I have an N, wouldn't want an M because I wanted something unique. That said, NGB (boost button) turns e-shift off anyways. And you can have the sound without the shifts. But he hit NGB before the line (when he says NGB on, I think) and burns through a lot of its 10 seconds before getting to the start line. Then the sound comes back after the NGB (not 10 seconds into the run) and then you hear the car shift... I'm perfectly fine with the M being faster but that wasn't a proper race after watching it again.
You are forgetting to hit the boost button in the ionic 5 makes a world of difference. You are not getting all of the power out of the car. I have seen this car run with lambos for a short spell you are doing something very wrong

N5 was in simulated shift mode which doesn't even make it max out power. Also no NG button used. BMW was in sport plus. He already been caught doin this in the last video. Nothing to see here. Next.

The drag race he wasn’t in the simulated shift mode because the fake engine noise wasn’t there. During the pull from 30mph yes it was active. You do realize the Hyundai is 1,000 lbs heavier, BMW tends to underestimate their HP figures and the Gear ratios on BMW’s favor acceleration vs top end speed. Lastly All Wheel Drive M3’s with a stage one tune are getting high 2.XX 0-60 numbers. They are competing with hyper-cars with low mph acceleration. Lastly a stock G80 M3 CS will do 0-60 in 3.1 seconds (Car Wow acceleration test) even tho BMW says 3.4 which is faster than Hyundais 5 N claimed 3.6 with N Grin boost on.

It sounded like the "Simulated Shifts" were turned on in the Hyundai in at least some of those races.The simulated shifts turned on makes it WAY slower than with it turned off.

The M3 CS is faster for sure. But it's not necessarily a good comparison as that is an SUV vs a sedan. It's way too lighter. Now when the RN22E Gets released... It will triumph over the CS for sure Guaranteed.

the M3 CS would've won but it would have been more fair to put the Hyundai without simulated shifts, which makes it considerably slower... This is a way closer race than shown here. There was no launch control on the drag race either...

M3CS is a beast period. Actually all the G80 M3's are pretty nasty. The 5N is a hell of a vehicle the CS is just a league above. Nothing to be ashamed of. Well done Hyundai.
The 5N is a lot quicker in the quarter mile (and any other distance for that matter), if you turn off the engine sounds and transmission fakery and use launch control.
I’m not saying that the couple of tenths would change the outcome of which car would win, but it would have been a lot closer….. on Hagerty they got a 3.0 to 60 mph….

One can clearly hear that during the shots the Ioniq was in N-Shift mode…And hence also not in drag mode… Very sad that the presenters messed that up… Reckon otherwise the Ioniq would just about win the rollraces and still lose the drag (as it really launches soft). Maybe retest it?
You must have a re-do on this video. I know for a fact that this car can dust that BMW…once you figure out how to work the Ionic5 then make a new video. I hate to see reviews that aren’t genuine. Everyone who knows about the Ionic5 Knows that that BMW should not even be close in a drag race.

It's Sam that makes the car look slow, not the car itself. Can't operate the modes, can't utilise the functions at the right time and can't anticipate getting off the line. CS is good and still takes the win, but Sam flattered the CS here with some poor driving and poor application of tools and technology available to him.....

The M3CS is fast, as fast as an M5CS up to 160 km/h. That is fact. Not using-N-Mode and boost is another (there is no limitations using boost after 10seconds directly again). As I saw at other comparisons the BMW would be around 0.2 sec faster (1/4mile). I know no one using race-start with a combustion engine in the real world at traffic lights (at least in Switzerland you would get in trouble with the police because of the engine noise). The thing is you get 2.5 Hyundai‘s for one M3CS. That is more Lucid Air territory (in the price perspective). But I am thankful for the comparison anyway.
Let's ask the question the other way round: Normally almost every electric car wins a drag race. Why not this time? Because BMW builds better cars. And good cars cost more.

It was never a good car to start with. Poor range, stripped features for the US model, QC problems. It's no wonder they are not selling well. Dealership next to me has had the same two sitting on the lot for 2 almost 3 months now with no buyers. They dropped price to 64k and 68k with no buyers still. I test drove one and it was a disappointment. I think the press cars had some magic sauce in them.
@jmsether Where did you get all of this information? As far as I am aware, not a single Ioniq 5N has had any catastrophic issues, let alone any quality control problems. And I highly doubt you have ever driven one on a track with proper professionalism. This car is faster than a track-modified Tesla Model S Plaid at Pikes Peak, which would trounce the Ioniq 5N in a straight-out drag race.

Also it's not in its most go-fast mode when you're able to hear that fake engine noise... I believe that once you double tap the N mode button on the steering wheel and then confirm it in the dash screen you should be in full attack mode... Although it should be a pretty quiet event lol.
So the M3cs is faster for a reason (almost the same real Hp and 400kg lighter). And still it cost double and will cost you more just to mantaine and fill it up with 94 octan. Most of us can't even afford to buy the 5N. So far BMW doesn't even have an EV that can challenge the 5N price wise, and on the race track. So i think hyundai is the real winner here.

So basically battery weight being 25% of your weight on top of what you already weigh to get awd is stupid and loses in a drag race, roll race, and is less efficient at basically everything other than the hit when standard awd will do just fine weighing less with an ice motor that also weighs less 😂 imagine that.
C&D tested a 2024 M3 CS and reported 10.7 avg. with a 0 - 60 @ 2.7 (2.9 without 0.2 rollout). So it's no surprise really.... Far as I know... there's hasn't been one I5N that did 10's. MotorTrend @ 11.0 was a corrected average. Best I've seen was 11.1s. I'm talking at the track and or Dragy with a maximum longitudinal profile of 1% and 100% stock vehicle.
Hold on...the Hyundai is the true hero here. Look at the price differential? The BMW is over 40k more...the performance is not justified by that outrageous price disparity . I will take e Hyundai for the win!

As an daily if you don't do long distances frequently the 5N is a great package. Here in Sweden it's almost half he price of the CS and the 5N itself is quite pricey :) Both also very capable track cars if needed albeit the CS is truly a great car and for sure a more special car. However the benefit with such performance EV is that you can drive out from you driveway and go WOT(if that is your thing.... :D) whilst in an Ice-car you most likely are halfway or at your destination before the fluids are warm (ok not exactly but you get the point) For now I went with a middle route and got myself a 24 Model 3 Perf and kept my beloved MX-5 for true pleasure. But the next versions of N's or whatever performance EV's will be interesting.

Yea, sometimes I don't trust these video specifically with a car like this with so many different modes that can affect performance.
Just add the numbers together for power to weight ratio and you will see the Ioniq5N had no chance

The 5N is a lot quicker in the quarter mile (and any other distance for that matter), if you turn off the engine sounds and transmission fakery and use launch control.
I’m not saying that the couple of tenths would change the outcome of which car would win, but it would have been a lot closer….. on Hagerty they got a 3.0 to 60 mph….

The M3CS is fast, as fast as an M5CS up to 160 km/h. That is fact. Not using-N-Mode and boost is another (there is no limitations using boost after 10seconds directly again). As I saw at other comparisons the BMW would be around 0.2 sec faster (1/4mile). I know no one using race-start with a combustion engine in the real world at traffic lights (at least in Switzerland you would get in trouble with the police because of the engine noise). The thing is you get 2.5 Hyundai‘s for one M3CS. That is more Lucid Air territory (in the price perspective). But I am thankful for the comparison anyway.

It was never a good car to start with. Poor range, stripped features for the US model, QC problems. It's no wonder they are not selling well. Dealership next to me has had the same two sitting on the lot for 2 almost 3 months now with no buyers. They dropped price to 64k and 68k with no buyers still. I test drove one and it was a disappointment. I think the press cars had some magic sauce in them.

And I highly doubt you have ever driven one on a track with proper professionalism. Also it's not in its most go-fast mode when you're able to hear that fake engine noise... I believe that once you double tap the N mode button on the steering wheel and then confirm it in the dash screen you should be in full attack mode... Although it should be a pretty quiet event lol.
So the M3cs is faster for a reason (almost the same real Hp and 400kg lighter). And still it cost double and will cost you more just to mantaine and fill it up with 94 octan. Most of us can't even afford to buy the 5N. So far BMW doesn't even have an EV that can challenge the 5N price wise, and on the race track. So i think hyundai is the real winner here.

C&D tested a 2024 M3 CS and reported 10.7 avg. with a 0 - 60 @ 2.7 (2.9 without 0.2 rollout). So it's no surprise really.... Far as I know... there's hasn't been one I5N that did 10's. MotorTrend @ 11.0 was a corrected average. Best I've seen was 11.1s. I'm talking at the track and or Dragy with a maximum longitudinal profile of 1% and 100% stock vehicle.

As an daily if you don't do long distances frequently the 5N is a great package. Here in Sweden it's almost half he price of the CS and the 5N itself is quite pricey :)
Both also very capable track cars if needed albeit the CS is truly a great car and for sure a more special car.
However the benefit with such performance EV is that you can drive out from you driveway and go WOT(if that is your thing.... :D) whilst in an Ice-car you most likely are halfway or at your destination before the fluids are warm (ok not exactly but you get the point)
For now I went with a middle route and got myself a 24 Model 3 Perf and kept my beloved MX-5 for true pleasure. But the next versions of N's or whatever performance EV's will be interesting.

U have no idea what ur talking about. Edmunds U Drag also has the m3 xdrive in 9th place and the 5N in 12th place. Once they test the lighter m4 xdrive it will be in 8th or possibly better.

You didn’t have to go that far honestly- just a quick weight to power ratio. Simple math can tell you ( plus bmw numbers) is not hard to predict this race
Yeah, wither he didn't know how to set the controls for max power on the Ioniq 5N (NGB and Launch mode) or he did and set this up so the BMW won. It would have been WAY closer if he set the I5N correctly. (and the BMW is Twice the price of the Hyundai)
