  • Just back from a short trip to the island of NIUE, which is a small island located in the pacific ocean. Crystal clear water, home to many great species such as Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Job fish and more. This tropical paradise is a short easy getaway, with a 3 hour flight from New Zealand. It provides sensational diving and opportunities at great pelagic fish. We used BJ at "Fish Niue" for charter trips and were blessed with great service and knowledge of the area.

    We also did a trip to niue recently with BJ, and found much the same as what you guys encountered. Plenty of dogtooth around that 10-15kg mark almost every 2nd or 3rd drop. Biggest we got was 27kg but not a lot of huge fish around. The few fish we seen at the fads were also very cagey and super hard to get close to. Tons of big sharks at the fads too which was nerve wracking once the chum got them up to the surface
    It definitely takes a few hard learnings to get used to the blue water, we missed some rather huge wahoo, and by the time you get the hang of it it’s time to go home haha. Had a Such a wicked place

    Beautiful diving. You provide great narration. Why not shoot the giant grouper?

      Large grouper (Queensland/Bumble bee Grouper) like these are not always targeted due to them being protected in lots of places in the world (wide spread species with many names). Along with being very prone to ciguatera (a virus that is very dangerous through consumption of certain fish).

    Love the footage and narration. You using a 7.5mm shaft with 16mm bands on the 120? Looks like a great setup

      Thank you. We stayed in an air bnb near the wharf (Anakule), which would work well with the family. Very comfortable and walking proximity to town and the main wharf, across the road from the water. Depending on what the family would want to do, it would be a good option. Otherwise the main resort. Make sure to get a rental car and have a great time!

      thank you very much, is it safe for the kids to snorkel with the snakes around near the reef?

    • @WettieNZ
      @WettieNZ  7 місяців тому

      @@adran5916 Yes, the sea snakes in theory are only capable of biting the webbing between fingers and toes (due to size of mouth). Not to mention they don't tend to be aggressive just inquisitive.

      Fish Aggregating Device. Can come in many forms. But commonly anchored floats or floating contraption (doesn't have to be anchored) that is out in deep water often 300m to 1000m deep. Fish tend to aggregate around these as a reference point and create a food chain effect.
