    When making the cayenne infused oil for the pain salve, do you use the whole cayenne pepper or do you use powder, or does it matter which you use?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 роки тому +5

      I normally don't prefer using powders in extractions, especially in oils, but I've found that with cayenne, you get a REALLY powerful infused oil with the powder. The trick is to shake it daily. If you're growing your own cayenne, just use a grinder dedicated to herbs and be sure to clean it well after use. :-)

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  Місяць тому

      There are other herbs I would primarily use, depending on your type of ulcer. Remember, herbs aren't like drugs. We choose them according to the individual's needs and situation. But cayenne could be a fine support! Look into Oregon grape root and calendula....without knowing more, those may be helpful. (This is NOT medical advice, as I'm not a doctor. I'm an herbalist. The FDA likes me to make sure people know this. )

  • @anthm429
    @anthm429 2 роки тому +2

    Hi, Heidi. So for a cayenne infused oil we would use 2 cups of cayenne and 4 cups of oil? (For the 1:2 ratio).

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 роки тому +2

      No, just go by the jar size is best. Fill your cayenne about 1/3 to just under a half full in the jar. Then add your olive oil. Use a skewer or shake well to fully incorporate the oil. Then you'll need to top it off as the cayenne will absorb some. It's important to shake it daily because otherwise the cayenne powder gets compacted. Good luck!

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 місяці тому +1

      It depends on your body, how much you're taking, etc. But generally it's quite safe. It does thin the blood, so be aware of this and if you're on blood thinners, be sure to ask your doctor if it's ok. Also, have you tried magnesium?

    • @27kjh
      @27kjh 2 місяці тому

      @@HeidiVillegas Thank you so much for your reply. Yes I do take Magnesium as well but it was when I started the Cayenne, I noticed a reduction in the cramping. Yes I have heard it’s a blood thinner. Although it’s confusing because I’ve heard putting it on a cut, will stop the bleeding…so doesn’t that help the blood coagulate. Being a blood thinner is a concern for me because my blood is thin naturally and I don’t take any medication. Maybe I need to work on finding another solutions for leg cramps.

    Does the heat unit impact its medicinal value? I.e. the higher the HU the more concentrated the healing value?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 роки тому +2

      To an extent, yes. I feel that the range of heat units is best between 30K and 90K. There's not much reason to go hotter than that, and temporarily burning the skin is a potential issue (as I've found from experience).

    Can you please tell me if there are two different types of Cayenne peppers? Thank you.
    I asked because I bought a packet and it's very spicy; my daughter gave me a packet and the colour is slightly darker and it's not spicy at all!

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  3 місяці тому

      Hey, SkinnyDee! So, the peppers are in the Solanaceae family, and in this family are the Capsicum genus. Within the Capsicum genus, you'll find around 25 different species. Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) has a high amount of the chemical capsaicin, and this is why most herbal preparations for pain relief, soothing nerve pain, etc. are made with this species. The most common range of heat units are between 60K to 90K although there's a larger range than those.
      So, you'll need to know the species name of the pepper your daughter brought home. And then if you can, see if you can get the heat unit range. Most nurseries don't give you the Skoville heat unit range. You can purchase your cayenne powder from quality herb suppliers, like Starwest or Mountain Rose or Pacific Botanicals---they test the heat units for you so that you'll know what you're getting.
      If you grow your own, which I also recommend, you'll not really know for sure your heat unit range. But cayenne is just one of those peppers that works!

    How do I use to help with pain and pre diabetic

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  Рік тому +1

      You'll need to choose a good Skoville heat rating for your body first, and then decide how you want to use the cayenne---internally or externally or both, then make the preparations you need. There are quite a few options with cayenne, so people will choose what's best for them. :-) For join pains, for example, most people prefer the salve....some with just the heat; and others find some relief by adding cooling herbs/oils to it too. If you're pre-diabetic, be sure to discuss lifestyle changes with your doctor because pre-diabetes may be able to be completely reversed! And that's the best thing.

    How do I use it to relieve a migraine

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  Рік тому

      You would use the tincture--a few drops in water. But honestly, this recipe I'll share in this link is very well-suited to migraines: healingharvesthomestead.com/home/2016/9/4/migraines-make-a-tincture-that-takes-off-the-edge

    So, are other hot peppers also medicinal?? Or.... just cayenne?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  Рік тому +1

      Hot peppers all contain capsaicin, which is the primary medicinal compound in peppers, but not all have as much as others. :-) Cayenne is a great pepper because it seems to have just the right amount for most of us.

    You started to say that you recently started taking the tincture 2x a day; but never got to why you started that routine. Can you elaborate?

      Absolutely! I started this as an additional support to my cardiovascular system. I manage my hbp naturally, so this is another great tool!

    Does the higher hotness mean better results? I don’t like super hot. I’m like a mild Taco Bell hot sauce kinda girl!

      Not necessarily. In fact, my best results with my own back and my friends anc clients have come with 60K to 90K heat units.

    Heidi I’m so thankful I stumbled on your channel! I’ve learned so much from you and intend to follow you forever 😁. I’m sure you are inundated with comments and suggestions so I’m going to sound off too, you might find this video interesting/enlightening ua-cam.com/users/livea8hZ5wScRoI?si=CrEE71tmiVgrrBlx. In it she has distinct reasons for choosing specific oils and extraction methods , does a great job in explaining her reasoning, although she does ramble a bit and gets distracted easily. I’d really like to know what you think of her philosophies. I’m not familiar with with Michael Moore or Cammy McBride but she of their influence. Again, thank you for taking the time and effort to enrich our lives. God bless

      Thanks, Pixie! I'll check out the video, and yes, Michael Moore is one of the great old time herbalists...he's wonderful. Kami has done quite a lot with herbs in the kitchen and infused oils.
