I bought a BMW 5 years ago, with much trepidation, because of rumors of poor reliability and expensive repairs. Well, I have driven her (a 2013 128i) 50K miles, and haven’t spent $1000 on mechanical repairs (the coils once, and one coil one other time, plus the oil filler housing gasket. That’s it, besides routine maintenance). The 60K service is coming up, and that will cost a bit, but the car has been a joy. Worth every penny! And if their reputation is accurate, Porsches are even more reliable. Expensive sports/luxury cars tend to be very good quality. They cost a bit when they DO break, but they don’t break that often. I was afraid I would regret buying my Bimmer, but I don’t! Glad if you have a similar experience!

Now THIS is where it's at. The others are beautiful machines, but they belong on the track. This trim is for the streets.
With how slow everyone in my area drives, I could get away with having sub 100bhp & easily flow with traffic. Having a higher trim 911 would be unusable 90% of the time. The base trim is pure, honest, & very usable.

I bought my base 992 almost exactly one year ago, I use it as a daily driver. So far it's been awesome except there is one small downside I found out about at an inconvenient time - the key fob eats batteries nonstop, as in it never stops drawing power on the battery. And you aren't going anywhere without a powered key fob. Now I keep a couple spare batteries in the car just in case, and I keep the spare fob disassembled in a plastic bag in the house so it cannot use up it's battery.
The 992 has met all my expectations. Younger me may have sprung for the Turbo, but today the base is fast enough. For a while I considered waiting for the T to come out, but I found my PDK on the Jacksonville Porsche lot with the color & options I wanted and decided it was time. All my other cars over the past 13 years are manuals and I have a beater 912 for those days I need to row on my own. In short I have no complaints about the PDK, if I did I would trade in for a T and that hasn't happened yet.
Regarding the S, I think the tuning potential is higher with the S because it comes stock with larger turbos. However you can pick up an ECU which not only gives the base model effectively the same power as the S, but also a bunch of options you'll find aren't in the standard Porsche menu like fully-time Sport mode (which also disables engine start/stop). So unless you're really looking to add a lot of customized power beyond what's available with an ECU don't discount the base model just for a few tenths of a second because an ECU can make up for it for not a lot of money.

Great video! If I was going to buy one, I’d buy this one. Living in the UK, with speed cameras everywhere, enjoying a car and revving it to redline isn’t the same in a torque monster like the 911 turbo. This takes more driver involvement to go through the rev range and plus it is still easily fast enough. Id also option the burmester and maybe the heritage seats

I think it is actually a reference to the slats being the current variant designation of "9-9-2" (two sets of 9 identical slats flanking one set of 2 brake lights). Or maybe....both which is even more clever. 😉

The 996 turbo has that "scary speed" Ted talks about but you only get like 4 seconds before you're going straight-to-jail speed. It just doesn't stop accelerating. Two different beasts altogether, but to each their own.

I had a 2022 base 911 for a year, my first, loved it, and would have kept it for good but was lucky to get one of the last 2023 Spyders as they stopped production. The base 911 is all you need if you want a 911. Get the 911 T which comes with a manual and all the best options including the missing sport torque differential from the base, and the best options standard.

Nice review. My only wish was that you could find a road where you could stay in the throttle when you hit third gear. Winding out the first three gears is a blast in that car.

This just shows to what extent 911s - all of them - are truly great sports cars and all rounders. No other car maker can boast this in the same way and with the same flavor.

I prefer the look of the stock exhaust and its quad pipes over the sports exhaust with the two oval pipes

I absolutely love the way the base 992.1 Carrera sounds WITHOUT the sports exhaust. It is great, such a wonderful car all-round. My main complaint would be it has a bit too much cabin noise. I do think it is a bit down on power, so the S model or a tune would be good.

I love seeing cars like this reviewed. I'm currently struggling to fix my 09 Vibe GT so I'm obviously in no way, shape or form in a position to even dream of a car like this. It's about obtainable as a GT3 RS but if I do dream then I can pretend a bit easier.

The fact that this doesn’t have a limited slip differential is a deal breaker tho. It‘s an expensive performance car, it should have one.

The 911 is always most impressive in base form. Just the C2 or C2S.
With the higher end trims, you kinda expect them to be amazing.

Old cup holder design was prone to failure and believe me when you stick iced drinks in them (like coffee or sodas) they drip condensation EVERYWHERE, including passenger legs and center dash.

I had this car for a year and half… and after only 9k miles it had a bunch of reliability issues. 3 electrical failures in 3 weeks… It was a nice car, but a bit boring 👀 the fuel range with the extended range fuel tank was awesome though, 29 mpg easily, and 650 miles on a tank

  • @scotttipper7341

He mentions rear wheel steering, which is not available on the base. No idea why not, when you can get PCCBs and things like a carbon roof. I have the RWS on my 991.2 C4S and love it.

Probably the best buy, just get a base model with 0 options, you’ll pretty much be able to drive it for a few years with very little depreciation

I have the prior cup holders and by no means is the one I have preferred. It is far flimsier and when your drink spills over - and it will. It spills into your a/c unit shorting it out. $900.00
