@TylerBergerFishing keep trying go for your dream brother in bassmaster classic. Work hard relax and enjoy. Learn as much as you can you will get it. One day your name will be on fishing gear 😊❤
Used this knot for yrs. When I was younger I also ran the line twice through the eye tying the fisherman’s knot or clinch knot. I always liked my lines doubled through the eye. Glad you like this knot. 👍👍
I've used this knot for many years without knowing its exact name. I can absolutely confirm this knot is super strong, I use it specifically for direct braid connections to frogs and jigs. The initial double loop really helps prevent any slippage, especially with slicker braids.
Hey just curious, why do you specify its the best knot for braid? Is it not the strongest knot for mono or fluorocarbon as well? Is there another knot that's better for those?
Different knots do test at different strengths with different line types. I believe he ties a double pitzen for fluorocarbon because fluoro is a harder material and can cut into itself with certain knots. Just a guess though.
This the only knot that when I cap fish doesn’t consistently get broke off when they run. Honestly is just the double wrap in eyelet puts less stress at the tie point. It’s the braid equivalent of a palomar knot with mono.
I've been using this knot for braid for a few years, and it is a great knot. But, one day an inexperienced person asked for help tying a hook on her line, and I'm not sure if it was because of the cheap mono she had, or what, but I couldn't even get the knot tightened all the way before the line broke. I tried it 3 times, and same thing every time. So, I used the trilene knot, and it worked.
I came upon this knot by fluke as having done abseiling as a teen we were taught using more bytes than knots added strength so I did a double loop then than regular fishing knot everyone uses and someone showed me as a kid 40 years ago haha . And this is the final knot . It works
This takes out one of the biggest possible failure points in landing a fish, which is worth a lot ! As others have said, this channel is a very welcome addition to your other awesome channel, and good luck to you Tyler !
I absolutely love your channel. You got me to tie and break every knot. Different lines do need different knots. I double the line and tie this knot on my 3 way swivels for 100 lb. Blue cats. With 80 lb. 8 strand braid. I use 50 lb.mono as the leader, with a no knot snell 10 wraps. I use a loop knot on the mono to hook my swivel snap. When I snag ,95 per cent of the time. My no knot snell breaks at the bottom wrap. Ive not broken a fish off since I started using this. Happy tight lines.
Thanks for the awesome content Ill definitely give that knot a try FWIW I have been using the Polymer knot on braided like starting WAAAAAY back in the 1990's using Berkeley Fireline and now with my favorite and only braid Power Pro and I do not recall EVER having a Polymer knot fail me while using braid and I have fished using braided line every time I fished for nearly 30 years. Straightened and broke many many stuck hooks using braid pulling loose hooks stuck in wood or rocks but do not recall ever braking off at my knot using braided line and a Polymer knot
I’ve actually been using this particular knot for a the past several years and have definitely liked it. I think I first saw it on the Total Fisherman UA-cam page.
Tyler, have you ever tried the Toit Knot? There’s a UA-camr called Toit Fishing that has done some extensive work testing knots and seeing how and why they fail by watching the knots under a very close macro lens. He’s used the knowledge he’s gained to develop his own knot, which he developed by carefully understanding the pitfalls of different knots and then creating one that avoided those. Anyway, I love that you geek out on knots and test them as thoroughly as you do. Keep that content coming. I thought you’d maybe appreciate checking out and testing a knot from another UA-camr geeking out on it and even going as far as developing his own knot.
Funny people call this the “fishing fool” knot just because someone made a UA-cam video about. This not has been being tied long before braid ever even hit the market. It is a modified uni knot.
@beanieweenie9543 i agree with you that its a modified uni knot. I have been tieing it since the 90's when i started fishing and my dad showed me and he has been using it longer than that. He started fishing in the 60's but wouldn't have learned the knot till later. Braided fishing line was invented in 1953 by YKG (according to google). The uni knot is credited to a Norman Duncan in 1960's. A little history lesson from goggle. The braid predates the uni knot there for you couldnt have tied a modified uni before braid hit the market.
What if you did the initial loop around the eye like the modified uni (doubled already), then apply it with the double Palomar knot? I have been doing that this past summer and never broke off once.
Great video Tyler and I have been watching your channel for the past couple of years and I subscribed to this channel as it is denitely straight to the point and really good information. I have been using the uni knot for decades and the double uni ever since I got back into fishing a few years ago and will definitely use this knot when froggin and punching with straight braid! Thanks from thr Cold True North of Stouffville, Ontario Canada
I’ve been using this knot with braid for decades! I had no idea it was a thing, or had a name. I’ve had hooks and traces break on me before this knot has. In fact, I can’t remember a single time when it’s let me down.
This is the 3rd video I’ve watched for the same knot, but this one actually made the most sense. So nice work and thank you! The breaking test clip made me a believer. 🎣
Used this knot for more than 10 years, at those internet times it was called fish-no-fool knot. It was the easiest to tie in winner's tests. Also it is very good for monoline, did not have to see its fail. Last season brought other person's fishing tackle caught by bushes (carp stole entire rod).
I agree on most lines. I bought a 50 lb.reaction tackle line. This knot breaks in the knot. Where as the modified clinch knot holds true and the line itself breaks away from the knot. Always experiment with knots at home and not with a big fish. But,thanks for the insight. Happy tight lines.
Wow. Ive been using the double palamor knot for my braided line and i gotta wrap my line around my lighter so i can pull hard enough to either straighten the hook, break my swivel or snap the line on 40 lb test. Will definitely be trying this one out
Thank you for your hard work! The improvised uni knot does well for braid, the double uni does well for fluorocarbon ( 3 tag ends ) , how does double uni do in test with braid? Thanks for everything 😊
Funny to see that. I was playing around one day looking for a strong knot to tie my line to a spool. Wrapping around the spool twice and tying a uni knot worked really well.
I really like the channel, & I love small technical things in fishing like knots. However, Steve Penaz on the NorthAmericanFishing UA-cam channel has not tests where the Berkley braid knot beat the Fish N Fool knot. I plan on testing it myself, but I thought you would find it interesting also.
You have to remember that Knot wars was sponsored by Berkey and used their testing machines. The Fish-N-Fool knot won in 2 out of the 3 line types and the Berkley braid knot didn't win any of them. Here is the Data from the Knot wars Series and you decide what knot really won. Fish-N-Fool, Mono 20.54 lb. Braid 19.44 lb. Fluoro 15.2 lb. Berkley knot Mono 19.8 lb. Braid 17.4 lb. Fluoro 19.6 lb.
Once again great insight to help my average fishing skills. I am curious if this knot reduces or eliminates braid slip during a hook set? With my current knot I’ll keep a longer tag but worried how many fish I’ve missed because of that scenario.
You didn't test the Fish-N-Fool Knot with the Fluorocarbon. Since the Fish-N-Fool Knot beat the Double San Diego Jam Knot on the Power Pro Braid. I am now curious to see how the Fish-N-Fool Knot will compare to the Double San Diego Jam Knot with Fluorocarbon. You know, you want to know also. I really enjoy your videos as they are very educational.
I've been looking for a strong knot for braid that didn't slip. I started with the palamar and went to Swindle's double shindo and it has never failed me. But it makes a huge knot and not very good when using a Texas rig punching grass. This should make things better.
You should tie the Fish N Fool knot with fluoro and make a video to see how it holds up. Your fluoro video shows the Double SD Jam knot to be the best. I wonder if the FnF would beat it?? FnF vs. Double SD Jam using fluoro would be a very interesting video.
@@rickmcguirk5252 the uni knot is the only 1 I have found works . On some lines I have to tie a figure 8 in the end of the tag line. Mainly fluorocarbon. Happy tight lines.
Hi with this knot going over 100% have you done a test to find the true breaking strain of the actual line you are using. This would show how generous the specification is from the particular line you are using for your testing with.
I wondered if changing from Monofilament to Braided changed the knot selection. You tested 7 different knots using either mono or fluorocarbon and the San Diego Jam won. I actually like the fact this knot won for braided. It's so much easier to tie. I changed to an SDJ when I saw your test video. I guess either would stand the test of time when forced to perform?
The heavier the line, the fewer turns on the knot. I do like knots that go twice through the eye. The first time I ever tied a Springer I caught a 298.8# YFT and 2 days later I got a 321# using the Springer too. It’s basically a Spangler (2x2) knot that’s tied incorrectly! I must say that I’ve never tied direct to a hook or lure with braid!

Looks like the eyecrosser knot. Most knots are strenghend by one, two or three loops thru the hook eye, before tieing your knot, just make sure they lay side by side and not cross over each other. The fishing fool knot has two loops before the uni. The fishing smart knot has three loops and the uni. The palomar can have four loops instead of the two.
The Double uni knot with three tag lines is even stronger.. We used 30lb braid and tested it 10 times with 5 wraps using basically the same setup and everytime the line broke at about 35lbs one even went to 39..the line always broke in the same spot as well, about 4 inches away from the knot..!
Do you have a method to measure the actual breaking strength of the line? Example: You state that the breaking strength of the knot is higher than the line, but what if your 50 lb line tests at 60 lb?

Im not saying you are wrong about your knot but In the KNOT WARS that was posted every week a few years back the Palamor knot proved to be the strongest knot for braid. Feel free to prove me wrong.
Man I am telling you according to my scale...it wasnt even close..I also saw that but I was blown away by this one
@@TylerBergerFishing Same here, the Palomar knot never worked for me. I guess those Palomar guys never used a scale to test it.
Polymer knot never fails
I kno a better way to tie that same knot bye doubleing up my line on that uni knot
103.64 percent. Bahahaha. What utter nonsense.
Unless you tell us the names of the other knots you tested, this doesn't mean SQUAT!
Your veido is broke up😢
