using JBL Partyboxes). It will sound a ton better and louder with less gain.

    If I connect my controller (RCA) to a mixer, then the mixer TRS to TRS speakers, will that help minimize the static and buzzing?

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l
      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      Yes, a short run of RCA will not have any buzzing anyway. The buzzing is the limited range of the MIC input on budget controllers. If you are DJ'ing outdoors, always go TRS to TRS or TRS to XLR. The external mixer will bump up the signal of the controller, you're setup will be much louder and bass heavy than a DJ without an external controller. If you are trying to be a mobile DJ, it's a wise investment.

    I have two 1/4 on the back of my DJ controller. I need a cable to go to my powered monitor. The monitor has one 1/4" female input and one XLR female input. There is also "link output" male XLR connection.. The monitor is for my "Booth Speaker". I hope you can get me the right cable... 🤞

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l
      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      You can use either. Depending on how deep you want to get into this, I would pick XLR because so many setups that you will plug into for live events, weddings, corporate events will use an external mixer. As he said they have spare cables everywhere, can loan you some to extend your speakers further out if need be.

    The Radial ProAV2 has the right and left xlr outputs. The way I have my setup now, my first speaker connects to the other wirelessly. Do I need to run the "left xlr' output to my left speaker and the "right xlr" out to my right speaker? Or can I daisy chain them with one xlr cable coming from the Radial ProAV2?

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l
      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      To get stereo out of those, you need to use one for the left side and one for the right side, XLR out from the controller (left) to the left speaker, XLR out from the controller to the right speaker (XLR). Forget the daisy chain unless you are adding more speakers to the left or right.

      Nobody knows what you did as you didn't explain it well enough. Could be all sorts of things. You could have your audio settings wrong on your controller for all we know. Do not run XLR to RCA. Run RCA from the controller (or TRS or XLR if it has those) to an external mixer and then to your speakers.

    When I connect the controller and speaker with the RCA (controller) and jack (speaker) this sounds louder then a connection with an XLR cable (controller) and line 1 (speaker).
    How is this possible?? The connection with XLR sounds a little bit muted.
    The speaker also has 2 XLR line inputs. Should I use 2 XLR cables , 1 XLR cable left (controller) to line 1 (speaker) and 1 XLR right (controller) to line 2 (speaker)? Or is just 1 cable enough (from left or right (controller) to line 1?

      USB into your PC/Mac from the DDJ-200, then connect an external mixer with USB to your Mac or PC. You can add a virtual audio cable to your Mac in the settings. For a PC you need to download a virtual audio cable which is free (Google it), this will give you headphones using the internal audio device in your computer and the external mixer will give you outputs to powered speakers or an amp and then speakers. Or you do the smart thing, sell the DDJ-200 and upgrade or if you like the size of the 200, get the FLX2 which is the replacement for the DDJ-200 anyway.

      I have the same set up. If I’m not misunderstood (I’m still trying to figure this out myself) you don’t need to have audio interface/DI box/mixer but you will want to use one because the flx4 only has rca outputs which causes unbalanced audio. You want to run your rca into one of these devices so that it turns it into a balanced signal.

    • @alettertosanta

      @AnthonyThomas-o4l 21 день тому

      KRK 5's have RCA (unbalanced) TRS and XLR (balanced). Use an RCA to RCA cable. The sub is daisy chained from the other speakers to get its signal don't worry about that.

      We touched on it in this video. RCA outputs are quiet (~14dB less volume than XLR or TRS), if you want to get "more volume", it's best to connect to an audio mixer before connecting to your speaker, this will give you the ability to turn it up more before getting to your speakers.

    • @AnthonyThomas-o4l

      I hope this isn't a joke. You would use RCA (from the controller) to 3.5 inch into your car stereo as most OE and aftermarket setups have that. The solar panel should be connected to some sort of generator like a Westinghouse 200s, you would plug your laptop into that and finally why would you need to record into a cassette? This isn't the 1980's anymore; use any kind of digital audio recorder. Some are aimed at DJ's and aren't that expensive.
