If you can see it from the front wait till you see it from the back.
Absolute wrong way to run the cable from the trunk lid into the car. DO NOT CUT the boot/grommet. You definitely can get the Yellow video RCA connector through, I did on mine and it was no big deal. I even did it after already pulling an extra video and power cable through it, meaning I had less room than you would if you were just pulling the video wire through. The trick is to pop both ends of the boot off, slide a narrow, but rigid item through it so it holds it straight(I used a long allen wrench, but something like a kabob stick would work, get creative). Then tape the wire onto the end of the stick with electrical tape, squirt some sort of lubricant into the top of the boot so it trickles down(I used WD40, you can use a little soapy water) and just pull it through, it's easy.
Yea, your right. With what I had it didnt seem like it was going to work out that way. I didnt want to risk damaging any of the other wiring either.
Good to hear you were able to get it through though. So far no leaks from mine.
Thanks for this - finally found someone who cleared up whether to tap into the reverse lights. I could not get mine to work that way and your video confirmed for me that I hadn't done something wrong, just that that method doesn't work. I connected the power wire to the head unit and all is good now. Thanks!
GAH DAMN BOI I love me a good back up camera installation vid. I LOVE THIS VIDEO
I DIDN'T SEE YOU TAP INTO THE REVERSE POSITIVE AND I DIDN'T SEE YOU GROUND IT
He didnt but he should have done it this way
Yea it’s pretty easy the brown wire in the back is the ground so tap in to that with the red black wire for your ground and for your power you use the wire up front the red wire that connects the av will work as the power so connect the power av by the screen to power then in the back power to av
Thanks for making this video, I finally have my camera working on my android unit in my E92! That helped a lot
Don’t hook it up to your reverse lights… my light bulb blew up.
Glad you made this video. Saved me time trying to figure out why the video wasn't working! 👍🏽
I really appreciate the video . I would have never thought to use the accessory for the 12v connection . I used a trunk lid camera from liebmaya that was basically the same setup.
Which wire color is the one for the reverse light on a bmw 328xi 2007, can you please help?
Should be similar to my setup. Like I said in the video I had issues with power supply and used the accessory power behind my headunit to supply the camera. If your looking to ground, there should be a brown wire coming from the harness behind the light you can tap into. If not I'd try tapping into the trunk as a body ground. That's from my experience
for anyone trying this, don't cut the grommit, cut/re-solder the AV cable, if you use PTFE Lube and a long ziptie its very easy to run the cable in through the factory flexible grommet.
Es necesario desconectar la batería para la instalación de la cámara?
The link is not working from the camera
Thank you for this video! I just picked up a 2011 E90 for my wife and dropped this head unit in it. I've seen a lot of backup cam how-tos but never such a detailed instruction on running the wires.
Regarding this Eonon unit, do you know if its possible to change the steering wheel controls?
been trying to install same camera on my 128i, i tapped into reverse light but signal is so weak and no picture. will try this.
Same here, the camera would come on and then shut itself off as if power was cutting. Lucky I had the extra 12v source behind the head unit. Goodluck!
To prevent hitting the curb when parking parallel, try selecting the left side mirror with the mirror select (where you can adjust pan and tilt). shifting into reverse gear should now make the passenger side mirror tilt down automatically as long as it is in reverse. it will tilt up once a forward/neutral/park gear is selected.
should work on all bmw with electric side mirrors.
you can also tap into the obd port with your obd tool / app of choice and adjust the amount auf tilt to adjust for… I don‘t know… lowered cars. 😎
Has anyone got this camera setup work on a E90/2 6MT without PDC? If so what did you use for your power trigger from the stock cic system? i have everything but that and i really dont want to retrofit a pdc module just to have the reverse signal on the can-bus... I have a CIC with RVC adapter emulator installed and it needs to be AT or 6MT with PDC or CA i believe, i dont have either and i dont want PDC on my E92. All i want is the rear view camera to work that ive already installed and wired up to the dash, for the extra visibility..
Even if I have to manually trigger it, which id want to be able to do anyway but you can do that thru CIC if done the stock method.
Wow I never knew there was a keyhole
My E93 doesn't have this. You have to use the handle.
I curbed my wheels
How can I tell that my car has the module built into my head unit.. 2016 F22 with tech package.. Ty
So you tapped the A0581 Red power line behind head unit, what ground did you tap in rear on tail light? What’s the color wire on the tail light? Do I run a power cable from the rear of the trunk to the a0581 connector too? Or just from the short red connector at headunit:
I was hoping to see how you wired the backup detect wire. Instead of using it for that purpose, you used it for 12v ACC. Did you consider having a backup detect? What happens when you put the car in drive after backing up? Does the camera turn off immediately or does it stay one until the car reaches 15 MPG?
Thank you 🙏🏾 I’m gonna install mines when I buy mines so thank you 🙏🏾 for the tutorial & education.
how to seal the rubber, any suggestions please 🙏🏾 because mine i feel like rubber isn't fit enough.
I have a manual and for the life of me cannot figure out how to get my camera to work. This sucks. 😢
Hi i have a question so i bought a rear camera for my bmw x5 with a head unit everything works and fits but i ran into a problem every time i put on gear reverse the camera makes interference with the music i listen on the radio or bluetooth What could be the cause ? Is this supposed to happen when you put on reverse gear
Its been a while since I followed your install, my backup camera now is showing black screen no idea whats going on.
do you have a link for the wiring kit you found on amazon?
in the description it will be the AV cable kit and below that it will be with the camera as well!
@@tylernardone1917 okay I just thought you might give us the link as well because I already looked on Amazon and drew a blank it would be great if you could save us the search
@@darthbarmey6482 ill have to recheck my link. sorry about that. might have been broken
@@tylernardone1917 thank you that would be a great help
@@darthbarmey6482 The link is in the description box under this video.
The reverse light and all the lights on the car are controlled by their modules and the light is controllled with PWM to the light. So yeah its not a steady voltage and not good for trigger unless you used a relay with a slight delay to it basically, i forget the name for it..
Did your handle fit snug in the hole in the trunk? Mine is very loose so it moves side to side but i cant see that i did anything wrong, just china quality perhaps?
Does the link you provided for the camera with cable kit have everything you need or do you still need the other cable kit?
Aye brother pls pls what head unit is that? I dont see that in the Eonon link in your details, I want the knobs!
What’s that little stick thingy with the fingers you used to pass the wire through the dash called? Lol
Hell yeah brother
Thank you for this amazing video 🙏
Hey what color is the wire for the ground that u connected to in the trunk, cant see it
How's the quality of the camera
Hey! great video dude I’m looking forward to getting it fitted I’m doing this at the weekend, but firstly I’m going to use a piggyback fuse to give the head unit constant power as it’s really slow and keeps loosing the time, so I’m wondering if I fit the camera too wouldn’t that always be on also and drain my battery?
Why couldn’t you use the power wire from the backup light?
BMWs and others backup lights do not provide constant power. It sends pulses of power and cameras/relays do not like the pulsed power.
Im still getting no signal screen )’: lol
What type of head unit is that?
Sgo ducks
Are you from Ireland
Since the power is coming from the acc, wouldn't this leave the camera on when the radio is powered?
No, that’s why he left the ground on the tail lamp. Cheers
Great job 👍
Great video, can't wait to see more content on this model
Finally a video that really demonstrates the wiring in depth! Awesome video!
Thank you! I'd recommend trying to push your wiring through the corrugated trunk to lid grommet before cutting like i did but so far no issues with water at all during rainy season and I wash my car often
@@tylernardone1917 I'd think it would be better to just go ahead and cut off the plug of the composite cable (yellow RCA) then push it through the grommet and then reattach the composite plug on the other side. Composite is really easy to work with and it would help retain everything OEM.
Hi mate, Installed my camera, but theres no video display. Just shows the lines and reverse sensor car.. any ideas?
Hey there, sounds like your camera isnt getting good ground or power. Recheck connections and for my instance I wasn't getting enough power which is why I used the 12v supply behind my headunit.
@@tylernardone1917 thanks your reply. The sellers asked me to check the setting in the screen. (Setting, back car, original camera option turn on/off) is this something u had to do u a setting in urs. I will need to check that. On mine it doesnt say no signal. But theres not camera image.
I didnt have to change any settings in my headunit but it is possible for yours if they are asking that. Check all your connections and make sure the signal to the camera is correct as well
@@tylernardone1917 thanks mate appreciate the help. Would I be able test the camera on a 12v drill battery and connect to TV etc. Just to make sure the camera is working 100%
are you able to take this to a mod shop, and just pay them to install it?
I'm sure you could, you headunit would have to have rearview camera capabilities as well
Was ein Knortzer 😉
Do you have to ground it on the tail light or can you do that somewhere else, like the battery?
It just has to touch metal on the car right ?
You definitely could extend that ground wire to the battery but also could try to ground it to the trunk. Be sure to clear any paint from the area you may be trying to use a self tapper. I chose the tail lamp ground since I know its reliable
@@tylernardone1917 that’s excellent thank you, where did you hook in the live feed?
Mines a little different, I am putting an android head unit and back up camera in my 2006 325i
There was already the dedicated video AV coming from the headunit. The 12v was an extra on my harness from the headunit for an accessory but I was gonna just tap into the headunit power wire if I did not have that extra wire.
@@tylernardone1917 this is excellent, I have been planning this for over a year and finally purchased a Eonon GA456B with back up camera, I will try to post some before and after pictures or even a video
@@darthbarmey6482 that's awesome! goodluck!
Wouldn't this make the camera to be always on when tapped into a 12v to the headunit?
Nope, The headunit activates the camera when you put the car in reverse so you wont have to worry about it always being on.
Are you sure about that? The head unit will show the display feed, though the power draw to the camera will be constant won't it?
That's why it should be connected to the reverse lights right? Why couldn't you connect power to the reverse lights?
I have exactly the same setup and I really want to connect mine to the same eonon cable you used, but not if there is a constant draw. Are you sure that the eonon sends the signal to switch the camera power on through the yellow video cable?
@@unitc87 in the video I explain that the power wire I used at the tail lamp wasn't sufficient enough for the camera. runs on a lower voltage. when I switched it to the power up front from the headunit it is a a better more constant battery voltage.
Yes, when you put the car in reverse, reverse signal is sent to the headunit so it will display backup, headunit then sends signal to camera to activate. that is why the camera signal is coming off of the headunit
@@tylernardone1917 great video by the way and thanks for the response.
I'm not thinking that the eonon constantly shows the display on screen, I know it's connected to the car computer, I just don't want the camera power to be always be drawing. When it's connected to the reverse lights the power is cut when not in reverse I think.
It is only a small camera, says 100 milliamps, so I guess it's no problem, just seems wasteful to have the camera always on when I only use it for reversing and nothing else
@@unitc87 Thank you so much! I get what your saying. I had the car sitting for a week recently and no issues. I do daily drive it and I haven't had any battery issues either after this installation.
hello, i have a question, i have an e39 and i installed some aftermarket navigation system or head unit or whatever, and the thing is. i saw that your navigation/head unit turned on when you started the engine, on mine it allways stays on, i can ''close'' it if i hold the power button but im pretty sure it still draws power because in 3 days my battery was empty, it's there a way i can make the head unit get power only when the ignition is on, or like in the position 1/2 and when i put the ignition to 0 everything shuts down including the head unit?
thanks for the video, ill use it to install my rear camera
Sounds like the headunit is being powered from a wire that has a constant 12v rather than switched. I'd double check the power wiring!
Hi i have a question so i bought this rear camera for my bmw x5 e70 everything works and fits but i ran into a problem every time i put on gear reverse the camera makes interference with the radio and also the music that i listen too it makes interference either one when i listen to the radio or bluetooth this happens 🤦♂️ What could be the cause ? What should i do
Your exhaust sound sweet, what is the setup? Great video
Thank you, it's just a stock 328 exhaust though haha
Once again, I HATE this video
I don't know who you are, but you are wrong. This is a good video.
I dont know who either of you are but this John guy is really starting to grind my gears
John Bradley, why are you hating on this video? Is it because you are not capable of doing something like this or did you try an fail?
Either way grow up
You probably drive a Prius lol
I need help i put it on the acc kabel in the front but backside i realy dont know what to do
Hey there, if your front side is good behind the headunit. Red wire to switched 12v and AV cables connected, trunk side should be red wire (on av cable) to camera power and camera (black cable) grounded to vehicle or in my case I used the Brown wire behind tail lamp to ground the camera. Hope this helps!
