    The show teaches highly important values that far too many people in our global society have completely forgotten about.

      I watched it because I was drawn in by the artwork, music, and animations that came out of it. Although I stopped watching after Twilight became an Alicorn.. a mistake I'm correcting now that the show is finished.

    I've changed so much over the past 3 years of being in this fandom. Hell, it's the only fandom I've ever actually been part of. I've been in other fandoms before, but unlike this one, I don't quickly lose interest in it after about a month or so and then abandoning it forever. There will be a time where I'd eventually lose interest in MLP and its fandom, but I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon. There's still so much to look forward to, both in the show and in the fandom itself. So until that ride ends, I'll be sticking around in the community for a *very* long time. Or at least I hope so, it's been a really crazy ride, this fandom. c:

    I hate the official definition of brony. "An older male fan" so young guys can't be Bronies, too? Alrighty then.

    • @jk844100
      @jk844100 9 років тому +38

      There is no "official definition" of a brony because it's not recognised as a real word. For me a "Brony" is anyone who likes the show and invests time into the fandom be it by watching animations, listening to music, reading fanfiction or actually creating content. The "definition" of brony is whatever YOU feel it should be, the definition is what YOU think should qualify someone to be a brony.

    I could not be more grateful for this show, this fandom, and everything that they have brought me. Everything about MLP has brought light into my life, and has opened up more doors than I could have ever imagined. It has helped me discover more about who I am, what I enjoy, and what will keep me going as an individual. I just want to put this out there, I love each and every one of you, and cannot thank you enough for the happiness that you have brought me and will continue to bring. Say what you want, but I love these colorful cartoon horses.

      ***** Again your spelling is off, I will also point out your not posting on This Day Aria, pretty funny that you cannot even keep track of where you are on the internet. You should at least learn that computers have spell correct, and the video is at the TOP of your browser. I will also recommend Perfect by generalmumbles as it is a much better rendition of the song for those who do not like slower music.

      I got into MLP from watching the show with my sister. At first I thought the show was pretty good: Awesome characters, awesome short-lived villains, and a great story.
      I have to confess that I thought sometimes Pinkie Pie was a bit annoying at first, but I began to love the characters that the show had to offer. Heck, (ex) Queen Chrysalis is my favourite villian that's not been killed off or joined the good guys.

    How has My Little Pony: FiM effected my life?
    If it wasn't for MLP I probably wouldn't be here. Seriously, up to the few months before falling into the fandom I was going trough a very dark patch in my life were I had literally shut myself off from the world. Not only did the show help pull me out of that depression but it also helps keep me out of it to this day.
    And that is how a show about colourful ponies has changed and effected my life.

    I don't know why but the ending animation (before the credits) made me almost tear up. Like, at the very end I got the sense that the lights were the individual characters and seeing them travel through the clips gave me this sense of them watching us on this journey.
    I don't know why it made me tear up, maybe it's because when I was younger I would daydream and imagine favorite characters of mine with me, but I've never seen myself as the fan who saw the characters as anything besides characters I enjoyed. I guess my mind's been changed forever now and I'm going to see the characters completely differently.

    A show intended for little girls united men and female in a community of ''friendship''. I think this is a really great step for this generation. This show made me from the ''try-hard to be cool in school kid'' to the person everybody wants to hang around with. I mention this in the reason of when i was trying to be cool i was with the ''cool group'' in my high school classes and alot of pepole didint talk to me in the tought that i was mean but when i watched this show ''friendship helped me'' and when pepole talked to me I would actually talk with them and after i watched this show almost everybody in my classes knows me well. I feel GREAT of being a brony and when the show ends i wont be sad. I will be proud of what it did to me. I will still be really ''light-hearted'' as the documentary mentions. Thanks to all the staff and pepole who helped make Gen-4 a thing Cheers!

    This show is a beautiful reason alone to trust in the good in the world. I gladly stand up and call myself a brony. I have been a fan of the show for years but never really gave it a true blue chance until literally last month. I'd watch it casually through the years, testing the waters and liking it, but always pulling myself back for fear of drowning in its depth. I was so afraid of myself being allowed to feel anything like love and friendship back then that I shut myself up and stayed hidden. Now, after all these years, I have a wonderful life and a meaningful relationship of 10 years. I finally gave it a chance and now I can't let go. My only regret is that I didn't get into tjis fandom sooner.

    Overall, I must say that you two have done a tremendous job making this documentary. I've been in this fandom for two years and I have you to thank, Saberspark. This fandom really knows how to party and just have fun in their own ways, I was trying to find something to do and UA-cam suggested 'Ballad of the Brony' my curiosity get the best of me and I watched and I'd enjoyed it, then I watch the episodes and they to were enjoyable. I never really thought I would be standing here saying this but, This fandom has given me the ability to be more social. I used to be quite a quiet person, but the show really helped me out with getting out and meeting new people at meetups or cons. I wish to give a big thanks for not only the show staff but also this community for a wonderful two years of entertainment and fun. Thank you, Bronies.

    See, what I learn from this fandom is the love that y'all give to everypony who you see. For instance, me. Well, not me, but Derpy Hooves. Y'all created this complex character from less than a second shot of this adorable cross eyed pony. It is fantastic. Sconce I started commenting under this name, I have gotten so much love, it's humbling.
    In actual fact, I'm a 13 year old girl who lives in south of England. Apart from commenting and drawing the occasional pony (non of which are shared with those outside my closest school friends) I am pretty no active in the Brony world. I'm still very young in this fandom and some consider me being a fan normal. I guess I'm still just a little girl who loves ponies. Nothing wrong with that. Yet, I have always been scared to tell people I like the show (I'm always hesitant to call myself a Brony because of my age and gender). But, yesterday a random girl in the year above me at school came up to me and said this:
    "I hear you like the show 'My Little Pony". I found this sorta weird to start but then I watched a show, the first two actually. It was better than I expected." Then what she said sip prised me most. The different years in our school is pretty seperated (something I also fight to change). She said: "this is embarrassing but I was wondering if you could introduce me to the actual fandom"
    I was shocked, accepted of course and am introducing her as we speak. In England, there is less pony merch, yet all that I have sits proudly on my shelf in my room. I am no longer shy, not even around the pony subject. This show has really changed my life, and I hope it will continue to do so as I grow up and begin to think about my future. I actually am taking media and photography for my GCSEs (exams) and in College hope to take media and animation courses.
    I thank the whole bring fandom, for helping me be who I want to be, and have no fears in doing so.
    Thank you bronies everywhere. xx

      See this is what I'm saying. With my old account, nobody would reply and nobody actually cared what I was saying. I think that being a Brony is less just watching a show (which is awesome) but more a way I live now. Sounds cheesy but it's true. I live on the internet for reasons which I will not get into on said internet, so this all actually means lots to me. It's nice that people care about me and I feel like I have a voice for once. It's wonderful being a Brony.

    Thank you for creating this documentary, it helped me kind of understand bronies better. My experience with the fandom is rather stupid, where at first I didn't care much and didn't think they were a menace to society or anything, actually watched the whole first season, and thought it was ok but nothing special and didn't watch more. Then I was exposed to the awful side of the fandom and was harassed a bit for criticizing certain aspects of the show. I really resented them for a while and even (regrettably) blew up on them on tumblr. Now, I don't really care anymore and I apologize for my past actions against them, I was just generalizing a group based on a few of its members, and that's very hypocritical of me considering that's one of the things I hate most when people argue for why they hate something/someone.

    The music and hotdiggitydemons videos got me curious of the show back in August 2012. Also when I researched more I had a lot in common with most of the other fandom members. But not so much in Nascar and motor sports, until I saw ACRacebest. Also the denial in the first few months kind of did not help. But as I matured I realized that my inner child needed to be cared for. So I denounced the haters and learned that yes there are people out there who don't understand and often resort to common sense, lack thereof, to attack our fandom. You know what? I am proud to be a Brony. (Now we wait for hate comments!)

    This is the only fandom I have ever been apart of and I've only been in it for like 3 maybe 4 months, but it is the most amazing thing I've ever taken the time to look into. It's helped me break out of my shell of insecurity and social anxiety, the few bronies I've talked to have been the coolest people I've had the honor to speak to. I love the stuff that comes out of this community. It is truly amazing, whether it's music, or animations, or fanfics, or anything else, I have loved most if it.
    This is an amazing documentary, the work was top notch, well put together, heart-felt and funny. Great work.

    Saber,
    Thank you so much for helping/posting these documentary parts. This part hit home in particular for me, especially, as my entire family are Star Trek fans. Both of my parents had to go through the same social stigma growing up as fans of Star Trek as did I. Its only recently (with the advent of the J.J. Abrams movies) that Star Trek has sort of lost this ere of shunning that once defined it. In fact, the way fans of Star Trek were treated as I was growing up (name calling and bullying) has been duplicated (or even shifted) to MLP:FiM. I truly respect and appreciate all the effort that went into making these documentaries and I am so thankful to be a part of TWO diehard fandom now that have the similar ideals about society with rich communities of art, music, and friends.

    This was great. So many good points made. This fandom has helped me in so many ways. Not only in helping me get through really dark moments and times in my life but also helping me to be just a better person in general. I'm not as obsessed as I used to be, but I still enjoy a very healthy enjoyment of it. It's the only show that I immediately watch when a new episode comes out. I'm a big Whovian, but not even Doctor Who has my attention as much as MLP. One of the great things about this fandom is that despite being targeted and abused by others, instead of crumbling and becoming the same people that are targeting them, most of the fandom has stayed true and prideful of the show. They've stuck by it despite the bullies. It's amazing to see how a show can keep so many people together and help so many out. I'm proud to be a part of this fandom, and I will always identify as a Brony, just as I identify with the Doctor Who fandom, LotR, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Sherlock, they are all a part of what shaped me into who I am today. But none of the others will have done so like the Brony fandom and the show has done.

      Who cares what your dad thinks? I'm presuming from the way you worded it you're still living under his roof, and as someone who was doing the same at the height of the Brony fandom I know your feelings. I had a similar father who would have gotten aggressive with me over something far less divisive than the ponies so I definitely had to keep it to myself. And I always told myself someday we'd have to have that discussion and it'd be terrible. But a few years later and I've learned something, you really don't. You don't owe anyone anything just for being a family member, nor do you have to explain yourself to them. If they can't accept who you are then why bother, what obligation do you have to justify yourself simply because you're related? There's a whole world out there who will accept you, and far better arguments to be putting your time toward.

      I was equally terrified of telling my dad about it. I actually never told him. He knows now, mind you, but that's because I stopped caring about his opinion enough to just watch an episode and in the living room like it was no big deal. His reaction was actually kind of hilarious. He looked at me with an eyebrow raised and asked, "are you really watching this?" (the episode was "Make New Friends But Keep Discord") I responded with yes, and he shook his head and walked away. I didn't really care. He still gives me crap about it occasionally, but he's mostly cool as long as I don't try to involve him. It doesn't sound like your dad would be the same, unfortunately.

      @ATG3192 7 років тому +4

      What I have to say may help you out, maybe it won't. I became a brony probably around late 2011 to early 2012. Honestly, I was kinda scared to tell people that I was a brony, as I'm sure most bronies were. That being said, I confided in three of my closest friends before anyone else to test the waters and they all shrugged, kinda giving a "so?" vibe. My family, on the otherhand, I was a little more cautious to tell. However, my family ended up finding out (can't recall if I told my family or if they found me just watching MLP as it's been a long time since they found out).
      First thing is first, I was also raised in a very conservative, Christian household and I am very conservative. That being said, my conservative dad was kinda nonchalant about it; it was my mom, who spent her youth following more of a hippy mentality, that objected more vocally. Hell, my dad and middle brother actually watched the first two episodes (neither particularly cared for it, but respect my liking for it) and my youngest also kinda enjoys the show (he's no fan by any means, but he won't object if it's what happens to be on). My mom on the otherhand had a very passive aggressive way of vocalizing her objections to it. One day she said something along the lines of "I just hope this is one of your phases that you just outgrow" and I made her watch the Brony doumentary with Ashleigh Ball on Netflix. Afterwards, seeing some of the people that are also bronies (it blew her frickin mind that Dusty was a brony) and why we like the show, she became accepting of it. Now, all of my closest friends and my direct family (parents and siblings) know I'm a brony, treat me no different, and will even let me share some of the brony stuff I find that I love like music.
      Hope you get there some day, partner!

    You mentioned the two main arguments for people being creeped out by bronies: the "manly" and "adult" social norms.
    But there's also another very prevalent reason for rejecting bronies: "They keep throwing their pony shit at our faces", sometimes based on experience, sometimes on that being a common saying.

    • @MyILoveMinecraft
      @MyILoveMinecraft 9 років тому +1

      I think the main reason why they act different towards us is, because Bronies act like retards. Fact. I was at galacon. What would you think than a 30 years old sweaty neckbeard wants to hug you. Normal.
      And often Bronies feel bullied because they are Bronys. I'm a Brony. Nobody ever insulted me because of that or acted weird (or weirded than usual.) it's often a excuse because they are already getting bullied and they search for allies (most of the time the exact opposite happens)
      These are the true reasons. Society is over the things you mentioned.

    • @noob_jr_2sjrkc
      @noob_jr_2sjrkc 9 років тому +2

      never go full Pony Oh, I certainly still see plenty of people saying they don't get why grown men would like a little girl's show. It depends on where you go, but society is most definetely not over these social norms.
      And just because you don't get bullied or insulted for watching MLP doesn't mean others don't. People live in very different areas with different kinds of company. Sometimes their families are homophobes and think liking MLP is a sign of being gay. Sometimes kids do get bullied for having a Rainbow Dash backpack.
      These are already unstable situations without MLP in the mix, but throwing it in makes you a much easier target and people can be rightfully scared of revealing they like the show. I don't think it's fair to say they're looking for an excuse, and it's not wrong to seek comfort in a group if you're being bullied either.

    • @MyILoveMinecraft
      @MyILoveMinecraft 9 років тому +2

      ***** I thought that first too... But then i went to the galacon... Gosh you see from space why these why some get bullied... I dont want to attack the victims here, but when youre the typical neckbeard and/or have really big problems to behave normally (or even interact normal with other humans) i can see why they make themselves a easy target... And at the end they blame it on mlp

Even if the show ends, I will still keep an eye on the fandom's works and remember the powerful message you guys showed.

    Can't believe I'm watching this documentary for the first time in 2016!! (almost 2017). It has just represented the whole idea of the show's trajectory in a great perspective.What does it mean besides its comercial goal. I've been following the show since 2013 and even when I don't consider myself so fond of MLP as these guys are, I have really learned a lot about myself and others through watching it. I live in a small country where the brony community is not as big and united as in the U.S. But still, the time when I got to meet them and joined the brony fandom was one of the most enlightening moments in my life. In terms of being open minded, to put prejudices aside for learning about others. The brony fandom is certainly one of those wonderful human phenomenons that shows how that life can simply teach us lessons in ANY WAY POSSIBLE!. Thanks to the internet, now we can stick together and leave a mark for a change in the world's history.
    Great job Saberspark! Keep on it!.

This is because of the Internet. the internet will be around for a long time, and the Brony community started out on the internet, so communications between Bronies, the sharing of artwork (stories, art, music etc.), and the episodes will be archived there, for all to enjoy in the future. the Internet is one of the advantages fandoms have today that older fandoms don't have, since Internet communications are so strong. Also newer, fan made content will most likely continue to stream in.

    One day, the fandom will die down. But, it will not be gone nor forgotten. Where Trekkies had introduced elements of what current day fandoms emulate, the Brony phenomenon will do the same. I will not be surprised if those in the fandom to this date find some other fandom they can identify with and create the amazing fan works we have seen for that fandom. Bronies have already changed fandoms, but more importantly they have changed themselves. People who were skeptical about liking a show with a heavy young female standard quickly or slowly came around to understanding that you can like things without caring what society thinks of you.
    Though my interests will inevitably change in the future, I am proud to say I will forever be a Brony and will always cherish how it has changed my life for the better.

      What happen to Trekkies fandom? I check on youtube all i can see is on the 90s but i don't see 2014

      They still exist. John De Lancie quite often goes to conventions where these fans still deeply care about what the show was to them. More importantly though is how that fandom impacted the fandoms of today. Cosplay is now a normal thing when you go to conventions because the Trekkies had introduced it.

      SpareBrains561 They stopped making new TV shows. The movies are doing well and there's plenty of trek fans out there.

    I know we shouldn't let those news stations get to us but that particular blond haired lady on HLN really stepped out of line and I for one, think someone who was on that channel with her should have kicked her off the discussion.

      The one who said "In a basement" or how ever she phrased it? Yea that was pretty out of line for a "professional". Didn't even give him a chance to reply to the first two.

    Outstanding documentary. I'm not really a MLP "fan" but I do remember the show as a kid and have admired the modern show in passing and am truly fascinated in the fandom, Thanks for your hard work on these videos, I really enjoyed your take on it. (thumbs ups)

    Thank you for addressing the issue of what it means to be a “fan” and how anyone can have an obsession with something whether it be sports, a celebrity or a show. I mean I have seen some people do crazy things for their favorite sport team. I feel people often forget that extreme fans can be found anywhere and not just for “nerd” things.
    Great documentary! You addressed a lot of topics and issues within the MLP and Brony fandom and fandoms as a whole.

    Moral of the story: Everyone is a fan of something. Just because it challenges a particular social norm, doesn't make it any less fun and interesting. Period. Thanks for this documentary, Saberspark. :')
