I use this method too for ScaleTrains and other brands except Kato as you mentioned. A couple of tips for anyone using the method, put a lid on the container, when ready to open, go outside!! The fumes will knock you over!! haha To save the IPA, I use an automotive paint filter and pour the used IPA thru it, this will filter out all the peeled paint items. For Kato, I sand blast the paint off.

Thanks for the tutorial. I got several Blue Box kits with mismatched loco models that never appeared on the roadname that they came with. I've gotten one done so far and it came out great! Keep up the great work!

You can also put a couple big clean rocks in if they fit. They take up space and you won't need as much alcohol.

What about glass marbles to take up the space or blind baking ceramic balls.

I let it soak 48 hours and it only removed 15% of the paint what do you recommend next They were all ( 4 ) SD40-2 Athearn I have scrubbed it with a tooth brush but 85 % is still there What now?

Sweet! I did that to my SD(P)45 and it was hard to tell when I had took paint off because, it was an old Athearn and the shell was black with the SF pinstripe scheme on it. Now it sets there in O/W.

Cool, i did not no that is how you strip it down, putting it in a big thing of alcohol, U should repaint it into a Conrail, Even if it would not be realistic but VERY, VERY Cool. Another Fantasy Scheme, Looks good, u do great work.

Hello NS, good job. One additional tip is to use soap that doesn't have any lanolin or moisturizers in it that will leave a thin film on the surface. Plain Ivory or Dawn works well. What type of camera did you use to shoot this video?

That's a great tutorial on removing paint off models, now tell me please, that alcohol is I'm assuming INDUSTRIAL ! isn't it !!! & was there any drawbacks to your method ! Oh & btw I use an old shaving brush when washing my models in sap as its soft yet firm & gets everywhere

    • @nsmodeler24

It is 91% Isypropyl alcohol, which is very dangerous if consumed, so yet you could consider it industrial. No draw backs that I've found yet!

What a stupid move. Cant really put it nicer then that, or there a reason to say much more then that. I know this was done years ago, but lets take a limited run retro paint job that anyone with foresight will know be worth something to collectors, strip it, and then paint it up to a generic modern paint scheme that will be easily available in the future. This is more of a disappoint video then it is an educational one. I also feel you used this example of paint scheme just so people would click, and for that I down vote you. Even if it was all you could get you still get one for taking out a collectors scheme.
