Thanks for this - finally found someone who cleared up whether to tap into the reverse lights. I could not get mine to work that way and your video confirmed for me that I hadn't done something wrong, just that that method doesn't work. I connected the power wire to the head unit and all is good now. Thanks!
for anyone trying this, don't cut the grommit, cut/re-solder the AV cable, if you use PTFE Lube and a long ziptie its very easy to run the cable in through the factory flexible grommet.
Thank you! I'd recommend trying to push your wiring through the corrugated trunk to lid grommet before cutting like i did but so far no issues with water at all during rainy season and I wash my car often
@@tylernardone1917 I'd think it would be better to just go ahead and cut off the plug of the composite cable (yellow RCA) then push it through the grommet and then reattach the composite plug on the other side. Composite is really easy to work with and it would help retain everything OEM.
Absolute wrong way to run the cable from the trunk lid into the car. DO NOT CUT the boot/grommet. You definitely can get the Yellow video RCA connector through, I did on mine and it was no big deal. I even did it after already pulling an extra video and power cable through it, meaning I had less room than you would if you were just pulling the video wire through. The trick is to pop both ends of the boot off, slide a narrow, but rigid item through it so it holds it straight(I used a long allen wrench, but something like a kabob stick would work, get creative). Then tape the wire onto the end of the stick with electrical tape, squirt some sort of lubricant into the top of the boot so it trickles down(I used WD40, you can use a little soapy water) and just pull it through, it's easy.
Yea, your right. With what I had it didnt seem like it was going to work out that way. I didnt want to risk damaging any of the other wiring either. Good to hear you were able to get it through though. So far no leaks from mine.
I really appreciate the video . I would have never thought to use the accessory for the 12v connection . I used a trunk lid camera from liebmaya that was basically the same setup.
To prevent hitting the curb when parking parallel, try selecting the left side mirror with the mirror select (where you can adjust pan and tilt). shifting into reverse gear should now make the passenger side mirror tilt down automatically as long as it is in reverse. it will tilt up once a forward/neutral/park gear is selected. should work on all bmw with electric side mirrors. you can also tap into the obd port with your obd tool / app of choice and adjust the amount auf tilt to adjust for… I don‘t know… lowered cars. 😎
The reverse light and all the lights on the car are controlled by their modules and the light is controllled with PWM to the light. So yeah its not a steady voltage and not good for trigger unless you used a relay with a slight delay to it basically, i forget the name for it..
Thank you for this video! I just picked up a 2011 E90 for my wife and dropped this head unit in it. I've seen a lot of backup cam how-tos but never such a detailed instruction on running the wires. Regarding this Eonon unit, do you know if its possible to change the steering wheel controls?
So you tapped the A0581 Red power line behind head unit, what ground did you tap in rear on tail light? What’s the color wire on the tail light? Do I run a power cable from the rear of the trunk to the a0581 connector too? Or just from the short red connector at headunit:
Did your handle fit snug in the hole in the trunk? Mine is very loose so it moves side to side but i cant see that i did anything wrong, just china quality perhaps?

Hi i have a question so i bought a rear camera for my bmw x5 with a head unit everything works and fits but i ran into a problem every time i put on gear reverse the camera makes interference with the music i listen on the radio or bluetooth What could be the cause ? Is this supposed to happen when you put on reverse gear
Should be similar to my setup. Like I said in the video I had issues with power supply and used the accessory power behind my headunit to supply the camera. If your looking to ground, there should be a brown wire coming from the harness behind the light you can tap into. If not I'd try tapping into the trunk as a body ground. That's from my experience
Hey! great video dude I’m looking forward to getting it fitted I’m doing this at the weekend, but firstly I’m going to use a piggyback fuse to give the head unit constant power as it’s really slow and keeps loosing the time, so I’m wondering if I fit the camera too wouldn’t that always be on also and drain my battery?
Yea it’s pretty easy the brown wire in the back is the ground so tap in to that with the red black wire for your ground and for your power you use the wire up front the red wire that connects the av will work as the power so connect the power av by the screen to power then in the back power to av
Has anyone got this camera setup work on a E90/2 6MT without PDC? If so what did you use for your power trigger from the stock cic system? i have everything but that and i really dont want to retrofit a pdc module just to have the reverse signal on the can-bus... I have a CIC with RVC adapter emulator installed and it needs to be AT or 6MT with PDC or CA i believe, i dont have either and i dont want PDC on my E92. All i want is the rear view camera to work that ive already installed and wired up to the dash, for the extra visibility.. Even if I have to manually trigger it, which id want to be able to do anyway but you can do that thru CIC if done the stock method.
Hey there, sounds like your camera isnt getting good ground or power. Recheck connections and for my instance I wasn't getting enough power which is why I used the 12v supply behind my headunit.

hello, i have a question, i have an e39 and i installed some aftermarket navigation system or head unit or whatever, and the thing is. i saw that your navigation/head unit turned on when you started the engine, on mine it allways stays on, i can ''close'' it if i hold the power button but im pretty sure it still draws power because in 3 days my battery was empty, it's there a way i can make the head unit get power only when the ignition is on, or like in the position 1/2 and when i put the ignition to 0 everything shuts down including the head unit? thanks for the video, ill use it to install my rear camera
Are you sure about that? The head unit will show the display feed, though the power draw to the camera will be constant won't it? That's why it should be connected to the reverse lights right? Why couldn't you connect power to the reverse lights? I have exactly the same setup and I really want to connect mine to the same eonon cable you used, but not if there is a constant draw. Are you sure that the eonon sends the signal to switch the camera power on through the yellow video cable?
@@unitc87 in the video I explain that the power wire I used at the tail lamp wasn't sufficient enough for the camera. runs on a lower voltage. when I switched it to the power up front from the headunit it is a a better more constant battery voltage.
