- Settlers 3 was released in 1998, the sequel to what is now generally seen as something of a fan favorite of the total of seven main Settlers titles, although maybe at the time that wasn’t as clear as it became with hindsight. In this video I’ll be analyzing the GOG version of Settlers 3, called the Ultimate Collection also known as the Gold Edition and I will be asking the question...is it a classic?

If you are Settlers 3 fan you need to test Settlers United. It is a very well done fan-remake, with many bugs fixed, modern multiplayer, high resolution and many other updates that gets this game a new life.

I love the sound effect when swords clashes and when they go "Hiiiyaaa!" XD Just imagine in real life when romance and greek would fight and the sound they would make from striking would be "Eeehaiyaa!" xD
This game is so good, watching those guys working and getting lost in the world is mesmerizing. I could spent hours just following these guys as they deliver the food around.
I hear ya, but in terms of watching the people do their work, Knights and Merchants is my choice.
I played this so much when it came out. Even had the expansion discs. Online multiplayer is where I spend most of my time. Talking with people in the chat room before going into a game. Good memories.
Yes. Classic is when it has a so strong identity that you wanna play it again over newer versions.
I agree, love Settlers 3, love the cutscenes, economy. The combat is actually pretty dull, but buildung up your teritory is a treat!

Settlers 3 is one of those games where I'm like "oh yeah I guess it makes sense that there is a 3rd one when there is a 4th one." which is code for: I never played it and I never heard about it.
And a 5th, a 6th and even a 7th! They were working on a remake/reboot till like last year, but it kinda got shitcanned.
A classic for sure, but it's still missing a speed up option.

Subjective classic. I was too young to play Settlers 2, but did play AOE II, so the 'rts-ization' of the Settlers 3 actually made it welcome and familiar to me. At the time though, it sounds like the heart of Settlers was a bit dumbed down for this 3rd installment.

This is one of the first PC games I played on my Pentium II and I downloaded it on GOG about 5 years ago. I just got a new laptop and redownloaded it again and bought Settlers 4 which I haven't played a whole lot of.
It is definitely a classic in my eyes.
Then that what I call a subjective classic, it is a classic for you personally as opposed to a classic in general, or objectively. That's the difference I make between smth that has personal importance and smth that has general importance to video gaming at large.
I havnt played this game but it sounds like the other ones would be classics based on what you said about them!

You most likely would want to get the original Settlers 2 for your old school collection.
The Settlers franchise is definitely a classic, especially Settlers 2, 3, 4. Settlers 7 is also a very good game, but not in a classic, nostalgic way. I just started playing Settlers 3 and see why it is regarded to be on par with Warcraft 3 or the older Command and Conquer games.
hello sorry can I ask how do you still play settlers 3? because I have the original one but it doesn't work, they told me that my computer is powerful compared to past years and it doesn't read it even if installed? what did you do?

Can't say I had. You might want to check out the GOG Settler 3 forums and see if anyone else has encountered this issue.
I simply love this game because it marked my childhood but unfortunately the game crashes on certain occasions and that I find unbearable. Maybe it's because I have Windows 10 and the game doesn't handle my system very well. It's very frustrating because I have some old games that never gave me a problem.
Are you playing the GOG version and having these issues?
@@StefaNonsense Yes, I bought it from GOG games. I went for the nostalgia and unfortunately I was disappointed. Lucky for me, the game is pretty cheap. The game freezes at random times but there are times when you capture the enemy's tower and the game simply crashes. It's no use saving.
That is very weird, I also played the GOG version and haven't had any issues. Have you checked the GOG forums about it? Sometimes if a problem is common there are fixes or workarounds shared on the forums

I'm playing The Settlers till this day with dosbox, tbh I was not impressed by Settlers 2, I dont remember why. Settlers 3 was great, I remember lack of roads was a bummer at first. Got my hands on Settlers IV and one newer title but I've lost interest in the series, I don't like new changes at all.
I played every Settler, Currently, my fav ones are Settler 3 and 4, 2 is also not bad, it is really good! And if you havn't tried these games, you should, you are missing a lot!
Also, I have seen some stuff about the new Settlers coming up and it's absoulute shit...it's like a combination of Settlers 3 and Settlers 4 but the stuff which made S 3 and S 4 fun got taken out lmfao

I bought this on GOG and I couldn't get into it. I recommend Knights & Merchants, far superior game.
It's a different beast from K&M which I also covered btw -- ua-cam.com/video/NmTXIJkS__M/v-deo.html -- However, there's way more Settlers that came after this which added and enhanced mechanics, while K&M was never truly finished per se, since there's no merchants to be seen anywhwere 😆 Thanks for watching!
It's such a shitty and clunky game at times but I still play and enjoy it. It wouldn't work if it wasn't one of my first games.

If the OG resolution is still playable, I'll generally roll with it, I didn’t mod it on purpose to get as close to a time-appropriate experience as possible.
Its what makes games fun when there are no sense. Nothing to prove. Lets just do it. Like imagine 3 countries find a brand new island and now we gonna prove what the f we suppose to prove. That we king of this island? xD
