I love it when I watch a video that really makes me feel as though I've learned something!! Great comparison of a huge selection of products AND great information on various ways to use them. I'll also admit, I did not know that about leather conditioners... As someone who has only had one car with leather interior, which I only owned for 6 months, I've never really looked into the products that much. But now you've made me want leather seats just so that I can look after them 🤣🤣
Glad you liked it mate, I was never that bothered with leather until I sat in one OMG they’re so comfy!!, that was me hooked, on the other hand some of the pleather that’s used in cars reminds me of 1970’s vinyl that stuck to your legs wearing shorts in summer 🤣 We nearly went for the top model of MGZS but the pleather was so nasty we actually WANTED the cloth upholstery 😅
What a cracking video Graeme! So much great information packed in there and a few bits I didn’t know about aswell. Once again top job mate and look forward to the mega test
Just bought a 1 Series with full leather, very informative video on how to clean and protect. Will be getting some of them bamboo pads and cloths at some point
Interesting to see the differences with foam, liquid, brush and pad. Great point about the ‘conditioner’ too it may not technically be the right term but still adding some protection so can only be a good thing. Looking forward to the next part 👍🏼
Thanks Nick, yes it stems from reading countless arguments on Facebook about conditioning and hardly anyone mentions protecting it, waiting on the surfex comments tho 🤣
Great video and thanks! Consise with a good range of similar products to cover all budgets. I have very light grey leather seats which are perforated so use Maguire's GoldClass as unlike many (which are white) it goes on clear and flashes off without leaving any white chalky product in the perforations. When I bought the car Honda CRZ, the original owner had never cleaned the seats so they actually looked light beige! I did a half/half comparison clean and you could really see the difference after two applications.
Thank you , you shouldn’t need any more than a cleaner and a brush unless somehow the leather top coat has failed and the water has left a stain in which case it would need repaired to put it right
A really interesting and informative video Graeme. I paid a lot of money for the leather upgrade in my car so always look after it but its really surprising how some people just dont seem to care. Great video mate, I hate to think how long it took from getting the camera out to completing the video. not even going to think about the cost. Top video👍
Thanks Martin!, you’re the only other guy I know who has leather and treats it well that I’ve seen anyway. I’ve just been buying products here n there to try , and after having more than I’d ever use I thought I’d do a comparison , hard to show differences on camera but it’s all fun anyway 😅
I have the same BMW interior and seats as you in this video. Which product you would recommend for this ? I currently use AG cleaner with Gtechniq Leather guard protection. Thanks - amazing video !!
Thank you for this. I have just acquired a 1993 Jaguar XJ40 with a cream leather seat. The car has been in storage for the last 10 years. What would be your best recommendation for this. Thanks David
Wow David , that sounds a project and a half!!, first you’d need to determine the condition of the leather , any scuffs or abrasions , cracks or tears then the best start is pick a leather cleaner from that 10 you like the look of and I’d advise a brush for cleaning as that’s the most delicate way , horse hair is best
Great video Graeme, I have the exact same “leather” seats as you cleaned in this video except they are cream in a 2018 x4 , there is a few marks / stains on the driver seat , could you pls let me know what you would recommend to firstly remove the marks then protect the leather
Thanks David but without seeing the marks and stains I couldn’t be confident of giving you the correct advice , if you’d like to take some pictures and email them to me gmdetails@outlook.com I’d be happy to take a look an advise what to do with the leather , thanks again 👍
Superb video Graeme, really enjoy watching content where I come away feeling far better informed than when I started. Now if only my car had more leather than just the steering wheel and arm rests😂 impressed by squid ink products tho. Looking forward to your mega test. Keep up the good work sir 👍
Thanks Paul, yes squid ink are doing a lot of things right and taking time over products which is a good sign of quality in a brand , I’d love to try more when I get through some of my other products to try
Hi, if you look at my playlists (Leather Repair Co) , I actually cleaned my black Dakota leather BMW F30 using the Leather Repair LRC1 cleaner exceptionally well, the tip to perfection is using a damp cloth to wipe away the residue from the cleaner instead of a dry microfibre. I was really impressed with the AutoGlym cleaner too for the price it’s amazing but simple down to sheer cleaning power alone , the leather repair company LRC1 is my favourite , you’ll find links to the products in the description of this video
Great video. Could I ask what the difference between these dedicated leather cleaners and a simple APC diluted sufficiently is? Has the latter been demonstrated to have any longterm detrimental effects?
Brilliant question, an APC is such a general product which could possibly be caustic or have a much higher ph level , even diluted they could simply dry out the surface leading to premature cracking or wear, especially using with these thermoplastic scrubber pads. APC’s can be used for wheel cleaning and pre wash degreasers , I certainly wouldn’t want to use one on my leather interior Long term detrimental effects?, drying / cracking / colour loss / clear coat failure are all possible depending on the APC used , I do believe you’re just better off using a dedicated leather cleaner to be safe
Well worth the wait Graeme, it's all well and good using and reviewing a product but actually explaining what and why it does is far more beneficial especially for beginners. I've learned a lot and can't wait for the next instalment 👏👏
I would wholeheartedly recommend the personally id go with Leather Repair Company cleaner & protection cream for nappa leather , it’s designed by one of the worlds leading leather specialists and used by them in their restoration & protection services , it’s superb stuff
@@GMDetails does it leave any stain when dry, meaning that you have to work one section at a time, or you can spray on the whole seat and let it dwell?
@@JuiceBokx I always remove any residue with a damp terry or bamboo fibre cloth so no, once it’s dried it’s perfect, just be careful the antique leather isn’t aniline though as there’s a separate product for cleaning that
Yes mate, older cars you have to take a little more care with the leather due to cracks and wear, some manufacturers used aniline leather while others used pigmented or painted leather, a simple test to see whether it’s aniline or pigmented is to drip a couple of drops of water onto it, if it absorbs straight away it’s likely to be aniline and you’ll need a different product to any I tested in the video, if it beads it’s good to use the leather repair product on it, just don’t scrub with any of the new scrub pads they are not safe on older leather
I think you missed one of the best cleaners in Pol star I use it from 5:1 to 10:1. As for alcantara it’s not actually it’s proper name, it’s micro suede and it’s a form of leather, alcantara is the company that makes it.
As I said at the start this wasn’t the full range of what’s available , I’m not making enough to buy everything but I’ll get some for the cleaning test I’m going to do with them all. Alcantara tho is NOT leather it’s not micro suede but microfibre fabric and can be cleaned using fabric cleaners, but it is made to mimic suede tho 👍
Fantastic video and info in this one. Once again the attention to detail in the camera work is so good. I do wonder how many just crack out the Surfex or other APC and just get it cleaned. Sure enough I'm sure it's looks clean after but iv seen so many dry and cracked leathers that are less than 5 years old.
Thanks Andy . Yes that’s my point entirely , most APC’s are salt based so have a tendency to dry stuff out like you’ve witnessed , this is what gets me with valeters using cheaper chemicals to ‘get the job done cheaply’ it may be a while down the road before it gets noticed but proper products for the job will help prevent damage over a longer period
The only reason I haven’t included wipes is the cost, there is so little actual product in a pack of wipes and not to mention the environmental impact on plastic wipes too, much better avoiding them altogether and using some of these 👌
Fantastic review Graeme. That’s a hell of a lot of effort and I really appreciate you taking the time to perform such a thorough and fair test.
🥰 THANK YOU!! Much appreciated mate it really is 👌
