    You can also put it in an airtight heat resistant glass container and put it in a pot and boil it on low heat for one hour. This also extracts the herbs essence into the oil also. This is the method I use. After you do that, you have the option to leave the herbs in or strain them out or leave them in to look pretty.

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому +6

      Yes ,definitely . I use that method for my propolis salve but I use my crockpot. The blender method in this video is a faster way of extracting from some herbs. Different methods but same results. Thanks for watching. Hope this salve helps.

    Greetings from Pensacola Florida🦩🏝
    Just so happens I grew my first Cheyenne Peppers this past summer and ended up with a large batch of them all from just one plant. They are hot as hades as well, so hot in fact that I didn’t know what all to do with them. Well thanks to you I know what to do with some of them now. Thank you so much for all the great tips at the end as well in the different wraps etc- great ideas!

      Suzy- I think you’ll find it will be a very easy plant to grow and the more red peppers you pull off as they mature the more peppers come back. Seemed like it was putting out twice the amount then before. I’d pick 4-5 peppers 🌶 one day and the next time I’d go to pick the next peppers there would be 6-8. It kept producing all summer and I didn’t think it would ever quit producing peppers and they are so beautiful as well. I ended up air drying my peppers by stringing them with a needle and thick thread. Just pierced the green stem with the needle and thread and kept adding peppers to the thread as they were harvested and it was about 3 ft long and had to start another strand of peppers. The peppers were about 2 inches apart on the thread and I’d hang them across the window where they’d get sun and they dried beautifully. There’s diff ways to dry them and read where someone did there’s like this so I tried it for the first time.
      Maybe you can tell us about your health garden some day. I’d love to see it! I have a huge Aloe plant as well and all of my plants are grown in containers as well. They are easier for me to tend to big pots vs the ground due to the storms we have here and the soil is just to sandy on the ground.

      I just started also and will be doing this one tomorrow. I have awful knee pain and had a cortisol shot once..... Never again! I have comfrey infusing and would like to add this to my options.

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому

      That’s a great idea. I’ve heard how comfrey can ease pain too. My mom used to have those shots, it was so very painful for her. The cayenne salve is good , I’m glad you’re trying different remedies to see what works best for you. I know this might sound a bit out there ,but you might want to try a fresh ginger poultice on your knee for a few hours. Just take a couple of inches of fresh ginger , mince it up, add it to a cotton cloth like a handkerchief and fold it up, wrap around your knee for a few hours. There should be one layer of material between your skin and the fresh ginger. My sister did this and had much relief from her knee pain. This works if your knee is inflamed. It is said that the ginger pulls the inflammation out of the joint, hence easing the pain. Only do it for a few hours every few days. This isn’t meant as medical advice , just something easy that might just help you. If it does help you , share it with others who might benefit. Thanks for watching. Hope one of your remedies work!

    Cayenne pepper is in the Capsicum Annuum family / chili peppers are members of the nightshade family Solanaceae ... so while they can be interchangeable as 'heat' in dishes, I'm wondering if they can also be interchangeable for a medicinal application.

      Hi there. It’s a pretty solid salve but will melt when applied. I’ve just looked up my beeswax alchemy book and they are using 20 % beeswax in the recipe for a deodorant stick. Therefore, if you want to try this out, use 80% cayenne oil to 20% beeswax. I would make one stick as a test. The extra beeswax won’t change much , it will just create a more solid bar to use. Let me know how it works. It’s a better way to apply this onto your skin without touching it with your hands. Good idea.

    Hi, just found your channel! I have made cayenne salve for a while ( I am inte of those that doesnt feel the heat..), but haven't tried the alcohol variant yet. I have looked for it, though! So glad I found it!
    I wonder:
    Do the alcohol method work for any herbs (the same way and amounts?)?
    When I makesalves I replace a little of the bees wax with some cetyl alcohol that makes the salve less greasy. Any thoughts on that?
    And adding some ginger to the salve might be helpful too. I use both in my cayenne salve. I also replace a tiny bit if the oil for some castor oil. It has some pain-relieving properties. I put some in all my salves. Any thoughts on that?
    Thanks for a great video! 🙏

      Hi there. As far as I know , the alcohol method works for many dried herbs. It speeds up the process of infusion However, there are some herbs that require additional time to steep or infuse. It depends on the herb being used, I don’t have a list to refer to. I haven’t used very alcohol, I’ll have to look into that. I think it’s great that you have the knowledge to add other oils. It’s a matter of experimenting to see how it absorbs, heals, feels etc…. Thanks for taking the time to share this. I appreciate you watching this video 🙏

      Hello BC Canada ! thanks for subscribing. Capsaicin is the active ingredient in the salve. cayenne pepper contains approximately 2.5 mg of capsaicin per gram. Ghost peppers are much higher in capsaicin I believe. Although you’d think more is better, the excessive heat may be to much if applied topically and burn your skin. I don’t know for certain but I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m sure the ghost peppers would make mighty pepper sauce ! 🔥. Thanks for your comment, hope this helps.

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому +2

      Oh dear. These remedies may not work for everyone. However, the salve works on numbing the pain, not necessarily creating heat that you can feel. Also, you might want to check on the freshness and heat of the cayenne powder or chill peppers you’re using. Like most dried herbs , they lose their effectiveness with time. If that doesn’t work you might want to try a ginger poultice. I recently read about this and gave it to my sister who had terrible knee joint pain, so much that it was hard for her to walk. After 4 hrs of applying the poultice , she said the pain had reduced by 50%. I’m certainly not qualified to give any medical advice, these are just simple home remedies. However, this might be worth a try…you’ll need a small square of fine cloth or cotton material (like a handkerchief) and grate a couple of inches of fresh ginger into it. Fold it up into a little packet , apply the packet or poultice to your should and wrap a bandage around it to hold in place. Wear it for a few hours and see if it brings some relief. The ginger is suppose to help draw out the inflammation and hence relieving some pain. It says not to leave it in too long or do it continuously because it could irritate your skin. This works best for joint pain and inflammation. It’s just a thought. Hope it helps.

      Hi there. The alcohol does two things, it helps preserve the salve and speeds up the infusion process. You can’t substitute with vinegar because it would introduce water into the oil and it would go make the salve go bad. If you don’t want to use alcohol , you can infuse the oil by letting it sit in a dark cupboard for 6-8 weeks. Then you’d make the salve. Or you could use the water heating method ,in a crock pot ,like in the propolis video. Heat no more than 120*f for 4-6 hrs or until the oil turns a dark reddish colour- then make salve by adding beeswax . Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Suzy, where it is difficult to find honey wax, what can you use? Can Vaseline petroleum jelly do?

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому

      Hi there. You want to use a beeswax. It’s a small amount so even beeswax candle shavings would work. There are other waxes you can use that are made for diy cosmetics too. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    I thought you were not supposed to have any humidity in your oil because it can cause mold to grow in it

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  2 місяці тому +1

      You’re absolutely right. Any water in oil will create a perfect environment to create mold. The herbs should be dry. The alcohol evaporates , preserves and opens up the herbs to release benefits. I believe trained herbalists infuse with fresh herbs but it’s a different technique which timing is crucial. I’m not familiar with that technique which is why I only use dried herbs. Thanks for sharing this and thanks for watching. I hope this helps relieve some pain and discomfort.

    Can I use soy wax as that's all I currently have

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому +1

      Hi there. Yes, you can substitute with soya wax. I think the ratio is the same 1:1. I read that soya melts slightly lower than beeswax. Melting point around 130 degrees F. So this is even better for combining into the oil without overheating the cayenne oil infusion. Hope this helps. Let me know if your salve has a nice firm texture and is easy to apply Thanks for watching

    Can you use tallow instead of oil and beeswax??

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому

      I’ve never used tallow to make this. I believe it’s safe to use tallow but it becomes a solid state at room temp. So I don’t think it will infuse like oil does. I use the sunflower oil because it has the extra vitamin e in it but others use different oils like olive oil etc. hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

      Yes. Also, I’ve watched how they infuse flower petals in tallow to capture its fragrance. That’s on my list of things to try too.

    Can any body explain the difference between cayenne pepper and chilli

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  12 днів тому

      Hi there. Cayenne is a specific type of chili pepper, whereas “chili pepper” can refer to any pepper in the capsicum family. The cayenne has a specific heat which works well for pain relief. Hope this helps you and thanks for watching.

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  2 роки тому +4

      You’re right. It’s cayenne peppers that have higher amounts of Capsicum than other peppers in the chilli pepper family. This makes the salve more effective. Thanks for sharing and watching this video.

    Does it have to be Vodka or can it just be rubbing alcohol?

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  6 місяців тому

      Hello. You won’t find heat as in warming up like commercial muscle rubs. The heat is in the cayenne pepper properties. Some find a tingling sensation on the skin but it depends on your sensitivity. I hope you continue to use it and monitor if it gives you some pain relief. I’m hoping it does.
