    Gender reveal parties in Spain:
-the doctor tells the gender to the expecting couple
-the expecting couple says the gender to the parents (soon to be grandparents)
-the parents tell the gender of their grandchild to all the family and neighbours in town in less than an hour
    Less grandiose, much more efective

Fun fact, the blog post that popularised the idea of gender reveals was quite literally just a cake with a layer of pink icing inside.
It was purposefully low-key because the woman had suffered a number of miscarriages beforehand and I think this was the first pregnancy that lasted long enough for them to be able to determine the gender. The reveal was as much celebrating that the pregnancy had lasted as much as the reveal itself.

I personally loved my gender "reveal". My husband and sons had colds, so I found out the gender without them. I brought home pink balloons and surprised them. I then took photos with the pink balloons and two very excited boys holding the ultrasound photos, and sent the photo to family and friends. It was the best!

My niece and her husband had a very nice "gender reveal" party several years ago. No bombs or exploding balloons. Her MIL and SIL knew the gender and created a riddle that had to be solved by opening a series of presents. I don't remember exactly what the gifts were, but it was something like the first present was one item like one "onesie." The second was two items like two booties. The third was three items like 3 pacifiers. The fourth gift was a piece of ivy. And the answer to the riddle? A boy. Why? Because if they ever had a boy he would be named for his great-grandfather(Sr.), his grandfather (Jr.), and his father (III).. He would be "IV."
"IV"= "ivy." Get it? It was great fun.

My brother and SIL did a simple one for their first daughter, but we’re put off what they had come to represent by the time they had their second. The families got together, played some guessing games, they cut a cake, saw it was pink, and everybody cheered. Nobody actually cared if it was a boy or girl; it was just a reason for a party.

Rules for a successful Gender Reveal:
    1) absolutely no fire or explosives
    2) if using balloons DO NOT fill them with helium
    3) if using a popper DO NOT aim at a person and aim it up and not towards the ground
    4) Make sure the person setting up the reveal knows the difference between Male and Female
    5) Remember that gender determined thru a Sonogram is not always 100% accurate.

At around the 7:50 mark -- I felt so sorry for that little girl who seem very afraid of popping a big balloon while her (I'm assuming) parents try to bully her into into it...and when she has an emotional break-down and tosses the pointed dart that was to pop the balloon, she got her hands slapped for it. :(
And...although not shown, I am pretty sure given how the parents treated her for not 'complying' to their demands to do something the girl was obviously afraid of doing...that little girl was probably blamed for the balloon escaping and she got into even more trouble, or even spanked.
Little kids are often afraid of loud popping sounds, and in seeing balloons break. Instead of the treatments she got from those 2 self centered assholes, she should have been given a hug and told she didn't need to expose herself to popping the balloon and the resulting explosion of sound, and the chaos of the balloon coming apart along with anything in it that would have spilled out of it.
I'm 57 and think it's ridiculous to have a gender reveal party...to me it's just another scam to try to get people to bring gifts. It use to be there was a bridal shower, then later a baby shower...now there are all kinds of bullshit 'events' to waste time and other people's money to celebrate the self entitled bridezillas and couples out there who are either getting married and/or having a baby. .

We routinely see weddings that cost more than my first house because it's so important to outdo your sister or best friend, and now we have gender reveal parties that more often than not go wrong, sometimes terribly (massive wildfires anyone?). Is it worth having to replace a car or even a house because you left the planning to someone with no inkling of how lethal some chemical reactions can be? Geez. We waited until birth for babies #3-5. When #4 was born, we thought that the baby would be a girl since we already had three but it was a lovely surprise to find out we had our first boy. I loved not knowing because I wasn’t stressed out about making sure I was buying girl or boy specific items.

I have five heathens and my youngest daughter (7 at the time) REALLY enjoyed being the “baby”… until the 5th came along. Her exact response when we told them it was a boy was “kill it” completely straight faced and dead pan. … she became his best baby helper but they still go head to head for the baby title 🤣🤣🤣

I genuinely don't know when or why gender reveal parties became a thing. Seriously, who cares enough about a baby's gender (especially if it's not their own baby) that they'd want to do/go to one of these things?

A woman who kept having miscarriages created the first gender reveal because it was the furthest she got in a pregnancy and wanted to mark it. Their kid ended up coming out as nonbinary and now the mom of the kid who created the gender reveal speaks out against them, saying they've p much gone too far.

@@coraqu1n772 did the kid come out as nonbinary? I'm just seeing that she enjoys wearing suits and not falling into "norms." That led the mom to realize that placing too much emphasis on gender at an early age can be harmful to children that don't want to "follow the gender 'rules'" and it's just unhealthy at times

The only gender reveal parties I went to are always with close family members, as in people who will actually be involved in the child’s life lol. It’s fun because, well, why not enjoy some exciting news with cake and music? Obviously the more elaborate parties are just too much, especially the ones that litter the planet (or burn it 🤦‍♀️). Otherwise, I think they’re fun and really just an excuse to gather loved ones for a great time :))
