Hey guys, in this video, I talk about one of the most underrated credit card setups, the Capital One Duo. Also well known as the Capital One Bifecta, this credit card setup is composed of the Capital One Venture X and Capital One Savor One, but you can also substitute in the Capital One Venture and/or the Capital One Savor Rewards instead if those cards suit you better. Not only do I give a review of both the Venture X and Savor one in this video, but I also discuss what makes these cards so powerful in combination with one another as well as who this setup is not for. If you’re looking to build out your credit card setup and are weighing your options, the Capital One Duo is definitely one to consider in my opinion. If you’ve been wondering “Is the Capital One Duo worth it?” or “Is the Capital One Duo better than the Chase and/or Amex Trifecta?” you’ve come to the right place.

What are your opinions on the Capital One Duo? 👇🏼
So happy I reached this card duo early in my CC journey. It really is an insane combo. Business class flights, here I come 🎉
Can you make a video comparing this to CSR? A few things that come to mind:
1) You get a $300 credit statement with Venture X ... yes but it can only be used through the C1 portal, while CSR will credit anything travel related. Trains, flights, AirBNB, Buses etc.
2) You get 2X back on everything else... yes but with CSR, if you use the no AF unlimited, with the multipliers it effectively becomes much more valuable than 2x. So besides having to carry 2 cards instead of 1, there's no reason that 2x is really that valuable. Nobody carries just 1 card with them anyways.
3) You can rack up C1 points and transfer them out to partners ... yes but Chase partners are much better, easier to use, and have more value (ie. Hyatt).
4) You can redeem for cash back... yes but Chase cash back is much more valuable, for those who want flexibility... maybe need cash in a pinch and don't feel like traveling for a while.
5) You can pair this card with Savor or Savor one ... yes but good luck!!!! Capital is BOTTOM on the ranking for chances of getting approved.... I personally know a handful of folks who have never been approved, despite having a good range of spending habits, credit scores, number of cards, etc. There are entire reddit pages dedicated to people who got ONE of the duo cards and have been UNABLE to get the other. And they've been trying for years.. Literally hundreds of people as dedicated to CC world as you and me. Yes Chase has their 5/24 rule but it better than being locked out for no explanation!
6) Customer service on Capital One YMMV, but between Chase, Amex, Citi, it ranks dead last. Again, the worst horror stories I've seen on Reddit of people not even getting their fraud experiences properly handled.
7) No foreign transaction fees, Referral program, primary CDW, Anniversary Bonus... chase CSR does all of those same things.
I'm glad you mentioned a lot to these points already. You're very thorough with your videos, great job.
The Main upper hand VentureX seems to have over CSR is the lounge pass for friends. But for those who fly solo it doesn't matter and I doubt that perk will stay around for long. Lounges are over rated, imo, just as a side note.... glorified cheese & crackers and salad bars, with some drinks, in seating areas that are just as crowded, sometimes MORE crowded, than the general space. Some of the lounges I've been to have felt like daycare centers for adults. IMO, Airports are never going to feel that luxurious with so many people being able to fly nowadays, horrible time zone shifts, long flights, at the end of the day, the lounges are like.... trying to put makeup on a pig...... Been traveling for 17 years it's always exhausting no matter if you're sitting in a crowded lounge or crowded waiting room. cheese & crackers and a club soda isn't all the hype like people think it is. 90% do not have shower rooms or anything beyond some places to sit.
Love your content, new fan!
It looks like you practically made that video for me! This was a super insightful comment and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. This is definitely a video I'd consider making in the future and I'll add it to my list! I definitely have a lot of thoughts on this topic.
So far this is the best video about the Capital One duo! Great breakdown of the positive and negative aspects of the setup Spencer!
You're the man Cesar! Thank you!
The Savor One is one of the most underrated cards out there and it doesn't get enough attention. With all those rewards and categories, with both a combination of cash back and travel based rewards, plus no foreign transaction fee. It's terrific.
It’s super powerful for a no annual fee card, that’s for sure!
And dont forget with the free Uber One account (that actually pays you 10 cents to have) you can then link that account to a free Marriott Bonvoy account, earn 2X-6X points from rides and eats for hotel stays, on top of the 10x points you get from Cap One!
Freedom flex instead
Capital One! 🔥 there can never be too many videos on this duo!
Haha I'm happy to hear that!
I’ve always had fantastic customer service with Capital One. I have always found them very helpful and friendly.
Its pretty cool that capital one bought Discover
Sounds great ❤ I enjoy watching you on UA-cam ❤
Thank you so much for your support Vicki!
Cap One duo is so underrated
What I love about the Venture X is it’s fairly easy to get positive value out of it without really having to do a lot of travel throughout the year. Definitely a card that could be considered a keeper card even for conservative travelers. I’ll be curious in the years to come how both the annual fee and credits change.
I think the savor is definitely a great option as well! At this point in my current setup I’m planning to keep my Amex gold for my dining and grocery needs. Great video Spencer!
I completely agree with you! It's definitely a versatile travel card. And the Savor One is super powerful too. I see myself adding it at some point probably. Thanks for watching as always!!
Another great video and information! I was always hesitant to try the C1 preapproval tool for the Venture X as there never seems to be an option for that card. Well, that changed because I noticed someone in this video thread said to try the link regarding the specific Venture X preapproval site (didn't know there was such a thing lol) and was approved for the Venture X with 20,000 limit. Thanks again for the great info!
Thanks so much! I love the comment section for that exact reason. I had no clue about that specific link either! Congrats on your approval!!!
This Capital One Duo is ESPECIALLY great for people living in suburbs or smaller cities where they have limited access to Uber and the other dining credit restaurants. Amex and Chase gotta keep their eye on Capital One these days 👀
You're not wrong! Cap1 is coming for a top spot for sure.
This is a great setup! P2 has the Vx and gets offers for the Savour1 almost everyday, but we are holding off to get below 5/24 in September. But someday soon we will run this duo for sure! Nice video sir! Thanks for the info!
It's definitely powerful! Thank you for your support!
Great breakdown and video, always fun to see “Editor creator.” Other banks *huge nudge* should maybe adopt a two card set ups with solid multipliers and strong catchalls…I feel like that would be a…smart idea. Awesome stuff as always Spencer.
Thanks so much Matt! I just wanted to avoid some of the comments I'd inevitably get for not mentioning those other categories haha. And I agree with you on the duo front! We'll see how other lenders react to this new setup over time.
Crazy! I was thinking of doing Sapphire or Premier but I already have SavorOne. Interesting!
Great video! I appreciate your discussion of the Savor One in particular - I think it’s the best no-fee alternative to the Amex Gold with its 10% Uber and year of Uber One. The 3% is pretty standard but the overall card value sets it apart in my opinion. Also a nice opportunity for someone in cash back mode right now to still get solid earnings and perhaps move into travel when life allows! The VX will probably be on my radar next year after I’ve gardened for a while.
Thanks so much Josh! I completely agree with you though. It's honestly such a good no annual fee card and it's one I see myself adding one day.
Thanks for the info + video!
Thanks for watching man!
For me I would say that Amex gold venture x duo is more appealing just because I live in a big city and take advantage of those Uber credits every year, but that savor one no AF is definitely appealing too! Great vid!
I bet you liked my video about that duo then! 😆 Everyone has a different preference so you just gotta use what works for you for sure! Thanks for being here Vince!
I have this setup as my first setup and it’s by far my favorite. Also when comparing travel portals I would say it’s a toss up between C1 and Chase. The VX in the travel portal is super OP because of its ability to pay back travel with points, even after getting the 5x or 10x bonus.
That's awesome! Thank you for sharing your experience!
I was going to comment about the 4% streaming and entertainment. But you tidied it up nicely! Lol. I actually spend quite a bit on entertainment.... baseball games, concerts, basketball games... but I'd also say the first year is always worth the Savor because you get $300 or 30k points instead of $200/20k points so every dollar spent towards the bonus categories on the first year is coming up on top.
Haha I'm glad I mentioned in post then! And that's fair. Everyone has their own needs!
It’s a great early set up for those who don’t want to churn or use 3+ cards. For a simple P2 set up get one person into Chase for Hyatt transfers and the other into Cap1 for flights
That's a solid idea!
The Capital One Duo is certainly a super powerful setup, and completely agree with you that for pretty much everyone the $95 Savor is a waste compared to just sticking with 3x on Dining on the Savor One. I do think the Savor One especially is a really good No Fee Card with some well-rounded multipliers as well as the current Uber benefits. Converting earnings from the Savor One to the Venture X for Cap One Miles can definitely be super useful if you prioritize Points for travel experiences. I just transferred points over from Chase to Aeroplan (super flexible partner with a lot of options), that'll get me over 5 cents/point for my trip to Central America, so Cap One still definitely has some solid travel partners as you mentioned! (even if the travel partners aren't as good as Chase or AMEX) Great video here Spencer!
I would say for young single people or couples yes it's a waste, but for a family of 5, $9500 is nothing for dining, entertainment and streaming. Also, my ATT monthly internet codes as streaming as well. As for entertainment, that includes sports events, amusement parks, movie theaters, zoos, etc. We hit $9500 without even including dining.
Thanks for all your insight Matt! I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a thoughtful comment as always.
Got Venture X in April and got Savor one today. So it took only 4 months. Have Chase Trifect already. Will also keep the Preferred for better travel insurance.
I’m one month in with the Duo and can confirm this is perfect for anyone working abroad. Zero FT fees and 2-3x on everything you can pay with card. Also, Cash Back can only be transferred to Miles on the website, not in the app. That took a bit to figure out. So, to summarize: 💵💶💷💳🤑
That's awesome to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience!
I have the Savor card with no AF. Was one of the early holders of the Savor before the Savor one came along. Thinking i need to go ahead and get the Venture X !
Nice!! The Venture X makes the Savor One even more powerful so if you're a bit of a traveler, I'd highly consider it!
MtnBob the goat, joined the discord and he quickly helped me with my question.
He's awesome!
starting to lean heavily toward this as my go to grocery card for 2024 (my Flex has me covered at 5x for the rest of 2023) instead of the Amex Gold. Sign up points on the Gold are tempting and I am sure I could typically use the monthly credits to offset annual fee but thinking I'd rather not dedicate the brain power for the additional 1% earning (again although the welcome offer is powerful) as I already have to dedicate so much brain power to maximize the Platinum. Also doesn't appear there is a cap on the earnings of the 3% earnings on the Savor either. Only factor is can I use the points then as effectively with their transfer partners. And then I hear you mention the 6 month rule which would certainly throw a wrench into the plans.
I have used Capitol one’s portal several times this year. I have found that they are extremely competitive especially with rental cars. Several times they were a better value than Costco’s car rental service. If you pay with your card through the Portal yo get 10X points. When it clears you can pay back your Capitol one VX car rental fees with your accelerated 10X points. Great video. I will get the Savor 1 card as soon as I hit the 6 month mark.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing your experience and for your support too!
I like the idea of starting with the Savor for the welcome bonus and then downgrade to the Savor One after a year. Also, that extra 1% on entertainment is nothing to sneeze at if you ever go bowling or purchase anything involving tickets like Disneyland or anything in the theme parks themselves.
That's not a bad idea! And that's true about the extra 1x. It just depends on how much you're spending in those 4x categories.
It's a great duo. Cap1 transfer partners are underrated. Honestly, travel portals for many folks are likely underrated.
I agree man! Some folks need to stop worrying so much about CPP and go get some use out of their points...
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial4:45 that's where the chase ritz carlton Visa earns the win over the venture x
The no FTF is without question the best perk of the card. Absolutely nutty. And it might not seem like much but the fact that you can transfer some miles while using some cash back is nutty too. This setup is versatile on so many levels. The Venture X has to be getting nerfed soon.
Nice I just got the savor one.
Congrats!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I’m pairing it with my Discover 5% rotating cats. I feel I have a really good duo for my thin credit profile right now!
Enjoyed the overview & perspective. For me, having to use the travel portal to get that 300 dollars back is the biggest turnoff. The CSR wins in this category for me, even with a $250 AF remaining.
I'm happy to hear that! And I respect that perspective. I think you could get value from both, but if you just want one, the CSR is also a really good option.
if this were my video, it would be titled 'The Duo from the Company that Hates Me" hahaha... Good video Spencer
Hahah they don’t know what they’re missing!
This was a nice video. I don't use this duo because I prefer the Chase trifecta (due to the Hyatt partnership) however I still have the Venture X. Why? The card basically pays for itself with the $300 credit, if I'm ever in a bind and have to pay cash for something 10x back in the travel portal is really nice, and finally you get the lounge access and most cards that give you lounge access have a much higher annual fee/harder to use credits. Venture X's partners are really good on the flying side if you know how to transfer and take advantage of airline alliances but it's lacking in hotels, otherwise I wouldn't bother with Chase at all. I find its easier to use up my points when there is a good hotel transfer partner.
Thanks so much! I have all the cards you mentioned here and couldn't agree more about the VX. It really slots into any travel setup.
Cap 1 duo is great. Just wish cap 1 could get some better travel partners.
Nice video
Thanks for watching as always man!
Capital one was my first card. I got a secured card with them a few years ago. Then got the quicksilver cash back pretty soon after that. Then got a savor one 7 months ago and a venture 1 month ago. So now I’m at 4 capital one cards 😂
So they definitely prefer you start with them.
That's a great data point to have! Thanks for sharing that with us!
Did you get the venture’s 75k sign-up bonus? I’ve heard that if you have any capital one card at all then you can’t qualify for that bonus
@@GraceBrigham98 yea I did!
I applied for the Venture X and Savor One on the same day and got approved for both.
What Voodoo magic 🪄 you did to get approved for both lol
That's awesome! Congrats on that!
@@callmeNeno When I was approved for the Venture X, I immediately tried to apply for the Savor One. They said I would be contacted by CO in a few days, but I decided to call them directly. Then they asked for my driver's license and approved me right after.
I have the savor one card and love it! I want to add the regular venture card for $95 annual fee for when I travel only carry 3-4 cards
That's awesome! Keep me updated on that application!
For me, on the positive side capital one let me have 3 cards and be an authorized user on a 4th (I would get rid of 2 and only have the duo but that would kill my credit age) and customer service was quick and easy when I called.
But on the negative side, I haven't seen a way to convert my savor rewards to travel points and that's a HUGE bummer
Thanks for doing the math and showing that the Savor card really isn’t worth it unless you spend over $9k/yr. I think the streaming category will have minimal impact to that tho. I wonder if Capital One will approve me for the Venture X 🤔. Considering even Amex denied me, idk about Capital One 🤣
No problem! You know I'm a numbers guy so I had to do that haha. As for the VX, I'd check that preapproval tool every once in a while if you're thinking of adding it. Hopefully Cap1 will show you some more respect than Amex 😆
all good info, I like the look of the venture X and I keep getting pre approvals for the savor one and I guess it would be a way to break out of the quicksilver one bucket. My issue with this setup is I don't see a decent hotel transfer partner really. Or atleast don't know of one. Chase you have hyatt and amex you have hilton. Both of them have marriot. I forget who has choice hotels and Barclay's has whyndam "resorts are really nice btw, hotels not so much". Being mostly a domestic traveler, hotels are my thing. Preferably hyatt and hilton right now and possibly some mariots in the future. Once the kiddos get a little older and more mature enough to fly without being those kids that run up and down the aisle, we can venture out farther. The next cards I am looking at on my radar are down the line into next year unless a big purchase pops up and I can justify a 10k spend on a amex biz gold. I need to get out of pop up jail and 5/24
That's completely fair! However, you could just make your Cap1 miles your flight points if you wanted to use your Chase and Amex points for hotels. It just kinda depends on your specific travel habits. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as always!
The no Foreign transaction fee is really what puts all these cards ahead of the rest for me and should be be mentioned more as a key point in these vids. What good is 3% back when you have to pay a 3% foreign transaction fee lol
That's definitely a powerful perk!!
Got the venture x today. It's my first card. It showed venture x in the pre-approval flow
That's awesome! That's a pretty wild card to get approved for right off the bat, so congrats on that! If you ever want to cancel it, I'd highly recommend you downgrade it to a no annual fee card instead to keep that card account alive to help your credit score.
International airline travel partners are what I want for getting the best deals on domestic USA travel.
For example, Virgin Atlantic miles for booking Delta flights.
But for me, over the past seven years, every time I got on airplane I was going halfway around the World.
Thank you
I’m close to the 6th month mark since I was last approved for a credit card. I’m checking the pre approval process at least twice a month to see where’s they see me. I have had my capital one card for almost 3 years now (went from platinum to savor one via product change). I’m hoping to be approved during the holiday season.
Nice man! I feel like you have pretty good odds at getting one of their cards, especially if you're preapproved for them already.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial their main thing was my number of accounts and total inquiries. Full disclosure I started my credit history during 2020 so not the best time to start. But a lot of the hard pulls are dropping off in the next 6-10 months. I’m honestly in no hurry to get approved. But I would like to get approved by next spring at the latest for my vacation.
Nice breakdown of this setup Spencer! The SavorOne is definitely a no-brainer at this point for a lot of people, especially because of the Uber benefits and multiple very helpful 3X categories in a no annual fee package! I'd totally get this card myself, but I don't like the 3 hard pull situation, and it adds to Chase 5/24 as a personal card so I've been gardening. Maybe one day I'll get this card - it's nice that they have a preapproval tool for it as well!
I appreciate you Stan! And I agree. It’s a really solid no annual fee card (probably one that I should pick up) but it isn’t worth a 5/24 slot for me at the moment either. Thanks for being here as always!!
Hey Spencer!💕 Random questions and kinda unrelated, but I have an amEx gold card which is perfect for my lifestyle. I'd like to expand the ecosystem but can't justify the platinum rn since I don't travel much. If I get the amEx BBP Blue Business Plus card (I have a small online business), would those catch-all x2 points be able to transfer to my Gold card? can I mix the buisness and personal in MR points?
Hey! Good question! Your Amex points across all MR point earning cards look into one point account, so yes you can mix your business and personal MR points with no extra effort!
For anyone reading the comments, this video is easily one of the best breakdowns of each card individually AND together! Spencer, this video was great! I got the SavorOne (no AF) for my gf as her first credit card last month and she's been liking using the card! She isn't like us credit card nerds, she only wants one card to use and manage (boo, I know) and only cares for cash back because I do all of our travel booking lol. She really only uses it for dining and groceries (unless at Target, but she's an A/U on my Target RedCard), so this was a no-brainer. She likes the app UI and as her checking account is also with Capital One, she likes the ease of being able to manage both accounts in one place!
I don't think anyone has made a video comparing the different credit card app UI's, maybe that's a video idea?
Amex is the cleanest I've used! Chase is a close second, but Amex wins for me because it's dark and I have everything on dark mode!
@11:05 this almost turned into a "Watch Me Apply" video. 🤣
- Ivan
You're awesome man!! I appreciate your support a ton. I love to hear that your gf is getting a lot of use from her Savor One. As for your suggestion, that's definitely a video I should consider now that I have access to all 4 big lenders... and ya man, I almost convinced myself to add that Savor One 😆 Maybe one day...
The C1 duo is definitely underrated, once they step up their customer service, they’ll be set!
Agreed!
Test driving the Savior one and Amex gold the rest of 2023. Hopefully have the VX in 2024 … The Amex Plat AF and credits are just not appealing to me. But I guess we will see. I will say I just received both cards in the last month and the biggest difference is Amex customer service is light years ahead of Cap1. But the Savior one card is a swiss army knife in this credit card jungle.
You'll have to let me know how that test drive goes! And thanks for sharing your experience so far. I'd be interested to see if you find the AF worth it on the Gold or not compared to the Savor One's value for no annual fee.
I have had the Venture X for about a month and it’s a great card. Halfway to the $4k spend already. Can’t beat 2x on all other purchases. Already applied for my global entry as well. Want to apply for Savor One but don’t want to get denied since they have that 6 month rule. Or should I try?
Wait the 6 months. There is no need to add a hard inquiry on your report if they may deny you for that reason. But if you really want to, see if you pre-qualify for it on their website before deciding.
That's awesome to hear you're getting good value from the VX! As for the Savor One, you can check their preapproval tool periodically to see if you could get the Savor One earlier than that 6 month window, but that's the only real way to know. Just try not to abuse that tool.
The $300 travel credit is extremely easy to get. I book all of my rental cars through the portal because I get 10% back and Hertz still recognizes your status within the portal.
Thanks for sharing your strategies! Rental cars could definitely be a way to trigger that if you use those frequently.
Can i purchase airline for future date say 2 months out... then cancel the flight with the airline after the $300 credit has been posted by capone??
If I just got approved for the venture x but I want the Savor One how long should I wait to apply? Can I do it immediately? I’d like to take advantage of the grocery benefits of the savior one
They technically have a 6-month rule as I mentioned in the video, however, that doesn't always apply to everyone. I've heard of people adding their second Cap1 card as soon as a month later, but I generally wait at least 3 months between applications. I'd read up on some more data points before trying to apply again, but then again, you could just check their preapproval tool to see if you could add it as soon as you want.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial thank you and great video
Thanks for replying to my comment. Would love to hear your thoughts if you make a video comparing top travel cards.
Considering what I said about lounges being overly glorified for cheese & crackers lol .... this is all personal perspective.
If someone travels 2 times a month and really loves a lounge experience, then lounges would be valuable to them and I'd argue the AmEx platinum would suit them well. Especially if they're a Delta Loyal traveler and they're a huge foodie that could naturally use the AmEx Gold credits for deliveries, Cheesecake Factory, then the AmEx Trio Platinum-Gold-Business Blue Plus would actually be their best setup.
Again it all comes down to personality, spending habits and travel desires. I don't like lounges and only travel 1-2 times a year, so Platinum is a waste of money for me. Would never use those credits anyways. Someone else? Totally.
I get where you're coming from! I'll definitely be making more videos covering the luxury travel credit cards over time. Also, I've actually already made a video comparing a lot of the top travel cards which I mentioned at the end of this video if you wanna check that one out! I feel like you'd like it.
Hey man, i have a question that’s totally unrelated to this video; As someone with a lot of credit cards, how do you decide which credit card to use? And for what? ESPECIALLY when you have multiple credit cards with very similar (or exactly the same) perks/benefits/points per $ on any given category such as dining or travel). I have a total of 5 credit cards, my main premium ones being the Sapphire Preferred, Venture X, and Amex Gold.
Hey man! Personally, I generally use the cards that give me the most return on spend. However, you have to take into account point valuations as well. So for example, if you get 3x back on a Chase card but you value your Chase points at 2 cents/point with how you redeem (maybe with Hyatt for example), that would make 3x worth 6% effectively. That'll beat out almost any cash back card, but again, it all depends on how you redeem.
I think that you can add the Spark Plus Business Card to your Capital One account and get 2x miles instead of cash for your business spend - it’s advertised as a cash back card.
Fair point! I've read something similar. However, Cap1 business cards do report to your personal credit so if you're weary of adding to your 5/24 count then I'd take that into consideration.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial it’s more of a mention for people who already have the card. I currently have my Spark Plus sock drawered - I might have to pull it out again and start using it again.
It’s a very popular small business card.
Capital One issued me a Quicksilver One with no active accounts. Now, I'm eyeing Chase! I just got the Amazon Prime Visa with the $200 GC. Most of the time, it's only $100. I can't decide between the Freedom Unlimited or the Sapphire Preferred.
Nice!! Congrats on the new cards! Considering you have a catch all card in the Quicksilver already, it may be worth going straight for the CSP. However, there's no harm in adding the CFU as it's a no annual fee card.
I open the Savor card 95 annual fee like 3 months ago since I spend a lot on concerts on 4% but using my flex card currently on the 5% instead.
If the Savor card was 4% back on groceries I think it would be worth the 95 annual fee but it's still 3% unfortunately will downgrade to the Savor One unless they waive me the annual fee next yr for me.
Do you know if you can transfer points from the capital one Walmart rewards card to miles on the venture x?
no you can't
I love the VX but find it difficult to get value from the transfer partners. I live near a terminal where 92% of the flights are run by AA and using alliance partners is challenging for me due to the fact that I travel with my family and the allowable dates for transferability that can be utilized are not always the most accommodating. Since I find transferring through airline alliances challenging with my less than flexible use case I predominantly transfer points out to Hyatt via Chase.
That makes sense and I appreciate you sharing that! There are definitely ways to utilize alliances to book trips through Cap1s travel partners, but it's easier said than done, that's for sure. Sometimes simplicity is best which would maybe make the CSR better for you with Chase's travel partners and that 1.5x boost you get through their travel portal?
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial i predominantly use the VX for the credits, airport lounge and almost like a cash back to erase travel purchases when the mood strikes me and the CSP to transfer out to partners. I went with the CSP over the CSR since the transfer partners are the same and I already have the lounge access through the VX.
Can you do a Capital One Duo vs Chase Trifecta video please? I’m stuck between which one to choose lol
Honestly, I would try both to decide better (and get all the sign up bonus).
You can start with capital one first and the chase!
@@jan-louiscosme2164 thanks for your response! Good idea. I’m just not too sure if I want to pay the annual fees on both the venture x and sapphire preferred which was one reason why I was wondering. Also, I know Chase has that 5/24 rule so, if it’s worth it over Capital One’s combo, I was thinking if I should build that trifecta first before capital one if that were the case.
That's not a bad idea! I need to make an updated Chase Trifecta video nonetheless. I'm of the same opinion as the response below too. I'd say why not get both to try them out, but I understand not everyone wants too many cards. Technically it's smart to start with Chase cards because of the 5/24 rule, but you definitely don't have to. One thought I have is to maybe get the CFU (or CFF), then the CSP so you check out how you like Chase's ecosystem without getting the whole trifecta, then get the Savor One and Venture X afterward to try out Cap1. Of course, you don't have to do that by any means, but if you wanted to maximize your 5/24 status, you'd technically want Chase cards first, although if you're only getting 5 cards total then that status matters less as you'll never go over it... As I mentioned at the end of the video though, don't get too caught up with what to do. Just pick whichever cards you think you'll get the most value from and give em a shot!
Chase trifecta ☝️ número uno
I want to get the C1S1, but I’m at 7/24 currently. I have a C1 savings and checking account. I honestly want this for just the 3% back on entertainment and the 10% back on Uber Eats. What do you think my chances are?
I can't tell you what your chances are for sure, but their preapproval tool can give you a much better idea! With your velocity, I assume you may have to wait before they preapprove you, but there's no harm in checking!
We need more vids on cap 1
👀
Quick chase question! I just got approved for the CSP and am looking to get as much bonus points from other chase cards as possible. I’m 2.5 years out from getting my freedom flex bonus and have never had a freedom flex card, wife has a freedom og. Can I apply for a freedom flex card, get the freedom flex bonus, then a few months later downgrade my freedom unlimited card and get another freedom unlimited bonus? Or we getting the freedom flex card bonus stop me from getting an unlimited bonus for another 2 years? Sorry for the long question 🤣
First of all, you shouldn't ever be 2.5 years away from getting a bonus on the CFF since you can get a new bonus on that card every 2 years! And to answer the second part of your question, you can get a bonus on BOTH the CFF and CFU every 2 years. They act as separate products, so you can get 2 Freedom bonuses every 2 years technically. You just have to be sure you aren't holding the exact card you want another bonus on, so you can just product change it to a different Freedom card depending on what card you're going for the bonus on at the time. You don't have to cancel it to get the bonus again. Hopefully that helps!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial thank you for the response! Meant to say it’s been 2.5 years since I got my last CFU bonus. You’re one of the channels that helped me move to team travel to give it a shot! I’ve had credit cards for a while but had no clue I had so much to learn still 😂
Do you think an International Graduate Student with a very good credit score and has only one CC for more than a year would have a chance to get approved in applying venture X?
I would say so! As long as you’re able to apply for a U.S. credit card, I’d think you have a good shot. I’d just check they’re preapproval tool first!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial thanks man, your videos help me a lot as a foreigner who is trying to understand how the credit card works in the US.
I know that I am insignificant, but I just want to let you know that you just got a new subscriber...
@@giannux No problem at all man! And you're definitely significant. I genuinely appreciate every single one of my subscribers for their support so thank you!!
What redemptions have you gotten with your Cap 1 points?
None with Cap1 miles yet. I almost used them for a trip to Europe later this year but those plans still haven't come to fruition. I'm fine with stockpiling for now though!
The SavorOne's UberOne monthly statement credit takes forever to post. I canceled my UberOne membership frustrated by poor customer service. Capital One's Customer Service Agents had no clue about this card benefit.
Good to know! As I mentioned in the video, their customer service is a huge YMMV type of thing.
Shout out for calling it a “duo” and not some nonsense word like “bifecta”
Hahah that word has always rubbed me the wrong way.
Tried for the Venture X in June and got denied with 19 cards and a 800 score. Moved on to collected free nights at Hilton with 2 Amex cards since...
That's how Capital One is!! They're weird haha. Congrats on your other new cards though!
Great video. Gotta work on that shaking camera though.
Thank you! I noticed that when editing but I wasn't gonna refilm because of it... I'll just keep in in mind for next time! Thanks for the heads up!
I keep my NFCU duo instead ~~
That's fair!
It's groceries as well. It's easy to hit both more than $9.5k a year on dinning and groceries.
Groceries are only 3x on both
As mentioned below, the Savor Rewards only gives you 3x on groceries which is the same as the no annual fee Savor One.

Yes, if I’m successful on getting a Venture or the Venture X, I really not gonna bother applying for a Chase Card…
Fair enough!
Got approved for the Venture card. But they keep denying me for Venture X . Weird
Interesting... It could relate to how recently you opened the Venture card, but I'm not 100% certain.
CO need to give the miles instead of cashback on the Quicksilver card
I think it can be converted if you have a venture
@@kingsamvisuals Oh ok that is nice
They have the VentureOne that gives 1.25x miles
As mentioned below, you should be able to transfer that cash back to a Venture card if I'm not mistaken... I don't think that only applies to the Savor One.
👍🏻
Edit: Ahmad’s comment wasn’t showing for me, but you still got second! 🥈

What's your most cards daily?
Personally I use the Amex Gold and Capital One Venture X the most right now.
I’m lucky I don’t have an annual fee on the Savor card
The no annual fee version is really solid!
2 card limit is a total rumor and not true at all. I’ve discussed with multiple capital one reps and they’ve said that’s totally made up
IMO you won’t get approved for it based of my experiences and your current status of how many cards have you had for 12 months
Capital One can be inquiry sensitive for sure. It just depends on the person!
Did you see that capital one just destroyed this duo. They no longer let you transfer your rewards from one to the other.
First (Matt didn’t spell it out, he’s disqualified)
Update: Ahmad was first, then Soxgators, then Matt… you better be upset with Matt booting you out of the running CJ 🤣 Thanks for being here so early nonetheless man!

SavorOne is to credit cards what fly-fishing is to fishing.

I’ll give an example of bad customer services……Barclays in specifics for the Aviator 💳 they are terrible, beginning with their cust service department, it’s located on the other side of the world where English is NOT their main language, I could go on and on and ON with their extremely poor “cust service” they are really, really, REALLY bad 👎🏼

Chase trifecta is still better
Don’t want capital one trifecta
That's fair!
And also on the back of the SavorOne card it say World Elite! so we are ELITE I just thought that was Awesome when I first got the card and saw that on it #WhatsinyourWallet #TeamCashBack
Haha that's a good point! The Savor One is definitely a solid card!
I don't know why people aren't fans of the airline transfer partners for Capital One because most if not all of those airlines are better than the crappy US airlines (I'm talking to YOU United and you're not far behind American). People need to get out of their US company comfort bubbles, there are great international airlines partnered with Capital One
Hey Spencer, I disagree with your assessments regarding the usefulness for team cashback and the Saver One vs Savor comparison.
Point one, for Team Cashback, the Savor Cards by themselves are to be avoided since for statement credits they redeem at 0.5 cents per point which is below even AMEX.0.6 cents per point. Unless you want to go through the hassle of getting gift cards from various stores, if you are Team Cashback, Chase or Citibank is less work since statement credits are 1 cent per point at least.
Point two, given the true power lies in both Savor and Venture X and using the points accumulated as miles then logically if you accumulate more points faster the more value you will receive. In other words, if you value the points at 2 cents per point through the use of travel partners transfers then the breakeven from combined spend from dining, streaming services, and entertainment (not separately as implied by your remarks regarding dining being the most likely category for us ( this is true but irrelevant) then the breakeven point for holding the Savor drops from $9500 to $4750). If you can are a savvy shopper and can get 3 cents a point then the combined spend is only $3168 for the entire year and so forth.
Of course, if you are going to just use the travel portal for your needs then at 1 cent per point, you would need the full $9500 from dining, streaming, and entertainment to break even holding the Savor.
Hey there! I appreciate your thoughts on this! I'll give my responses to each of your points below:
Point 1: While your math is correct for Capital One MILES, that is not correct for cash back earned on their cash back cards. Those redemption rates will be 1 cpp.
Point 2: I agree that the breakeven moves if you're someone using the Savor One (or Savor Rewards) in combination with a Venture card and use those miles with transfer partners at a high CPP value. However, speaking on straight cash back, the math I showed is correct as you noted later.
Thank you for keeping me honest though! Funny enough, your point 2 is something I explained in the rough cut of the video, but the explanation was so long that I decided to cut it and would let folks do their own math based on their spending habits as you've done here. Thanks again!
I agree that this Capital One Duo is underrated. The Venture X and the SavorOne are the two best cards that Capital One offers. Most of their other cards are not that great. The Venture X is definitely a good alternative to the Amex Platinum or the CSR. The SavorOne is definitely better than the Savor card with the $95 annual fee. I think that probably very few people would benefit from the 4x categories on the Savor card. Honestly, the SavorOne card is a good card, especially for people early in their credit card journey or those who only want a few cards in their wallet. I just got it in March of this year, but I got it mainly for the 3% back on entertainment because of the wide variety of purchases that qualify as entertainment. I have other cards where I can get 5% back on groceries, restaurants, and streaming services. It’s probably not a bad idea to get Capital One cards early in one’s credit card journey, but not too early or they may be “bucketed” when it comes to welcome offers. The 2 card maximum, I think is a YMMV type rule, and to my understanding Capital One co-branded cards do not count towards the 2 card rule. As always great video!
It seems like we’re in agreement on this setup!! I really appreciate you leaving a thoughtful comment as always man. I know it really helps people out!
