It can be very uncomfortable at times. Especially since most of my staff are old enough to be my father

I have went from being a lead to a supervisor with no previous experience and unfortunately the company does not offer any type of training either at the company or employee compensation program for college classes. I am not very good at speaking to others and I have been ran all over. We are short handed on supervisors and I’m even filling in on another shift that are extremely out of control. We also do not have an HR department that will reprimand and they do discourage doing write-ups. I was told by my boss that I need to learn how to talk to people and find ways to handle the situation myself…so UA-cam it is. I’m so glad I found you. Your very informative and cover my exact needs and concerns. I did subscribe and can not wait to learn more.

I love that you touched on the subject of competence to build credibility. Doing the work of transparency is much more difficult without that element of credibility. You nailed it. Thanks for this video!

thank you so much for your precious indications!! I just became the boss of my boss... meaning I was promoted to be the manager of a the team I was a member of before, including the person who managed the team before and was my boss ... a very akward situation and I truly appreciate all your suggestions. Thanks so much

    Good morning Makeda
Omggg you talk about it. all. 😬😁😩 I'm so here for this! Thank you so much. I just to work for a former colleague. It should have been awkward but he was like... Okay you know what it is lol (he was no effort colleague who slid into a promotion by acquisition/knowledgebase). I actually started with a clean slate with him as mgr; but he just refused to be present in his new role. Def celebrated when I got reassigned.

Let me get this straight - you become manager team leader what have you, and you ask the person you were promoted over for their input about what is going well and what needs to change? Yeah you're going to get push back and you'll be lucky you don't lose some of your best employees with that unprofessional type of snarky leadership. That attitude makes me wonder what you did to earn your promotion.

It is good management practice to evolve the members of your team and ask questions like what's working and what can we be doing better. I would hate to work for a leader that didn't evolve me or use my skills to there fullest. I set a vision for my team and explain where we're heading and why it's important, but I let them decide how we're going to get there. It's called setting courageous objectives.
