What are you talking about mate? The "Hippies" were the people openly protesting the war and largely also supporting the CRM, both of which were good things. The major issues that arose were the result of Conservatives rallying against change and preventing necessary policies and social growth for a very long time, and they still do.
Not only that but the world is fucked because of extremely conservative attitudes combined with ravid consumerism, and the failure of basically anyone to listen to the shit people kept warning them about. The Vietnam War was precisely a result of these attitudes and the fear of change anywhere in the world (because Pax Americana is the only option for such people), leaving millions dead over what? The massively corrupt Southern Vietnamese government, that seemed from the era of French colonial authority, the Southerners ended up hating so much they eventually turned on them and let the Northerners in? No shit people turned against it when kids were getting hit by chemical warfare and dying for no reason whatsoever.
Islamic Extremism exists because of American and British foreign policies since the 1950s, environmental issues are the result of the consumption boom shortly after this and massively upscaled industry revolving around shortlived products and the highly unsustainable corporate that emerged, which has fucked all kinds of things through incessant and uncompromising short term profiteering at a total cost to sustainability.
The 90s were widely regarded as one of the best times to live, why? Because shit was actually somewhat starting to change, until 9/11 (which was likely funded by the Saudi's and again was a result of American foreign policies in the Middle East encouraging Islamic Extremism) at which point all that progress was set back by decades because of politicians using it as a stepping stool and a political tool despite being a tragedy to learn from.
"Hippies" were people who were fed up with the way the world was, if you think the 50s were good with all the shit happening abroad and the recession of 1958 which was largely the result of Eisenhower's "modern republicanism".
The Hippies were people who were fed up of that shit, the oppressive and inherently unegalitarian cultural zeitgeist, and the lack of real change in the world. That's what happens when you kick people down for long enough, a counter culture period emerges, same thing happened recently as a backlash to decades of Conservatism impacting a variety of people.
The late 2000s across the world was shit because people were still reeling from the "Great Recession" , which was largely the result of a mismanaged American economy the chain reaction of which turned into an issue for the global market, by the Bush left to the opposition, who struggled to deal with it until around that period. So if economic recovery and some progressive policies are shit by your reckoning, don't know what to say there.
The major shitty parts of 2012 were mass shootings, which is an issue arising from decades of mental health problems in the American population being ignored or outright vilified and far too many guns that are far too easy to get.
Now if you are talking culturally, the counter culture that arose around that time and is peaking now was directly the result of the shit that went on in the 2000s, like the Iraq War, the economic fuckery, and a shift in the cultural zeitgeist in the opposite direction.
Blaming the "Hippies" is odd, because they had NOWHERE near as much influence as Corporate Conservatism on the modern Cultural environment

at this point they didn't break up, they both had a different art style and each one got their own side to the album. One side was Andre 3000 and the other half was Big Boi. Plus Andre 3000 went and did a little acting as Big Boi put it. They were into different things musically and still made it work for this album. I think they did eventually break up years later after Idlewild (2006 ish).

I remember first hearing this song as a kid (around 6-7 years old) when I moved with just my mom and my older sister to Houston from mexico temporarily. And my sister and I heard this song playing while we were building small furniture pieces from ikea in our new apartment to create a nice place to stay.
