I think one thing to note is that Netflix is Amazon's largest customer. All the streaming services use Amazon Web Services for streaming, so regardless what happens, Amazon still wins.
They use AWS only for customer data. The media streaming infrastructure is theirs. They have their own technology and they cooperate with ISPs in that regard.
Well there is one huge problem with youtube which is animated content, those people don't get paid hardly anything at all which is why you see such sparse animated content on here, so although there's some you still have to rely on old cable companies or streaming companies if you want any cool new fully featured animated shows or movies.
When your parents are divorced so your dad pays for Netflix, your mom pays for prime, Verizon gives you Disney+ for free, and Spotify student gives you Hulu
I always wanted cable companies/satellite companies to offer channels in smaller bundles (like a family bundle, sports bundle, or news bundle) or a la carte. I don't want to pay $150 for 200 channels. I'd rather pay $22 for the 25 channels I actually watch.
@@chrisruskai9341 Definitely. I much prefer this method. I meant when I used to pay for cable or satellite. We only watched like 25 channels, but had to pay for 175 channels that we never watched.
THANK YOU for that rant on Amazon's streaming interface. It is mind numbingly bad, and this is the first time I've heard anyone else complaining about it and I feel vindicated.
Disney+ is even worse, no bandwidth adjustment, frequent crashes, doesn't always where you were, agree amazon is bad but found disney plus so much worse!
@@nickperkins8477 That seems dumb from an Amazon POV. Their strategy (at least I think, although I may be wrong because i'm just some dude) is to offer a really good service (AWS) and use it to take control on other markets like retail and stuff. But it doesn't give them (not yet at least) the power to use this sort of extra exclusivity or extra accesibility to leverage users into buying their devices. Please correct me if I'm wrong; I'd really like to learn
Yeah basically every country with Disney+, exept the US, has star which include espn+ and hulu. So It'll only be the US struggling with bundles, right now I only watch disney+ cause they have everything
11:22 FYI - Hotstar was literally the main cable giant in India, Star’s streaming app - like all the shows we see were through star something from GOT to reality shows. And Disney bought it 🤭So, it has all international shows and original star content that they have been making for decades as well as everything Disney.
True but somebody still has to pay for the shows and movies to get made. If everybody started using illegal apps to watch everything then there would be no money to make the shows/movies in the first place
jokes on them, in this era it'll be cheaper to just pirate everything so soon all their stuff will just be stolen instead of buying all these subscriptions

Simple but unexpected answer: apple. Whoever creates the bundle, no matter the cost wins. The fact that you can search for your favorite show and watch it in an ipad/iphone app is huge. Netflix will charge 40 usd at some point, as will disney and probably some others and you will have the same thing as the cable prices. But everyone will pay the base price for the bundle and get apple. There is another huge problem. Advertisment. At some point the huge companies need a way to dizzle dazzle you on another platform, when cable is dead. But non synchronous streamers will never create news, will never create those trashy cheap throw away shows that only air once and then are obsolete, which are perfect for advertisment. The question is: Who will eat the advertisment cake in 30 years?
@@YoungAlienBoy I'm not going to click on a link from a suspicious reply that has nothing to do with the original comment, even if it is obviously a youtube link.
ALSO, he should keep in mind that Netflix is one of the only services that broadcast worldwide, in most countries you need a VPN to watch stuff like Disney+
As long as Netflix keeps up it’s Netflix Originals quality, then I don’t think they’ll die out. I also think that some of these streaming services will die out and go back to Netflix. So all Netflix has to do is keep making quality content long enough to overcome this fad, which I truly believe will happen.
They will because out of all the companies, they're giving their creators the most freedom and are continuing to hire talented people like Alex Hirsh and Craig McCracken.
True but Disney can afford to last as long as they can and if Netflix messes up there going to lose all there money and fail, they may also fail because other stream services take there show from Netflix so that takes away viewers cause everyone is not rich

I feel like matpat missed a really big part of this by not mentioning pirating content, which is how most people get around buying multiple expensive services, and stay unfragmented
I don't think that pirating is as that big of the problem for these companies. Mostly because there was never situation in which pirating was main cause of cancelling some show.
Considering the recent purge we’ve been seeing on HBO Max as they get ready to merge with Discover, it’s probably fair to say they didn’t survive. Or at least the present form of HBO Max didn’t survive. Either way, we are seeing a rather scary situation over there with how many shows they just removed. They might have many more, but a lot of recent additions just up and vanished.
Netflix has a bad habit of having amazing shows on until they get enough subs then they remove all the good stuff until they lose those subs, then they bring good shows back just long enough to get the subs back up, rinse, repeat
Theyre not "removing" good shows, they are losing them because the contract is ending. Im sure Netflix would love to have the office forever with all the people who love the show, but they dont own it
People won't (can't afford) to pay for dozens of streaming services. A lot of these smaller ones will not last, and will go back to selling their content to the larger players, like netflix.
I think like the case of social media platforms like Yahoo and WhatsApp, the bigger streaming services will acquire the smaller ones until there are a few corporate giants left
License exclusivity (coughmonopolycough) is what allowed the streaming companies to lose focus on quality and convenience for customers. The focus is now on the licenses the service owns rather than the service itself. Similarly, Paramount Pictures did the same thing in the movie theater business to stifle competition, making it to where only Paramount movies were allowed to be shown at Paramount theaters. The Supreme Court found this to go against the United States Antitrust laws. Kind of interesting, I’m my opinion, that we live in an era where history is repeating itself, but instead of production companies owning theaters, they own services. Also makes sense as to why piracy is so rampant, lol yaaaaarrrgh
Video games went through the same thing as well, first lots of piracy until a convenient service popped up (Steam), which went ok for a while until the market split back up again across several services, which caused a rise in piracy again and now some companies are trying to go cross-plattform again. 'Round and 'round we go.
Well, the problem is that these companies are not competing, they don't try because they can't. But we wouldn't get the same amount of content as we do now if producers didn't have exclusive rights to their productions. It wouldn't be viable investments. So it's kinda an unsolvable problem. Whatever you do you destroying the little we have. It seems to me that we just have to bite the bullet and accept reality.

@@nickperkins8477 That seems dumb from an Amazon POV. Their strategy (at least I think, although I may be wrong because i'm just some dude) is to offer a really good service (AWS) and use it to take control on other markets like retail and stuff.

People won't (can't afford) to pay for dozens of streaming services. A lot of these smaller ones will not last, and will go back to selling their content to the larger players, like netflix.
Yeah why tf would i want too pay individually for like example a NBC subscription smh
But doesn't that mean we'll have bidding wars between the giants (assuming they just don't buy the original producer), which means prices still go up?

Watching MattPat talk about Netflix in the summer of 2022. He called it.
'Round and 'round we go.
disappear
Well, the problem is that these companies are not competing, they don't try because they can't. But we wouldn't get the same amount of content as we do now if producers didn't have exclusive rights to their productions. It wouldn't be viable investments. So it's kinda an unsolvable problem. Whatever you do you destroying the little we have. It seems to me that we just have to bite the bullet and accept reality.
