BMW Earthquake SWS 8 E90 E92 Underseat Subwoofer Upgrade Install How To. Very good shallow mount sub. These are not plug and play and you will have to cut the factory wiring harness! I know everyone is always looking to upgrade the under seat subwoofers in all the Bmw platforms, well here’s a install of the earthquake sws-8’s in my e90, they sound a lot better than stock and I definitely recommend them! Also a lot cheaper than those Bavsound subs! So my factory Logic7 subwoofer blew that’s under the seat in my Bmw e90 so I decided to upgrade to the Earthquake sws-8xi (2ohm version). There’s been a lot of controversy on running either the 2ohm or 4ohm version but mine is running fine, and from a bunch of research the factory logic 7 amp is stable at 2ohms so it’s all good.

update on the speakers do they still work well? the oem ones keep blowing on me now my passenger side doesn’t work.
Excellent tutorial. The documentation that comes with these subs is useless.
I installed these subs on my 2008 328xi with zero problems. All the instructions were good
However, I didn't remove any foam and I put back the protective grille things as they didn't interfere with anything. Everything sounds perfect.

Will these work in the f82 m4 Harmon kardon system at 2 ohm? How have they been performing?
These fit perfectly on a BMW 535i M-Sport F10 model. The subwoofer well is deep enough to put the grill on and not hit them at higher volume bass! Huge difference and clean bass! Bass sound very good playing 80s jams. The point is these are not plug n play that u have to cut the stock wires made me switch them for a higher quality Plug N Play subs such as the German made Audio System x200 Evo Plus running at full 175w RMS bass power each sub. Material and quality and the amazing bass is unmatched! Yes cost a lot more but worth it at these will last a long time compare to the cheap Earthquakes subs. Im using the Bavsound Revenant amp which already has a custom sound tuned for high quality speakers. The Revenant amp is the exact same amp as the German made Match UP 7BMW DSP amp! Sounds amazing!

Nice job. I'm not sure I could live with having no cover over the subs though. It would drive me nuts. Up until yesterday I didn't realise I had a pair of subs under the seats. Hopefully I can upgrade the 4 door speakers and the subs at some point. The factory head unit/idrive does a good enough job and with decent speakers will be more than loud enough.
Not having the grille there isn’t a big deal. I would try them out if you want a good upgrade

Thanks for the video. One suggestion to consider, maybe make a thick wooden bracket and screw the grill on top. It will give it enough room to move and save your woofer from debris.

I've tested those SWS woofers and Bavsound - what you really need to understand is that SWS is SUB woofer playing frequencies below 200hZ, but there should be mid bass under seat which plays 20-1500hZ, so if you put SWS - your bass will be muddy and missing low details, I've been running SWS for 2 months, then replaced with Bavsound, after 3 years of usage one of Bavsound basses started to crack, I overloaded it a bit so it went down, I have a nice cheaper 8" midbass from Ali now, but Bavsound is a solid option if you ready to pay
What amp and adapter for amp did you use??

Still running good with the stock logic 7 amp? Looking to get this sws 8xi but also lost due to forums being 50/50 on 2ohm subs not good for the stock 4ohm amp.
I’ve also found that there’s a sws 8x which is 4ohm. What’s the difference between the 8xi and 8x for an e90 besides the ohm difference?

My subwoofer has 4 wires wich I think are the door speaker’s wires, how can I install this sub and make the door speakers work? Anyone?

Mine has another amp to it with the SWS and it bumps loud. Sounds a little muddled so looking at new door speakers.
Also, have you thought about the Match subs that can handle more power and have a rubber surround? im thinkin i need even more bass

I did the same thing in my 2013 328i AND my 2018 M2. In both cars I have a Kicker Key 500.1 pushing them. I just use the sub output of my KENWOOD 905s and split the input on set of RCA’s the the Kicker Key and the other set going into JL Audio XD 1000.1 which is pushing 2 10” JL Audio W3’s in a JL BassWedge box. In both cars I’ve replaced all speakers with CT sounds Meso 6.5” speakers and replaced the 1” drivers with infinity Kappa tweeters. Front and rear stages of both vehicles have 2x Kicjker Key 200.4 amps. One for each stage. System is bi-amped. It sounds amazing! The Earthquakes really do add a WHOLE LOT OF Body to the front end. My advice to you is get yourself a roll of speedwire and bypass that factory amp and put some power to your system. If you roadkill the trunk and doors, you will be blown away!
how is you sub doing cuz I just bought the 2ohm on accident and don’t feel like returning it if it won’t blow my system (factory spec)

You can put standoffs under the grill and longer screws to protect it somewhat...
Good idea
The reason the factory ones would be 4 ohm will be for frequency response and accurate reproduction of sound, that is the trade off for having less power. Lower ohm’s will let you drive them harder but they will be less accurate and peak more in certain ranges, fine if you want a one note wonder but less ideal if you want a more full audio experience overall.
What if you were to run 8 ohm subs in series with these 2 ohm subs? Would that be possible? Or am I misunderstanding how it works.
Hey I have a few questions? I just noticed I have the subwoofer grills under the driver and passenger seats but no bass coming out of them. This is also true for the tweeters( I can see there’s a tweeter grill but no sound) could it be there’s wires for me to run subs? Or do subs only come for in bmws with a sound package?
You may have the upgraded sound system turned off in your audio menu, or you just don’t have the upgraded system. I’m not sure if the base audio has subs are not but I’m pretty sure they don’t.

Individual audio might have 8ohm subwoofers.. Check it with impedance meter. Or did you replace them already

I have a 2007 328xi and I think my subs are blown because the bass in the car sounds terrible all other speakers on the doors work fine but when the bass hits it sounds scratchy as hell I’m guessing I have to replace just the subs and not the amp?
Little bit of a rant but just wanna know if I have to replace the amp and the subs or just the subs since I don’t even feel anything coming from the subs

you should stick some fine mesh over the sub stick it to the carpet it will stop crap getting in there

FYI, on e9× M chasis with high option audio(yellowish door speakers) the amp does not like the 2ohm. It will clip, and make for a terrible sound. The factory speaker is a 6ohm, and replacing with a 4 ohm is the safer route.
That was for the m models. In 09 the high was logic 7 im pretty sure. They later switched to HK.

Wonder if I could put some plastic spacers on some longer screws so the cover will go back on and leave room for the movement and maybe some tape all around it to keep it sealed from cap getting in there 🤔

I was really excited to install these in my e92 328i until I found out my car does not have the right 2 wire plug in the sub its a 4 wire, if anyone understands which wires to cut and splice would really Iike this to work if not I understand.

Thanks for the great video. I’m debating where do I put mine. Under the drivers seat, passenger or in my boot (trunk). Will I be annoyed that it’s just on the one side of the car if put it under 1 seat . In the boot (trunk) it’s at least in the middle of the car, but then at a cost of its further away so will it not be as good / fit fit purpose?

@@theprodistini2590 I wouldnt. reroute the wire to the subs to a 300 watt RMS amp then back to so those subs to get 150watt rms each. Way louder bass and still cheaper than those unimpressive overpriced bavsound subs.

I’ve had those, then I got Bavsound ones after, they sound better than stock but nothing compared to the bav sound. You get what you pay for.
I re-routed the wire to the subs to a 300 watt RMS amp then back to so those subs and they are at 150watt rms each. way cheaper than BAV and is much louder!

dav part I don’t think it’ll work with the base audio system. I don’t think there’s even subs under the seat for the base system therefore there would be no wires to power them.
i have base audio aswell, they do in fact work without the logic 7 system.

Those foam surrounds will not last long. Better if it was made of butyl rubber like the Morel BMW underseat 8”.

At the time there was no option for any type of spacers. You also don’t need the grille, it’s really not a big deal.

Maybe this is a dumb comment. But I think you installed it positioned incorrectly... the moving part should face down as the e90 frame is designed to act like the enclosed box for the sub.
I guess you can use the box the other way around, but the manual pictures it facing inward the box.

@@Bruce_T actually, no. You can face a sub in or out, and there are pros and cons to both. In fact the original sub under the seat faces into the box.
For the earthquake sub, the documentation that comes with it shows the sub installed facing inward for 2 out of the 3 possibilities...
@@ellusbrother I think our interpretations of what side the subwoofers face is, are different. What I meant was, the diaphragm to be facing out and the coil to be facing inwards, inside the enclosure of the factory box.
Yes, some are designed so that they operate both ways, but for this specifc installation, it's better that he install it facing out so that he gets the best out of his enclosure.
For dedicated enclosures, sure why not.

One big dislike is from me: they do not really mean, that i will cut any wires, because this is a specific sub for a BMW? Have a look to the competitors, plg n play. the price is ok, for this cheap foam seam ring, but it will never last that long, as a rubber seam. thats for sure. sound will be ok, but this toy does never 3 inches. maybe 1.5 which means 38mm. So sound can be ok, but build quality to use it for years is not good enough at this price point.
rolliseventeen Cutting simple speaker wires shouldn’t be a big deal for someone taking this project on themselves. If it is, then that someone should let a professional do it. Competitors cost twice the amount for the same exact thing. So as far as price point and quality, these are it. Earthquake is a very known brand and has been around for 30 years and you shouldn’t judge a speaker because of a foam or rubber surround. There’s very powerful and expensive subwoofers on the market that use foam so I’m not sure where you got that from. There really isn’t much you can do with a 8 inch shallow sub and this is the best you’re going to get in my opinion.:)
1. you can use an wire adapter and not have to cut the adapter
2. You can use your own rubber and create a seal...
3. they go about 2 inches in full drive movement.
im doin this and using a 500 watt amp to drive off it its own so the factory amp can work on mids and highs.
all said and done with buying quality wires, amp, loc will cost me $800 and i get to keep my trunk room, looks stock, and ill feel the bass under my seat as well as hear it.
So how is this a cheap build???
Taybrenn do you have a wright up of everything you did? And how you installed it? How did you make it so the stock Amp just powers the regular speakers and a aftermarket powered the under seat woofers
2ohm subwoofer does not sound better than a 4ohm subwoofer. Louder, for sure, but quality and frequency response are worse.

No grill? In a floor mounted speaker? No thanks.
You can put rubber washers on the screws which raises the grille a bit so the grille fits. It’s really not that dramatic. Plus it doesn’t even get dirty under there.
Cutting connectors off the harnesses and not using a grill? No thanks.
John Pulizotto it’s really not that big of a deal if you even have a slight clue of what you’re doing. If cutting wires makes you nervous you shouldn’t be DIY’ing.
@@TOMAHAWK813 it's not about cutting wires. It's about ruining your stock parts and protentional damage to the sub without a cover. Bottom line is it's not plug and play.

@@NonStopGaming15 I like my cars 100% stock. However I have installed plug and play audio in some of my cars. I went with the Bavsound ghost subs. If you like to improve performance with aftermarket parts or install wheels that light up then of course it's worth it. To each their own.
