Strongest Braid to Braid Fishing Knot [Modified Double Uni Knot]

- It's fishing knot time again! Of all the knots for fishing, the braid to braid knot is probably the least used...
But we still must make time to ensure all connections are maximized so that we don't lose the biggest fist of the day due to a break-off.

Most of all, a braid to braid connection is used to splice two sections of braid to save money and time in re-spooling...
Specifically, it allows anglers to load their full spool with braid to maximize the amount of line in the spool for when a really big fish is on, while still be able to re-spool faster and more affordably given that the line towards the bottom of the spool that is mostly untouched can stay in the spool as backing while only changing out the top ~100 yards of line that gets weakened the most due to usage.
After testing out many knots for the braid to braid connection, I found that the modified double uni knot outperformed them all.
This knot is easy to tie, has a small profile, and it has scored that highest in terms of average breaking strength of all that I have tested.

You aren’t going to believe this but I was searching for quite some time for a knot that would not come apart when I’m joining new yarn for my socks! I knit all of my hubby’s socks and occasionally when I join two different yarns they would come apart in the washing machine. Not anymore! Thanks so much for reminding me about this knot. I was raised in a fishing family and had completely forgotten about it. Blessings! Beverly
How awesome! Thanks for sharing the different application for this double uni knot.
Well done video and thanks for using hi-vis line and a dark back drop. 🙏🏻
This knot IS extremely powerful, I almost got spooled by an accidental cobia hookup while fishing for spanish here in NC and this knot handled very well. You should've seen my facial expression when I felt the knot go through my guides toward the fish but landed him after a really good fight. Was fishing with a very small penn pursuit 3000 with 20lb braid. Awesome tutorial! Keepem coming!
+Nelson Ortiz Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment Nelson! Glad to see that this knot held up for the cobia... hopefully that resulted in some tasty fillets for dinner for your and your family/friends. Fish On!
Nelson Ortiz would love to have a problem like that
Nelson Ortiz I have a question. Is the SINGLE uni knot good and can it real in 0-20 lbs fish? And is it better then the palomar knot?
Can i ask what lure do u use and rod? Thanks
Explore The Wild palomar knot is one of the good knot and same with uni knot. Kinda same.
Absolutely Awesome! I've never thought of just simply adding fresh braid to my spool that was running low! Thanks Luke & Salt Strong
Glad to help! Thanks for the checking it out!
I needed to add some line to my dad's reels, and this was just the perfect instructional for learning how to tie this braid to braid knot. Luke you made it really easy to learn, and I appreciate that. I've added new braid to two reels in just a few minutes, and I only have one more to go. Can't believe it was that easy!
Three hours on the bank watching other videos. Maybe luck, but your video helped me crack it. Thanks 🙏🏼😂👍
I was searching for a knot to add a mono leader to braid. I found several but the videos all demonstrated with heavy line. They were all very difficult when using light line. I came across the double uni which I used in fly fishing and tried that. Much easier to get a good knot and they pass through the eyelets smoothly. Tried it out on a new ultralight rig and it casts perfectly. I added a tiny drop of crazy glue to the knot per the recommendation in the video.
Use the rod and reel handle FG method in light line.
Practice a bit until you get the right tension.
Brilliant Knot. So easy to tie and super strong!! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm getting back into saltwater after a 25 year hiatus and switching to braid. Gonna use this vid to help me. Thanks so much!
Great knot. Much better than the one I was using for braid to braid. You helped me out loads. Thanks for sharing.
This knots proved all my setup are very strong.
Thanks
This is my go to channel for fishing knots. Just yesterday, I had trouble with my braid line and this video saved my life. Thank you for the clear visuals and instructions. 👍
Great to hear! Thanks for your support!
I just followed your method and knotted my two fishing lines and I will hope it works as you said.
So helpful! I got it on my first try!
Great video your a mind reader i was just sitting here looking at my baitcaster and thinking gotta make a run to buy more braid tomorrow before i head out now back on schedule i have a couple of quarter full rolls of braid around I'm tying it on tonight. ....Thank you Thank you.
Can’t believe I actually did it!! Super strong knot! Great video! Had to watch a few times to get it right…. Two left thumbs…..
So glad we could help!
I never use braid mainline only as backing and it does get rough spots on it during a long run from time to time. So this was also the best knot I could think of for tying braid to braid and it really does hold up well. Only difference is cover the knot with my thumb and index finger and trim the tag ends using a lighter to keep the ends of the braid from fraying. I use a modified Albright special for everything else, some call it an ‘Alberto’ knot
Great knot i only used to use 6 wraps but never failed me !! I alway's wet braid when tying knot's far stronger !!
I know I kept burning mine
Bang! Took me a few goes to accomplish the desired end result but now it’s done I think it’s a knot you can keep for life. Thanks so much for the video
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
I make jewelry with very thin braided line and this is the only thing that has worked when I run out of thread and need a bit more for a project. Thanks!
Great tutorial. I actually used this last year and this year after losing some line I had a fish run me down to this connection. I was able to bring in a 28in striper with this connection exposed at least twice. I neglected to like and subscribe last year. I won't make the same mistake twice. Thank you!!
Thank you for this upload, never tied a mod double uni knot before, but following this video was a breeze despite doing it on a camo 0,09mm braid that needed to be extended in order to get the best possible casting distance. ❤
Glad it helped!
thank you for this video. i just did it to connect two braided lines to spool an extra reel with left over line. Cheers!
good day sir, I'm just starting fishing, thank you for the tips, it's a big help to someone like me who is a beginner in the field of fishing
So glad we can help that's what we're here for!
Very good video and very helpful as i could not get a knot too hold when using 20lb braid and tying it to 70lb braided shock leader thanks
Thank you Salt Strong for these free helpful tips! It has helped me a lot.
salt strong is my go to for any kind of info. I fish boca grande quite frequently and these guys have helped me out a lot with their tips and insight. I also just purchased one of their slam strong performance shorts and they are awesome. well worth the money.
Thanks for making time to leave this nice comment and for purchasing our Slam Strong shirt. Fish On!
excellent tutorial. this is what i used to join braid to braid. Very strong.!
I like these knots especially for shock leaders
Thank you for this. Great video and explained perfectly.
Very Thanks Sir, It 's very easy and clear explanation with black backside colour and light colour Braids... Bravo..
This knot works and does not tangle up the reel.
Great teaching presentation! Best that I have seen!
Thanks! I'm new to braid. I bought a spool to replace the line on my baitcaster but 100 yards only goes half way. I'll buy another spool and finish spooling it up.
Put a mono backer on your spool so it will take upsome room use this knot too attach the two lines
Thinking of using this knot to top up my braid on same spool. That will save some $$$ instead spooling the whole spool thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Good knot i have these on my 50 wide. Main line 100lb braid to another. Caught a ton of wahoo. No issues
That’s a very nice video. Super easy and with clear communication. Thank you
I have also used this knot by my self , it is for sure one of the fastest knots , and it can help you , in a difficult time, but it's not the strongest ! Nice video and tight lines!
Which knot have you found to be stronger than this double uni knot for a braid to braid connection?
Try connect with double biminitwist...is more stronger, its tested
@@Saltstrong You create a loop to each braid, with bimini twist knot and then you join both loops with loop to loop connection 👍, I can send you a video if you like! Tight lines 🎣
P. S : Sorry for the three years late reply, but I just got a notification, from another comment ☺️
Thank you Salt Strong. Rather new to fishing. Never thought I’d need this knot. As it turns out I do. Thanks for sharing your technique. 👍🏾💯👍🏾
Glad to help!
forgot to lick the line with your spit to lubricate it. 😅 Lol I dunno if it actually matters or not, but other videos I have seen of this and other knots they did that and said, tightening the knot without wetting it could, in theory, weaken the knot due to the friction heat generated by the tightening
Here's a test I did on using saliva to tighten knots that revealed some surprising findings: www.saltstrong.com/articles/saliva-cinch-down-fishing-knot/
i think the wetting part really only appiles to when your tying fluro or mono braid wont heat up like the others
Very good have just topped up my reel with new braid using this knot, clear instruction thanks...
Thanks for making time to leave this nice comment. Glad to see that you enjoyed this modified uni knot for braid to braid. Fish On!
I have came back to this video so many times so thank you very much once again sir 😂😊
Very useful strategy for attaching braided line
I don't want to be critical--just helpful. This knot tested out at only around 55 percent of actual line strength. This won't matter for most fishermen who are targeting smaller fish, but the offshore and lands based shark anglers should use a pair of Bimini loops linked by a cats paw instead.
Thank you for sharing
Very happy. Simple but a great knot. Keep it up. Thumbs up.
That's the easiest tutorial on a double uni I have ever seen. Thanks
Should have used two different color lines and been better at explaining which line goes on top
Thanks for the feedback!
Still using like u said. Lost alot of line on a snag. Replaced like 200 yards and left the old line as a backing
Great instruction sir. Thank you very much.
The 10 second double tap feature is the best for these videos, double tap on either side to go back or forward 10 seconds makes finding your spot way easier
This is often used in the UK for attaching light braid (20-30lb) to a heavy braid leader (70lb+). It sounds weird, but a lot of anglers use it whilst beach fishing with 15ft through-action rods and it chucks the lead and bait out of sight. The anglers that use braid leaders use this knot to attach it to their mainline. Great video mate.
Thanks Brodie!
@@Saltstrong What about using the bimini twist for a braid mainline to braid leader? Have you tried it yet it's much much stronger than this knot if using it for a leader knot and incredibly neat & tidy. I would highly recommend the bimini over this for leader knot although as you say this is a great knot for tying braid mainline together 👍
You need to be using a specific leader knot Brodie like the bimini twist or even the fg knot which works impeccably for braid to braid as well as braid to mono/flouro it's incredibly strong but if you are fishing hard ground us cod Anglers in the North east use a bimini twist as there's no chance of the knot failing the 200lbs braid will break before the knot does. The bimini is also silent when casting it doesn't clunk through the rings at all its very smooth indeed.
Thank you Sir! That was the Exact information l needed! I had to rewind and pause multiple times, but gotter done! 👍
Living in southern Baja. Transplanted smallmouth fisherman searching for dorado and tuna in my retirement. Thank you
I did the exact same knot with my 30 pound spider wire stealth braid but it’s pretty big and bulky and I can feel it going through my guides
This is for 20 lbs below or even 15lbs below. Just use SC knot if you don't know how to tie the dreadful FG knot
excellent how to video, 10/10 would recommend !!
This helped me so much. The last video I watched when I first started fishing several years ago confused me and I said forget it.
Thanks for watching!
I gotta nasty wind knot that snapped on me in the middle of my spool so instead of completely responding it i just joined it with this not and spooled the other half. Thank you so much the helped a lot.
Crystal-clear explanation. Now it's time to buy paracord.
Cheers from Indonesia
Massive thank you man this video really helped me out very much appreciated
This one works under heaviest loads. Thanks for putting it out for us.👌
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Worked perfectly
Nice video i cnew the single knot newer se this one before but defenetly this one stronger
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment. Tight Lines!
Perfect knot. Thanks and tight lines. Howie
Today Dec 16 2023. Lost half a spool due to wrapped around rod tip. YT search got me this vid. Connected new line using this tutorial and landed another 10 fish. Largest 25kg. Yes this knot works. I used 8 rounds on both ends of 30lbs braid
Sorry to hear! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the help man.
Very well explained! Thumbs up
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment. Tight Lines!
Thanks for posting this, most helpful!
Our pleasure. Tight Lines!
Great video worked out great
Great demo Thanks
But if i'm tying a new 10 lb braid to the original 30 lb backing braid for my spin reel..... can't I also use the FG Knot?
fg is the way to go for leader
Ahh...I see. Well thanks for posting the video. I'm always looking for ways to improve my fishing game!
Sure thing... the added twists surprisingly made a difference... I now use up to 16 when I'm not in a rush.
great stuff. and very very simple to remember. thank you
Thanks Danny! Glad to see that you enjoyed this braid to braid knot video. Fish On!
Thanks, you made it easy.
Thanks for the video!! It took me a few times through to get the process but it worked!!!
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much 😊
Glad we could help!
Great bro. Thank u so much for this.
Once again......thank you for yet another great knot tutorial
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! The double-Uni is always a good choice, but I would not have known to double the Uni wraps… 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing!
I used this knot everytime i join nraid to braid. Its strong but still breaks. But still the most reliable knot for me
Thanks for sharing! It is a great knot!
Very well presented. Thanks
Savage. This saved my azz.
👍
Thanks! Very helpful!😎👌
Thanks for the best tutorial
Great video. Thank you
Many thanks for this video sir
Great video!
Tight! Literally! I've actually learned quite a few knots from your videos. I'm pretty darn dyslexic so the uni knots i favor quite a bit. Sorry i didn't subscribe earlier. I struggle with the alberto for sure. It's winter almost. I'll have practice time
We made it!!!!!! Thanks very much 😀
Helpful ❤.
Thanks ❤.
Glad we could help!
Thanks for this helped me alot!

Thanks for this, you made it very easy to follow
Glad it helped!

I never put that many loops, but don't see a problem with it. I never have issues when i just use 5 loops or so. Even if it is Braid to Mono works great.
Very nice. Thank you.
Best vid out there. Mahalo from Hawaii!
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment.
Thanks for sharing your video
Thanks great information
