    I loathe that Barbara Dixon woman. I remember on the Gabriel Fernandez documentary, they tried to call her for comment and she was all upset, saying "leave me alone, do you know how hard this has been on me?" On you, lady??? Really??? Children were tortured and died! Ugh, it's infuriating to think that people like her are put in safeguarding situations.

      @@Thetruththatisee right! The Adrian Jones case got me as well. It's hard to imagine anyone hurting a child but for a parent to hurt their own child and/or stand back and allow someone to hurt their child just blows me away. I live in England and I watched a documentary regarding Gabriel. It was shocking!
      I have just followed the murders of JJ and Tylee, that was gruesome and not forgetting poor little Gannon.
      We’ve had our fair share though as well. My parents used to foster babies and children and most of the cases were nasty. My mum would always say that the children were possessions and not little people to the parents.

    It really struck such an emotional cord with me when paramedics referred to him as looking like a cancer patient. I have battled cancer twice in my life, once when I was 28 and again when I was 57. I know just how brutal it can be on you physically ( I was lucky to survive and I'm fine now) But I also met many people along the way that sadly were not as lucky as me. So it makes me feel like screaming that this little boy suffered so badly his little body was tortured to the point of becoming so damaged. 😢

      Why do social workers fixate on minutiae issues in healthy families but blatantly ignore open and shut cases? Like, I get that they’re understaffed, but that would imply that the open and shut cases would be the easiest cases for an underfunded and understaffed system to focus on.
      The only thing I can come up with is that the entire system just wants to keep dysfunctional people to themselves and not intervening in the hopes that the situation just takes care of itself. I realize how dark that is, but I can’t figure out anything else.

    This is partially a result of Privatization of what should be actual social services because agencies are treated like businesses and children become targets that need to be met. Of course the blame is on these "parents" but child protective services needs to be effective in protecting children who are not being protected by their families.

    Your passion for these kinds of cases is so important, so thank you for bringing it to us. The way in which we treat and care for our vulnerable says a lot about our society and unfortunately time and time again, I am reminded that our society appears to be in a terrible place. When our children are not able to find protection and care from those that should protect and care for them, what chance does our world have. I understand what you mean when you say that sometimes we see women in a slightly different light when it comes to abuse. I struggle as well with this. I think it is natural to see things that way. How anyone can look into the eyes of an innocent child and then deliberately hurt them is beyond reason. This case is so devastating and my love goes out to the family ❤

    The Captain's chair brings back memories of middle school. We had a geography teacher that expected us to be silent from the moment we walked in the room till we left. If anyone made a peep he would either throw chalk sticks at us or make us do the chair till the bell rang. That's crazy how this little boys story sent me back to seventh grade and an abusive teacher I loathed, no wonder I got C's in his class.

    Reminds me on the killing of Gabriel Fernandez there was sooooo many missed opportunity’s and lots of people raised concerns to police and social services utterly heartbreaking . I watched the trial and it literally traumatised me for weeks he was such a beautiful little kind hearted boy it would be good to cover that one to honour Gabriel and to highlight the failings 😢😢

    I think another reason they thought Anthony was gay is because he was molested by his grandfather which would make him an abused child not gay and it was the mother's fault he was molested in the first place!

    5 years earlier in the same city, Gabriel Fernandez was tortured and murdered by his mother & her boyfriend. He was 8 years old. DCFS also failed this boy as the family was well known to the social workers. The parents called him “Gay” as they beat him to death. The boyfriend received the death penalty & the mother pled guilty and received life with no possibility of parole ever. Heartbreaking story & so terribly similar. 😞

    This story brings me back to the most horrific case of child abuse and neglect that I’ve ever seen and heard of, the Gabriel Hernandez case which I watched years ago and it still haunts me to this day!! I will never forget what that innocent little child went through, never! Anthony’s case is right up there with Gabriel’s, they’re not suffering anymore by the hands that were supposed to protect and love them, but now are touched by the hands of our Lord Jesus and angels in heaven and know nothing but peace and love…..rest in eternal peace little ones, you are now free! 🩵💞

    I find it absurd that they would think him of saying he was gay. Firstly, most kids of his age are not sexually interested. If they are..for me it's a red flag. Second, this poor child is absolutely frightened by these monsters! I don't see him doing this. There is a special place in hell for people like them. I hope Karma repays them. Including the others that failed him.

    thank you for covering this case, Emma. as usual, your compassion shines through, which is more than i can say about most other true crime presenters.
    there is one point that has been bugging me, however, and it may be just an issue of wording. a child saying that they like someone could mean a crush or a puppy love, first love, as lots of people are pointing out; it is all about the romantic attraction and is in no way undermining someone's claims of being a part of lgbtqia. that being said, sexualising the self-realisation and the experience of being gay and reducing it to sex and only sex is quite harmful. saying that a child is too young to know themselves to be gay, that they are confused is just off the mark, simply because you never hear people saying that about being straight. ever.

    • @julros03
      @julros03 11 місяців тому

      I felt the same way hearing that. He was a 4th grader and plenty of people had straight crushes at that age. Some were even dating, even if it was only consisted of holding hands and sitting next to each other at lunch. Someone's attraction doesn't have to be sexual. For some reason parents think its cute when people at boyfriends and girlfriends at that age, but if they have a same-sex crush that's just looking up to them or being confused and can't be real.
