The “heavy Gustav” rolls on trains, and it only saw a battle from very far away because it couldn’t reach because the rail workers couldn’t keep up also the tank was super slow
It was a design concept, like ratte, it was never put into production and would've been pointless anyways since a column of tanks could accomplish the same thing.
My grandfather would often tell me stories of the war. Many times he remarked on the sheer horror he and his fellow soldiers would feel when they were face to face with a ridge wallet Edit: Wow this blew up a little. Thanks for all the likes, friends. Glad I was able to give a few people a chuckle
@@Julio-it1pl It literally says that they did it for counterintelligence, meaning they put it in the magazines to fool the allies but never planned to make it an actual tank
That is literally how most tanks are named. Any fancy name comes from the manufacturer, like "Sherman", despite just being Medium 4 A 2 (M4A2). Many weapons also have the same treatment.
You have to think that the artillery would have been so far back behind enemy lines that it couldn't really be seen for a day or two of traveling. But I see what you mean.
Heinz Guderian, in his memoirs, wrote how frustrated he was that Berlin kept designing newer and crazier tanks instead of settling on two or three good models and mass producing the heck out of them. It wouldn’t have done any good as they couldn’t keep pace with allied production, but a few more tigers would have served Germany better than the crazy Maus ever did
The Ridge Wallet, produced in 1944 as a last-ditch effort to stop the Allies, it was an immense but due to its low width it was deadly, bombers and attackers could not locate them as they were a titanium line of impending doom! loaded with Credit Card Round that would swipe even the strongest of frontal armor on any of the heaviest tanks! | In 1945 the crews of the Ridge Wallet were cramped and had back pain due to the poor conditions it offered for the crew, so the majority of crews ultimately lost to surrendering. | The Allies located the blueprints in a German Bunker and reconstructed the Ridge Wallet on a smaller scale, the 1950s came around and the US figured out how to make Credit Card Round, the whole US was swiping the heaviest of armor the ATMs prevailed for them, it was revolutionary!
Imagine being one of the soldiers that fought Germany and got hit by that last tank's bullet... I mean, look at the size of that bullet... It's like getting hited by a medium sized submarine in the air with extremely high power
@@SpackJarow well I know that already but not every shot wouldn't hit to it's target and may actually hit a person... And your example consists humans in a city so there is a impossible rate that you will never get hit by that accidentally or even targeted. Just Saying.
"Some historians believe that if enough of them had been produced and deployed, maus tanks could have changed the outcome of WWII" German logistics, a lack of oil, allied air superiority and just going around the giant slow tank would suggest why its only some historians
Youd be surprised how good the tank was. Firstly, if it was deployed on the Western side it could easily crush through anything thrown at it, thanks to its huge armour. (Only to the Soviets it would have been a slight problem. Since the ISU with HE rounds could take it out). Second part is the "going around it", which would do nothing, byod be wasting time while the crew inside would be laughing at you. Thirdly the "drop a bomb" arguement on it. It could work but, if its unstoppable it can go right through enemy lines, opening up the possibility of massive friendly fire. The bomb would have to be huge to blow a crater in it and the bomb would have to effectively be dropped right on the tank. Put enough flak variants of this tank together with it and you effectively have a fortress, in a fortress. The flak cannons could blow up bombs as they are coming down while the original maus can focus on the land targets. All this is assuming if Germany didnt have any problems with logistics at near end of the war obviously
On the drop a bomb point, its slow as all hell. You're not gonna have a friendly fire incident. It wasnt unstoppable either. Its tracks are a huge target so immobilising the maus isn't going to be hard, making it an easy target for allied/soviet aircraft and heavy arty. On the "unstoppable" point. Lets assume the Germans deployed it and magically they were able to supply a proper panzer division and their famously terrible logistics wasn't a problem, it would just speed up allied development of better tanks and/or shells which they were doing anyways but as the war was already won they didnt have a need to. Also, given how much it weighed, good like getting over any river, so its certainly not getting to the western front anytime soon.
They should have just mass produced an efficient Pz. IV but up armored and an improved engine and transmission, some improved 7.5 cm guns for a new turret design, and better crew layout. Simple, have some lighter tanks and some heavier, some tank destroyers, and improvements added fittingly and maybe things would be better. Idk I’m not smart but thats what I would do
I'm always amazed how Germany after ww1 in that short period of time gained so much money and even simple men soldiers to invade whole Europe, Churchill, Americans and French left Poland by itself and then Hitler started to gain more and more, how they managed to gain resources after ww1?

You have to think that the artillery would have been so far back behind enemy lines that it couldn't really be seen for a day or two of traveling. But I see what you mean.
My question is, why is Donald loading the gun??

|
|

"Some historians believe that if enough of them had been produced and deployed, maus tanks could have changed the outcome of WWII"
German logistics, a lack of oil, allied air superiority and just going around the giant slow tank would suggest why its only some historians
Quantity won the day on all fronts, not who had the scariest superweapon. Sorry I mean gigantic target for aircraft and artillery.
@@freejones9129 and in the case of Germany, numbers were useless if the tanks had no fuel
