What's very unsettling - just how quiet they can be. They often just make gentle, campfire popping noises at first. This video illustrates that. Gives me the chills. Two nearly-deadly house fires I ran to sounded just like that. First one was in a kid's bedroom, with the two 4-6 year olds wandering outside on their own. Fire was out the window, licking at the roof eves. Gently! I first mistook it for a backyard fire - until I realized it's midnight on a Tues. Learned my lesson after that one.

None of these are EVs. From left to right: BMW 528i Chevy Cruz LT Hyundai Veloster 2.0 Subaru Outback PZEV Subaru Impreza hatchback (2012-2016 model) For those who don't know what an Outback pzev is, it means "Partial Zero Emission Vehicle." It is not an EV. It is 100% a combustion engine. The only difference between a normal engine and a PZEV is that it claims to burn fuel more cleanly, and therefore does not produce emissions that contribute to smog. Who knows what caused the fire. None of the cars look to be the cause; my guess is that it came from something in front of them (maybe a garbage pile or a garbage can, maybe a cigarette ignited the trash or a flammable liquid on the ground). What I do know for certain is that none of these are EVs and that while, yes, combustion engine vehicles are many times more likely to burn in a collision, EVs are hundreds of times more likely to spontaneously combust or ignite while charging-especially if improper/inferior charging cables or outlets are used.

That carport should have had sprinklers on the ceiling. Should be mandatory for any carport/garage under apartments. Those people were living above a hundred gallons of gasoline.
That was really eye opening. I worked in a large chemical plant and we had our own fire department. Most of the guys were volunteer firefighters in the township fire departments in the area and they were much quicker responding to fires, getting hose lines going, getting their SCBA’s on and getting the fire out. At least they saved the foundation on this one.
Well maybe if people voted to increase the fire department budget they could afford to have stations in LA that aren't so spread out. Especially in the valley
I used to. A person's car caught on fire because it was leaking gas. Same situation as this. Luckily it did not burn the building down, or start any other cars on fire. There were no cars parked close to it.
Yeah they didn't seem like they were in a particular hurry as usual. Probably still trying to wake up, tired from working their second job or commuting in from another state.
I knew as soon as the woman came screaming that there would be at least a few comments about it. It’s really easy to be a couch warrior, but you don’t know her situation. You don’t know if she only has liability insurance, or if she has something important inside of the car. Also, I would assume her apartment is upstairs in the building as well, the description is a little bit unclear, but it seems to indicate that somebody’s pet was still inside, could be hers as well, or another pet or loved one she is unable to get ahold of. Often in a moment of panic people will hyperfocus on one thing, in this case it appears to be her car, even though it is obviously destroyed. On another note, I am seeing a lot of comments about electric cars, it doesn’t look like any of these cars are electric vehicles, I am seeing a Subaru outback, a Hyundai Veloster, a Chevy Cruise, and a BMW sedan, probably a 5 series, maybe a 4 series, but from the taillights alone I can tell it’s pre-electric car era for BMW. Edit: I should’ve watched the whole video before commenting, looks like the BMW is a 5 series, but my comment stands, regardless, definitely pre-electric, also electric BMWs would have a badge indicating so on the vehicle. I can’t for the life of me make it out, but the other car that I originally did not see closest to the wall is, but I find it hard to believe that it’s an electric car being that firefighters are putting water directly on it.
Gas vehicle's fuel tanks would've been blowing up and firefighters wouldn't have been risking running up close to them in case they got blown out of their boots.
As a 24yr.Fire Vet.they could used the deck gun to flank the fire,But what kills me is If you have an active fire already be masked up ready to attack the fire.timing on attack was so slow,S.M.H.
I thought the same thing but then this building is gone so it is just stopping the spread to neighboring properties, correct? People think they should put out the original fire but you don't want to live in it or save the stuff in it, just let it burn up so it is less garbage.
Agree, 30 years on the job. When I was a firefighter you were expected to be masked up and ready to go as soon as you got off the rig. I expected my crews to be the same way when I was a captain. I think that the rigs now do not have BA'S in the seats they are now in cabinets which takes time. A deck gun would be good especially with that hydrant right there could have darkened it down just by dumping the tank. I have done that a number of times works pretty well. Thanks for your service
This is not only sad but scary. As bad as it is, I’m just hoping no one got hurt. Material things can be replaced, people can’t. No EV’s for me thank you. Thank you fire fighters and first responders.
You can not see the 5th car, so it's not possible to assume the 5th car wasn't an EV. The story reported 5 cars destroyed, at the beginning we see 4 cars. I googled this story and 4 or 5 articles that reported on it said it was under investigation. It could well have been an EV but it's not confirmed or it's being downplayed.
@mikeconnor3602 Okay, but regardless, as a firefighter, every car/truck fire I've ever fought has been a gas or diesel vehicle, so your point is moot. Combustion vehicles catch on fire frequently without needing to be in a wreck. It's not really unless an EV's batteries get damaged in a crash that you really run the risk of them catching fire. If it does catch fire, then god help you but they don't catch fire just sitting there.
Attention: Kia / Hundai have recently issued "spontaneous combustion" warnings for their vehicles. No, not their EV's. Old gas ones from 2010-2020 ish. (I don't see one here in the video, but it is worth mentioning, for public awareness.) "Do not park indoors or near any other vehicles/structures." This is only the LATEST chapter of the saga of the incredible, flammable KIA recalls. First, several years ago, they blamed the KIAs undercarriage (while driving on freeways!) fires on faulty fuel injectors. (Which would break off at freeway speeds and spray the engine with fuel.) Class Actions / settlements have already occurred. But now there's ANOTHER safety recall - this time, they blame faulty fuses in circuit boards. The recall notice basically states "if the check engine light comes on, pull over and jump out of your vehicle immediately." Not just EV's, but some gas-powered cars are extremely dangerous. Since KIA / Hundai have not controlled this issue for more than a decade - they are on my "never buy" list. Look it up!
Except that none of those vehicles appear to be EV. Where would they hook it up at an antiquated apartment building? You people are really at a loss of critical thinking skills, huh?

For all the people talking about EV cars in this fire, you’ve never lived in Los Angeles or in a wing bat, as they call these units. I say it’s incredibly rare to find one that actually has EV charging in the carport. Also, if you pause the video, the car where the fire originated clearly has an exhaust on the back of it.
Ok, I’ll buy that but what about the clowns that were helping themselves to other citizens gasoline some years back? The brain trust was storing the ill gotten gains in plastic garbage cans in the apartment closet, caused the whole complex to become ashes. Yup that’s L.A. for you.
Where else are they going to park? Besides, if the gasoline is contained in the vehicle, the vehicle is in good shape (no leaks and no electrical issues), and above all, no arsonists, it's safer than it looks. Not to mention keeping the area clean (no rubbish on the floor etc.) will go a long way towards that.
@@brianfancher2052 Yes, something happened all right. And that could be anything that would cause a fire. Perhaps an electrical fault with the car, arson, an electrical fault in the building itself, improper storage of combustibles, a carelessly discarded cigarette butt etc. Fires don't happen, they're caused. Even if there are no cars stored in the garage, a fire can still occur. The only way it can't occur is to tear the building down completely and don't build anything there.

I‘m curious - do US fire trucks carry water? Appeared as if they had to connect the hydrant first? Just wondering, because here, an engine usually carries about 2000l. So, you can attack within seconds after arrival, while preparing additional hoses and finding a hydrant to ensure on-going water supply. On the downside, hydrants are not as prominently placed but in the ground and thus sometimes more difficult to spot. Sometimes you need the map for that.

Doesn't look like an EV fire. Also looks like the fire was pretty evenly spread at the front of all the cars. Guessing something in front of them caught fire and spread to the cars.
And my property manager tells me that my electric bike is prohibited in the building. But they don't do anything about the electric cars in the parking lot.🤦♂️
The electric bike would be too close to the actual living units and had it caught fire, would very well cut off escape. At the very least, a fire in the parking garage would take longer to reach the living units in the building and people have more time to escape.
What I want to know is why did it take nearly ten minutes for the fire department to arrive and begin spraying the fire? I suspect the person filming called, there were multiple jump cuts by 3min when they arrived which makes me think it was at least five minutes in the film and about five minutes before filming. And then it still takes them several more minutes to turn the water on once they had the hoses stretched out and hooked up.

He's in his 60's. So am I. Work gets sporadic and difficult to get. Especially for gig workers.
I don't know how this fire started. But the jails have let out firebugs. And sometimes homeless people have been the most responsible for so many fires.
Of course a life is more important than a car.
But not to criminals it isn't.

Fires can be terrifying.. I walked past a victorian building in San Francisco where fire was already coming out one of the windows, and SFFD was not on scene yet..

Be calm and focused! Materialistic things can be replaced, your life or family cannot!

None of these are EVs. From left to right:
BMW 528i
Chevy Cruz LT
Hyundai Veloster 2.0
Subaru Outback PZEV
Subaru Impreza hatchback (2012-2016 model)
For those who don't know what an Outback pzev is, it means "Partial Zero Emission Vehicle." It is not an EV.
Thank God everyone made it out alive. I hope and pray 🙏🏻 the affected people will be able to recover for the damages. And hope their kitty is okay too. Amen

Old days their hoses were quick as a Bunny! 😢
The eye witness said “I have no idea how it started “ but the commenters do ?

I thought the same thing but then this building is gone so it is just stopping the spread to neighboring properties, correct? People think they should put out the original fire but you don't want to live in it or save the stuff in it, just let it burn up so it is less garbage.
They were really unprofessional
Agree, 30 years on the job. When I was a firefighter you were expected to be masked up and ready to go as soon as you got off the rig. I expected my crews to be the same way when I was a captain. I think that the rigs now do not have BA'S in the seats they are now in cabinets which takes time. A deck gun would be good especially with that hydrant right there could have darkened it down just by dumping the tank. I have done that a number of times works pretty well. Thanks for your service
Masking up in the rig is a big no no
The insurance companies are not going to be happy about this.
This is not only sad but scary. As bad as it is, I’m just hoping no one got hurt. Material things can be replaced, people can’t. No EV’s for me thank you. Thank you fire fighters and first responders.
They are all gas vehicles ffs
The cars were not EV.
@@WhiteNoise493It was an ev that started it
I hope they have comprehensive coverage on their auto policy!
Attention: Kia / Hundai have recently issued "spontaneous combustion" warnings for their vehicles. No, not their EV's. Old gas ones from 2010-2020 ish. (I don't see one here in the video, but it is worth mentioning, for public awareness.)
"Do not park indoors or near any other vehicles/structures." This is only the LATEST chapter of the saga of the incredible, flammable KIA recalls. First, several years ago, they blamed the KIAs undercarriage (while driving on freeways!) fires on faulty fuel injectors. (Which would break off at freeway speeds and spray the engine with fuel.)
Class Actions / settlements have already occurred.
But now there's ANOTHER safety recall - this time, they blame faulty fuses in circuit boards.
The recall notice basically states "if the check engine light comes on, pull over and jump out of your vehicle immediately."
Not just EV's, but some gas-powered cars are extremely dangerous. Since KIA / Hundai have not controlled this issue for more than a decade - they are on my "never buy" list.
Look it up!
Take a look.
If you're observant you'll see an exhaust system under every car at various points.

For all the people talking about EV cars in this fire, you’ve never lived in Los Angeles or in a wing bat, as they call these units. I will never buy an ev. What a joke this cars are getting to be. From fires within and not letting you and now to destroying property.
Doesn't look like an EV fire. Also looks like the fire was pretty evenly spread at the front of all the cars. Guessing something in front of them caught fire and spread to the cars.
Gretta's gonna be mad. All that smoke.
And my property manager tells me that my electric bike is prohibited in the building. But they don't do anything about the electric cars in the parking lot.🤦♂️
Meanwhile, no electric cars were in the parking lot in the first place. Go back to your Fox News shows
The electric bike would be too close to the actual living units and had it caught fire, would very well cut off escape.
