This is the BEST tutorial for hooded eyes. Lining the bottom eyes to use as a guide is genius. Will follow all your tips. Love your channel. Thank you!
I am a makeup "newbie" and this is THE ONLY tutorial that has actually 100% helped me nail my eyeshadow. My eyes are very hooded/down turned and I've watched TONS of video's and tried and tried to follow along with different techniques but they don't hold a candle to what this video has done for me. I was literally about to give up on makeup all together. Like throw in towel and just get rid of every single bit of makeup I own. You REALLY REALLY REALLY saved my love for makeup and the desire to make myself feel good ❤❤❤❤ Thank you ❤❤❤❤
I appreciated the detail and great explanation you gave! I have hooded eyes and am 52..so dealing with lids that have more "give" to them ..so you are very helpful for me!
Elle, this was a life enhancing tutorial 🙌 I just had cataract surgery, and for the first time in 68 yrs I don't have to wear glasses !!! Hallelujah!I then realized I didn't have a CLUE how to blend or be precise with my shadow. Oops. For me, this was a life saver. Hooded eyes that aren't obscured by glasses can't just be slapped on ... who would have known? Obviously, not me 😝 Love the way you explain the WHY of what you do. Heck, let's face it ... just plain love you!!! Thanks and many blessings.
This one is a game changer for me! I'm 58 and been working on improving the look of hooded eyes, trying lots of things and getting a little better. But ran across this tutorial today and it is THE best, followed it to a T -- results are amazing in "lifting" the eyes like nothing else I have tried and it looks so pretty. The line you draw from under the eye makes a huge difference. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I've watched this so many times. It's so helpful, thank you! Sometimes I just forget the simple suggestions for placement, and thus end up doing whatever happens to be that I decide to do in the morning, which is fine, but often unflattering. I end up wearing failed makeup experiments a lot if the time. Of course sometimes it works, but it's nice to have something to fall back on like this
Why why why have I not seen this video before? I like so much how the tutorial was presented. professional, straight to the point and very informative. im subscribing. thumbs up!
I love your technique. I have a small amount of lid space to work with and this has helped to define my eyes and control the placement of eyeshadow. Using the lower lash line as a guide has really helped. Thanks for posting this.
Continuing my binge watching! I'm 51 and have always loved makeup. Struggling now with keeping my eyeshadow uplifting instead of outward. Your tip for starting with the bottom eyeliner is awesome! I think that will make a huge difference. Tysm
Hi Elle I just took a moment from your current Foundation Friday to check this one out on hooded eyes because I've never seen it. This look is so lovely. It makes the eyes look so natural and open. Thank you for addressing eyes that go a bit downward. I've always been told I have almond shaped eyes but they feel hooded and when I use the tricks that you teach for hooded eyes they work beautifully. I love how you explained everything as you always do nice and clearly and not moving too quickly. Thanks also for talking about false lashes. It's so funny someone gave me some false lashes with a pallet for the holidays yesterday on Thanksgiving I've never used them in my life and here you are with a little bit of tricks. I I always have to work hard to get both eyes to look even as it's a family trait that one eye especially in pictures tends to look a bit lazy period in real life it's not really like that but I think these are some more great tricks that will help me. Thanks so much for sharing all of your knowledge. XO
I have watched dozens of 'hooded eye' tutorials tonight, yours was by far the best, gorgeous colours and a really sophisticated look, going to be a lot of pausing and restarting this video whilst I get to grips with it trying it for myself ... REALLY good job x
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have mature, hooded eyes and I find it difficult to get the shadow in just the right places. I do keep working at it and this video helped. Great presentation style; relaxed and to the point.
I am 46 with a hooded eye but my biggest issue besides my eyes being small and hooded is the eyelid skin itself, it has gotten crepey despite using expensive eye creams, and any eyeshadow makes all of my lid and underneath the browbone look even older and wrinkly, it really accentuates the crepeyness and looks like I have wrinkles all over the eyelids themselves, it's difficult to explain but trust me very noticeable. (I even tried crèam eyeshadows thinking they would be better than matte/powder eyeshadows but in fact creams made them look even worse). I don't know what to do to get rid of the dry, crepey eyelids, it's even worse under my eyes and concealers and setting powders make me look 150 years old. I don't know why I have had this problem come on so suddenly over the past couple years but I hate it and I'm trying to keep my skin more hydrated by drinking more water and using more moisturizer and eye creams around the entire eye area. You may be too young to have an answer because you haven't experienced this but any help would be appreciated! I asked the girls at Ulta and they are too young to know, they couldn't help me and neither can the spa place. It just keeps getting worse and I am getting more and more depressed and my skin is looking worse by the day!!! If it's this bad at 46 I really dread what I'm going to look like in my 50's! I just round your chanel and while you're not my age, at least you're a real makeup artist unlike most of these makeup gurus on here giving tutorials. Thank you!
Cozette M Hi Cozette, cute name! (You too Jeannie). Here is my take on it (crepey eye make up hell). 1. Go for a favorite shade. I love an EXTREME PURPLE. I Use that as a top LASH liner, 2. AFTER I take a silver gray AND (lightly) sweep it on THE WHOLE UPPER LID CORNER TO CORNER OF LID. 3. Then I take a darker gray (luminous, sparkly! (and pat it upward on the outer eye corner and in corner eye crease only). 4. I use a "cat's tongue" artist's brush SMALL for that. 5. Then I mascara top eyelashes Only! 6. Check for "Fallout" (eyeshadow dust) gently remove, then...6. I take cream concealer and do my under eye area. 7. A bit of lipstick, 8. a pat of it also to cheeks and hairline and...Voila! I am old, lol! But good-looking! lol! Especially for 59 years plus! Best wishes! I look good, and I get more attention than I actually want. ALSO, you might research some good oils for external and nutritional use and TAKE THEM and APPLY THEM. You'll be glad you did! I am, anyway. Hugs and Happiness! Lisa
Cozette M I totally get you! I like the Caudalie firming eye cream (www.sephora.com/resveratrol-lift-eye-lifting-balm-P400610?skuId=1754092&icid2=products%20grid:p400610) for smoothing, firming and lifting. It doesn't work as fast as the Dr. Perricone ascyl-glutathione lid serum, but it does work. Have to give it about 3 weeks of use. Then, use a smoothing eyelid primer, like the LORAC one. Then, use a finely milled powder (like ELF under eye setting powder) to set it, and then apply your shadow. Use only matte shadows...shimmer (and some satins) make the crepiness look worse. Hope it helps!
best hooded eye video ive seen so far. starting with the lower lash line and creating that guide line worked for me when nothin else did. thank u so much!
I've followed all the top hooded eye tutorials on youtube; but none of them gave results like this one did! I ADORED how my eyeshadow looked following this!!!! It looked so professional and flattering, with a lovely gradient effect. Other artists don't really tell you how to blend, so in the other videos, I'd over do it and make it look just smudgy and all over the place. Amazing to think I found this video by complete accident haha!
Hi, I often don't comment on tutorials but have to say that this was great! Loved learning some NEW hooded eye techniques and especially loved your personality! Very uplifting! :)
Hi Thanks for the video. I love all the steps and I love love love that you end with natural eyelashes. I don't wear fake eyelashes so its nice to see a more natural finish. yay!!!
Thank you, this video is great. I really need to try this idea. I have been trying to pack on black eyeliner and wing it to no avail. I really needed some new idea to use.
thanks a ton for this tutorial. . i have puffy partially hooded eyes and this is the only one among the million other hooded eye tutorials that has helped me truly.. to achieve a perfect eyeshadow placement. . thank you thank you thank you!
Finally someone with the exact same eyes as me!!! Thank you for the tip with having one eye smaller!! I love binging your videos.. especially skin care 😘
By the way I forgot to say that this video was very helpful with pinpointing certain spots and areas to gravitate to and avoid. Vital information, thank you a bunch ❤️💕💕
Love this look, you did a great job on the eyeshadow. I definitely want to put this in my routine. You do a way better job at it than I have. I can't wait to try it this way. Thank you 😊
Great detailed instructions! I will definitely try that. What particular brushes are good for hooded eyes? I have problem finding one to create a crease. The 217 mac and other similar ones are too big.
Uyen Smith thanks!! Sephora Judy came out with some great brushes. But look for a blending brush that is small. Fluffy but doesn't flare out too much. Make sure you try them in the store on your eye to make sure the size is good xo
Elle could you show how to do a more dramatic look for hoodies. I love all kinds of colors, but I’m not sure how to make them look there best having the hooded eyes, I never seem happy with the results and I can’t do plain and boring all the time. Thanks ❤️💕❤️💕
Ty u elle enjoyed watching i get it alittle more each time .Can u do a video on covering brown spots on the hi points of ur checks .And where to place blush and hi liter w this issue.Ty i value ur opinions alot so thankx Joyce

Making everything lift seems to be my problem. I’m going to try to use the smaller brush on the outer lid. I have one hooded eye so trying to make mine match is a nightmare. Great eyeliner tip too (I need to try that as well)

I am 56 and have the exact same issue as you do Cozette M. so you're not alone. Using a matte shadow up there does help some.

What an informative video. Thank you.
Elle, I watch this while I’m applying my shadow everytime. I honestly think my eyes have become hooded due to Botox getting to close to my eyes. I looked for the Kevin Aucoin pallete 1 online and I can’t find it. Do you have a more current pallete in your kit that would work for this look that I might have more luck finding. Thank you so much! Crystal

would you recommend it? are the shadows good quality?

What lipstick are you wearing? Love the color and your video's.

Thank You Elle, You just changed my life on this turorial, why didnt I see this earlier lol Thank You so much
Making everything lift seems to be my problem. I’m going to try to use the smaller brush on the outer lid. I have one hooded eye so trying to make mine match is a nightmare. Great eyeliner tip too (I need to try that as well)
