  • It’s no secret that firefighting is a dangerous job. However, many are unaware of the hidden danger that is the leading cause of firefighter line-of-duty deaths: occupational cancer.
Firefighters have a 9% higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14% higher risk of dying from cancer than the general U.S. population. This documentary-style video brings together veteran firefighters, cancer survivors, family members and subject matter experts to tell the real story of the ongoing battle against firefighter cancer.
The Firefighter Cancer Awareness video series was a project spearheaded by Wake County Fire Services and Emergency Management. If you’d like to learn more about the project and what else Wake County is doing to take action, visit wake.gov/firecancer.
