I was just bafled by what they drew inspiration from making this show, as if they just went to 2008's deviant art and put whatever they found into it.

I don't understand cartoon networks beef with ms. Bellum. She was a smart, attractive,sophisticated women who was confident in her body. She looked like a "bimbo" yet was actually very smart. She's a delightful role model. I find characters like that far more empowering than some of the more stereotypical "female role models"
You said it yourself. She was attractive, and in their minds being conventionally attractive means you're bad.
She was also a sort of mother figure to the girls. I loved it when she gave them advice on how to beat the Rowdy Rough Boys.🙂
There is no beef. They just didnt understand the character. They just fell for the punch line, ironically by removing her because of her body when the joke was the fact that she was intelligent and opinionated but you couldn't see her face. Just her chest and legs.

I love how we lost the og tall woman no-face icon Miss Bellum for "potentially being offensive" even though her entire thing is that she was commentary on women being only seen for their sexual appeal/body, being literally named after a part of the brain, described as being the "brains of the operation", portrayed as very very smart and capable, and literally squared up with a powerful supervillain Sedusa by herself.
But we get this, whatever this is.
Yeah!! Hell- didn't she fight off a medusa type character that was trying to trick Professor Utonium? I remember that episode vaguely and if I'm remembering it correctly, she kicked ass!

The writers are really ignorant about the gym. To gain muscles, it's from eating protein and obviously exercise. To lose muscles, you actually stop eating as much but same amount of exercise.

Oh man, I remember this! My parents used to show me the old version when I was little! I haven’t seen much about the reboot, but I agree, it looks HORRENDOUS. I loved the style of line art, the stories, and the lobster guy, and it seems like they just destroyed everything I loved in the old one.
Why does Buttercup even need muscles when she allready can lift Buildings, planes, cargoboats and gigant monsters.

I've seen shows that didn't know how to write little girls, but I don't think I've ever seen a show that HATED little girls as much as this one does.
They interpreted a girl that was driven and intelligent as neurotic and bossy.
They interpreted a girl that was innocent but thoughtful as ditzy and selfish.
And they interpreted a girl that was confident and strong as a mean-spirited bully.
PPG 2016 hating little girls is EXACTLY the energy I get from this Reboot.
Now, This! This is the description i was looking for.
These characters got completely flanderized, and are stripped of what makes them good characters.
Blossom was a good leader who made mistakes sometimes.
Bubbles was sweet and caring but tough.
Buttercup was hardcore and confident but had insecurities.
They were actually good characters, but the reboot completely axed them.

Exactly; I really don’t understand how most of these episodes get approved. My first thought when seeing the thumbnail was how it looked like DA inflation/fat fetishing art, and I’ve also seen episodes on Cartoon Network a few years ago when I went to the ymca (they had a tv playing all day) where the CHILD characters would be twerking and stuff- idk this all makes me soooo uncomfortable lmao

99% of all cartoon "reboots" end up just being the paintjob of the original cartoon on some horribly written, trace-job that pushes some modern, corporate out of touch message.

A lot of people trash on the Ben 10 reboot, but I argue that it's actually better than Alien Force and Ultimate Alien. Is it perfect? No, there's some major issues that I wish were fixed but unfortantaly never were. Is is the same type of reboot like Teen Titans Go and PPG 2016? No.

I thought Season 2 and 3 were excellent, but I think the Ben 10 Reboot improved the original show (meaning the first one), fixing elements I thought dragged the original down a lot. Like I said, is it perfect? No, but it's still an enjoyable watch, and, unlike the other Cartoon Network reboots, respects what came before it.
I showed both powerpuff girl shows to my kids and without hesitation the old version Won. Kids deserve better lol.

Exactly. Sara Bellum’s name is literally a play on Cerebellum, a part of the brain. The character was ALWAYS written to be smart and strong. While the mayor was officially in charge, she usually called the shots and made him think it was his idea. She was cool and much more of a feminist icon than any of these y/n style wannabes that Hollywood pushes on us these days
My favorite episode was the one where she fought Sedusa.
So they're like the Mayor? Mayor was better tho, he got to throwdown with Fuzzy when the latter stole his hat and ended up kicking his ass. Imagine being the Mayor without those moments. That's them.

Actually in that episode Buttercup was NOT out of shape. In fact if you look at her, she was actually buff'd to the MAX... which is a problem IRL that some people who do bodybuilding go too far with their musclebuilding and actually get so muscular that they have problems moving around normally.

Craig McCracken seems to be doing pretty well in his career since he moved on from the Powerpuff Girls. Shows like Wander Over Yonder and Kid Cosmic are both gems. But Hollywood never understood why the Powerpuff Girls were successful to begin with, and the 2016 reboot and the recent CW script are proofs of that.

It really says something about the reboot when I actually got nervous about my parents walking by while watching this review(especially with the XXL Buttercup on screen) because I feel so much like I'm watching something inappropriate despite it being a children's show.

One thing about the reboot that was shown in this review is how week the Powerpuff Girls are. In the original the girls were incredibly powerful. They could take on anything and when they were losing it was to incredibly powerfull villains like the Rowdyruff Boys and Him. In the reboot, the girls are constantly captured by things they should easily get out of or even injured by things that never injured them in the past. In this episode specifically, Blossom and Bubbles were trapped in a giant pet cage when they should've easily been able to break out of it. But no, they had to give some sort of excuse to get Buttercup over being very musclely
I've always found that when the writers for kids shows are more interested in 'appealing' to their audience then actually writing the show, we get stuff like this. They look at what's popular and trendy and shove as much of that into the script as possible so there's no room for anything original or even an actual script. Then of course because of how fast those things move now, even by the time the episodes go out, they're referencing things that are out dated and past their time, well into the cringe zone, which the show further pushes it into.

I feel like teen titans go is a great example of that. The writers ignore the story and characters for what’s trendy and “funny”. It’s sad to see so many good shows get ruined like that

The conflict with her muscles weighing her down is so stupid, like the girls have had much worse happen to them but muscles suddenly slow them. Wouldn't it make more sense Buttercup got cocky from her enhanced abilities and the girls decided to try and weaken her muscles to get her back leading to a fight in the city
Or another possibility: she is TOO strong and cannot control her flight or power anymore and destroys more than she saves. Would have been better than "too buff to fly LOL"

Or, as often happens, she just can't do things anymore because she's too big. Saberspark even pointed out in the video how some people can't drink from a cup they're holding or tie their shoes because they can't bend their arms enough with the muscles in the way.
Imagine her being able to punch through the crust of the Earth itself to the mantle, but she keeps losing fights because she can't do things like turn her head to see an incoming punch or bend over to pick things up. That idea of hyperspecialization to the point of detriment makes a much more interesting storyline.

Yeah you can easily tell when Craig is upset about something that happens to his shows. When WOY's cancellation got out (and pretty prematurely) he got a little stiff communicating it to the fandom. Soon, he changed his twitter banner to a screencap with both protagonists x-eyed.

It was just outright terrible. Even though the PPG concept isnt that hard to understand as a fan, yet all these sin offs just get it wrong. The Anime, the CW show, this terrible reboot... its sad. The fan comics that make them into adults or ones where they crossed over with other cartoon neckwork characters, do it better justice. (That old comic where Blossum is attracted to Dexter.)

Just....what have they done to Buttercup!?! Oh my god! I never bothered to ever see the reboot knowing full well they fucked up the PPG but this image, will burn into my nightmares. I'm glad I never watched the reboot show, because I used to enjoy watching the original PPG growing up. I don't think I'll ever see them the same again.

That’s a great decision. I watched one ep with my sis; and I swear, it’s a nightmare. Cringy storyline, second hand embarrassment, and characters all just gone wrong compare to original.

Ya know this is one episode, right? I personally enjoy the reboot and later on especially it has pretty funny jokes. Again, don’t base your judgement for a multi season show on one episode. I mean, every show no matter how good has a bad episode, and this is one example of that.

Good thing Danny Antonucci has managed to secure the creative rights for Ed, Edd n Eddy from Cartoon Network. That way, while they are allow to rerun the show, he will NEVER EVER allow a reboot of his magnum opus to ever be made officially. There are fan attempts on the internet sure like having the Eds in high school but most of them are nowhere close to the original charm. If he didn't secure it, imagine what the Ed reboot would have been like if it was made in the hands of people like the ones who made Teen Titans Go, Powerpuff Girls 2016, Ben 10 2016 and Thundercats Roar. Heck, reply what you think the disaster the EEnE reboot might have been if it was ever officially greenlit.
And honestly... I would 100% prefer a fan-made unofficial work over a new cartoon network serie that was not made and decided by Antonucci... becouse at least what moves fans to do something as hard-working, long and complex as animation is the love for the original source and at least they will try (I imagine so at least) to stay true to It... a lot of CN reboots feels like all same looking cheap corporate lazy wrote crap...

Powerpuff girls Z rubbed me the wrong way in the same way that this reboot feels like teen titans GO in powderpuff girl mascot costumes.
It was magical girl anime with a powerpuff girl sticker on it. It didn't feel like the powerpuff girls and the effect was twilight zone esque when I watched it.

I grew up with Totally Spies and ICarly/Victorious so I'm (strangely, unfortunately?) well versed in writers putting in odd fetish material, and even this was too much. Totally Spies was way more subtle with their inflation tropes and muscle growth plots which is such an odd thing I didn't know could even be screwed up.

The villain gallery here was the most annoying part of the show. The old show at least had better themes for each villain giving them substantial personalities that made them unforgettable and dynamic. Any of them separate or together could’ve held an episode all their own and make it exciting. These villains were all over the place like this installment itself like it was still finding its voice and couldn’t make up its mind!
I can’t remember half of them or which was supposed to be the best in their heads. And Bliss was one Powerpuff too many! This overinflated train wreck was a failed experiment we didn’t need and even the network couldn’t take seriously given it allowed them to fade into obscurity when it was still supposedly active at the time.
The live action installment is really gonna bury this poor franchise. They really need to take back their self respect.
In a way I'm almost glad they didn't use the old villains that much, cause I know they would have just ruined them.

I feel like some (and I do mean some) villains had some potential. Like, the fashionistas In their debut using peer pressure and trends to control townsville. That's actually somewhat cool. The main issue is that the spotlight is so spread out. There are like, aside from mojo, 1-4 episodes featuring each villain in the entire series. And their roles usually boil down to cameos or simply not being a threat. Remember him? That guy who turned townsville into hell on earth just because he can? The only other episode he's in aside from power of four is a godamn guitar match. There is no room for these characters to shine.

I can summarize how all of this happened quite succinctly. The people that directed PPG 2016 absolutely hated the original PPG. Same with the people that directed ThunderCats Roar, same with the people that directed Teen Titans Go, etc. This seems to be a new trend in animated shows, reboots directed by people that hated the originals. I don't know why it's a trend, but it is.

But even ignoring that, there was an interview (I believe back in 2016) where the directors themselves said that they do not like the original series.
You know, I grew up with the original Teen Titans, and when I first saw the remake I felt the same way you felt in this video. I walked way feeling betrayed and shaken to my core.
The anime is awesome. They aren't sisters but it makes sense since their hair is different. They're older and have different family dynamics which contributes to their personalities. And I liked that they added more to Blossom. Love the show

Not only did they animate the girls twerking (in 2 episodes i should add). they made Buttercup give a prolonged kiss to a grown woman, and they made a character look like one of the writers, with a similar name to the writer, and made him a love interest to Blossom.
There's honestly so many layers of awful to this remake.
