    This was an extremely thoughtful and brilliantly presented topic and I'm thankful for it. My wife is going through a sort of instant menopause after having her hysterectomy. I didn't think much about menopause before then, and then the rage came. And I was kind of afraid to say or do anything for fear of setting off the rage. After she has been on hrt, it has helped immensely. And honestly she's not having the anxiety, guilt, and just general horrible feeling after having one of those rage episodes. HRT is a lifesaver for her and I'm so thankful it's working for her. Because as her husband, I want to help her the best I can through this and just didn't really know how or what to do.

    I love your honesty as a couple talking about difficult aspects of a marriage. It’s constant work on ourselves and working things out and having the hard conversations. Staying together in good times is easy it’s staying together through the hard times and figuring out how to help each other through things without killing each other lol xx

    Something nadia said about being afraid all the time struck me. I keep thinking about it. I was a lot more adventurous when I was younger but now I'm afraid of everything... heights, enclosed spaces, the dark, the flipping car wash, can you believe. Lol
    Feeling moody for no reason, tired, low energy, feeling like I'm 80 at times.
    I also feel sorry for the men in our lives who put up with us with compassion and understanding. Love them x
    Definitely something to take a closer look at. Thanks guys x

      I couldn’t agree more. There seems to be this ridiculous stigma, fear and scare-mongering surrounding HRT. Like you, it has changed my life. It’s amazing how something so simple can make such a big change for women going through the ‘change’. A lot of my female friends seem in denial of the menopause, but it happens to literally all of us. Once we understand and accept what’s going on with our bodies the quicker we can act to improve our lives and the lives of those around us. . Vitamins, exercise, good diet and self-care combined with HRT works. A prescription for anti-depressants or expensive counselling will NEVER WORK. We can’t fight what is a natural process, whether we like it or not. I’ve learned to embrace it. I really hope that women such as Nadia speaking up like this will help many, many women. And a bit more education/understanding on the part of the medical profession wouldn’t go amiss 😏

    Quite a profound statement Mark "my mind wasn't on the calendar". As a woman our minds are always on the calendar. In regards to what we eat, what we wear (white, oh no), what we pack in our purse, even down to how long or far to the next restroom! Thankfully I'm post menopausal and can wear white anytime I want 😃 and yes to HRT, hysterectomy at 46 yrs, am now 63 yrs.

    Dear Nadia & Mark, Kate Muir mentions your podcast in her fabulous new book 'Everything you need to know about the menopause (but were too afraid to ask)' so I came to listen to it and have now listened to loads of them and can identify with lots of the subjects you've covered - miscarriage, depression, GAD, addiction, recovery, menopause & HRT. I've been having ketamine treatment for treatment-resistant depression for over 2 years after unsuccessfully being prescribed numerous different antidepressants since I was 42 (I'm now 47). I finally managed to get HRT 9 months ago and it's been more effective at addressing my symptoms than any psychiatric treatment has been with none of the side effects and lots of long term health benefits. Now the fog's lifting I'm in the process of reducing the psychiatric medication and hope that at some point I will feel fit to return to my career after more than 2 years away from it. I think menopause training should be mandatory for all medics and its absolutely imperative that women know what to expect. Thank you for being so open and honest its inspired me to do the same S

    I’m single but I still identified with so much of this in terms of not realising how much oestrogen deficiency had impacted me and my life. I’ve always been an outgoing, adventurous person but in recent years have shrunk back to being unsociable, far more cautious and having little energy. And not being able to cope with things that I once revelled in. Recently I became very aware of how hard it was for my family to live with me - how vile I was being - so I pestered my GP until I saw their women’s health specialist and she prescribed me HRT. I’ve only been on it a few weeks but can already feel that life force returning. And I think my family can see the fun, up for anything me returning too. I’m not sure any relationship I’d been in would have survived this! You’re very lucky to have each other!

    A man could ask, with all the care and love in the world, if it’s ‘the time of the month’ and 99 times out of 100 it will be the wrong thing to say. Whether a woman is raging or crying, what she’s feeling is VERY, very real. By being asked asked the question, all she hears is that her feelings aren’t genuine and she’s just over-reacting. This is especially dangerous if a woman is upset about something her partner has done when he poses the question, which tells her in no uncertain terms that he’s claiming he’s blameless.

    HRT.. YES IS GOOD FOR THE TIME IT SUITS YOU..... 12 YEARS, (I was 40 because Of total hysterectomy) WAS THAT TIME FOR ME... AND LIKE YOU NADIA IT WAS A GAME CHANGER AND I WAS SO ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT IT...TELLING EVERYONE THEY SHOULD BE ON IT..... BUT THAT DOSNT LAST FOREVER EVENTUALLY...... I HAD TO COME OFF IT BECAUSE MY BODY DID NOT NEED IT ANYMORE.... IF FACT MY BODY REJECTED IT at 52 AND NOW I'M OFF IT THE LAST 17 YEARS IM IN MY LATE 60S@ I FEEL GREAT... IT WAS POISONING MY SYSTEM SO MY ADVICE IS BE AWARE YOUR BODY CHANGES ALL THE TIME AND DONT TAKE IT AS READ, THAT WILL BE YOU ON IT FOREVER @EVER.. IT MIGHT... BUT.... IT MIGHT NOT......

    Nadia, this was and is, such an important video, you have your finger right on 'the pulse' of that which needs to be addressed. ❤ As a result of your previous video, I made an appointment with my doctor and told her I wanted to go on HRT ... SHE REFUSED, saying that i am ' Too far down the line' as stopped having periods in my 40s and am now 58? She kept emphasising the possible dangers of taking HRT and I respectfully asked her, if she was up to date in this area? She just said ' Yes'? ... I will not let this go and will speak to her in a few weeks time and this time, I will be armed with lots of written evidence and data on the subject. If she refuses again, I will ask to see another GP.
    With regard to all such womens 'complaints' men really do need to be literally educated, dare I say it, almost to the point of a kind of ' wokeness' that being patronised, because one had a deficit of a hormone, is just not acceptable and NEVER WAS.
    Fundamentally, we are all at the mercy of our hormones, male and female and people need to understand how such things affect our physiology and make a gargantuan effort to shift the pendulum, to a place where men and women are more holistically respectful of each other .
    Well done mark. It is not easy talking about such things . LET'S MAKE EASIER ❤

      Ah, bless you. Having gone through something similar, my advice would be to seek out a doctor who has a good degree of understanding about menopause and HRT (they are rare). A decent GP will not prescribe HRT willy-nilly and they will take a lot of things into consideration for your safe-guarding. They’ll ask a lot of questions regarding your symptoms and the medical history of not only you, but your wider family members. If they feel your symptoms will be helped by prescribing HRT they will decipher which variety is best for you. You will be given monthly checks for the first 3 months. And every 6 months thereafter. Just don’t let them fob you off with anti-depressants and a course of CBT.

    My mum had a hysterectomy in her late 30s, and went on HRT straight away. It was great for her, but when she reached her late 50s, the gp strongly advised she came off it, and I'm not even sure why. So she then had to deal with menopausal symptoms, and it was pretty rubbish for her. I now wonder if she really needed to come off the HRT. Is there a limit on how long you can take it for? X

    I've tried to mention my concerns to my Dr about having menopausal symptoms but he just dismissed me and told me that there's no specific test to find out if I need hrt and I'm probably guessing that my age (44) is probably playing a part but it's putting a huge strain on my relationship and IDK what to do about it.... The sweats I get at night are awful too... My whole chest will be drenched and sometimes I'm so burning hot from head to toe that I can't sleep.... Because I have fibromyalgia, it's really hard for me to figure out which symptoms could be related either, because fatigue & pain are part of my daily life already! 😔 can anyone offer me some advice pls? 🙏🏼

      @theonewithfivedogs7117 3 роки тому +1

      I am so sorry you are feeling like this and your Dr is clearly not being sympathetic. Take a look at the NICE guidelines in relation to treatment of the peri/menopause. Go back to your Dr and refer him/her to the guidelines. If your Dr still refuses to help you, insist on being referred to a specialist. Also check out Louise Newson’s website. There is so much information on there. You do not need to suffer in silence. Good luck.

      @@MsBabylove11 You are very welcome. Unfortunately because many GP’s have only basic training in the menopause (that’s all they’re required to have) a lot of the symptoms can be misdiagnosed or as you say dismissed. Therefore we sometimes have to be a bit more forcefull. I really hope you get some relief. For some women the symptoms can be very debilitating and the right treatment can be lifechanging. X

Like do not even touch me you know? I feel bad for my hubby all the time.... It's like a weight over me and I've already lost so much of myself from the fibro! ....WTF is up with that chest sweat thing too? 😣

    • @theonewithfivedogs7117
      @theonewithfivedogs7117 3 роки тому

      @@MsBabylove11 I can imagine how difficult it all is for you as some of the symptoms will cross over. A good GP or meno specialist will have a check list of symptoms, as there are so many with the peri/menopause, and should take you through it to achieve a proper diagnosis. Once you have that you can look at the right treatment. The newer forms of HRT are much safer and actually offer a lot of protection against other diseases as we get older. But obviously you need the right diagnosis first. There are also lots of private women’s discussion groups on Instagram and FB where you will find many women going through the same. The sweats are horrid, particularly the night ones!!
