For me, a hair fail is when your hair doesn't look as you intended it to. Most of those hairstyles looked rather intentional. You might not like it but the owners seem pretty proud of them so why not?

OMG, I'VE MET THE PINEAPPLE HEAD GUY!!!! This pic is from years ago!!! He is a waiter at a very small Chinese restaurant here in Mumbai!! My hubby and I went there for a late night meal and I almost choked on my soda when he came to our table!!!

As a hairstylist I can assure you that we can in fact get insurance. We use ammonia and peroxide.....its not like we deal with asbestos. Our job is a hell of a lot safer than most professions.
Yes, I have been a hairstylist since 1984, and I have insurance. There may be specific limitations that I don't remember, but nothing has been problematic in any way.
Unless you're in the habit of running with scissors.

I saw a "life hack" on how to make your regular jeans look like skinnys. Yes, you know it, the 80's "pegged" jeans.
As long as the pastel/glitter heavy fashion doesn't return, I'm fine. 😅 Oh, and polkadots. What was with the fashion in the 80s and early 90s? My mother still has a picture of me from when I was maybe 6 years old wearing a hideous (yet comfy) pink and green pastel dress with large polkadots. 😆

You can just make out those crocheted sweater vests to the side of that lady... what an amazing style they had. Then again, each decade look ridiculous to the next decade. Some haircuts for now already look sad and ridiculous and they're fashion models.
Reminds me of the musical Hairspray where girls would get in trouble at school for their big hair blocking other students view of the board 😂😂
The girls would put their hair in tin-can sized rollers the night before, sleep with their head hanging off the edge of the bed, and get up an hour early to tease it all out into shape. Then do it all again...every day.

The 70's hairstyles actually started earlier like 50's & 60's and it was called the Beehive down here in Texas. My mom wore it for years.
Also known as "big hair". It was almost mandatory if you lived in Dallas. But Ann Richards rocked it better than anyone. I miss Ann.
I think that one was called bouffant.

I've always loved black clothing but couldn't see why everyone was so insistent about me wearing it and saying that it was my color... until Charlotte popped up on the screen in the black buttondown. Thank you for teaching me that redheads do indeed look epics in black.
I remember watching my grandma tease her hair back in the 70’s. It was so fascinating that she could make it go so high with just a comb & a can of Aqua Net😂 She had a friend that would use a little wig like attachment thingy that was made for if you didn’t have enough hair to make it high. I don’t think the “bee hive” hairstyle will ever come back!
One benefit of the "bee hive": You didn't need a purse. You could hide a wallet, comb, lipstick, tampon, cigs&lighter in that mess. Handy for high school. Downside: Untangling it. You could clog up a toilet with the hair you pulled out. Also the combined Aqua Net use is probably responsible for the depleted ozone.
Seeing those pictures always fascinate me (especially as I have very flat and limp hair), I can't believe it's all hair. Wonder how it all started.
I think the closest we've got to 'bee hive' in our current time was during the Scene era. I remember having big hair was one of the requirements of Scene aesthetics. But it was not as excessive as bee hive.
@@mahogara I'd say Jackie Kennedy made it popular. It's called a bouffant. A bee hive was a bouffant with altitude and at its extreme made the woman top heavy.

Lmfao the “mom gave my brother a haircut” one killed me. 😂. My youngest bro was about 4 and my mom tried “tried” to cut his hair buzz cut style. The only issue was that by the time she was done he looked like a Dalmatian with spots everywhere that were closer to his scalp. So mom went to take a Shower and while she was gone my best friend looks over at me and says hurry fix it I’ll keep an ear out for the water to shut off. So by the time moon got out of the shower I had his hair looking really good. She took all the praise for the haircut for the next few weeks when ppl would say how good his haircut looked. 🙄😐😂
You're sweet to have protected the feelings of your mom & bro. Growing up for me, my mom was "traumatized" by watching her sons get their haircut, so it was my job to buzz my brother's hair twice a year, lol.

Having been born in 1971, I feel that I am unable to rip anyone for bad hair as my 70’s & 80’s contributions were a sight to behold. Naturally curly hair, the 80’s and rock music. I’ll leave that one out there for your imaginations pleasure!! 👩🏼🦱

My mom was the mullet queen. We didn't go to barbers or beauty shops. Mom say us down and went to town. I would ask for layering because my hair was heavy and thick. I would get a mullet everytime. I didn't get my first professional hair cut until I was 16 and paid for it myself.

I had pet rats as a teen. I would have thought that hairdo hilarious and probably pretty cute. Always assuming, he doesn't have a face like a rat, as well 🙃.

That Karen haircut has been around for decades, and the funny thing is WAY , WAY before we started using the name karen I realized that white women with this hairstyle thought they were special and were often rude. And actually thought they were special BECAUSE they "had the balls" to be rude.
I used to call them angry soccer moms before the term Karen became used. I feel bad for people named Karen who don't behave entitled and obnoxious.

I first noticed the haircut several years ago on a trip to Traverse City Michigan. It was everywhere and I called it the “Pam” because everyone that had that haircut seemed to be named Pam.

Never forget my mom cutting my bangs when I was in kindergarten. I moved and it turned out crooked. So, instead of making them shorter (and straight) she “evened them out” by making a triangle like cut out in them. I clearly remember going to look in the mirror afterwards and for the first time thinking, “I am going to get made fun of.” I love my mom dearly, but I’m very glad that she’s not a hair stylist.
I almost made it through the whole video without laughing. The face you made when you saw the man standing beside the guy in the turban is priceless! I died!!! I think I could summon seagulls with the laugh I made.

I've been cutting my own long layered hair since pandemic started. Now I'm too embarrassed to let someone fix it I can see their looks in the mirror as they hold up the crazy layers.
Aww, don't worry about that! You're certainly not the only person who has been cutting their own hair during The Times We Are Living Through Right Now! Heh, the first thing my BF did when restrictions eased was rush out for a haircut. 😄 My kid and I both rock long hair & regularly go a year without cuts, so it's been NBD for us...I did have to relearn how to COLOR hair at home, though.
Anyway...TL;DR - you're not alone & a stylist isn't going to judge you for doing your best! Go get a haircut! (My fav part is the head wash 🥰)
