    I played a "pirated" version that used to always crash at around the point where you'd be getting your tools... used to try and save just before that moment, only to have a few more minutes to play until it mercilessly crashed every single time. that's how much I loved this game as a kid.

      Harsh history, but I get it. I used to play the first few missions of Knights and Merchants as well, since I could never get past the barbarian invasion one :)

    Great tempo in the video! I have never played or even heard of any of the Anno games, and this video helped me get an understanding of the series. The message was well made and done super well! Good job Stefan!

    Funny you mention the 14 year old you.. I was 14 when I first got 1602, and that was in either 2000 or 2001. Been playing it off and on since then. In fact, I just played a continuous play not long ago. Got an island to over 2,000 aristocrats.

      I think i had around 2800 aristocrats on a very mountany island in continous mode. Gotta get the cathedral building at 2500 people on island.

    Great video! I didn't play the earlier Anno games and was introduced to it from a friend who gave me one of the later games.
    I really liked it and ya combat can be a bit weird even in the newer games but that city building aspect is super fun!
    This video makes me want to try the early ones now :)
    Thanks for the video and the small Unreal cameo was nice too :P

      @@StefaNonsense Super awesome ^^ Thank you!
      It was the game that sparked my passion but imagine if Anno was given to me instead. What different path would I have led I wonder.

    • @StefaNonsense

      Maybe it would have been different or maybe not. From my pov, I started playing platformers, FPSs and whatever else I had available for me on my first computer but my tastes and preferences developed over time, so it is possible that the starting point has very little to do with the journey :)

    I loved 1602 and would spend hours playing it and I sometimes still go back to do just that. Once I got a hold of 1503, I still managed to find myself going back to play 1602 every now and then. Never touched much of 1701 despite owning it but from my understanding it was more or less just an improved 1602 yet not as complex as 1503 was yet I still choose to play 1602 over it lol.
    I do love 1404 as well and have spent most my time on that since the first two but I've never gone past that point. Thought maybe trying 1800 in the future but the first four have kept me pretty content with the series. I still remember when fires broke out before I had a fire department or a plague and I have yet to build a doctor on 1602 I would just save and load so they would be gone, problem solved!
    Unsure if that was ever fixed but even if it was then deleting the building in question and replacing it had the same results. Nice video though, definitely brought a smile to my face to see someone else love the game.

    I've been playing Anno games on and off for years and I say it is still worth playing. 1602 is relatively simple to the 1503 offering but the atmosphere and satisfaction from building and planning is still very much there. The graphics are still pleasant to look at and very colorful though a bit low resolution. I wouldn't mind some graphical upscale or redrawing the assetts like a remaster then it'd be perfect.

      If you look on my channel you'll find my videos on the other historical Anno titles - except for 1800. Personally I think 1404 is the best honed of them.

    I never knew that Anno was a series until recently. I played 1602 growing up, and the installation we had on the family computer had a 50% chance of crashing any time we entered combat 😂. I played 1800 recently hoping it was a spiritual successor to 1602 just to find out it’s a literal successor to 1602 lol. That said, I put 1602 on my laptop since it’s such a lightweight game, and have great fun playing it when I don’t have access to my desktop. I personally enjoy the combat aspect, it adds more strategy which is something I enjoy. Also in Continuous Play (not sure about the scenarios), the AI progress on is based on your own so you don’t have to worry about being way too slow!

      Hey Tim, glad you found the video - I have covered the other historic ANNO titles as well, stick around and check my backlog for other city builders as well. I have some weird personal and uber-subjective requirements from city-builders, I won't just play everything, as you can tell when you look through my backlog. For whatever reason, games set in the modern era - like SimCity or Cities Skylines - interest me less than zero. While I love me some sci-fi, in terms of city building, I tend to prefer post-apocalyptic settings or survival colony-type games, as opposed to "humans in space", so the futuristic ANNOs never appealed to me for those reasons. Btw, I think I might have listened to your Stranger Things Synth Remix some time ago, can't be sure :)

    Didn't play the Anno games....at the time of Anno 1602's appearance I installed a demo from the Level magazine CD ( or maybe it was a pirated copy?) but it didn't look as good or as fun as Caesar 3 or Pharaoh just a short while later, which I played for many hours.

    I never played Anno, but this looks like an interesting series. I assume, from what you say on the video, that the most recent ones are not necessarily the most enjoyable?

    • @StefaNonsense
      @StefaNonsense  2 роки тому +3

      Haven't played the super recent ones, because they're sci-fi and also fuck-Ubisoft :) But if you want to play an Anno title my suggestion is playing 1404, check out that video for reasons why :)

      The first two were made by the same Austrian studio. After that the titles are made by other studios and the series gets bought by Shittysoft, and I didn’t care that much to look into where those studios are located.

    • @hundinger1

      @@StefaNonsense Bluebyte is located in Mainz and it is still the same studio that made 1404 etc. In this case the Ubisoft purchase was a good thing. I mean, look at Anno 1800. No way you can make that without a very big budget.

    I wouldn't say playing from the oldest to the newest is playing in "reverse order", specially because the order that comes in mind when you just throw that, is the release order, thus you would actually playing in the correct order 🧐

    • @StefaNonsense
      @StefaNonsense  2 роки тому

      Can't say I understand what you mean. I started with Anno 1701: The Sunken Dragon (original release date 2006), then I played Anno 1401 (original release date 2009), after that it was Anno 1503 (original release date 2002) and finally Anno 1602 (original release date 1998 in the EU). Any way you look at it, there is no order to how I played them, except to say, I played them starting with the arguably "newer" titles as far as release dates go, going back to the older ones.

    those 2d games are great and optimized for video cards that have 8MB of RAM.. they look beautiful with hand-drawn graphics..
    unlike the 3D ones of nowadays are total waste of computing power and being too ugly and dizzy to look at..

      Interesting trivia about my gaming history: I never had anything bigger than 1 or 2 Megs of video memory for the 2000-2004 period - till the very end of 2004 when I could finally purchase a current-for-then PC, out of my own money.
