    Actually we have so many varities like gur, honey, mishri, dates, stevia (meethi tulsi). Our ancestors developed many recipes which were healthy and delicious at the same time. But today we people are eating poison in the name of sugar nd sweets.

      Bohat saare texts me starting from Sushruta to Charaka and to other texts we find mention of Sweets being consumed before meals rather than after. Gur ko pehle bhi khaya jaye toh bhi digestion me help kar sakta hai. Yes there are later ayurvedic texts that do suggest gurr specifically for those who cannot avoid having sweets. But the most ancient ones ask us to avoid them after meals.

      Charaka and Sushruta Samhita mentions Having Sweets right at the end can put off the digestive fire. It may cause fermentation and indigestion due to the acidic secretions. This could also trigger gas formation and bloating. To counter these effects, Ayurveda suggests that one must start with something sweet at the outset, followed by something sour and salty in the middle, and finally something spicy or astringent. Having spicy food in the end helps douse the Kapha dosh(earth), while something sugary at the start takes care of the Vayu(wind) imbalance.

    Everything else is fine but sweets *are* permitted after meals, each meal should end with a piece of jaggery in winters and a piece of mishri in summer.
    What was the reason for saying that sweet should be avoided after meals?

    • @IndianTreasuryofWisdom
      @IndianTreasuryofWisdom  4 роки тому

      Charaka and Sushruta Samhita mentions the same. Having Sweets right at the end can put off the digestive fire. It may cause fermentation and indigestion due to the acidic secretions. @@IndianTreasuryofWisdom But if you have listened to Rajiv Dixit Ji, whose most speeches are based on Vagbhatta's Ashtanga Hradyam, he says eating a small piece of jaggery after meals supports digestion (I added mishri from my side for summers as it is cooling in nature but it may not be completely true) and Fit Tuber also says the same. Also jaggery is of hot potency. In the ayurvedic texts the reference may be to not eat sweet dishes and rather jaggery is allowed.
      And also one more thing that is there any mention of shakkar (jaggery powder) in the ayurvedic texts?

    • @IndianTreasuryofWisdom
      @IndianTreasuryofWisdom  4 роки тому +1

      @@soil_ranger I do not know why Rajiv Dixit ji never quoted Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita because Ashtanga Hrydayam is a much Later Book (written in 7th century AD). Also Charaka Samhita (which is written 1000 years before Ashtanga Hrydayam) are more detailed and the topics are more elaborated. Only if one is not able to control his desire to have sweet may have Gur in very less Quantity after meal. But in usual conditions one should avoid.

    Every Indian Menu of Food has some small portion of sweet served in the begining and a full course served at the end in the form of dessert. This is a form of serving that has prevailed probably 1000s of years..There would be a definite reason. A small portion of sweet at the begining of meal ignites the gastric juices in your stomach and a full course of sweet like a Kheer/ payas at the end serves as fuel to fully ignite and digest the food that we have eaten..this has been the logic for long years ..Your advice of not having sweets along with food may not be a correct advice..and needs validation.
