Gender reveal parties, as far as I know, first came about when a woman kept having children but they all miscarried before she even knew what gender they were. So when she finally had a child that made it to the part where they found out what gender it was, she and her husband held a party. It's more of a milestone if anything because so many things can go wrong in pregnancy. I think that some people go way too far with these parties, and some probably use them just for attention, but I can still see it being a good thing. Especially for those who suffer miscarriages

When my brother’s girlfriend was pregnant with their firstborn, they had a small gender reveal party and invited both their family and a few friends. They revealed the gender by simply pulling a party popper, and the rest of the night was super fun.
You really don’t need to set anything on fire, just to let your whole town know you’re having a girl
exactly no need to go over the top, I also think theres a huge misconception that they are only celebrating the fact that its a boy or girl when in reality they are celebrating the coming of a life and new family member not solely the gender itself.

My main thing with gender reveals is it's just so easy to make them eco-friendly. Like, ridiculously easy. You can use flower petals for confetti, selenium and potassium chloride to throw into a campfire and change the flame colors, powdered fruit or tea powder to put in the pinatas and such. It's literally so fucking easy and takes minimal effort. You can get everything you need for any of these at the local grocery store. Yet nobody does it.
It makes me annoyed to see all the waste too :// I love your ideas though! Especially the flame colours ^^
Or get things the baby will need in blue or pink, like pacifiers, onesies, bottles, something that will be used
I remember just pouring colored soda as a reveal the 2nd time I was pregnant. The first pregnancy I just told everyone.

This video actually reminded me of a gender reveal that was actually a good one. It was the one where the reveal didn’t work and the grandma then snatched her wig to reveal a blue one underneath. Made me laugh for a solid few minutes.

If I ever get pregnant, the ONLY thing I’m doing for a gender reveal party is a simple cake. I’m not doing any of that other crazy shit. I don’t know why people feel the need to get so ‘creative’ with it lol

I had a small bee themed gender reveal last month.
There was literally like 15 people there, mainly family and we had a buffet for everyone.
It was nice to just sit and chat with everyone and catch up after covid and such.
It was yellow for a girl, black for a boy and my boyfriend and I just squirted each other with a water gun to reveal the gender.
That’s kinda unique because it’s not the typical blue pink nonsense. And you didn’t start a wildfire. So that’s a plus!

my cousin had a gender reveal for his baby and they had the doctor tell a different family member the gender. unfortunately it was the wrong person to tell because she went around telling other people in our family. it eventually got back to the mom when someone who'd been told congratulated her on her baby girl, not knowing the mom didn't know.

My favorite gender reveal was probably one my cousin did. It was October so he had Jack o lanterns put like fairy lights on a timer to go on when it gets dark. Time comes he’s recording, lights come on blue and he posts it. Like if you want to do a gender reveal that’s great but it really doesn’t have to be huge and flashy. Unique and subtle ideas are so much cooler than confetti, balloons, or powder

it's also worth noting that i believe the creator of gender reveal parties actually regrets making it or wishes it hadn't become so popular, especially given how awful some parties/reactions can be

And granted, I don't really blame them either. I mean, burning down an entire forest or setting off fire works is extremely over exaggerating it. It should just be something simple.
This is a myth they became popular because of early 2000 blogger mums doing it, stop trying to dress it up as some traumatic recovery even when these parties every one of them from the small intimate ones with 15 family members to the stupid large ones the same 4 to 5 people care the rest are there out obligation nothing more
So basically it was just decided one day that gender reveals should be a thing for some random chick having miscarriages in her dead babies' honors, even though millions of other women go through the same thing. That makes it very hard for me to sympathize.

I swear this is the hardest I've laughed this year and it's almost CHRISTMAS
I work at a restaurant and one time, a party set off smoke bombs inside the restaurant for a gender reveal. Then half of the customers there learned it was a boy due to the blue powder on their food lol (and yes we did kick the gender reveal party out for contaminating everyone’s food and getting blue powder up the employees’ noses)
Why in a restaurant of all places? Why couldn't they just eat before or after the reveal?

The family gets together to celebrate the new family member, and then they pop a balloon, or cut a colored cake, and find out a bit more about the new member.
