That's a great suggestion. I'll be sure to do that soon. It's actually really easy. There are no converters needed, the Japanese systems play on all US TV's. The only thing you'll need to do is change it to a different channel... in the 100's I believe. Thanks for the sub. =)
Is Fm Towns Marty system games compatible with those of Fm Towns computer absolutely ? In other words, Fm Towns Marty games is identical with those of Fm Towns computer ?
No, FM Towns Marty is identical in compatibility with FM Towns Marty 2. FM Towns computer can include more RAM than 2MB (Marty). That's the reason some games only run in FM Towns (computer) not in Marty (console).
John, did you ever get a controller or games? I was rewatching this due to having an interest in the FM Towns Computer. I really want the computer over the Marty. They look so cool! They are very 90's.
(why did my last attempt not post?) The Marty came out in 1993, not 1991. US site have been getting this wrong for years; English Wikipedia was only recently corrected, when the correct date on the Japanese site was noticed. The FM Towns Marty 1 and 2 are actually both the same inside (both 386), it's just a color change. This is another thing English sites have been getting wrong for years, and some still haven't figured out.
hey champ, awesome videos man... quick question, im trying to find info on how many units were sold. i cant seem to find much info on this console at all. just wondering if you might have any info on that
Due to the fact that the CDTV contained the Motorola 68000 chip it is technically classified as a 16 bit system. Even though the internal data transfers are in 32 bit, but the external bus was limited to 16 bit. the CD 32 could technically be called 24 bit as it used a limited 68EC020 processor that restricted the external data bus to 24 bit. The rest of the system I believe used 32 bit data bus systems though, but I may be wrong on that.
Nice video. Do you know any where I could pick one of these, up. I already have a Neo Geo AES, would it be worth it to pick this system up two. Nice to see it runs off of a AMD CPU, big AMD fan.
Hey +Gamester81 does the Genesis controller actually work for this console? Looking to buy a unit by itself but can never seem to find an official controller, looking for helpful options =)
+Daniel Minaya As is, no. It will not work. The pinout is different. However, there are numerous options out there for Genesis/Mega Drive to MSX-standard (MSX, FM Towns, X68000) adapters.
+Daniel Minaya i tried and doesnt work....dpad and 1 button work fine, but since u need 2 buttons for playing games u basically need an original controller or u are fucked
Yes indeed, the Fujitsu FM Towns Marty was the world's first 32-bit game console, beating the release of Commodore's CD32 by a number of months. The FM Towns / FM Towns Marty custom graphics hardware was also more powerful than the CD32's AGA chipset.
Apparently in Japan they ae considered garbage pretty much. They only cost $25-$50 on Yahoo Japan, unfortunatly they only deal with people in their own country. However I must say that the Splatterhouse port for the FM Towns is pretty much perfect, other than the screen resolution, something wierd happened with that.
wow! I just read that VIEWPOINT is one of the games available for the towns marty. I would love to see it on something other than neo-geo hardware someday!
the belief that the fm towns marty 2 had a 486 cpu is actually false the only differences between the model 1 and the model 2 is that hte model 2 had its shell made in a darker gray color and it had a lower price than the model 1 except for those 2 differences they are identical but anyway great video man love your vids and cant wait for the next one
Ok I'm surprised that no one has said this so I'm just going. You are a game collector, who is obviously quite into his hobby, since you are a North American who owns an FM Towns Marty, and yet you don't know that 386 is pronounced "Three Eighty Six", not as you said it. 386 is the line of CPUs, the 4th iteration of the intel x86 line. It's not a measure of processing power, rather an indicator of the instruction set of the chip. Processing power is measured in MHz or (inaccurately) in MIPS.
Eh, the review is subpar, but this is such a hard system to find information on in the first place. Also you want to get a very rare version of this system "soon", yet you don't own a single game for the system? Get your priorities straight man, otherwise you'll end up with more systems than games and have rare hardware lying around without having any fun on them.
also is not true that genesis controller are compatible...dpad and 1 button is working...but no other buttons work so is not playable :(, and since u need 2 buttons for playing u need a fmtowns controller or u cant play

Thanks for showing us gameplay footage!
Yeah I saw your review and you did a fantastic job. What games do you own for this system?
Hi Gameste81, do you think you could also do reviews for the FM Towns Biff and the FM Towns Doc? Thanks
John, did you ever get a controller or games? I was rewatching this due to having an interest in the FM Towns Computer. I really want the computer over the Marty. They look so cool! They are very 90's.
Very awesome. I have always wanted to play with one of those consoles.
What's towns os
do you have a cdtv if so i would love to see a review on it same with the c64gs and gx4000 if you have those also
Yeah I've heard of it, but I've never seen one for sale. It's really rare and really really expensive.
That's the nice thing; that the voltage will work without a converter.
(why did my last attempt not post?)

The original Fm Towns was marketed as a computer and it looks like one too. The FM Towns Marty was marketed as a console.
Unfortunately I don't own Splatterhouse. It goes for over $150, so maybe some day I'll pick it up.
Have you ever seen the Aiwa Gamecube?
Nice old time video John. How u feeling big guy. How's the ticker been treating yeah

Because along so many other systems they all used the same connector which is wired almost the same in all of them.
$699?, jeez. Thanks for filling my request!
what about voltage?

hey, it also works backwards
idk, I think the Commodore CDTV was before this, but maybe it was 16 bit not 32 like the AmigaCD32
You should do a video explaining playing Japanese systems in America like what you need or don't need.

i remember the mascot was a detective looking alligator
Sega Genesis cotroller work probably with any game console with this controler port
ooh, good thing to know.
oops I meant Aiwa mega cd
@EpsilonEagle123 splatterhouse 1? and truxton 2?!?!? that sounds awesome! I am about to click your name to see if you got a video of some of that.

Same A.V. cord as the Genesis 1 too
There is one on ebay right now,but it is $700
I hate these videos were he just goes on about the history with all the wikipedia facts.
i just wanna know what the system does and looks like.
WHERE THE HELL DO YOU GET THESE WEIRD SYSTEMS!?!?! HAHAHA! Great video!
Lol! It was back in the day when it came out.
bartoman2 the CDTV was 16 bit

"have rare hardware lying around without having any fun on them. " which is what he probably has
sorry, i erroneously one-starred this video. i didn't do it intentionally, terribly sorry.
@FedorovAvtomat Shopping Mall Japan dot com
is that something what Panasonic,Comoddore Amiga,Phillips,Samsung and NGage try to ba famous, and Fujitsu going this bad way
The commodore amiga and c64 were incredibly popular, what the hell are you smoking
@@Zontar82 im talking about this system,it˙s similar like this Fujitsu
Seems like this was a busted 3DO spec wise.
busted 3do lol, comparing a system that came later with this one, very smart
really bad review man, you whisper way to much, don't have very much info or opinion on the system, and worst of all you don't even turn it on
I agree
+shocxxxx i belive he doesnt even have a video cable...he just have the console
I think he's recording this video while his family is sleeping lol
I read a bit and the difference from the 2 models are just the colour...power or more ram is fake
+messatsu1981 Correct.
also is not true that genesis controller are compatible...dpad and 1 button is working...but no other buttons work so is not playable :(, and since u need 2 buttons for playing u need a fmtowns controller or u cant play
+messatsu1981 Again, not entirely true. See my previous post above.
not entirely true? i tried master system and megadrive ones and only 1 button work...so why not entirely true???
The explanation is in my earlier post. Please read it.
