It's rather ironic that Seath went mad studying the scales of immortality even though he was granted immortality by the Primordial Crystal. It seems he didn't really care about eternal life or the other rewards granted by Gwyn. Seath just wanted to know why he was born different from his kin, why he alone was the mutant outcast. Making things even more ironic, even if he ever did find a way to give himself scales, he'd still be a pariah among what's left of dragonkind due to his betrayal.
+mjuang84 My theory is that he's just a re incarnation of the original Seath that would have been killed in a different world.. The same could be said for Guyra and Kalameet. The flow of time in this universe is distorted, after all.
@@Mayhzon Pretty much; yes. If you look at original concept art for both Dragons they look pretty similar. Kalameet looks almost exactly like Guyra. And Seath? Still had bird feathers on his tail in the trailer for ds1 if memory serves. Also his tail drops the Moonlight Sword.
(My comment is about 03:30 of this video) Seath is 100% (or almost 100%) blind. Epicnamebro has a video showing that if you use that ring that makes your footsteps silent and cast that sorcery that produces sound elsewhere, Seath will go towards the sound. He can't see a thing in that fight... he only attacks you because you're making noises. Also, you can notice that most of Seath's attacks hit in various places... as if he isn't even aiming.
That is very true! He has a lot of AoE and wide sweeping attacks. Who knows what the eye-sight of dragons is like? I know my cats, for example, have trouble seeing things that stand still, but are great at watching moving things, no matter how fast or small. Maybe my cats are actually dinosaurs and I never noticed.
I kind of think that the crystals on his body were perhaps one of his experiments that didn't work, where he tried to replicate his brothers eternal scales using the Primordial Crystal.
I wonder if Seath wanted to create a female Dragon. He is the last of his kind as far as he knows. Even if Dragons are gender-less it is still possible that living among humanoids for thousands of years along with the male title "Duke" and the fact that most people referred to him as male made him assume a male role. He then tried wanted a female partner. Maybe this is the reason why he is so fixated on female humans. Considering Priscilla, maybe she was the result of an union between him and an humanoid or a failed try to produce a female dragon. Perhaps his wish for companions is also the reason why produced the serpentmen, the crystallization technique and why he spread the knowledge of sorcery. He just wanted to have people that are more like him?
+Sla Nahesh Just like the god he is a re incarnation of. The original Seath was a white dragon/fallen angel that loved the High Elves in the Kings field series. *SPOILER* He's also the final boss of Kings field 3, and is such because of similar reasons for why Seath in DS1 is a boss. Went mad with power.
Not sure if this was mentioned in the video, but an interesting point: Seath was born without scales, and therefore mortal. He was mentioned to have been around before the Lord's uprising. This means that Seath's birth itself was a disparity, giving life and death to an immortal race. The point is, was Seath's birth caused by the disparity that led to the souls being found, or was Seath's birth *the cause* of said disparity. Personally, I think the second one is more plausible, since the fire seemingly came out of nowhere.
If Seath's birth caused the first flame (in some way), what caused Seath's birth? Or in general: How do dragons "give birth" to something, when they should have no beginning? To me the "immortality" of dragons is a lie. They obviously can die, but their stone scales extend their lifes. I guess dragons can give birth (lay eggs) and get their stone scales from somewhat or they just grow onto them. But that's a contradiction, because it would mean that there was life and death even before the first flame.
Seph Imaru it's interesting to note that humans seem to be a lesser species in this game, there was something before the first flame, other beings. that's what i think they are trying to say.
Seath is mentioned in the first king's field, the Japanese only one not the American one, as being created by a god, one of three gods that were supposed to watch over the world, two left and the third made Guyra and Seath to take his place but the two dragons fight instead. Lol didn't wait long enough for it!
Just a wierd thought: If Seath was blind, and (very speculatively) Pricillas father, then might Pricillas wierd statement that the painted world is beautiful be (even more speculatively) beacause she actually can't see it?
+Silver Mont Glad to see you replying to your comments on an old video. Anyway I reckon pricilla is seaths and gwyneveres daughter since both Vaati and Plaugeofgripes believe in it. Also I reckon when Gwyn went of to link the fire, Seath took his chance and semi captured gwynevere for his own uh cough cough well pricilla happened after then gwynevere was ashamed and left Anor Londo with Flann. Just guessing there. If you haven't already you should check out PlaugeOfGripes. Also how tall is the chosen undead? And how tall so you think gwynevere is?
I believe that Crossbreed Priscilla is actually an experiment by seath to make the perfect magical potential/ Warrior He combined the Blood of a dragon and the blood of a human/god prehaps he tried to use the child for the immortal scales. but she took after her "father" and had next to no scales. so she was banished for her being deemed a Failure
I like the idea of Gwynevere and Seath producing a child. Even if sex was not involved, Seath could have easily created Priscilla with magic and bits of themselves. She is his daughter, its canon. Or perhaps he just made her in in act of infatuation, using a handmaiden instead. Possibly to impress Gwynevere?
Then isn't it a bit strange that Seath helped Gwen usher in a new age, an age of fire? Did Seath truly despise the dragons that much? Was his jealousy that great? bum bum buuuummmmmm
Thales Nunes Moreira To be honest, there's no basis for that speculation at all. Why would the dragons despise fire just because they live without it? With fire came the darkness. So do they despise darkness as well? Don't think so
crocalu I don't think the dragons care either way. They didn't seem to do much, I'm sure they would have been fine as long as they could continue being everlasting. However, the age of fire could never have happened without the dragons' demise.
"you are blind! you dont have any eyeballs! have you SEEN your ARCHIVES?" .... "well ... no" ... "its enourmous! why you need so many books in the first place, the printing press hasnt even been invented yet, and theres an unlawfully large amount of books and you cant even read them!" :D another good video.
+Diddy Melone Considering what "insight" mean in Bloodborn idea of "sight" could referee simply to this same (I don't think that god like creatures seriously need eyes). It would mean that it lack of understanding and that would also explain his possible obsession about books.
I dont actually that those squidie-things in the dukes archives are mistakes. I think that they are just early tests for what he wanted to create, which I believe is hydras. Yes, seath created the hydras and I'll explain why. The hydras and those weird squidies share a lot of similarities, the most apparent one is that they both shoot water at you. Now hydras have tentacles instead of legs, just like the squidies entire bodies is one big tentacle, with a head in top (their heads doesn't look like a hydrahead, but they were just early tests. Seath also kidnapped humans to create these thing, and I don't see why he wouldn't kidnap giants as well, and use these to create the hydras once he had done enough research on humans. This all means that the hydras are one or most likely several mutated giants, all in one body. Also seaths or creations tend to be around hydras.
Dragons do reproduce since being albino is a mutation, how could he have a mutation without genetics? And it woudnt be that far of a stretch to say his legs look like 2 aditional tails because of the mutation. Dark souls 2 and still cleaning up Seath's "failures".
Dantick09 How does one reconcile this kind of logic AND the comment right at the onset of the game, how before "the advent of Fire, there was no life, no death... only the everlasting dragons and the arch trees"? That makes no real-life sense, either. Dark Souls' story sounds like mythology, not like an account of a fictional world that was intended to be scientifically consistent. Judging by director Miyazaki's own comments, that was entirely intentional.
Hurmeri Not everything has to make sence, especially the monent you accept to cast pryromancies magics and miracles. How do you know how it really was when there was no life? what if it's all a cycle of darkness and fire or the whole thing a fabrication to make Gwyn seem godlike.
"We know for a fact that all of the firekeepers are humans." Isn't the white spider woman (whose name escapes me right now) a fire keeper? And isn't she a giant? She's a daughter of the Witch of Izilith who I think was a giant. So I'm fairly certain that's one firekeeper we know to be non-human.
Did I say human? I think I meant female. All of the firekeepers we know of are female. Fair Lady / Quelaag's sister isn't a human, you're right. The Witch of Izalith and her daughters were probably of the same race as Gwyn and co (giants, demi-gods, whatever they are)
Silver Mont I'll re-watch the video, I may have just misheard you. Nope, exact qoute. "All humans, and all Human Females." An odd mis-speaking presumebly. Despite the niggle, all in all an interesting video. I've been quite enjoying your lore videos. Though not quite quick and straight to the point as VaatiVidya's you do tend to go into a bunch of different possibilities for each character's lore. You don't mind if I link to you in episode seven of my Dark Souls Lets Play? It'll be a while before it comes out (I keep a frankly absurd backlog of videos to upload) but your videos are an interesting alternative to Vaati's.
Uncle SideWays Ah... yeah, I meant females, I must've said "human females" whilst thinking about the Stone Dragon of Ash Lake, and just sort of thrown Quelaag in there (is she even humanoid, with that half-spider body? eesh) And not at all, link away!
Well, if you compare her torso, and her (non demon) sister, the one who teaches you pyromancy stuff, it would be safe to say that they were human sized. That's just my assumption though.
Herp Derp I've always been of the opinion that the Giants do not refer to the races's size but to their power and that Dark Souls's visual sizes don't match up to the size kind of like in WoW where some human enemies would be twice your size despite them being, in lore, human sized. The Chaos Witches are human sized, but they are giants, because they are the direct descendents of the Witch Of Izalith who is one of the lords. Much like the Silver/Black Knights are giants and in service to Lord Gwyn, even the not directly related (and I think all the Wtiches we see in Dark Souls are direct relatives to the original Witch of Izalith) Chaos Witches are giants in service to the With of Izalith.
I really appreciate your earnestness when doing these videos, the etymology from the names is great and listening in on your insights is very much like having a genuinely expressive conversation about the dark souls lore we love so much, thanks for all your effort
Thanks! I do try. I think the best part about Dark Souls is how everyone can how their own interpretation of what things mean and not be wrong in that, because it's a roleplaying game where you almost have to fill in the blanks with your own answers - and those answers can hardly be wrong. I hope the sequel keeps up that trend! That said, I can understand why some people find it frustrating and would rather just have a full and complete story told to them without having to dig around for possible answers.
(a little disclaimer I have not play the game yet but have done research) I have a bit of a theory about Seath that's a bit extreme are just fanfiction but I think it's interesting enough to be considered feel free to correct me if I'm wrong But at the beginning cinematic Seath looked angry with regret maybe he didn't want the dragons to be destroyed entirely sure he wanted revenge but I don't think he wanted the mass genocide of his race maybe or moral reasons or maybe he wanted some for his experiments in immortality regardless of the reasons he was not happy that Gwyn went overboard and destroyed nearly all the dragons so I feel like he screamed out of rage in the beginning cinematic now that doesn't makes sense because he except Gwyn's Lord soul and joined him or maybe he just did it to stay on Gwyn's good side but in reality he wanted revenge so while researching for immortality he was trying to conspire against gwyn in secret he was a clever dragon so maybe he was looking for a subtle way to take Gwyn's throne him what more subtle way then to have someone related to Gwyn and Seath a heir that can have they claim on gwyn's throne that's where Priscilla comes in Gwynevere was the most likely candidate to make a child with Gwyn blood maybe Gwynevere went in willingly or forced but regardless Priscilla was born I have more little details about my theory but I don't want to make this comment longer than it already is feel free to correct any mistakes I made but I figured this would be a interesting food for thought
I actually really like seath. The whole obsessed with knowledge and looking for a way to become immortal just seems so cool to me. Having knowledge is a good thing but too much and you'll end up like seath! XD or oceiros I also like his character :3
Silver Mont haha I'd think that'd be too much for the human brain all at once so you're definitely right also thanks for replying on this four year old video Alex senpai
Apparently Seath was born without scales, but the impression I got from the opening was he ripped his scales off, due to the fact he was crushing on and he's partially bleeding I thought him ripping his scales off was symbolic in how he betrayed the dragons.
I had the impression that the archives already existed, as it is mentioned that Logan went to seek the "Regal Archives" - and the Chosen Undead finds him in the "Duke's Archives". What I draw from this is that the tower on the hill had always been Gwen's library - referred to as the Regal Archives - and was subsequently granted to Seath upon becoming a duke. Seath used the knowledge contained within to learn about the Elder Crystal and its powers, creating crystalline stand-ins for scales - but going mad in the process.
David Hoffnung Yeah, it would make sense that it became known as the Duke's Archives once Seath took it up as his permanent residence. Although also interesting that it's so close to the Crystal Caves, which have the obvious connection to the albino.
Silver Mont I'd hazard a guess that the Crystal Caves weren't there yet when Seath took up residence. Much like the Elder Crystal spread over his body, it might've spread over the natural caverns, turning them to crystal as well.
Mabye this is off-topic, but I've got a question to be sure. Nobody has ever mentioned 'bout the brightness settings of the game. Something among these lines: Adjust brightness until the dragon on the right is completely invisible and the Flame visible.
"Seath shouldn't have a souls to begin with" I'm pretty sure Gwyn granted a piece of his soul to Seath for assissting them during the end of the age of ancients.
I think those crystals growing on seath is his attempt to acquire everlasting scales like normal dragons. Also, his madness might be due to his regret instead of too much knowledge. He killed his entire species! forever alone.
One point to make: technically we do meet a firekeeper who is NOT human. The fair lady, even ignoring the fact that she's half demon, is a daughter of the Witch of Izalith. Now since the modern order of the universe didn't really become arranged until the Witch and company found their Lord Souls, we don't know if the daughters are the Witch's literal offspring, but it's safe to assume they are the same 'godkin' race as the Lords and their other nonhuman followers. The way I see it, all gods and humans are really the same sort of 'humanoid' beings, but alter into different races (human, god) depending upon what type of energy they hold within themselves. Darkness begets humans, and Light begets gods. So, really, any of these humanoids could potentially become firekeepers, but that requires generating a source of infinite humanity. Obviously since humans propagate humanity within themselves and the gods generally find darkness to be quite nasty, nonhuman firekeepers are mostly unheard of, the Fair Lady being an exceptional case.
its likely seethe experimented with the maidens in order to utilize the primordial crystal through the undead curse. big hat makes reference to the fact that seethe is undead in the truest sense, and cannot die, nor be injured, or go hollow. Which makes sense because seethe doesnt have the dark sign, or humanity inherintly, which is the prerequisite for the curse. Also, his lack of scales is the reason for his mortality.
You might include this in your next dragon video, if not What do you think about the hydra and the man eater shells, who I assosiate with Seath, down in Ash Lake? Are Seath's minions there to invade or protect the Everlasting Drago? And where does the Great Magic Barrier fall into the picture?
also, i think he wanted women, because if he got it right he could use that woman to create more dragon test subjects. if he used a man, he probably wouldn't be able to.
The Everlasting Dragon in Ash Lake seems to have a similar anatomy to Seethe, assuming his lower body isn't just buried. The dragons in the opening cinematic, as well, are always in an upright position while grounded (al a Seethe and Ash Lake Guy), and while it's difficult to make out, the flying background dragons in the opening cinematic (the ones Gwyn hurls bolts at) look to have the same weird tentacle-like legs, Which is weird, since Kalameet has the Everlasting Dragons' third eye and is explicitly referred to as a "dragon", not a drake. Perhaps Kalameet and other legged dragons like him were the result of the Everlastings adapting to a new disparity-filled world. The drakes in this scenario being the genetic rejects.
Hi, Alex! Today I was watching a past broadcast on twitch from one guy, he was playing DS2 beta. And he actually was wearing a Golden Wing Shield, wich reminded me your work (you were talking about it on your LP). I didn't see it properly so I might be mistaken. Is it actally yourth? Mb the developers connected to you? , As soon I saw it I just thought about you I swear. Sorry for the weird question and bad eng ^^
Oh! The Golden Wing Shield? I know the one you mean - it's not mine, but it is pretty close lol. Golden Wing is a green/gold kite with an eagle, mine is a black/gold with a phoenix. I called it Shield of Ash, but I expect FROM will re-name it when they put it in. There seems to be a lot of shields in the sequel with flying creatures on, I wonder what that could mean?
That image on the right on 08:45 is got my attention. Because of the Sword Dark Slayer. That's how Artorias Sword is called. While both, the cursed and the uncursed version of the sword you create with Sif's soul are called "Greatsword of Artorias" in the english version of the game. In the german version only the cursed version is called "Artorias Großschwert". But the name of the uncursed sword is "Finstertöter" which means if translated in english "Dark Slayer". While this is completly offtopic I still find this homage amusing. :D
U forgot to add Havel because great magic barrier it says Havel the rock,an old battlefield compatriot of lord Gwyn, was the sworn enemy of seath the scaleless
Joseph McGraw I'm not sure, really. I know that ENB and TerraMantis both did videos on Havel, which I always figured were pretty good, and I was never a huge fan of him. He is def one of the most requested ones I've had, though.
I have one question that well isn't about Seath, in the DLC were the hell is ornstein ? why is he the only one of the 4 knights not present in oolacile
If im not wrong, Gwyn granted sith the archives to research how to get his scales, maybe he found out a way to replicate the scales but they are actually cristals and maybe thats what the cristal knight was looking for a way to find a stronger armor set since the cristal set are very powerfull but very low durability and the other horn guy that sells the armor stuff is either a scavenger that work along sith that sends people looking for sith in hope of stronger armor and at the end just keeps the items and sells them i think this because the first time you encounter it is just before the gaping dragon and he sims perfectibly comfortable sitting outside a room with a very angry dragon
seath I believe went insane because of all the knowledge he knew. it also happened to big hat logan in the game because he wanted to know more knowledge for more powerful sorcery.
If you want to check to see if he's truly blind you could try wearing the slumberingcrest dragon ring when fighting him. I know when fighting Gough in the DLC (if you decide to make him hostile) if you're wearing the ring he won't be able to find you and will go idle until you attack.
I don't think 'he' is a 'male' in the way humans and gods have males. I think all dragons are Asexual, and that 'he' is simply referred to as a male, because it'd sound somewhat awkward to say 'and Seath the Scaleless betrayed its own'. I like to think they can produce eggs with ought the need of a gender.
Here's a question: Is Seath an early DragonBro? The transformation grants no defense bonuses; not granted scales? Extended lifespan, but no immortality making him feel a lifetime of devotion was for naught? Born after the flame of disparity, but before the dragon wars, or perhaps during?
Remember: hand forging. It must have taken Gwyn and his people some time before they were ready for war. The intricate armor of the silver and black knights says they must have had quite a civilization, but only gained supremacy after the wars. From shambling creatures in the dark to an infrastructure capable of producing in mass the armaments needed for war: plenty of time to be born, become a dragonbro, reach dragon maturity, become disillusioned, betray.
Hmm... I'd never considered that before. It is possible of course, but I think it's more likely he was just an anomaly, as far as dragons go. I feel like, if he were once human, there'd be at least something that hints to it in game - possibly in Logan's dialogue. Yet Logan seems to think Seath is this amazing creature, and wishes to become like him - not like the Stone Dragon of Ash Lake (if he even knew about that, which he probably didn't, but you never know!)
Logan speaks highly of Seath, even if his origins were once well known (probably not) much information has been lost over the ages (Vinheim sorcery vs Oolicile, the annals, etc). The timetable makes sense of the Seath being born mortal. But yeah, there isn't much to support the theory either... lol.
So, why did Seath dump a bunch of his experiments in Darkroot Basin, where Kalameet died years before? Was it to guard the secret portal to the past? Are the Hydras guards, created by Seath to stop people reaching the Stone Dragon and freeing Dusk of Oolacile? I think the Golems are strewn about to kill Undead attempting to go back in time.
Jamster Perhaps he just punted them from Duke's and they landed in the forest? Although I think it's kind of on the other side of Anor Londo, if I recall correctly. Below Duke's is like... Blight Town.
Why was Seath's body so serpent like at all? I remember seeing the Ever Lasting Dragon Kalameet (pardon any miss-spelling) having legs... Maybe the Serpents - such as Kaathe - had something to do with Seath's deformity? And what about HOW dragon's were made? Were they always "there" to begin with, or were they, say, born from the earth itself?
But in the opening cinematic, we see Seath's body the same (if not similar) as when we, the Chosen Undead, meet him for the first time (by first, I mean when he wasn't waist deep in crystals). It is possible he warped his body at some point during his pursuit for eternal life (or I as I call it: chasing the Oroboros), but it could not have been before we met him; when at the time when Seath betrayed his kin. I still think he was a result of a birth defect, and even perhaps an ill omen to the dragons - ergo his ostracism - but that would mean dragons biologically reproduce, even though neither word nor mention has been made about it.
Markis2bi4 Well dragons and humans are two different species, and I think the reason Frampt and Kaate can talk because either 1.) Since there "pure" serpents they'er able to manipulate *all* species. 2.) the abyss changed there bodies for the sole reason to spread the abyss. 3.) They learned it and only they, serpents, with there human like face can speak human, giant, and lord And dragons probably speak like all animals, sounds from there face hole.
my guess is if they ever make a prequal to dark souls set during the war with the dragons(dragon souls?) the other dragon from kings field will be the final boss, or at least some sort of counterpart to seath
Durin akaPaladin Seath seems to have created the Moonlight Butterfly, although I'm not sure if he has any connection to Alvina, as she plays quite a "neutral" role for the most part.
Silver Mont I think she may at least know of him, since the moonlit butteryfly is in the same foresty area (kinda). So IDK just speculation that they may have some dealings with eachother. :D (Well of course she does her own thing, she's a cat.)
What is the armor set @ 6:51? I'm going with the majority of the people believing that Priscilla is the creation of Seath The Scaless. This might be going a bit beyond the lore, but I also think Seath experimented with Gwynevere's maidens so they can become "mermaids"... half dragon hybrids that can blend in with the humans.. something of the sort. I think he grew mad with envy towards his own kin because despite being a dragon, he did not have any scales to protect him, thus leaving him vulnerable... mortal in other words.
Seath could be just a wordplay of the word "Seethe" - To boil, or to be agitated. 'He without scales, seethed with jealousy of his sibling dragons.' Seeing as how Seath is the grandfather of sorcery, maybe he devoloped something similar along the lines of 'Homing Soulmass' which allowed him to "see" where other beings are.
That's an interesting theory, about the homing soulmass, but if I recall correctly, it was created by Logan. Then he created the crystal version using "the knowledge" he acquired in the archives - so it seems evident that Seath had a lot of information regarding crystals. It seems to be a form of reinforcement - almost like fusing the soul with crystals, to make it stronger, more durable. And all of this, we can assume he learned by experimenting with the primordial crystal.
Jenova Roth I know that I've talked about him before, haha. Sometimes I forget though, because I've got like... 2 playthroughs and all those lore videos.
During the opening cinematic it says that seath betrayed his own as he crushes a scale, so I was under the impression that he ripped off his own scales to betray his brethren
Seath found out how to be immortal through the primordial crystal. That is also why you can't kill him in the first battle and it is also why you have to destroy the crystal before you can kill him
Does anyone know why crystals seem to be associated with souls and sorcery in dark souls, is it a japanese thing? Final Fantasy sometimes does the same thing, treating souls and crystals like they're synonyms or metaphors for one another (check out FFXIII for some bad datalogs to this effect). Is there some cultural or mythological basis for this or do they do it just because it sounds cool?
Seath's betrayal wasn't just stealing the Crystal though, it was also turning a part of that crystal into the Moonlight Sword, and giving it to King Jean Alfred Forrester, so that he may help slay the last dragons during the war against the dragons. In King's Field 2 (the known as King's Field in America) You play as Alexander, who is a mercenary/knight, hired by Alfred to retrieve the Moonlight Sword that was stolen by Guyra.
General Durandal That's King's Field, though! And the Moonlight Sword shows up in most From Soft games, to be fair. Hell, it even shows up in a game I'm currently recording that nobody has managed to guess, haha
Silver Mont There are more connections between the King's Field games and Dark Souls. That one is just the most obvious. I've played through King's Field 2,3,4 and 5,(and still own them) and each has connections to the lore of Dark Souls. Mmmm, I've played all the Tenchu games, so I know it's not one of them. I'm gonna make 5 guess! Shadow Tower? Otogi? Kuon? Armored Core? Modal Suit Gundam Unicorn?
General Durandal None of them, either! It's a fairly modern game, too. Weird as hell, which is one reason I chose it for a LP because it just has so many "what" moments.
General Durandal I've only heard of one of them! But no, none of them either. You'll find out soon! Well, maybe not. I dunno when I'm even gonna put the LP up, gotta finish recording it first.
Silver Mont The mechs are customizable. one of the weapon types you can equip them with is energy swords, mounted on the arm. The Moonlight sword is in every game in the series, and is the strongest. As an energy sword, it looks quite a bit different, but the blade (when active,) is still translucent blue, like in Demon's/Dark Souls. armoredcore.wikia.com/wiki/MOONLIGHT
Albinos of a specie are no different from the rest except they lack pigment (colour) During the intro to the game, as it said he betrayed the rest of his kind it showed him crushing a dragon scale/scales implying maybe that he removed his own and destroyed them in his resolve to turn his back and seperate him from his breatheren?
"Seath, you betrayed so good, here a castle. Also, you're a duke."
"Excellent."

You mean the Kings Field games?
@@Mayhzon Pretty much; yes. If you look at original concept art for both Dragons they look pretty similar. Kalameet looks almost exactly like Guyra. And Seath? Still had bird feathers on his tail in the trailer for ds1 if memory serves. Also his tail drops the Moonlight Sword.
(My comment is about 03:30 of this video)
Seath is 100% (or almost 100%) blind.
Epicnamebro has a video showing that if you use that ring that makes your footsteps silent and cast that sorcery that produces sound elsewhere, Seath will go towards the sound.

Good God!
Dinossaur cats... their terror is only matched by their cuteness.
I'll have to try that next time. Maybe that'll make getting Seath's tail less annoying.
+Sla Nahesh Just like the god he is a re incarnation of. The original Seath was a white dragon/fallen angel that loved the High Elves in the Kings field series. *SPOILER*
He's also the final boss of Kings field 3, and is such because of similar reasons for why Seath in DS1 is a boss. Went mad with power.
Patrick Big Priscilla is the child of gwynevere and seath
I always saw Seath's name as being inspired by "seethe". After all, he was "seething" with jealousy, which was why he betrayed his kin.
Makes sense to me.
Silver Mont Seath's name was in those other games long before dark souls came out.
WintersunForever
DId you watch the video? He says it right there.
COPING AND SEATHING
Not sure if this was mentioned in the video, but an interesting point:
Seath was born without scales, and therefore mortal.
Adding on to his name, 'Seth' is a Hebrew name meaning 'placed, appointed'. Works well with his lore. +Silver Mont
Shinji The Baka damn that fits so good.
Sidhe= magic being
Seth= appointent
Seath= the appointed Duke inventor of magic sorcery
Scumbag Seath: has affair with best friend's daughter. Turns her handmaidens into twisted abominations.
Alex Goldhill He only fucked Gywmvere
Just a wierd thought: If Seath was blind, and (very speculatively) Pricillas father, then might Pricillas wierd statement that the painted world is beautiful be (even more speculatively) beacause she actually can't see it?
+Sanna Enmark Well, if Dark Souls had facial animations, we'd be able to answer that. But she has the same vacant stare that everybody else has, haha.
You don't inherit blindness through birth... Even if Seath is the parent and even if he's blind, it would have no effect on Priscella.
Lord south There's no reason why it wouldn't.
well how would they even mate either way i mean its a dragon and a woman/godess
I think his work with crystals is his attempt to make an equivalent to dragon scales.
I believe that Crossbreed Priscilla is actually an experiment by seath to make the perfect magical potential/ Warrior
He combined the Blood of a dragon and the blood of a human/god
prehaps he tried to use the child for the immortal scales. but she took after her "father" and had next to no scales. so she was banished for her being deemed a Failure
***** i laughed more than i should have xD
***** I guess so lol
***** oh yes, i am very careful of that. xD
Seath is an albino - albino's are very sensitive to sunlight. Therefore Seath is probably not blind but can only see in darkened areas
A very good point!
Then isn't it a bit strange that Seath helped Gwen usher in a new age, an age of fire? Did Seath truly despise the dragons that much? Was his jealousy that great? bum bum buuuummmmmm
Also, it's safe to assume that Dragons hated fire and therefore light. They were born to live without light or dark.
"well ... no" ... "its enourmous! why you need so many books in the first place, the printing press hasnt even been invented yet, and theres an unlawfully large amount of books and you cant even read them!"
:D another good video.
I don't NEED to read them. I have this! The KINDLE BONFIRE!
get it? I know someone gets it
... I dont get it -.- funny nonetheless
+Diddy Melone
Considering what "insight" mean in Bloodborn idea of "sight" could referee simply to this same (I don't think that god like creatures seriously need eyes). It would mean that it lack of understanding and that would also explain his possible obsession about books.
I gets it :D Get up in that dark sauce
I saw the video and get this is a joke, but realistically Seath can easily get some minion to read for him.
The pictures to these series are always so adorable. I love the little Pisaca pouring tea.
***** Me too!
Seath is also blind. As noted on the description of the channeler items, the channeler's hood has 6 eyes as they served as his vision.
I'm an idiot, I completely missed that part of the video >.
Haha no worries man.
I always thought the clams were trash cans, used to dispose of the skeletons and the statues.
8:45 The everlasting dragon may very well have been intended to have a name, possibly Guyra.
"We know for a fact that all of the firekeepers are humans."
Isn't the white spider woman (whose name escapes me right now) a fire keeper? And isn't she a giant? She's a daughter of the Witch of Izilith who I think was a giant. So I'm fairly certain that's one firekeeper we know to be non-human.
Did I say human? I think I meant female. All of the firekeepers we know of are female. Fair Lady / Quelaag's sister isn't a human, you're right. The Witch of Izalith and her daughters were probably of the same race as Gwyn and co (giants, demi-gods, whatever they are)
Silver Mont
I'll re-watch the video, I may have just misheard you.
Uncle SideWays Ah... yeah, I meant females, I must've said "human females" whilst thinking about the Stone Dragon of Ash Lake, and just sort of thrown Quelaag in there (is she even humanoid, with that half-spider body? eesh)
And not at all, link away!
Well, if you compare her torso, and her (non demon) sister, the one who teaches you pyromancy stuff, it would be safe to say that they were human sized. That's just my assumption though.
Herp Derp
I've always been of the opinion that the Giants do not refer to the races's size but to their power and that Dark Souls's visual sizes don't match up to the size kind of like in WoW where some human enemies would be twice your size despite them being, in lore, human sized.
I really appreciate your earnestness when doing these videos, the etymology from the names is great and listening in on your insights is very much like having a genuinely expressive conversation about the dark souls lore we love so much,
thanks for all your effort
Thanks!
(a little disclaimer I have not play the game yet but have done research)
I have a bit of a theory about Seath that's a bit extreme are just fanfiction
but I think it's interesting enough to be considered feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
But at the beginning cinematic Seath looked angry with regret
maybe he didn't want the dragons to be destroyed entirely sure he wanted revenge
but I don't think he wanted the mass genocide of his race maybe or moral reasons
or maybe he wanted some for his experiments in immortality regardless of the reasons
he was not happy that Gwyn went overboard and destroyed nearly all the dragons
so I feel like he screamed out of rage in the beginning cinematic
now that doesn't makes sense because he except Gwyn's Lord soul and joined him
or maybe he just did it to stay on Gwyn's good side but in reality he wanted revenge
so while researching for immortality he was trying to conspire against gwyn in secret
he was a clever dragon so maybe he was looking for a subtle way to take Gwyn's throne
him what more subtle way then to have someone related to Gwyn and Seath
a heir that can have they claim on gwyn's throne that's where Priscilla comes in
Gwynevere was the most likely candidate to make a child with Gwyn blood
maybe Gwynevere went in willingly or forced but regardless Priscilla was born
I have more little details about my theory but I don't want to make this comment longer than it already is feel free to correct any mistakes I made but I figured
this would be a interesting food for thought
I actually really like seath. The whole obsessed with knowledge and looking for a way to become immortal just seems so cool to me. Having knowledge is a good thing but too much and you'll end up like seath! XD or oceiros I also like his character :3
As they say, if a little knowledge is a dangerous thing; omniscience must be lethal!
I had generally assumed he was crushing the scales of one of the dragons he was sitting on, in a "Dammit, why can't I have these!" hissy-fit.
Silver Mont That could be the case, but I always wondered why he was bleeding.
Wounds from battle, I suppose? He is sitting on what looks like a mountain of destroyed dragons, I believe.
Silver Mont Maybe, its still speculated on if seath fought or not, I hope they come out with more details of the battle in the next game.
Silver Mont Dark Souls - the lore that keeps on giving.
Deep!
Good vid. Seath the Scaleless is one of my favorite bosses!
The art you use is incredible.
"Seath shouldn't have a souls to begin with" I'm pretty sure Gwyn granted a piece of his soul to Seath for assissting them during the end of the age of ancients.
Oh, sorry, I didn't watch the entire video before commenting xD But I do believe he invented sorcery after he recieved his soul
No the fragment that Seath has is from the Dark Soul. The Four Kings have the other piece.
Cj Jc I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I'm pretty sure Gwyn can split his soul into multiple pieces.
I think those crystals growing on seath is his attempt to acquire everlasting scales like normal dragons.
Also, his madness might be due to his regret instead of too much knowledge. He killed his entire species! forever alone.
playing DS 3 listening to all your lore vids!
What armour is that you're using for the most part of the video? The first time you fight Seath to be more specific. Looks badass.
Brass Set, but modded on PC via DSfix to be silver.
He was actually given a portion of Gwyn's lord soul. I love the music for the Seath battle!!!
its likely seethe experimented with the maidens in order to utilize the primordial crystal through the undead curse. big hat makes reference to the fact that seethe is undead in the truest sense, and cannot die, nor be injured, or go hollow. Which makes sense because seethe doesnt have the dark sign, or humanity inherintly, which is the prerequisite for the curse.
Also, his lack of scales is the reason for his mortality.
You might include this in your next dragon video, if not
What do you think about the hydra and the man eater shells, who I assosiate with Seath, down in Ash Lake?
Are Seath's minions there to invade or protect the Everlasting Drago? And where does the Great Magic Barrier fall into the picture?
I like Seath's sad tea party, at the beginning.
now that i think about it, seath sounds like seethe, as in seething hatred, like the seething hatred he had for the dragons which led to the betrayal.
also, i think he wanted women, because if he got it right he could use that woman to create more dragon test subjects. if he used a man, he probably wouldn't be able to.
Also, what's up with the bottom half of his body? It was like that in the intro too, so it's not because of the crystal.
The Everlasting Dragon in Ash Lake seems to have a similar anatomy to Seethe, assuming his lower body isn't just buried. The dragons in the opening cinematic, as well, are always in an upright position while grounded (al a Seethe and Ash Lake Guy), and while it's difficult to make out, the flying background dragons in the opening cinematic (the ones Gwyn hurls bolts at) look to have the same weird tentacle-like legs,
Which is weird, since Kalameet has the Everlasting Dragons' third eye and is explicitly referred to as a "dragon", not a drake. Perhaps Kalameet and other legged dragons like him were the result of the Everlastings adapting to a new disparity-filled world. The drakes in this scenario being the genetic rejects.
3:15 He was starting up the music :P
Eternal Ring's 1st dungeon theme used to make me so nervous and scared when I was younger lol
I noticed you are playing this on the PC. Do you know how I can get another product key?
i like the intro picture^^ seath looks cute to me
:D the thumbnail is amazing!
your art is always awesome :D
I just love the art in the beginning. :3 Does the art-maker have a deviant art profile?
I don't think she uses DeviantArt, but most of her art is up on redbubble
What's the redbubble? :o
Mikko Parkkonen www.redbubble.com/people/natuprunk/collections/227266-dark-souls
Thanks. :D
7:10 "Almost like what happens when you were petrified, or cursed I should say..."
I thought you had mentioned you had not been cursed... *glances*
I've seen it happen to other people, though
Silver Mont You have not been cursed yet to this day? What a beast.
What is the music around 6 minutes? I'm trying to find it and I don't know what it's called!!
Gargoyles boss music!
since you're talking about the dragons, are you going to mention the path of the dragon covenant at all?
Mavka1997 Yeah I've heard that some of the items have interesting names in different localisations. And that's a pretty nifty one.
I'm sorry for asking for such a newby question but, what armour set is that? I have never seen it before.
It's the brass set, modded via DSfix on PC.
ah well that clears it up but that is a nice re-texture and good job on the video I don't usually watch your content and Im thinking of changing that.
i like how your vids inspire thought
No one talks about the dragon genocide…
U forgot to add Havel because great magic barrier it says
Havel the rock,an old battlefield compatriot of lord Gwyn, was the sworn enemy of seath the scaleless
How come you never did a Havel lore video? Or, have you, and have I simply missed it?
Joseph McGraw I'm not sure, really. I know that ENB and TerraMantis both did videos on Havel, which I always figured were pretty good, and I was never a huge fan of him. He is def one of the most requested ones I've had, though.
I have one question that well isn't about Seath, in the DLC were the hell is ornstein ? why is he the only one of the 4 knights not present in oolacile
If im not wrong, Gwyn granted sith the archives to research how to get his scales, maybe he found out a way to replicate the scales but they are actually cristals and maybe thats what the cristal knight was looking for a way to find a stronger armor set since the cristal set are very powerfull but very low durability and the other horn guy that sells the armor stuff is either a scavenger that work along sith that sends people looking for sith in hope of stronger armor and at the end just keeps the items and sells them i think this because the first time you encounter it is just before the gaping dragon and he sims perfectibly comfortable sitting outside a room with a very angry dragon
seath tendra alguna relacion o referencia a su contraparte de kings fields?
seath I believe went insane because of all the knowledge he knew. it also happened to big hat logan in the game because he wanted to know more knowledge for more powerful sorcery.
My question is why does seath have tentacles but the stone/everlasting dragons have legs
Seath is a messed up freak of a dragon, whereas the other dragons are more "normal" in that sense, I think.
Don't forget that there were knights who piloted giant suits of armor who weilded the same moonlight blade, they are called ravens.
What comic is he referencing at 4:53 ??
I can't find it right now, but I think it was one where Seath was blind and having his various minions read to him.
Woo, still love seeing these in my inbox
I'm still wondering what the fire sorceries are. because pyromancy and the fire sorceries are apparently two different things.
If you want to check to see if he's truly blind you could try wearing the slumberingcrest dragon ring when fighting him. I know when fighting Gough in the DLC (if you decide to make him hostile) if you're wearing the ring he won't be able to find you and will go idle until you attack.
I actually tried that in my level 1 playthrough! I equipped the ring the first time you fight him, but he was spamming AoE all the same.
But what I'd like to know is if it was in your general direction or could you run off to the other side of the map without him chasing you
It's funny how if he was born with scales he'd be dead forever instead of becoming a spider.
9:24 omgosh dual wield playthrough?
Aoi Mikan Yup! Jetstream, inspired by Samuel Rodrigues.
Did anyone else notice that you can see the dukes archives from the roof of the church in the undead parish?
In the Opening Cinematic it says: 'And Seath the Scaleless betrayed HIS own.' so he is male
I don't think 'he' is a 'male' in the way humans and gods have males. I think all dragons are Asexual, and that 'he' is simply referred to as a male, because it'd sound somewhat awkward to say 'and Seath the Scaleless betrayed its own'. I like to think they can produce eggs with ought the need of a gender.
fat
The egnimatic Account why, did i triggered you?
The egnimatic Account none of your business lol get lost, get your salt pile somewhere else.
ChaosImperial
Was Seath a giant? Or of Gwyn's race? Or even.... human?
Seath was trying to become immortal by experimenting on himself so he probably warped his body, notice how his creations are also serpent like.
Maybe he's a hybrid. We do know that Seath is very smart and serpents do use words instead of claws, Maybe his intellect made him an outcast.
If that's so, we should have at least him speak at all. I mean, do dragons speak similar to Humans, or is it telepathy?
Markis2bi4 Well dragons and humans are two different species, and I think the reason Frampt and Kaate can talk because either
1.) Since there "pure" serpents they'er able to manipulate *all* species.
2.) the abyss changed there bodies for the sole reason to spread the abyss.
3.) They learned it and only they, serpents, with there human like face can speak human, giant, and lord
And dragons probably speak like all animals, sounds from there face hole.
my guess is if they ever make a prequal to dark souls set during the war with the dragons(dragon souls?) the other dragon from kings field will be the final boss, or at least some sort of counterpart to seath
Seath is also conected to the Moonlight Buttery, and probably has ties with that weird forest cat.
Durin akaPaladin Seath seems to have created the Moonlight Butterfly, although I'm not sure if he has any connection to Alvina, as she plays quite a "neutral" role for the most part.
Silver Mont
I think she may at least know of him, since the moonlit butteryfly is in the same foresty area (kinda). So IDK just speculation that they may have some dealings with eachother. :D
(Well of course she does her own thing, she's a cat.)
XRandomXShinigamiX It was probably the modded Brass Set I used on PC - Brass Set with a texture swap to make it silver coloured.
aah nice, would be stylish to wear that if I could :D
wats the armor you wear at the beginning of the video?
watermelonsaregreen Watermelons The silver stuff? That's the Brass Armour - a re-textured version using DSfix's texture swapping feature.
Seath could be just a wordplay of the word "Seethe" - To boil, or to be agitated.
'He without scales, seethed with jealousy of his sibling dragons.'
Seeing as how Seath is the grandfather of sorcery, maybe he devoloped something similar along the lines of 'Homing Soulmass' which allowed him to "see" where other beings are.
0:06 - "Winter is coming."
maybe he wanted a child? maybe he was collecting humanity similar to neeto for his own ends?
I thought crystals on his body was him trying to have scales but it backfired sort of thing.
could anyone tell me what armor hes using please :)
Can you make a lore video on the gaping dragon
He is my favorite dragon
Jenova Roth It'd be very short! Haha. I think I talked about Gaping a little in the Kalameet lore video, though.
Silver Mont I think you also talked about it in your soul level 1 playthrough
Also I'm still watching your soul level 1 playthrough
Jenova Roth I know that I've talked about him before, haha. Sometimes I forget though, because I've got like... 2 playthroughs and all those lore videos.
Silver Mont
Jenova Roth I've got it covered for you guys..
HE HUNGRY
Love the Pics
During the opening cinematic it says that seath betrayed his own as he crushes a scale, so I was under the impression that he ripped off his own scales to betray his brethren
He probably was the one to test lightning on, that considered
Seath found out how to be immortal through the primordial crystal. That is also why you can't kill him in the first battle and it is also why you have to destroy the crystal before you can kill him
Damn this is a good video
My favourite character is yulia
I also rare ring revival there, I immediately ran away through the fog door after seeing him.
Yeah - the first encounter with Seath is a bit of a "nope" moment.
Every From Software has a Moonlight Sword, like Armored core an Ninja blad, like an easter egg.
Do the firelink shrine fire keeper
Does anyone know why crystals seem to be associated with souls and sorcery in dark souls, is it a japanese thing? Final Fantasy sometimes does the same thing, treating souls and crystals like they're synonyms or metaphors for one another (check out FFXIII for some bad datalogs to this effect). Is there some cultural or mythological basis for this or do they do it just because it sounds cool?
Seath's betrayal wasn't just stealing the Crystal though,
it was also turning a part of that crystal into the Moonlight Sword,
and giving it to King Jean Alfred Forrester,
so that he may help slay the last dragons during the war against the dragons.
In King's Field 2 (the known as King's Field in America)
You play as Alexander, who is a mercenary/knight,
hired by Alfred to retrieve the Moonlight Sword that was stolen by Guyra.
General Durandal That's King's Field, though! And the Moonlight Sword shows up in most From Soft games, to be fair. Hell, it even shows up in a game I'm currently recording that nobody has managed to guess, haha
Silver Mont
There are more connections between the King's Field games and Dark Souls.
That one is just the most obvious.
I've played through King's Field 2,3,4 and 5,(and still own them)
and each has connections to the lore of Dark Souls.
Silver Mont
A weird modern game, will "what" moments... hmm...
The Adventures of Cookie and Cream?
Echo: Night Beyond?
3D Dot Game Heroes?
General Durandal I've only heard of one of them! But no, none of them either. You'll find out soon! Well, maybe not. I dunno when I'm even gonna put the LP up, gotta finish recording it first.
On a side note, the Moonlight sword also appears in From's Armored Core series.
Oh? That's kinda cool! That's a mech series, isn't it? Does one of the robots have a sword-arm or something?
Silver Mont
The mechs are customizable. one of the weapon types you can equip them with is energy swords, mounted on the arm. The Moonlight sword is in every game in the series, and is the strongest. As an energy sword, it looks quite a bit different, but the blade (when active,) is still translucent blue, like in Demon's/Dark Souls.

Josh Fox That's awesome.
macdonald comes from Macfinlay, which my family, McKinley, is also a descendent of. somehow this character is related to me
Albinos of a specie are no different from the rest except they lack pigment (colour) During the intro to the game, as it said he betrayed the rest of his kind it showed him crushing a dragon scale/scales implying maybe that he removed his own and destroyed them in his resolve to turn his back and seperate him from his breatheren?
What was that white armor?
Brass Set.
If you use Hush or the ring of Griggs, Seath will not know where you are. Nice vid, dragons are the hardest to talk i believe
I have tried that trick once and it didn't work. So he is probably partially blind.
sander van der linden He can still feel you trying to stab him... he just doesn't know where you are until you do.
I think he can still see vauge outlines of moving objects. That or he can feel the fibrations you make when you walk.
That definitely works with Gough, not sure about Seath though...
sander van der linden Well it is the same with Gough (as in does not always work) so we can assume he is 100% blind as we know Gough is.
