Due to his extreme PTSD he would start screaming and whatnot and it would always scare us kids to the point we ran out of the room. Sad what war can do to one’s mental health 😞

Said he saw someone get beat so much that their face was practically mush and another guy literally blown to pieces from an explosive. All their innards scattered everywhere. Everytime he talked about it, he sounded so scared and haunted, like he felt the hand of the devil on his back. I remember one time he was talking about it with a straight face and was just staring at the wall with tears streaking down his face. No emotion, no wailing just a straight stare and tears. I can only imagine…🙁 he clearly wasn’t the same after that war.
I just now realized how grateful I am because my nana survived WW2 even thought this is WW1 I'm still really grateful she's 99 now and doing well her mother (my great great grandma) died at 109 years old
