I don't pronounce it Jagwire. BTW, if you play the Tempest 2000 soundtrack CD in the JagCD, you'll get some visual effects that usually don't happen. Also try a CD+G disc. I have Lou Reed's New York and Information Society's 1st CD.
yo gamester love youre videos dude, awesome! i'm a big fan and collector as wel. I have a jaguar with the scart AV cable from Atari. You can connect that cable to the printplate on the back of the system. It has been sold seperately. I really recommand that cable because the graphics and sound are much more improved compared with the normal RF cable. Keep up the good work!
I'm American but I never called it a Jag-"wire", haha. I had a theory as a kid that people who said "Jag-wire" also say "ex-cape" and "nuke-ee-lur". PS I still have my OEM Atari Jaguar AV cables! It's a proprietary serial-to-component cable (like SNES) that plugs in to that port at 4:02, where it says "AV" in raised letters above your index finger.
***** Yeah, I'm with you, but I'm afraid you're mistaken about Antarctica; Arctic is correct, so Antarctic and therefore "Ant-arc-tic-a" are also correct. As a Spanish speaker myself, I give English speakers a pass on Costa Rica, since their error lies in otherwise correctly pronouncing the typical Spanish "o," so it's a kind of good mistake. To begin with, any English dictionary-given pronunciation for Paris, Los Angeles, or Tokyo will demonstrate that "correct" is a relative term for foreign-language names.
Great review, thanks for uploading this video. It was nice seeing the Atari Jaguar CD in action because as you stated they are somewhat rare. Thanks again it was nice to learn about this system.
Hi John. When your arm heals do you think you could do a Atari Jaguar follow up? I'm getting into the system and really like watching you reviews and videos and would love more info! Get well soon!
Yeah I actually do own Pac-Land for the Lynx. It's an interesting game. I'll be sure to show it when I do my upcoming Lynx review. Thanks for watching.
I've never played this console, so thanks for taking time to give all these informations and footage in this review! 3:07 Because you did mention the numkeys like on a ColecoVision controllers... maybe this is a little bit off-topic... but someone did modify an Atari Jaguar controller to play ColecoVision games, and he did like his modified controller.
Great video! A really interesting history behind this machine, even if it has a somewhat lackluster library. There actually is AV out! The official AV cable utilizes one of the open connectors on the back. I got lucky and mine came with the AV cables.
Kind of late, but I found out there is a av/composite output, but you need a special cord for it, and trying to get one without making one is kind of rare.
lol.. just watched this video again randomly and then suddenly your telling me i might quite like this bit... I totally forgot you mentioned me in that vid all those years ago!.. tripped me out.. lol
Hey John, sure some1 has told you but there is a S-Video/Composite cable. It plugs into that open slot. They're pricey on ebay. KUDOS TO YOU FOR HAVING A WORKING CD ADD-ON. Awesome review. Cool history behind this one!
4:19 actually the Jaguar did have AV-out cables- a composite AV cable and also an S-Video cable - but they had to be purchased separately. They hooked into the smaller PCI-like connector on the back of the Jaguar.
I think the CD addons are more of a novelty item for collectors nour day's. Have you ever come across the Jaguar Pro Controller with the extra buttons?
Yes, as kanarialintu mentioned before, AVGN got two Jaguar + CD systems but CDs not worked so it could be nice to see more reviews from AVGN thanks to Your rare hardware :) but that's only our wish. Thanks for video.
Oh I didn't know there was more than one kind of Jaguar controller. I might have to look into it someday when I can finally work on building a jag collection.
He has a working Jaguar CD now, he said as much in the video where he showed his entire collection at that point, that's why in his videos, when you can see the Jaguar, it has the CD attachment on it, like he always has the 32X plugged into the Genesis.
No A/V! You mean no RCA outputs? The Jaguar can output to: RF, Composite, S-Video, VGA and RGB. All you need is the right cable or a little of handy work.
i LOVED AVP and Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar! my cousin got one.. and its still alive and kicking.. even has the CD add on.. and he has something called the Catbox.. it allowed it to be hooked to a VGA monitor.. or at least the Monitor for the Atari ST (which he also has)..
@pdgable Incorrect. The cartridge you mentioned was for extended memory to save games. It was NOT "required!" However, if you wished to save several games, you needed it. The Sega CD had limited memory to save but it did have memory for saving games!
Can someone explain to me something I have two original jaguar controllers( I know there is a six button model) but the cords are different sizes one is really short and the other one is really long.
great music u had there during that visual section of the vid...its funny just to add another name to the mix,, we say "jag u are" love ur console vids as always..
This system does hav an AV out. Its the larger chip board on the back side. Also- it has a reset button, if you hold *, and # on the controller.... it resets. And 9 times outta 10, you never usually use the numeric keypad- its more comparable to a sega controller using A,B,C, and the direction pad.
too bad your VCR suffered from interference back in the day... And the sound quality output by the Atari or the VCR (don't know which) was distorted... Pretty much a case of too bad, since I almost couldn't take watching the gameplay segment with sound on... What was the cause of the aforementioned problems?
Hmmm. I probably would go with the 3DO first since there are more games I enjoy on that than the Jag. You've gotta get Road Rash and Wing Commander III for it too.
DO THE MATH! Cool video man. I wanted one of these really bad back when they came out. But the cost made me not want one. And the fact that there was only one place in the town that had them and they never had the demo console on also made me think twice about wanting one. Those visuals kick ass on the CD player!
Nice video thanks, never saw this machine before. I think if you have the original boxes you should definitely show them. It can be quite Interesting to see the designs, pictures and no doubt humorous wording etc from the time period! :)
@wildboyintraining He reviewed the Jaguar unit but the CD add ons he had didn't work. If you recall the review he sent it to be fixed but Richard couldn't fix it and sent him a Pong console. Which still worked after all these years.
The Jaguar CD was released for only two reasons, the first was to keep their promise that they were going to release the addon, and the other reason was to recoup some of the money lost in developing the addon. It can be considered the Atari counterpart of the N64-DD which was released for the same reasons.
can someone help me...i was given a jaguar got a game for it...powers on fine i can hear the the jaguar playing game but the display is really dark and colourless..im using a scart...should i buy another cable ??
The 2nd fire button and the numkeys on ColecoVision controllers are not the same as the 2nd fire button on Genesis or Sega Master controllers, and the numkeys are not the same configuration as Intellivision... so, the adaptor, as far I know about it, is good only for the direction pad and the 1st fire button.
my friend had this when we were little and i remember how upset he was that he spent so much money on it because there wasnt any games he could find. and the fighting games he had the controller had so many buttons that u could do a finishing move just touching 1 button
It does take SCART cables too. It fits in one of the pieces in the opening in the back. I don't hate the controller either, but I am a fan of big controllers in general. Games are a bit of a mixed bag, but at least it has many exclusives.
You said Sega CD about 3 times! Also, u forgot to mention that there was a cartridge required to save the games with the CD attachment. Cart Jag games save to the cart itself which is pretty cool...
Correct. In 1995, Atari released the Jag CD in order to help the Jaguar compete against the PSX and Saturn. The problem was is that most of the CD-ROM games require both a cartridge and CD to work. Due to the faulty design of it's plug in pins.
I have that Same Jaguar and mine as Av out i think someone may have modded it on to it but it looks professionally done i bought it at a flea market couple years ago
great review on the atari jaguar, even thought it did poorly in the market, can't wait to get my hands on one, they still hold thier value, and very hard to find
It does have an AV out it's that exposed circuit board on the back. Really goes to show the high quality of atari back then instead of leaving a nice finish with a standard composite out no just leave the circuitry exposed 10/10 quality.
Whats Witt he 'No AV cable comments?'. The Jaguar only supports RF, Composite, S-Video, RGB and VGA, so selections are minimal for a 90's console, but you could go out and buy one.
Atair Jaguar power supply question.? I just recently bought a Atari jaguar on ebay, but it was sold as is because there was now cords that came with it, i was planing to buy a official power supply but i want to test it with one i already have i just want to know if its safe to just test the atria jaguar with the power supply i have. this is the specs for the adapter i have IMPUT 120VAC 60Hz 21w OUTPUT 9VDC 1200mA and i think the polarity (+)---(@)--(-)
I think you have the only known working CD unit. Every single one I have found or heard of does not work. As most know, when these things stop working, there is no fix. Congrats.
I love the feature, that the console won't turn on without a game in! I often put a cartridge into my Mega Drive (Genesis), turned it on - but nothing showed up on the screen, while the LED was shining. And it ended up, that i didn't fit the cartridge in correctly...
You have Jaguar CD that actually works? Lucky you. James Rolfe (a.k.a. AVGN) bought TWO Jaguar CD systems at a combined $450 ($250 for the first one, $200 for the second one), and neither of them worked. By the way...how much did your Jaguar CD cost?
Incorrect information in the video. The Atari Jaguar does have A/V out It is the right open curcuit connector on the back (yes pretty ridiculous that there is no plastic covering it, just like there is no dust cover over the cartridge slot). You can get Composite cables, RGB Scart cables for it.
Interesting, did you know that once ATARI sold the jaguar the company that bought it not only did homebrew software but allowed for homebrew hardware as well. They used them as high def cameras, this was of course before digital cameras. I remember my mom had a white one in her private practice.
The days before Upscalers lol. I hope you're recovering well from surgery.
It does have av out you can buy the av cord for the jag on eBay and it works great.
yes i know but i would rarther stick my fist up my arse
I don't pronounce it Jagwire. BTW, if you play the Tempest 2000 soundtrack CD in the JagCD, you'll get some visual effects that usually don't happen. Also try a CD+G disc. I have Lou Reed's New York and Information Society's 1st CD.
Although I hear it sometimes, I think Jag-wire is more of a tier 4 pronunciation in the States ^_^
"But here in the states, we call it the Jagwire"
No, I'm pretty sure you're the only one who calls it that.
Nice history of the jaguar, didn't realize the issues or lack of sales for the CD add-on. Aways enjoy your vids man! Thanks for sharing..
It has av out it is part of the back extenstion and Atari made composite cables for it.
yo gamester love youre videos dude, awesome! i'm a big fan and collector as wel.
I have a jaguar with the scart AV cable from Atari. You can connect that cable to the printplate on the back of the system. It has been sold seperately. I really recommand that cable because the graphics and sound are much more improved compared with the normal RF cable. Keep up the good work!
oops. My mistake, and I'm glad you're listening to catch it. =)
I'm American but I never called it a Jag-"wire", haha. I had a theory as a kid that people who said "Jag-wire" also say "ex-cape" and "nuke-ee-lur".

Yeah. That's exactly what I wrote.
Great review, thanks for uploading this video. It was nice seeing the Atari Jaguar CD in action because as you stated they are somewhat rare. Thanks again it was nice to learn about this system.
Hey thanks for the compliment.
Yes, it is clearly marked AV on the connector on the back where the cable goes.

No I haven't seen them yet. Have you?
Yeah it's a audio cd that I put in the system.
@zamardii12 This video is one of my earlier vids that I did so you're right I do say "uh" too much in this. I've improved since this vid.
Great video! A really interesting history behind this machine, even if it has a somewhat lackluster library.
There actually is AV out! The official AV cable utilizes one of the open connectors on the back. I got lucky and mine came with the AV cables.
You were really fair in this review. You pointed out flaws and really good points on the system and why it was unique. Thank you for the good review.
Nice video. I collect vintage game systems and I have been looking at getting either a Jaguar or a 3DO. which one would you recommend getting first.
Kind of late, but I found out there is a av/composite output, but you need a special cord for it, and trying to get one without making one is kind of rare.
lol.. just watched this video again randomly and then suddenly your telling me i might quite like this bit... I totally forgot you mentioned me in that vid all those years ago!.. tripped me out.. lol
HA!
If you want to save games for the jaguar cd, you need the memory track cartridge, wich now sells for quite a lot.
How do you pronounce jaguar in Canada?
Hey John, sure some1 has told you but there is a S-Video/Composite cable. It plugs into that open slot. They're pricey on ebay. KUDOS TO YOU FOR HAVING A WORKING CD ADD-ON. Awesome review. Cool history behind this one!
5:26 you said sega cd
another awesome review! thanks gamesta!
4:19 actually the Jaguar did have AV-out cables- a composite AV cable and also an S-Video cable - but they had to be purchased separately. They hooked into the smaller PCI-like connector on the back of the Jaguar.

Yes, as kanarialintu mentioned before, AVGN got two Jaguar + CD systems but CDs not worked so it could be nice to see more reviews from AVGN thanks to Your rare hardware :) but that's only our wish. Thanks for video.
You hooked the stereo av cabels to part you "think a moniter hooks to"
They did release an av cable. And plus right into the back. I have one for mine.
I was the only one of my friends that had this, and they all enjoyed playing on it. I loved the Jaguar.
How do you hook this thing up without an AV out? How do I find the right frequency?
if we have homebrew market hasbro why no replicas cd/cart in one system. Lower power smaller modern unit? I would love one.
new gamester-sode! :) I kinda like the cart turn on feature though. Good review!
Oh I didn't know there was more than one kind of Jaguar controller. I might have to look into it someday when I can finally work on building a jag collection.

No A/V! You mean no RCA outputs? The Jaguar can output to: RF, Composite, S-Video, VGA and RGB. All you need is the right cable or a little of handy work.
Thanks for the quick response. I agree wing commander III and road rash look awesome these are the games that actually got me interested in the 3DO.
I wonder how you got the Jaguar CD to work? AVGN never could get his two to work, they kept redscreening on him
i think this is so so and what sanitary device does the jaguar cd look like with a cart in it?
i LOVED AVP and Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar! my cousin got one.. and its still alive and kicking.. even has the CD add on.. and he has something called the Catbox.. it allowed it to be hooked to a VGA monitor.. or at least the Monitor for the Atari ST (which he also has)..
Hes got a jag cd. And it works. He just hasnt made a vid of it, but in the 2011 room tour he shows it.
@pdgable
Incorrect. The cartridge you mentioned was for extended memory to save games. It was NOT "required!" However, if you wished to save several games, you needed it. The Sega CD had limited memory to save but it did have memory for saving games!

Ace video as always Gamester :D
You wouldn't happen to have Pac-Land on the Atari Lynx would you? I'd like to see you do a review on that :)
great music u had there during that visual section of the vid...its funny just to add another name to the mix,, we say "jag u are"

You sure there was never an AV out for this system?? I thought mine had AV cables
Hu Flung Dung it does it ever says a/v on the back of it but it was sold separate.
will you make a review of the sega dreamcast zip drive add-on
Hmmm. I probably would go with the 3DO first since there are more games I enjoy on that than the Jag. You've gotta get Road Rash and Wing Commander III for it too.
Hey Gamster81 , you ever heard about the Atari Specter
DO THE MATH!
Cool video man. I wanted one of these really bad back when they came out. But the cost made me not want one. And the fact that there was only one place in the town that had them and they never had the demo console on also made me think twice about wanting one.
Those visuals kick ass on the CD player!
Yes, it's pretty ridiculous that he did not notice it saying AV at the back of the system where the port\connector is located.
Nice video thanks, never saw this machine before.
I think if you have the original boxes you should definitely show them. It can be quite Interesting to see the designs, pictures and no doubt humorous wording etc from the time period! :)

You said Sega CD about 3 times! Also, u forgot to mention that there was a cartridge required to save the games with the CD attachment. Cart Jag games save to the cart itself which is pretty cool...

@ACluelessKid they got documentary about ATARI?
I have that Same Jaguar and mine as Av out i think someone may have modded it on to it but it looks professionally done i bought it at a flea market couple years ago
I still want one of these to add to my collection!
wha? Atari won a lawsuit against Sony though that money us what kept them going
It even says AV over it on the back, so I'm a bit surprised he did not notice it.
great review on the atari jaguar, even thought it did poorly in the market, can't wait to get my hands on one, they still hold thier value, and very hard to find
another great review!!!!
is there a link where i can get some new jaguar games

Wel thats all very nice, but will it blend?

NP I'm trying to fullfil my request as fast as I can.
Where did you learn to fly?
I have av cables for my jaguar, they just plug onto one of the open ports on the back. It's not like it makes it any better though lol.
Jagwire?
theres an composite and an s-video cable for it and also someone on yt made a av cable yes he MADE it anyway great video man
@tHeWasTeDYouTh
Maybe, but that wasn't what I meant. I meant every documentary that refers to Jaguar, the animal.
Whoa, I didn't know the sales figures were that low for the units.
Incorrect information in the video. The Atari Jaguar does have A/V out It is the right open curcuit connector on the back (yes pretty ridiculous that there is no plastic covering it, just like there is no dust cover over the cartridge slot). You can get Composite cables, RGB Scart cables for it.
