As someone who has no coding experience. I think it would be interesting to run AIs through each Mario and Sonic game until they became competent at them. Then, have them switch and swe who can survive the longest in each other's games.

Having them both be learning algorithms trained on the other game is way more interesting. My bet is that the AI trained on Mario would win in Sonic, because the AI trained on Sonic would think you can just jump into enemies from the side to kill them in a Mario game, and also would think that you have infinite health as long as you keep collecting coins whereas the mario AI, particularly in 2D, would think it always has 1 health because there are very few "powerups" in Sonic that it could mistake for mushrooms. And honestly the barriers in earlier sonic games *would* act like mushrooms so it'd still work perfectly for him.
The health system was the main reason for this. Mario is usually one hit from death in 2D unless he finds a mushroom, which is basically impossible for a bot like this, whereas Sonic needs rings, which are literally everywhere. This means in 2D Sonic has a huge advantage. However in 3D Mario has a health bar instead while Sonic still relies on rings, so Mario has an advantage.

Not for the sake of making the games easy, but to compensate for the fast gameplay. It knows you're going to be getting hit very frequently, hence the importance of the ring system. If it's a swimming competition, Mario wins, unless Sonic has a life jacket, in which case he stands a chance. I could see Mario winning a hammer throw. He's tossed Bowser around many a time. If it's who's the more family friendly series, I'd have to give that one to Mario. So, once again, it depends.

Idea: get a bot who is great at Mario and one that is great at sonic, and put them in the wrong games. Sonic bot goes to Mario, Mario bot goes to sonic. Make sure they both go to the original game.
It would be worse for Sonic games. The speed at which the games operate simply does not work without precise inputs, not to mention the much more complex level designs.
am sonic fan i love the dark ages of the franchise and the action , mature , serious n deep side with hes awesome characters for all the styles (my favorite of all the favorites are e-102 gamma but i steel like the others like blaze , shadow , metal sonic , jewel , dr starline , clutch , silver , tails , knukx , espio , sonic by it self , rouge and perhaps i forget or skipped more no really this is the charme or buty of the franchise
