The only defense I can give for Han is when talking about the kessel run he never says he did it. He brags about the falcon saying that it is the ship that made the run.
Yes but also he doesn’t crash the coaxium they need to give to vos it the people trying to stop him that make that happen and also a navigational system just plans a route and doesn’t control the mellenuim falcon unless is autopilot why barley happens you can clearly see that he is flying and is in control of the falcons every move L3 just is making a route for everything
Isn’t Han’s driving actually pretty good up to that point at the start though? He pulls some good drifts and manages to navigate a crowded street. Also, he must have some decent knowledge to be able to flip a car he stole the exact same day 90 degrees on command. The only thing that actually stops him is overconfidence, he probably would have made it otherwise.
ALSO DON'T FORGET C3PO SPOKE TO THE MILLENNIUM FALCON! AND I QUOTE "SIR I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOUR SHIP LEARNED TO SPEAK, BUT IT HAS THE MOST PECULIAR DIALECT!" MIND BLOWN!
@@AlexanderScott66 No, it's definitely the droid system implemented into the ship. If if you don't agree with MatPat's theory, it is still solid fact that there is a sentient being inside the Millenium Falcon.
The irony of this theory for me was you saying, "Han is a liar" right in the beginning, and my immediate thought was, "You didn't realize that years ago?"
Howdy so I have just gotten around to finally watching Solo and I have to respectfully disagree with this theory. Normally I don’t comment on these videos agree or disagree but for the sake of discourse I might as well. So, firstly Han wasn’t kicked out of flight school because of his flying ability, he was kicked out specifically for “having a mind of his own” which implies either he disobeyed orders or he tried to specialize his own piloting style. Secondly, in the open minutes on Corellia it is true that Han fails the “thread the needle” maneuver, but he almost makes it and simply miscalculates the width of the alleyway, which says nothing about his piloting ability. Lastly, L3’s consciousness is put into the falcons Navicomputer, meaning she can help the ship to navigate, but she has no actual control over the flying of the ship itself, meaning that Han’s increase of skill is evident as he navigates the Maelstrom. Furthermore, he does some impressive flying to evade the TIE fighters before L3 was ever uploaded into the computer. So, I believe it is safe to say that Han Solo is and will always be the PILOT who made the Kessel run in 12 Parsecs. But hey that’s just a theory, my theory. Thanks for reading.
I'd agree with this. It helps because none of the disney movies are actually worthy of being considered canon except for maybe rouge one. rey knowing how to fly was just a bad writing decision, not a well thought out plot point.
Probably not, the key to his swagger is believing his own hype. Without it, Han's just another sad sack scoundrel scraping together enough credits to live off of on backwater outer rim worlds.
In all fairness, Han probably became general for something fairly small, like, I don't know: _helping to destroy the first Death Star_ . Holdo he is not.
@@Testingthisname I think you have a very limited view point on militaries. Not all militaries have had clear chains of command, and certainly haven't had slow progressive promotion structures like the modern established military. And then there are honorary ranks. For one, the Rebel Alliance, is an Alliance, not an individual military. Maybe he is a general of the Corellian faction and only commands like 8 people. IDK
Han didn’t lie. He tells Obi Wan that “it’s the ship that made the kessel run in 12 parsecs” he never sold himself as the pilot that made the run in 12.
@@yo_itz_hayden2237 When it comes to something like smuggling, there is something to brag about in finding a shorter route to the same destination while still avoiding authorities. It also speaks to the ship, since a faster ship means you could, at least in theory, cut things much closer since you could be gone or nearly gone by the time someone spots you
I mean with L3 in the Falcon, it's just like having a really detailed google maps installed for your car. So maybe it tells you where to go, but you still have to be good at driving to follow the route. Not to mention, maybe the reason why Han's flying got good when he was in the Falcon is that the Falcon is a good ship. I mean most of the time you hear Han bragging more about his ship, calling it the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy". Han isn't a failure of a pilot, he's a great pilot with an even greater ship.
Not gonna lie, Han actually being a mediocre pilot and all of his achievements being due to someone else (a super ai ship) seems perfectly in character to me. At least as far as the films go, I know nothing about the non-movies
Han wouldn't have wanted his newfound (Newfound being right after the events of the Solo movie, I mean.) reputation to be ruined... At least, that's the idea behind this theory, I think.
I always thought Han lied about the Kessle Run just to get more money out of Obi Wan and Luke. Obi Wan even gives him a look of disbelieve as he's bragging about it.
Your theory makes sense and I agree. But is it correct to call him a fraud? It's been a while since I've watched the Original Trilogy, but when I think about Han boasting I can't remember when he boasts about his flying skills. It's usually him bragging about his ship. He says- when trying to sell to Obi-Wan and Luke- that his SHIP made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, not himself. Just a thought. It also gives deeper meaning every time Lando and Han say it's not their fault when the hyperdrive fails. XD
He also has to drop the Hyper fuel because the marauders were pulling on the fuel at the same time heading for the mountain, they both would have crashed into the mountain otherwise
I mean, if you're kicked out of flight school (for any reason), you still aren't learning to fly. Doesn't really matter if he was kicked out for being disobedient or if he was just that bad of a pilot. If they kicked him out, he wasn't learning to fly
@@ghuxsuperfan3066 that is a point, and I understand that he could have learned a thing or two, but the point of him bring kicked out still means he wasnt learning a flying. The reason doesnt really matter all that mich, especially since he crashed the very next time he tried to fly. So while he might have improved, that improvement isnt shown until the AI is inside the (I'm so sorry for my spelling) melenimum falcon, and is only continued to be shown while inside that very same aircraft. Even when no one is in the cockpit or the pilot is different. The theory may be wrong, but it is good enough to hold up (at least in my opinion)
@@ghuxsuperfan3066 well, I can't prove that, but due to the fact the crashed into a mountain instead of turning the very next time he flew, probably points toward him not learning that move in class. His thread the needle move, is super complex to pull off, and since Han isn't excelling in the basics of flight, I think it's safe to assume he didn't learn it in flight school. Like, I suck at basic Spanish, so I'm not going to be taught advanced or honors Spanish. In comparison, Han sucks at basic flying, so it doesn't make sense that he would be taught or that he would excel in complex flight maneuvers.
The expanded universe version was much cooler. He was at the top of his class at pilot academy, but leaves imperial service when he commits insubordination by helping out a wookie slave that was being abused (Chewbacca). Wedge and Hobbie Klivian are also much cooler in the EU. Wedge started out as a smuggler who worked for the Rebellion, while Hobbie defected with Biggs after they mutinied and took over a modified acclamator repurposed to be a fighter carrier.
@@briant7265 Like it or not, the AI in Falcon is mentioned by C-3PO in Empire Strikes Back. The only problem is fans being too stupid to get Han Solo is lying since the begining.
Still, I've gotta say... It was old George's fault for selling out in the first place. He just couldn't let it end in peace. But maybe he wanted it to be this way...? A lot of creators end up regretting certain choices they've made & would rather see the things that they create die than have to appeal to the never-ending demands of fans. I mean, anything's possible.
@@galfinsp7216 4000 - 5000 is his midaclorian count, its what gives sertain people force powers, because they have a stronger connection to the force. Thats why palpatine was interested in anakin in the prequels, he had a midaclorian count of over 20k and its why he is so strong.
Okay MattPat, here is something you missed. Solo didn't get kicked out of the flight academy because of he lacked skill, he got kicked out because he wanted to think for himself (he didn't like being ordered around). So there is that for you.
WHAT! He has to drop the Hyper fuel because the marauders were pulling on the fuel at the same time heading for the mountain, they both would have crashed into the mountain otherwise! "Why doesn't he just turn right," Wow okay.
GoldShot if I remember correctly the ship they are using is used just to move cargo from a star destroyer to the planet. Plus we don’t know how much that fuel and the pure metal hold weights.
gameboyreed4909 No the problem is that the cords couldn’t hold the material and Han wouldn’t be able to get away from Infis Nest while holding it carefully. He really didn’t have a choice in that situation. Plus the ship he’s flying is complicated (just look at all the buttons on the ceiling and front panel) and Rio even says himself “Wow kid you weren’t lying! You’re one hell of a pilot!”
5:30 Han Solo couldn’t pull right because his cables weren’t all secure he only had 2 cables attached and if he were to pull away his cables would have detach
And the falcon didn’t have the capabilities of auto pilot because it’s an old shop meaning L3 couldn’t have been piloting and your forgetting that lando and Leah were experienced pilots as for Rey I’ve disowned the sequels because of how op she is like why does she go to find Luke instead of Leah like she’s only his sister and why does she go there cause she doesn’t need training because she already mastered the force without any training which is stupid
Well I know one episode Spongebob aaid that he had to pay Mr Krabs to work, while in others he is refered to getting a pay check and once Mr Krabs fires him so he can save money. I'm not sure how easy it would be to figure out how much he makes, because the show can be pretry inconsistent.
Well he did come into the Rebellion with a wealth of flight experience and his own ship capable of light speed. Before he even officially joined the Rebellion he rescued Princess Leia, helped get the plans to the Rebel base, and rescued Luke Skywalker so he could destroy the Death Star which means he Luke helped save the universe twice and rescued a very important member of the Rebellion and brought in a ship with light speed capability that he maintained ownership of all in one day. So it would make sense that his starting rank would be pretty high. Then after that he saved Luke from freezing to death and saved Leia from the attack on Hoth, saved from the Star Destroyer with his ingenious move of landing in top of the ship and powering down to hide from their sensors then just disconnecting and drifting away when they resleased their garbage and to top it off brought Lando and lord knows how many more new recruit from the Sky City into the Rebel Alliance which probably earned him a promotion or two...
In Legends he graduated the Imperial Academy and was a Lt. before deserting. His skills in the films came from his training and experience. He held legit military ranks before they gave him a command.
I thought everyone knew he was a con artist, even from watching the original trilogy I thought that was his thing, lying to Jaba lying to Luke and Ben that's why hes famous hes an amazing con artist.
@@fordo5361 he's literally a con artist and a swindler, a charmer, quick thinker, with an ego. He masterfully picks and chooses his words carefully. Don't forget he literally won the Falcon in a card game, a game that he cheated to win.
Other than what Han was doing on the Kesssel Run while the droid was currently dead and lying on a table..... Edit: During the Kessel Run, when they were being pursued by imperial star fighters, The navigation droid had been shot and Han was expertly flying the Millennium Falcon, dodging and destroying several Tie Fighters.
EmeraldThePro12 NoThanksYou other than what Han was doing? Can you possibly edit this to make sense because I don’t think anyone has any clue what you are trying to say
(While I agree with you) that just means that Han's imperial training helped because he knew how they were trained and how they fly. Because he was one.
@@luke3981 If he was dropped from the academy, he'd only know the basics of flying and maybe a tiny bit of Empire techniques. I doubt any more than could be learned from simple observation
Meerkat More its never stated how long he was in the academy and it depends wether he went to a prestigious pilot academy or not and according to canon there isnt one on corellia
So if you live for a long time flying as a pilot and your experience gets uploaded into a ship then the pilot should get credit? It wasn’t made for a just a. Navigational system plugged into a ship l3 was a pilot
GPSs arent sentient, dont have memories and dont learn. Droids in Star Wars however, have been continually shown to have all those attributes *in addition* to personalities.
Amazing... every word in that sentence was wrong... Just like this theory. Seriously I’m convinced this is an unspoken tradition with Matpat... literally all of his Star Wars theories are absolutely wrong and he knows it. Navigation droid =/= piloting cheat-codes 🤦🏾♂️ Han was kicked out for being Han I.e. a smart mouth insubordinate who "had a mind of his own" 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ The ship Han was piloting was completely fine. The fuel is what blew up. 🤦🏾♂️ Also did he really just ignore the fact he was in a tug of war with those speeders? They literally had grapple guns hooked in! 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ Han actually *lost the sabacc game to Lando. 🤦🏾♂️ Ma-Rey Sue is force sensitive and actually has had previous piloting experience. 🤦🏾♂️ 9:43 that was Chewie flying the falcon in TLJ 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ So much wrong in so little time...
I think the original movies were pretty clear that most of what Han was saying was bravado. He was talking himself up as this fantastic pilot, but nobody actually believed him. Han's a decent pilot, but he's no master of the craft.
Han was able to pilot the Millennium Falcon, A freighter through the maelstrom while being pursued by TIE fighters. He held his own for the duration until L3 could be hooked up to the navigation system. Han is a good pilot.
All vehicles are "she", whether it's a classic car, a fishing boat, or a spaceship. It's a long, time-honored tradition when men spent a long time alone doing work with their vehicle as their only companion, so it was donned with a moniker (hence ship names). You also see this in Australia when swagmen (men who would travel across the Outback) named their bedroll pack, leading to the term "Waltzing Mathilda"
Yes, but that doesn’t mean that he was a great, or even competent pilot before that happened. He could have been just scraping by. I hate to say it, but I don’t see anything that contradicts this theory.
MatPat, I can see where you are going with this. But L3-37 was uploaded into the Falcon for the use of her NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM (in simple terms, her map), not "auto-piloting".
PattyFuryGaming And even if that were the case, in Legends he’s one of the greatest pilots ever, not to mention he had also flown greatly before he even knew of L3’s existence.
Okay so he got the description of the movie wrong in the order of events, Rey in force awakens specifically says she’s a pilot, the thread the needle move has not only been done in the millennium falcon (Poe does it in last Jedi while destroying the dreadnought cannons and running from tie fighters), it was also chewy who was piloting on Crait and Rey was the gunner, everybody who has done the thread the needle move has been known at LEAST as a pretty good pilot (lando, Han, chewy, and Rey), Han was also trying to fly away from the mountains but the people on speeder bikes were pulling on the coaxium container pulling Han towards the mountains forcing him to let go of the coaxium, Han was kicked out of flight school because he was a rule breaker not because he was a crappy pilot (it’s a school they wouldn’t kick him completely out they would just make him go back to the basics or something), it also shows Rey and Han controlling the falcon while they were doing the move sometimes. Ok... I THINK I’m done (I feel very strongly about Star Wars and I’m sorry if I make you mad it’s just that Han is one of my fav characters so...).
2:42 He didn't win the Falcon in the first card game. Even though Lando cheated, it wasn't the card game that gained them access to the Falcon for the mission!
You kept saying he wasn’t a good smuggler as well, then never showed any evidence other than the one scene in Solo where he blows up the cargo. In tfa, he hadn’t had the millennium falcon in years, but he had been doing smuggling mission a lot, and that most likely implies that he had to have been a decent pilot.
If he was a good smuggler, he wouldnt be in such troubles with Jabba Hutt and all those people in TFA. He literally dropped cargo just because imperial ship was nearby.
dragonwaz well once you have a bounty on your head from one of the most feared gangster in the galaxy, it's understandable that jobs would be hard to come by out if either fear of angering the Hutt or just not wanting to bother to have the extra risk your runner getting gunned down/caught by a bunch of bounty hunters on top of the already pretty big risks that come with smuggling. I mean although in the movie we only hear that Han jettison the cargo to avoid an Imperial inspection, in Legends we find out that the cargo was partly slaves which Han purposely allowed to escape, kind of cementing the whole "scoundrel with a heart of gold" thing he has going on.
You know... Since Mat already make theory video of Ash's age. Let's kick it up a notch, the Doctor's age in Doctor Who I mean, the amount of episode of Doctor Who is just 3/4 of episode of Pokemon Or maybe, just another theory related to Doctor Who. Doesn't nessecarily his/her age.
Technically since he changed from and personality every time, u could argue hes however old his current form is, since hes basically a new person, asside from the memories of course
His age in the Classic series is well established and coherent, and he says he’s 953 in “Time and the Rani.” We know the Time War lasted 400 years. But the Tenth Doctor says he’s 903. The thing about Doctor Who is there’s so much media besides the show, and the BBC doesn’t have an established “canon”, but in an Eighth Doctor book he said he lost count and started counting again from his regeneration, which fits with the Time War happening and other events. So according to this theory when the Doctor in the modern show says he’s 900 years old, he may be counting from when he started over. But who knows.
Also, what Disney could have put in that Millennium Falcon chase scene is that Tey suddenly comments: “I’ve never flown this thing before, yet it’s responding to me more smoothly than I imagined. It’s almost like the ship is flying *itself.* “
He only dropped the payload because the people on the bikes were attached to it and there would have been no way to get them off it and keep the payload
It's a good theory, but you may be giving L3 too much credit. More likely L3 is the navigation assist program. Like the Paper Clip guy from Microsoft Word. If only slightly more useful.
Really? Didn’t even mention the 200 year old wookie who was probably doing most of the flying, with more experience than any human would be capable? No? Ok.
L337 wasn't at the controls, Han was. He looks at her database on a screen nearby for guidance and calculations. Did you watch the movie? (This is not an insult, just an honest question, by the way.)
Here’s the thing: Rey being able to fly the Falcon is linked to her being a force user. And Lando knows the ship like the back of his hand in RotJ. It was his and he’s a great pilot. L3 didn’t have anything to do with them
Supernatural_Avocado64 I completely agree, although I count the old movies (OT and prequels) and the new movies as separate universes becauae there is such a disconnect so I don't think it's even fair to compaire OT Han and Rey
UnalloyedBoss75 that’s fine, I was just going off of how MatPat said that Rey never flying before and being so good at it was linked to her being strongly connected to the force.
Actually MatPat, *_Han IS the best in the Galaxy._* I also saw Solo so I know that L3-37's memory drives wasn't installed into the Falcon's Navigational System until about halfway through Han's flight through the Kessel Run _and even then_ all those drives did was find a safe path, the dialogue given in the scene makes it *very* clear that Han still had to actually pilot the ship. _In other words,_ L3 can't fly the ship in her current state. And before it was installed he was still piloting, _even pulling off an evasive manoeuvre that killed a friend of his when they tried it,_ through a Cosmic Storm where you couldn't more than ten metres ahead of you, as well as been filled with random asteroids. And later on in *Episode V* when he was running through from the Empire he successfully piloted through an Asteroid Field, while other pilots in smaller ships _crash & burned._ In real-life many sailors fear going through waters known for having Glaciers, cause even if they know to look out for them, they have no clue as to where those Glaciers are at the moment or what direction they're heading, it's a similar thing with asteroid fields, cause even if you can see the asteroids, you have no idea what path they are gong to take as there are just too many factor, for instance, the asteroids might knock each other around, thus constantly changing their course. And yes, he did pull of some pretty good evasive manoeuvres even getting two Star Destroyers to crash into on another, and when they did start heading for the Asteroid Field while performing repairs, they missed one by luck before the Falcon started getting hit by smaller asteroids, which didn't destroy the ship due to the deflector shields been up, which caused Han and Chewie to did the repairs to go back to flying the ship. *Seriously watch the scene again:* ua-cam.com/video/KvJDItC6tE0/v-deo.html Also *Episode VII* shows exactly why he's the best pilot in the Galaxy when he successfully lightspeeds past the First Order's refractor shields , then pulls out of Lightspeed before the Falcon could end up crashing into the planet. Nobody else has that unique combination of Skill & Luck to even have a hope of pull that off As for Rey been able to pilot so well, a prequel comic to *Episode VII* reveals that she's self-taught via using flight simulator programs and the Prequel movies, particularly *Episode I* during the tuning up of Anakin's Pod Racer, reveals Force-Sensitive people are natural pilots who can subconsciously react to things before they even happen Finally, to 100% put your argument to bed. I the canon tv show, *Star Wars Rebels* one of the main characters, Hera Syndulla, is widely recognised in-universe as one of the best pilots in the Galaxy and flies a completely different ship, yet even she needs her droid Chopper or C1-10P for navigational purposes
And this is exactly why The Han Solo Trilogy by Ann C. Crispin will forever remain Han's true canonical backstory to me, no matter what Disney has to say about it.
Navigation isn't exactly the same as flight maneuver. Knowing where to go doesn't make you knowledgeable on what kind of flight pattern will work in deadly spacing (ha, get it?). She has parts from an astromech droid, but those are mainly for repairs and warp navigation with light piloting control much like R2D2. Sorry Matt, this one isn't that serious of a gotcha moment.
While the theory does make some good points, it ignores the fact that Rey is force sensitive and strong with the force so her ability to thread the needle could be due to the fact she has sharper reflexes (as Force users tend to be gifted pilots especially if they are a protagonist, which includes Anakin, Luke, and by extension Rey). Not saying the Falcon's navigator didn't help, but I think there is more to Rey's piloting skills than just having the best navigation computer in the galaxy. Personally I think that Disney just didn't know how to write a good Han Solo movie.
A few things: 1. I think it kind of makes sense that Han Solo was made general since he has infantry experience, and the actual army (not space fleet) is probably quite small comparatively. 2. I find myself agreeing with a lot of commenters saying that you have to be a decent pilot to pull off those maneuvers still. Even an advanced navigational system can't do anything unless you let it. If you have it set to manual, then the pilot is in control. Otherwise, auto pilot would take over. Makes sense to me. Sorry, Matt. Have to disagree with you on this one.
"This movie is supposed to establish to us why Han has such an amazing reputation as a pilot and a smuggler..." No it doesnt. Point of this movie was showing his past and how he got into thing he is in New Hope. Han thinks he is awesome but he is not. Thats why he has so many problems with so many people and why everyone knows he is a smuggler.
SOURAVxC um actually, anakin is the best known pilot in the galaxy. And the high ground best him so by default the high ground is the best pilot in the universe
the movie was "supposed to" show his personality evolving from a trusting guy into a kind of scoundrelly guy. the movie didn't do crap for the series, and hurt han as a character.
I haven't and probably will never see the prequel but the original trilogy is all I need to read this character. He gets by more on reputation than skill. I thought it was obvious that his goofy, oblivious, haphazard way of stumbling through things (but luckily pulling through) WAS the definition of his character and what endears his fans to him.
Probably a typo, and then they missed it. Also, he's not the only won writing these theories. Ohhh.. The Federation is a Dictator ship video is bad/There confusing Star fleet for the federation.
Although I will admit that where he placed it in the script makes it sound like Han won the original card game, he never specifically says that. All he says is that Han won the Falcon in a card game. He never says that he won it in the earlier card game.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’m surprised anyone actually thought he had some legendary backstory... It seemed pretty clear to me that he always tended to try and talk himself up to impress people. This entire video is misled because MatPat didn’t realize just how often Han is bluffing 🤷🏻♂️
You forgot to mention how C-3PO noted that the Falcon had a strange programming language when they were in the cave. Due to him being a protocol droid, he is likely not proficient in the piloting droid's (aka L3) language.
Just rewatched the scene of the Kessel run. Yes L3 is interfaced with the ship and she is a GPS of sorts she doesnt fly for him. Not only that, Han does crazy manoeuvers before she is even connected. (The drft in the asteroid). He was ok at best sure because he was overconfident and reckless but he found a ship that could keep up with him. Even before L3 giving the exact position out he just knew "left-ish" he says "I see it". He's also better than Lando there
Zero Alpha I am deadly serious. I can't remember the name of tge series but the plot whent like this. After the original, the emperors back up plan kicks in, where a clone of him muscles his way to rule the remains of the empire. Eventually the crew attempts to take down this guy with Han getting to distract the guy and damn near almost beats the guy. The fight whent like this. Han bursts into the room. Emperor 2.0 uses the force to grab Han. Han jumps out of the way, shooting at Emperor 2.0. Emperor blocks the laser by holding up a pistol with the force and using it as a sheild. Emperor 2.0 proceeds to continue trying to pin Han down while using the pistol as a sheild. He fails again and again as Han continues to evade Emperor 2.0s powers. Towards the end, emperor 2.0 even gets knocked down when Han causes the pistol to blow up in the emperors face. And E2.0 would have lost to Han right there had he not did a desperate force wave thing that filled the whole room leaving to space to move.
Ethan Karp Han Solo was a leader on the racing circuit after the rebellion, Han Solo was by far the best pilot in a series of great pilots all while flying an a wing
A few problems with this theory: 1: L3 helped with navigation, not piloting, 2: Han was piloting the Falcon quite nicely during the minutes on screen before L3 was plugged in. 3: There are links between force sensitivity and piloting skills, Rey could have flown it
hmm, would you mind offering some evidence in the form of examples? I'm curious to understand why you think there's force related links to piloting skills. Because a skill by definition is learned it is not inherent.
Sorry MatPat but this is a whole lot of cherrypicking. "L3" didn't help Leia to avoid asteroids or Lando to avoid losing the dish inside DSII or keep Han from crashing onto the Starkiller's surface, but for some reason she's the one supposedly handling that one specific maneuver only? Either she's piloting the ship in which case it's crazy that nobody trying to pilot it would realize it, or she's not. The only thing said in Solo was that she had the best navigational records, which has nothing to do with steering the ship.
I love how in the beginning he says all the stuff about Han even though that's the whole point of the character he was never a completlely self made person and he cheated on everything this is all well known
Han isn't cool because of his piloting he's cool because of his snarky charm. But I also have liked all the new movies, so I'm sure most people think my opinion is dumb.
Nop. People who aren't dumb share you point of view. Most haters can't even bring basic arguments outside "prequels were better" what is obvious fat lie.
I thought L3 was just a navigational droid, SHE DOESN'T CONTROL THE SHIP, she NAVIGATES. Lando can fly it because he probably practiced it, and Rey can fly it because she can do literally everything like the Jedi Mind Trick and lightsaber combat because Disney said so
J3LLYZ People hate him cause he comments alot and just gets likes because he’s very well known. And because sometimes he comments multiple times on one video. ( people also think that he uses bots )

Even if it was she’s still not even flying, Han is. As you say she just plots the optimal course for Han to fly. I thought this was pretty obvious in the movie. Tbh to me that completely nullifies the theory, v disappointed this clickbait was churned out.
Mark Caldwell As I understand, that ship is supposedly both very old and a hodgepodge of almost radically different components, not all of which is wiped or replaced regularly. In that case, the operating system would be very wonky, given it's both highly customized and old to various degrees, something C3-PO would not run into a lot.
Ok one just because L3 is in the navigation computer does not give her any control over the ship. Han performs all those menuvers himself. Two you left out much of his actual flying time. In the chase before they download her brain Han does successfully destroy most of the tie fighters with skillful moves.
The only defense I can give for Han is when talking about the kessel run he never says he did it. He brags about the falcon saying that it is the ship that made the run.
That's true. He did say "it was the falcon".
But also before L3 was put into the falcon Solo was already flying the falcon very good
So true!

He pulls some good drifts and manages to navigate a crowded street. Also, he must have some decent knowledge to be able to flip a car he stole the exact same day 90 degrees on command.
The only thing that actually stops him is overconfidence, he probably would have made it otherwise.

Aka the force
agreed

@@ghuxsuperfan3066 that is a point, and I understand that he could have learned a thing or two, but the point of him bring kicked out still means he wasnt learning a flying. Spongebob is episodic, there is no story or consistency and they only remember things for plot. Their universe is constantly reset for convenience.

Since L3-37 is a female robot and is downloaded to the ship.

IIRC he also says "she made the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs."
Lens Hunter just like i could say "she went from 0-60 in under 3 seconds" when referring to my car

He did end up winning it fairly in a card game, but not during the main plot of the film like he states in this theory.
Micah Philson zzzz
Also in that segment he uses the original trilogy falcon instead of the new movie one.
He probably didn't pick the pictures, the editors probably did
that doesnt change the theory so fuck off
You kept saying he wasn’t a good smuggler as well, then never showed any evidence other than the one scene in Solo where he blows up the cargo. In tfa, he hadn’t had the millennium falcon in years, but he had been doing smuggling mission a lot, and that most likely implies that he had to have been a decent pilot.
The only other time actual smuggling is mentioned in the movies is about Han dumping the cargo to avoid an inspection.
He also couldn't pay back his debt to Jaba it seems like he's either bad at his job or his job doesn't pay well
If he was a good smuggler, he wouldnt be in such troubles with Jabba Hutt and all those people in TFA.

R.I.P CLIPPY 1999-2003
@Aaron - If only useful. Period.
I mean there is no way of knowing how helpful she is, but with years of data here must be alot of skill implanted in her
Yeah I agree, l3 can get you through space, but it's not like L3 can fly the ship for combat.
And infinitely more annoying?
Really? Didn’t even mention the 200 year old wookie who was probably doing most of the flying, with more experience than any human would be capable? No? Ok.
no doubt Chewy is an awesome pilot, but even so I think a computer would still be superior. so really L3 and Chewy deserve all recognition.
What if they kidnapped chewie and made him a robot
L337 wasn't at the controls, Han was. He looks at her database on a screen nearby for guidance and calculations. Did you watch the movie? (This is not an insult, just an honest question, by the way.)
He was 100 during a new hope and 135 during sequals
Micah Isham , I was just about to say , but I’m too lazy😂, thanks for taking the effort and time to say that
Here’s the thing:
Rey being able to fly the Falcon is linked to her being a force user.
Matpat u forgot in episode IV a new hope c3po says “ I don’t know how your ship learned to talk” And Han Quickly gets c3po off of the console,
That was Empire, not A New Hope.
My bad but thank you for the correction!
In the old Legends canon, the Millennium Falcon had multiple droid brains installed in it.
*Seriously watch the scene again:* ua-cam.com/video/KvJDItC6tE0/v-deo.html
Also *Episode VII* shows exactly why he's the best pilot in the Galaxy when he successfully lightspeeds past the First Order's refractor shields , then pulls out of Lightspeed before the Falcon could end up crashing into the planet. Nobody else has that unique combination of Skill & Luck to even have a hope of pull that off
As for Rey been able to pilot so well, a prequel comic to *Episode VII* reveals that she's self-taught via using flight simulator programs and the Prequel movies, particularly *Episode I* during the tuning up of Anakin's Pod Racer, reveals Force-Sensitive people are natural pilots who can subconsciously react to things before they even happen
Finally, to 100% put your argument to bed.
Han is ness
Justin Y. Hey
Justin Y. 2nd 😂
And Ness is actually Darth Vader
And Darth Vader is actually Lucas
Justin Y. Is ness
No Justin jotoro is ness. They both have hats
this theory actually explains a lot and doesn't destroy my childhood at all good stuff
TheCreepypro to bad it’s wrong, read the canon short story scorched where he wins a race in an a wing
Many theories just ignore the EU besides maybe TV shows.
Han is the kind of character to just go with it. Theory makes sense to me.
Billy Roscher didnt the producers say that all the comics were officially uncanon
Too bad for you that Disney hasn't ruined anything at all. Go back and worship the Prequels, Roscher.
A few things:
And being the best pilot in the galaxy is one of his thing..
SOURAVxC um actually, anakin is the best known pilot in the galaxy. And the high ground best him so by default the high ground is the best pilot in the universe
@@carterdc3576 Problem is, we actively see L3/Han kick his ass to save his son in A New Hope.
the movie was "supposed to" show his personality evolving from a trusting guy into a kind of scoundrelly guy. the movie didn't do crap for the series, and hurt han as a character.
I could not agree with you more that's pretty much what I just said
Never tell him the odds
Edit: there were events that happened between the original trilogy. Which led to him being promoted to General.
The High Ground True. 2-3 years passed between A new hope and Empire.
I haven't seen solo yet so i don't know, but someone i know says it should be renamed "solo, a starwars sidequest"
Well it's a good thing I already thought his character was just a bullshitter and that's why I liked him lol
um did mattpat actually watch solo bc he loses the card game for the falcon but wins in the end of the movie
Probably a typo, and then they missed it. Also, he's not the only won writing these theories. Ohhh.. The Federation is a Dictator ship video is bad/There confusing Star fleet for the federation.
Master2552 your skills in playing card game doesn't apply to your piloting skills.
WY477 H4RR15 no
He meant that Matpat said that he won the ship in the card game in the beginning but he didn’t
Although I will admit that where he placed it in the script makes it sound like Han won the original card game, he never specifically says that. All he says is that Han won the Falcon in a card game. He never says that he won it in the earlier card game.
Christina Nightraven no he did say after he wins the falcon they go on the kessel run so it probs was just a typo
Even if Han isn’t a good pilot, he will always be the badass that we know and love
Yeah... I mean... that’s the point. Han is a showy overcompensating dork. It’s like half of his charm.
"Han is a showy overcompensating dork that clearly shot first."
FFY
UltimateKyuubiFox Honestly, lmao.
...on top of that he is stuck-up, half-witted and a nerfherder! ... but NOT scruffy looking!
Except the whole Rae flying thing. She’s just a poorly written Mary Sue.
Who’s hyped for the return of Clone Wars?
BlackScape who isn’t?
Can't wait
Our only hope...
BlackScape where, when?
BlackScape what
Just rewatched the scene of the Kessel run.
He's also better than Lando there
They didn’t let him stay in the navy because they said: “we don’t need good pilot we need pilots that can follow orders “
You broke my love for solo
Zero Alpha
Let me rekindle it for you then.
Did you know in one of the books that takes place after the original 3, he outruns the force.
#1Slayer what you can’t be serious
And thanks for the like film theory and mat
Zero Alpha
I am deadly serious.
#1Slayer o my god that is so badass y now love legends Han but part of the love for canon Han is still shattered with small fragments still remaining
Okay, this episode is one of the good (very likely real) ones.
Ethan Karp Han Solo was a leader on the racing circuit after the rebellion, Han Solo was by far the best pilot in a series of great pilots all while flying an a wing
Billy Roscher hey guess what? r/incel haha your life is ruined.
Does anyone else want a Steven universe theory?
Cristian Martinez wasn’t r/incel removed from reddit like 8 months ago
A few problems with this theory: 1: L3 helped with navigation, not piloting, 2: Han was piloting the Falcon quite nicely during the minutes on screen before L3 was plugged in. 3: There are links between force sensitivity and piloting skills, Rey could have flown it
hmm, would you mind offering some evidence in the form of examples? I'm curious to understand why you think there's force related links to piloting skills. Because a skill by definition is learned it is not inherent.
Yeah Han is sans
Justin Y. Hi Justin
Justin Y. GO AWAY
You're everywhere on UA-cam !
YOU WERE *LITERALLY* ON THE UA-cam TED TALK
Justin Y. I just saw you on Alpharad’s video
Of course he can't. He doesn't have any wings...
HA!
4:21 oh hey Rathalos, I wasn’t expecting you to be here
I love how in the beginning he says all the stuff about Han even though that's the whole point of the character he was never a completlely self made person and he cheated on everything this is all well known
Mr Pedro Everyone else around him growing up was a cheater too, so how else do you expect him to adapt to his world?
I love how these comments are bashing Mat for overlooking some pretty major details, and details is what he’s known for.
Sky Flier
Not only that, he gets a lot of scenes wrong. Han did not win the Falcon when he first played cards with Lando
Apathy the fans know so much details it’s scary, but when mat pat had to do his job which is looking into details he gets shit on my the community
Han isn't cool because of his piloting he's cool because of his snarky charm.
But I also have liked all the new movies, so I'm sure most people think my opinion is dumb.
You're not alone buddy :')
Nah, I agree with you, and I like the new movies as well. I have high hopes for episode IX!
Lens Hunter you’re not dumb.... if someone says that to you, ignore them!
no. he is cool because he's Harrison Ford

Matpat: Han Solo can’t be perfect!
Rey: Hold my beer
No wonder Kylo Ren killed his Dad. He was a LIE!!!!!

Kylo won Hans down
MatPat needs to expose ProtoMario and take legal action on him, it's for his own good.
He lets his PTSD consume him with petty jealousy, he's dying and PTSD makes it worse.
Overworks with no breaks and makes death threats, he seriously needs to seek help.
Clickbaits and bitches about the news, he was once a respectable PokeTuber in 2015.
ProtoMario used to be in the military, he needs to take a break and we'd understand.
Once a government pawn, the military caused him PTSD, now he lacks common sense.
Covering up his face defeats the whole point of using a facecam, but he never listens.
Violent towards innocent people and he'll end up arrested or killed if he's not careful.
Some of us are starting to worry about him and he's changed for the worse in 2016.
You know he's become completely mental these days and never thinks before he acts.
We really care about him and wanna help him grow as a person already. #PrayForProto
Sora Song
I'm confused. Who's ProtoMario?
this is about solo the move
you do realize that L3 37s consciousness was not uploaded only her navigational map not anything else
Well fuck
They clearly accidentally did a futurama. There's a reason R2 likes to interface so much.
Even if it was she’s still not even flying, Han is. As you say she just plots the optimal course for Han to fly. I thought this was pretty obvious in the movie. Tbh to me that completely nullifies the theory, v disappointed this clickbait was churned out.
datrandomdugggy Not so, C3PO said in ESB that the ship had "rather interesting language"
The film makers didn't know.
They're too incompetent.
Rick C137 waaaa
Ok one just because L3 is in the navigation computer does not give her any control over the ship. Han performs all those menuvers himself.
Two you left out much of his actual flying time. In the chase before they download her brain Han does successfully destroy most of the tie fighters with skillful moves.
