- Lord of The Rings director, Peter Jackson, has restored more than 50 hours of outtakes from the 1970 Beatles documentary Let It Be.
The documentary sheds new light on the relationship between Paul McCartney and John Lennon before the band finally split in 1970.
The film is in three parts and almost seven-hours long.
The film, Get Back, is on Disney+ from 25 November.

It speaks volumes that a group that broke up half a century ago, can still provoke so much love and respect in 2021.
The Beatles was the soundtrack to millions who grew up in the 1960s, myself included. This new documentary will be a godsend to all Beatles fans old and new.
I grew up in the early 80’s in England and they were the soundtrack to my childhood. My dad had all the original LP’s and I played them all.
My 4 albums I’d play all the time;
Revolver
Rubber Soul
Abbey Road
Double Fantasy
i´m 19 now, in my first secondary (high school), i listened to them and they were my favorite band, but i had never listened to all of their music, so in my last year, i decided to hear all of their albums from beggining to end, and my head exploded with music, i really couldn´t believe they made all of that in so little time, so, since i´ve been 17 to now i listen to their music everyday, it´s like you said, the soundtrack of my life

Hold my beer jedipoopyhead... Am 74 and first heard them when I was 11!!! Huge fan... Sad they parted as they all went on to make hit records, even Ringo! (who by the way was a very sought after drummer before meeting up with the others) but a hilarious quip by John to a reporter enquiring whether John would consider Ringo as the best drummer in the world? And in true John Lennon humor replied : "he's not the best drummer in the BEATLES!" 😂😂😂

As for talented musicians they were very sub standard.
The footage makes it feel like your actually there in 1969. It's looks like real life. Not just behind a camera.

I'm a casual Beatles fan. Heard their hits over the years but only had a passing interest. I watched the documentary and I was enthralled. I have been going down the Beatles rabbit hole for days now and it's amazing.

Ha! Youre in for a treat. I wasnt a Beatles fan until well into adulthood and didnt like them as a kid! But - i remember songs that they did and i didnt know it was them and really liked them. Here Comes the Sun is one, and it is still my fav Beatles song. I hope you get to their last album Abby Road, i keep going back for that fantastic Swan Song of melodies which is just beautiful.
It is amazing how knowing the story of an artist or a band can take them out of the realm of a manufactured product that you take for granted, into the realm of humans that you can relate to.

So I’m a 59 year old African-American guy living in a small suburb of Newark New Jersey. USA. I’ve been a Beatles fan ever since I was a toddler. (Like most people my age.). I remember seeing the cartoon in the 1960s when I was very very young.
I’m so used to hearing all those albums of George Martin produced where everything is finished this is a complete surprise. So I’m watching maybe a half hour so this documentary and what amazes me is that these guys would just jam it out. Everybody was figuring out their parts simultaneously before the song was even really written. No sheet music. A few song lyrics written on paper but it seems very cut and paste to me. They didn’t know how they were going to sing the songs. They didn’t know how the harmonies were going to go. Nothing !!! they just walk in to the studio sit down light up a couple of cigarettes and work the songs out. They must’ve had amazing memories. And when they get stuck they would move on and work on another idea. I can guess that each day the songs are going to become more and more like the ones that we remember.

But don't forget George Martin helped them put the pieces together, gave the songs structure and arrangements, and made it all happen. That is why he was called the fifth Beatle. Very few songwriter/musicians have the ability to do it all themselves.
They couldn't read or write music. But boy, could they create it!
Their songs remains not just evergreen, its timeless.
I consider myself so fortunate to been around in the 60s and witnessed what the Beatles did and the memories I have for the rest of my life.Being born in 53 they came along at the right time for me.

Fascinating watching their creative process unfold while making eternal, brilliant music.
I've been in bands for nearly 20 years. Even at the LOWEST points you're still a group of people who are brothers in arms doing what you love, cracking jokes, and being creative. Of course looking back, you're gonna see laughter, stupid moments, little arguments. This shows the Beatles were truly a band of friends, just like every other that ever tried to make it. Glad the stigma has been broken, Let It Be can now be looked at in a positive light.

So unreal to see the boys in color and the clarity is great. You must realize that at that time almost all television was grainy black and white. So good to see them again.

For 4 lads that were so famous and successful they were so humble and were so funny and had great personalities and not to mention the talent in all 4 of them,they are my favorite band of all time and will always be until my time is up

Having seen the first in the " Get Back " series, it's remarkable how the gloomy Twickenham sessions fostered such acrimony in the group and how joyful they seemed at Savile Row Studio. Having Billy Preston as a buffer between them all was heaven sent.
yes, but one myth was dispelled : that they only started to enjoy sessions after Preston joined . They were in the groove immediately after moving to saville Row .Amazing to see....

The fact that The Beatles sang their own songs with weird accents and funny voices makes me feel better for having done it. I realise it's just film, but it was like getting to know them all over again, and I felt like I was sitting right there watching them. Peter really did a great job! My first memory of The Beatles was watching the Ed Sullivan Show and seeing my sister and her friends screaming and just gushing over their fave Beatle. I was only 4-5 years old, but it's a memory that really stuck with me. It appeared to me that John and Paul had the rare type of understanding where they finished each others sentences and were able to compose in real time. Brilliant!

This was so well done..Absolutely amazing job by Peter Jackson. A much more accurate demonstration of where the Beatles were at and how they were still close during this time. Many fun and happy moments that we didn't know exist. Paul was obviously the driving force behind the band in the creation of their last three albums, with John and George already tired of carrying the Beatle weight on the backs and wanting to pursuit their own creations. The documentary thus far has demonstrated Pauls leadership as the driving force which some may believe is more like him being a dictator of some type but I see it as the opposite of that. Thank you Paul for being the backbone of the group during this time and to John, George and Ringo for giving us the Get Back sessions.

Yoko, who was wrongly accused of breaking up the Beatles, was absolutely right when she observed that the world was very lucky indeed that we had the Beatles for the relatively short length of time we did have them ... only about 5 years or so. The amount of masterful music created by them is historic, they are the Beethovans, Bachs, Mozarts of our time. Yoko observed that it is very, very difficult for 4 musical geniuses (certainly John and Paul fit into that musical genius category, but George and Ringo were, if not musical geniuses, certainly two of the topmost musicians of our time without question....) to work together as the Beatles did. Normally, such enormous talents would do their thing, on their own, not together as a band or group. But for a magical, and short, period of time, the Beatles made it work and the world is a better place for it ..................................
I agree about Yoko. Shes always been blamed for break-up. They were ready to go their own ways by then. Ive watched it and loved it. Younger people will get an insight of the world in 1969. Its surreal at times even though I was young teenager in 1969. A completely different world. The world has changed, some not for the better.
Don’t sell George Harrison short. His songs for the group include "Taxman", "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something". One of the problems from his perspective was that it was always Lennon and McCartney. Harrison often had a hard time getting his songs on Beatles albums.
Also, after the breakup, the first of the four with a hit was George with “My Sweet Lord”. That was on a triple album , “All Things Must Pass”, that included "What Is Life", “Isn't It a Pity" and the title track.
@@brucekuehn4031 I agree, Harrison turned out to be as much of a songwriting genius as John and Paul, he just bloomed a little bit later than them. But that period from 1968-71, he was absolutely on the same level.

I never ever in 53 as a fan blamed Ono. I simply never took a liking to her or saw anything special or interesting about her. And also yeah, it wasn't and isn't my place to critique or judge her or John's choices in any way. But I have the right to dislike her 🤭 Also " The Beatles were ready to break up" as Paul once put it. It was a natural, inevitable progression.
Beatles music had a soothing effect that's why they were loved so much particularly young women, young men who wanted the feeling of affectionate and appreciation without directly getting it from someone. Their style was around Rock and Blues, Rock and Soul, Rock and Psychadelic, and Rock and Pop.

The best part of this film is that it totally changed my understanding of this period of the band's history. All we used to hear about was the fighting between them - but it really wasn't that way at all. We see that they were still close friends having fun making music together. John was a lot more involved than what we were taught.

i loved to work in liverpool being a massive beatles fan ,my first time there i had an install near the cavan ,i remember not being able to find the premises but found the cavan ,i just stood there not stunned or emotional but definitely a wave of completion and for the understanding of how it all happened ,it did hit me in the caf down the road a full english a huge grin and wipe of the eye..

I can't wait to see these movies I will view them with great joy and pride to have been a Beatles Fan since 1963 when I first heard 'LOVE ME DO', on a radio station, I was 10yrs of age and had loved music since I was a Toddler which I got from my mum as she always had music on her radiogram and sang along with while doing her chores. But I will also view the movies with deep sadness watching John and George laughing and joking as they create some of the greatest Rock muzak, EVER, so full of life and fun, poor John an agent of Peace who was taken from us in such a violent way, and George dying so young because of his smoking, ah well I'm still looking forward to seeing the 3 movies of my Beloved Beatles. Rest In Eternal Peace John, George, Stuart Sutcliffe, Billy Preston, Brian Epstein, George Martin, Big Mal Evans. Cynthia Lennon, Linda McCartney, Maureen (Mo) Starkey, and all who were part of the Wonderful Magical Mystery Tour of 4 working-class young men from Liverpool who took over the world for over 10yrs and brought us fun, laughter, unique and fab music which changed the world in politics, music, fashion, hairstyles and so much more.

@@slouhend My understanding was that the only one of them that was slightly elevated above the working class was John, due to his Aunt and Uncle's more middle class aspirations. But his biological parents - an irresponsible single mother and a dead-beat, absent sailor dad - were surely just as working class as the other Beatles' families. I recall someone on YT saying they thought Paul's family must be rich because his mum, who died when he was 14, was a midwife. Perhaps this is what you heard too? In the US perhaps, with its fully privatised health system, this would ensure a high income, but definitely not in the UK. Paul remembers his mum setting off at night, in the snow, to deliver another baby, on her old black bicycle. They lived in a council house in a terrace of identical homes - you've surely seen the Carpool Karaoke footage? George's dad was an electrician IIRC (?) - definitely a working class trade. And Ringo and his single mum, and later stepfather lived in a house in the Dingle that was so poorly constructed it was torn down, along with all the houses in the row - a true Liverpool slum - despite many pleas for its preservation due to its place in Beatle history..

It's going to remain a mystery why Michael Lindsay Hoggs original "Let it be" film in 1970 presented the Beatles in such a bad light for most of that film other than the roof top performance. Hogg had hundreds of hours of footage to choose from but for some strange reason neglected the fun times Peter Jackson has shown of the Beatles.

I just finished watching it and loved it. It was bitter sweet to see the world in 1969. I was a young teenager in 1969 and the world has changed dramatically. Some not for the better. Still, to see and hear the Beetles playing was a treat to the senses.

I watched the Let it Be film recently and found that even that isn’t nearly as miserable as my memory told me. The joyous moments far outweigh the miserable ones - in fact, the fall-out between George and Paul was the only tense segment in my view. Just tells me that even the memory is tainted by that collective consciousness

I also saw The Beatles live in The Kings Hall Belfast (where I'm from) in the mid 60s, and 69/70 I saw live the Late Great Ravi Shankar with his fellow musicians Allah Raka, R.I.P. on Tablas, and Kamala on Drone, and I saw Scaffold live with Pauls brother Mike McGear, both at the Queens University Festival, Belfast, both acts were brilliant, especially Ravi, R.I.P. thanks to George introducing us to Indian Music especially the Sitar which is a fantastic musical instrument. Magical times never to be repeated. "BEATLES FOREVER"!!

Several years ago I was in Tokyo at the biggest auction ever of Beatles memorabilia. Among the one-of-a-kind items on the block were Paul McCartney's birth certificate, a white Mercedes Benz owned by John Lennon, and rarest of all... a photo of George Harrison not looking haggard.
The hospital were Paul McCartney was born is right in front of my apartment here in Liverpool .

After editing, the result was over 7 hours.... every minute was fascinating.... watching their creative process, collaborating as they construct new material.

I didn't want it to end. I only wish we could have seen the making of Abbey Road as they had played some of those songs during these rehearsals.
Yeah, I was wondering how they decided which songs would be on Let It Be. It became evident that it was the ones they were able to finish, and many of the remainder became part of Abbey Road. But many of those songs were never finished and became part of the wonderful Side 2 medley, which I love even if John thinks it's rubbish.
