    I have the original Pro Tools session for this song somewhere. I will have to dig it up and solo those tracks. If I can still open sessions that old. I think this was when we were still using OS 9 and SDII audio files. In the final mix only a kick and snare were used for drums, but there's a lot more drum tracks in it that just went unused (which was a great production decision).

    One of the best songs out there. Wonderful that a song with some different rhythms and time signatures would be such a hit. Thanks Anthony for briging us a little of the inner workings of genius. . Also, the passing of Quincy is a sad event. Such a marvelous talent who brought us the sound of the 80's. RIP!

    Another excellent tutorial, Anthony. I am reminded of how much the tuba is utilized in a Mexican musical style known as banda, a kind of Polka/Oompah hybrid popularized by Mexican groups that adopted it from European immigrants that is so popular among the L.A. immigrant population we live among.
    The melody sound reminds me of what Vangelis utilized for the melody in "Alpha", for Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" series.
    As far as Mr Jones goes, just heard about it from the comments here.
    What a tremendous loss. We have the "We Are the World" on VHS, and have admired all of the projects, musicians and artists he was involved with from Leslie Gore to the present, as well as his own projects, from the more popular songs "Soul Bossa Nova", "The Secret Garden", and "Tomorrow(A Better You, Better Me)". To quote a Pink Floyd song title, he has now joined many former colleagues for a "Great Gig in the Sky".

    Even though you can’t always believe what you see, I’m not terribly surprised to be informed that the accompaniment for this song was done using only one synthesizer. Even though the guy mining the keyboard part in the music video is seen with two different Rhodes piano models and a MIDI controller, a trace of realism is retroactively added to that staging.

  • @CasioChaosTheory
    @CasioChaosTheory 2 місяці тому +2

    @8:14 where you are recreating the short melody hook line, in the actual promo video the character "Benjamin Andre" is "playing" the part on a Casio SA-67! Of course, what appears in a video doesn't mean that is what was played on the actual recording. BUT, it does sound very much like a flute preset as found in many small Casios. And it wouldn't be the first time a Casio was used to play a lead melody in a hit song, as heard in the Human League's "Open Your Heart"! You've already shown us that the Thriller "Frog" bass sound came from a Casiotone home keyboard (on top of an ARP 2600) , and it would so cool if Outkast did actually play that melody in Hey Ya on a little Casio as well!
    And of course, RIP Quincy Jones. What a great loss to the music world 😢
