- A thief stole my bike! After attempting to have my Bike, Keys and Wallet stolen a month ago, I decided I would continue my efforts to better understand how well Apple's AirTag works. This is the follow up video from that initial experiment. Enjoy!

You left your bike unlocked for days and it wasn’t stolen. In my country, my bike would get stolen while I’m riding it.
Same in Edinburgh. Blink and it's gone.
Pff in my school bikes have been stolen while we’re in class by other students lol
Oof
They just pull it out from under you lmao
LOL. Rough place you are in eh.
"Unfortunately my wallet was returned to me"
First World problems
En Latinoamérica dejas tu bicicleta con seguro 20 minutos afuera de tu casa y ya la están vendiendo en una feria.
Lol
If you leave Facebook up for one reason, do it for if you ever lose your wallet, I’d know I’m not just a story teller I’m an actual moron thats had his wallet returned that way.
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
but, mine wont all are not same
Conspiracy: the security guard stole the bike. when you showed up he got scared, and a few days later he took it and dumped it by the garabage
The fact it was dumped seems kind of weird. Maybe the person who stole it (assuming it's not the security guard) saw them looking for the bike and decided to ditch it soon so they wouldn't get caught with it
Yes very weird - that it was just abandoned. You steal a bike to later abandon it?? Either this whole video was orchestrated OR the person who stole it knew it was being tracked and left it there
@@gesualdoortega584 I think AirTags notify any iphones they ping so I guess that's how the thief realized the bike was being tracked.
@@Smoothjaswi it’s partially true. Any airtag will ping any iphone that it doesn’t recognize so you can’t secretly hide one in someone’s car for instance. Along with telling the iphone of its presence it will also make an audible noise so you can find it. It only does this after 2-3 days of being without the owners iphone being around so it isn’t instant but over time yes, the airtag will let you know of its presence
@@Smoothjaswi iPhones will get a notification that says "AirTag is moving with you"
There's instructions on Apple support on what to do if you get this notification
Thanks for the Video! So I recently received an AirTag 4-pack as a gift and immediately put one on my Keyring and one on my Bike. I thought of putting one in my wallet but thought to myself, "I never lose my wallet!" A few days later, I had tempted fate far too much and, sure enough, couldn't find my wallet. I finally found it on the cushion of my chair but thought to myself. An AirTag would have made that a lot easier to find.
After testing some wallets, I found the best quality from one of the websites that I tried.
The wallet is made of good material and is durable. It fits my four cards in the middle with two additional cards on the side and any spare case. It isn't too bulky.
I also tried few wallets but couldn't find a good quality. Where did you get your from?

May I ask where you put your AirTag on the bike and how you mounted it there? I couldn't find a spot on my bike where it is invisible.

or just got himself a new airtag
Or went and picked someone up from the station

No, he was delivering/selling drugs to someone at the station.
@@BigGaines they could’ve left the fake keys in their jacket of something
And once again, super Sparpreis made my German self chuckle.
totally, especially as it was so expensive anyway.
The earlier you buy a Supersparpreis ticket, the less it will cost. When you buy a Sparpreis ticket only two days or so before your journey it will cost nearly as much as a normal ticket (Flexpreis). But if you buy your ticket couple of weeks before the trip it is a lot cheaper. The negative side on Supersparpreis is, that you have „Zugbindung“, that means that you have a specific train which you must use. You cannot use a train an hour earlier or later. Furthermore you can't cancel the trip.
I payed 60€ for a trip from Aachen to Basel SBB and back 3 weeks before traveling and I think that‘s cheap
@@mstrmren very cheap indeed.
Mir ist fast das Handy aus der Hand gefallen, als ich Karlsruhe gehört habe, da wohne ich XD
The guy who took the keys to the train station and walked around a bit was definitely trying to see if he could find a Mercedes and see if it worked
300km away from the original place it was found?
@@KandiMan the flyers were left in their town so they probably assumed the person and car was there too
Good deduction after the flyer drop. They clearly weren't going to give them back
I would like to see some AirTag project where you hand one to a random tourist leaving from the nearest airport, and telling them to give them to another tourist at their destination (and that they should do the same). It could go on quite an interesting journey...
bull
@@hufzte885 why so?
yeah but ngl i dont think people would like to be tracked by a stranger lol
that's called a travel bug in geocaching :D
I think it would be cool to see if it could actually travel around the world..
Maybe car keys were in car next to the aparments where car body degraded the signal but phone still picked it up. Thats why they probably drove around with the keys.
Hm that’s an okay theory but didn’t the airTag report a signal inside a train station? A car wouldn’t be able to go in there

@Charles Vane it got stolen tho
“Unfortunately my wallet was returned to me by a Good Samaritan” is the last thing I expected to hear today
i have a feeling that the security guards may have told whoever stole the bike that he knows he's there so he that's probably why he ditched it
That person handed the keys in at the station but kept the airtag 😂
sure enough 🤣
Or they were looking for their new car.
The guy didn't walk along the track but on the parking deck. That's right under the tracks. Presumably he was looking there for the car that can be opened with the key.

Such a detailed and thought out project, and actually carried through with conclusions. And interesting to watch aswell, great job! Wish there was more channels like this
I'm hooked. Great videos, I love to see that Airtags actually recovered something.
Sounds like the thief caught wind of someone looking for a stolen bike in his gated community earlier and decided to ditch it.

"Unfortunately, my wallet was returned by a good samaritan" I don't know why but the sentence makes me laugh 🤣
I'm wondering if your keys were, not in an apartment, but in one of those parked cars you were standing near?
Your voice is the definition of “captivating”. It’s telling viewers to keep watching, such an incredible gift.
The airtags were probably in a car nearby. That explains the strong connection outside and why they took them for a ride.
That’s what I thot
Yeah he drove someone to the train and then returned back home.
Wouldn't explain why it hadn't moved for so long though
I feel like precision finding is catered to us Americans with our specific building materials. We build houses and a lot of other buildings with mainly wood. I can precision find my airtag all around my house, even through the different floors.

Hey man - really enjoy your videos - well shot and put together; and you’re easy to listen to.
Says a lot about the area you live in when you need to wait 11 days before your bike gets stolen!! In Australia you’d be lucky if it was still there 11 hrs later!!
Anyway thanks for the cool vids - can’t wait to see your follow up on the other airtags - and yeah; have dealt with DHL ‘customer service’ myself in the past.. they work great - as long as you don’t want anything done about your lost item😂
Looking forward to your next video 👍👍
In Mexico it will be stolen in less than 11 minutes 😂
In South Africa it is more like 60 sec
Late reply - but thanks man! Appreciate the kind words :)
I think they drive with the car keys to the metro station to check if a car would unlock
When it says "move" you should actually move to another location as it's triangulating the airtags position using AR for mapping.
This^ I wish apple would made a clear onscreen animation because not only is it for the AR purposes but it’s also because your movement helps build a reference to where the signal is the strongest and moving around helps point each of the antennas for it to reference. I found when testing my airtags in my car (big heavily shielded Volvo wagon) that just swaying left to right 45 degrees each direction a few times it pops up. And also like this video indicates have to be pretty close for it to figure it out. Sometimes the signal can go very far too, other times it only goes a short distance, probably part of the beaconing and power saving, every so often it beacons out a stronger signal trying desperately to connect to something for a few signal bursts. I picked up my keys from deep within my house on the outside a few times, and other times I have to basically open my front door to get a connection. I would put money on it that those keys where actually in a car on the side of the street based on my experience.
@@Getfuqqedfedboy I walked around a few of the cars, near where I was getting a signal - got nothing...
@@Getfuqqedfedboy
How often does it transmit? Every 10 seconds, maybe?
@@MegaLag ah, you didn’t show it in the video and knowing how badly apple needs to put better instructions/animations into precision finding to guide people so possible to miss something and figured maybe common mistake. No worries!
Also did one more test after re-watching your video and out my keys with airtag on it in the center console of my wagon and sure enough it was getting very confused, the signal was weak and when it did lock on it only locked on with error less then 10 feet away and the arrow was wrong! It was pointing to rear of my car then jumped to front.. but boy did it struggle to get a strong enough signal with my airtag and keys in the center console..
@@lumberjackdreamer6267 I would love to scope it, and see myself. I don’t have the hardware like a scope to know for sure but based on what I seen with my airtag and my iPhone 12 Pro Max it seems like maybe somewhat constant low energy signal as connections can be made super fast if your close without obstructions, but seems to be bursts every few seconds because if further back can be a short delay before a connection is established even if by other iPhones not yours.
Defiantly seems to be as well that once a connection is established that its a stronger signal and holds it better and airtag once loses connection doesn’t instantly drop in signal intensity. seems to be a short time where it will keep trying before going back to low energy.
Man you need to make more vids like this and other vids as well your underrated as hell keep up the Good work

I've got an exact same story (not *my* story), except the ending whereby the, ahem, original thief caught, ahem, the original owner stealing it back. It ended very tragically for the original thief, and subsequently for the original owner. Life imprisonment is no joke.

@@MegaLag Where did you get your skills from?
This project reminded me of some things I wanted to do as a kid which were sending/finding a message in a bottle from the ocean and sending letters attached to balloons to see where the balloon landed when it died.
This now makes me wonder if you put one of these tags on a balloon or in a bottle you drop into the ocean.. can you track them and will they ever be found? 🤣 The thought of a tag in a bottle in the ocean randomly getting ping'd or popping up on land in a year's time out of no where is hilarious to me. 🤣
These project experiment videos are very fun to watch! Thanks for sharing! ❤
thanks for video. I recently purchased an ebike and live in a condo at hawaii. We park out bikes under a specified bike rack location under a roof but no doors. Was debating whether to purchase an airtag but this made me want one. Thank you
Wow, you have spent so much money on these videos. You deserve better, I bet you are the only person that is actually sending air tags to different places as experiments. I wish you the best of luck!
This is the best airtag test on UA-cam
Thanks for showing how difficult it can be to use these air tags to find stolen property.
*A huge problem with the AirTag is it alerts the thief that someone is pinging the tag. This is how the bike rider knew you were looking for him. Remove the speakers from the AirTag and you can catch a Thief in action. Also, the person can check his iPhone, and it would tell him that that AirTag is being tracked! So, much for the AirTag being that useful. @@central7417 She roams free inside our home, she never goes outside unless she escapes. She has an AirTag because she falls asleep very soundly and it’s easier to find her inside the house, as well as for the rare occasion when she escapes.
@@andrewsantos2927 I think the previous commenter was just worried about the cat’s safety. It is very dangerous for deaf cats to be outside because they cannot hear predators or vehicles. Sadly, deaf cats are very unlikely to survive outside.
@@andrewsantos2927 Not in a cage. But just inside. And it's not because it's deaf. I think that of any cat. And do you think the best option is to let the cat roam and kill a lot of wildlife like birds, squirrels, bunnies, and many other things? Also, cats can be mean. I know people who have been attacked by cats. Why do you think it's okay for a non native domestic cat to go do whatever it wants? Also, it's probably not safe. Cats are often snatched by coyotes.

It's probably worth remembering that Apple does not really suggest that Airtag is for finding stolen items, more casually lost things. I have 2 airtags, one for my keys and one for testing… my area doesn’t have a high number of iOS users, it’s also fairly rural area. I parked my second car somewhere random in a parking lot near a main road and hid an airtag inside. I found between too rural/low density of iOS users and being inside the car means only get very rare update. I had a friend move the car, he doesn’t have an iPhone/iOS devices so only updates would been from random people with latest iOS update and sure enough randomly got location updates… so not entirely useless even in this area which has sparse iOS users, it’s not ideal but could defiantly aid in recovering property.
I also had him take my car with airtag on a vacation trip, my beach house which is in a wealthier class area so lot more potential of iOS users. Sure enough on the route I was getting plenty of random updates of location, enough that could defiantly track him good enough not as good or as regular as “find my friends” but good enough that I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. probably cars nearby and as he approached the beach house area location updates got a lot more common and accurate! To the point where I could guessed his exact parking spot!
