I am so glad that I came across your page. I work in a male dominated industry and the micro aggression is so real. I’m a young black woman who is dealing with older men’s egos. Thank you.
It was the hardest thing for me. But like you after some stumbles I realized I couldn’t do it without some help. And that’s when things started to turn around. Thanks for visiting the channel Ian
@@makeda.andrews I think it's also a matter of not feeling accountable for other people's feelings. Your job is to deliver fair/valuable feedback and how they react to that feedback is on them. For example, some employees are not ready for constructive feedback and are on their own journey to receive it better. You know?
Feedback on work is so important and not always fun to give to people. but if its done in the right way, it can be super valuable to both parties. I started calling it coaching, instead of feedback. most people feel much more comfortable getting coached, then feedback. It might be semantics, but it seems to help.
You're absolutely right that if it's done the right way it is super beneficial. I read this report by Gallup that says that like 60% of employees want performance feedback but only 20% receive it. Ummm BIG gap! I think it's because leaders don't know how to do it properly. I love your reframe of calling it coaching.
Great stuff Mak. We are always excited about your videos as well. That new manager advice is something that we always try to guide people on. It's a hard transition.
@@makeda.andrews No worries Mak. I'm always on your channel. What's your take on my latest video btw? What to do when a top person quits? Would love your expert take. ua-cam.com/video/icCPevbd0d4/v-deo.html
Thank you Nelson. You watching and gaining value from the content I put out is all the recognition I need. I do this to help all of you avoid the costly and painful mistakes I made so if I can help you in a tiny way - I did my job. Thanks for leaving a comment!
So happy you popped up! Love your informative approach and delivery! Just what I needed!!!! Will download all for reference as I navigate my new mgt role at new company. Thanks so much!
Thank you for the advice. I am a new supervisor for a Early Head start for infants and toddlers. I am going to watch more. I had teachers who make me feel I dont know what I am doing. I realize I can make everyone happy. I have to make decisions that is best for the center.
Absolutely! You hit the nail on the head when you said that you have to make the hard decisions in the best interest of the center. Just keep operating in integrity. I think you will find my video here very helpful: ua-cam.com/video/HEgWjt8zZYM/v-deo.html
I wasn't acting unprofessionally when employee let me down. I internalized it until it was making me ill and I was at risk of burnout. An employee should not be a reason you decide to quit. Luckily I caught it and changed my more laissez-faire management style to the more hands-on one she required. (I dislike micro-managers so had an exaggerated fear of becoming one...LOL!)
Pleased I watched this one as it had some great insights I relate to , especially emotional intelligence! Thank you for sharing this content , wish I had found Mak`s channel sooner , lots of catching up to do on all the videos.
Phenomenal video with phenomenal advice! I am starting a new management role within the next month -- this will be the first time I am expected to manage other people. I am nervous, but your video has provided insight and that I should trust myself. :) Thank you!
I would like to say something totally different. A family member is mad at me because I didn't hire someone from the background that he sent me (my Arab background). I clearly explained that she wasn't a good fit. Not even 1%. That person whom he sent can be beneficial and give more in another industry. I hired a Japanese woman and a white woman. And they are excelling in their position. I don't have to worry about work being turned late. They are amazing. And that family member is still mad and got even madder when he found out I hired white (the colonizers, his words) and a Japanese (covid) again his words, not mine. I am like, stay mad. 😅 I got to work every day, not worrying if I took a day off or something. Man! Sometimes family members are toxic. I am a retail store manager btw
New subscriber here! Great channel. I will be binge watching your videos for the next few weeks because I have the opportunity to be promoted to manager. I'm lowkey freaking out! Lol

Yah for sure! It’s such a simple thing to do yet it’s one of the least done things right?
