What a helpful video. Thanks heaps for that mate
Thanks for the test ! I feel like another interesting test would be to measure the volume when the mask has fully compressed onto the face. You measured the "full" volume (assuming the straps are just tight enough to keep the air seal on all masks), but some masks have a larger margin of compression. So if a mask can compress to half it's volume without getting close to a mask squeeze, it doesn't matter as much if it's "full" volume is high.
The method for this second test would be almost identical except that you would press the mask against your face after having flooded it. You'd have to be careful of not pushing water into your nostrils though 😅
Hi Julian, Fun idea! I'm pretty sure the Picasso Atomic would come out as the winner. As you can see in the video it is quite flexible and will change form when it gets compressed enough.
Great video . Thanks
You're welcome, hope it helped!
Aqualung sphera x is my favourite. Very recommendable for all kinds of freediving and spearfishing
I've heard good stories about it, but also that the lens is made from plastic instead of tempered glass, so it scratches easier.
yeah that is the ultimate down side, also lens can easily fall off@@surface2wherever
Which one if them has the best sealing and don't let water in? I'm looking for a low volume mask for free diving. Which one do u recommend?
Best sealing for me is the Mares X-Free. It has never leaked on me. Even though I find the Aqualung MicroMask easier to equalise, it has leaked on me when I was not cleanly shaven. You might not have that problem :-) Good luck!
interesting video man 👍
thanks mate!
Hi, would you say picasso atomic is suitable for smaller faces, especially the nose area? My previous masks have the issuer my the silicon skirt below the nose area reaches my mouth causing leaks. Interested in getting it however trying is not an option as they don't sell it in my country so I can only get it online, would appreciate any advice!
hi joesr31, that is hard to say. It is definitely one of the smaller masks in the line up, but fits loads of faces I've found out. That said, all these masks are quite small masks. Whether the skirt would reach your mouth is hard to answer.
@@surface2wherever alright thanks, I guess I have to kind of risk it then
@@joesr31 Yeah, if you have nowhere to try it, it's always a gamble. Let me know how it works out!
hi there,
what about field of view?
is mares x free any better then micromask,or they are even
what you think?
Very good question! I will try to check that for you soon! I believe there is not a huge difference, but I'll test it.
@@surface2wherever hey buddy, forget about all...
you should try new micromask x...real game changer..
extreme soft silicone, crazy low inner volume and huge fov...
you must try it
@@djnree Cool! I'll check it out!
I was literally about to buy the Viper 😂 Good think they didn't have it. I ended up getting the xfree
Good thing mate!
How come the Picasso Atomic is under different brands like Wettie Stingray?
I think there is no (longer a) patent on the design.
Hi, have you tried c4 falcon too?
No, but I would like to!
Where is Cressi Calibro?
What are volume of glasses? 200ml?
Hi Tadas! What do you mean? The glasses have volume, but no internal volume that needs to be equalised. Exact numbers of internal volume I don't have at hand at the moment.
@@surface2wherever hehe. I mean glasses of watter in which you spilled watter. Are those 200 ml glasses?
@@tadasks9427 Haha, get it now! I think they are about 200-300ml. Not sure 😃
“THE TEST MAYBE SUBJECTIVE” you stated at the beginning of the video…….
BECAUSE YOUR HOME AND THAT VIEW IS BETTER THAN ANYONE WATCHING THIS VIDEO….CONGRATS!!!
Jajaj if depend off you takes water
Hi Vetheus, I don't really understand your English. What is your question?
@@surface2wherever depend of your takes water
@@lubervetheus5938 That is why I repeated the experiment. But if you don't trust it you can always try yourself. Why, do you believe the outcome is incorrect and the Mares Viper should be the lowest in volume for example? I'll bet you it won't be if you try yourself.
Also, when comparing the Aqualung Micromask and Mares X-Free they seem very similar in internal volume, but the ease of mask equalization of the Micromask is far greater. Even though the grip on nose is better with the X-Free. In a sense, volume and grip might not be the only factors in ease of mask equalization.
@@surface2wherever So what mask is the best for freediving based on your experience ? Thanks for the video btw.
@@Abisshaq Hi Ludlow, thank you for your question. In my experience the Aqualung Micromask is the overall winner. It has a low volume, very soft silicone, and is easiest to equalize. The only drawback is that I and other freedivers I know have found that it is very important to be clean shaven. The slightest moustache grow can make it leak. I haven't tried combatting this issue with vaseline, which might work wonders, so I shave every time before diving with a Mask.
