I totally agree with what you say at 7:15 and how you see/feel it in almost anything we see today, how "make the target group bigger by doing X+X+X+X" and what you then get in the end has no soul anymore (more on that after my short movie QQ)
For expample: We know that Batman is cool and someone wanted to make Catwomen, but it didnt work because even though some girls want to be heros and some guys like to see a girl in a tight dress... Batman works because guys love it -> target audience fail -> movie fail
Female Ghostbuster? WHY? Since when do girls like spooky stuff and slime and..... I MEAN... WHY?
Now they took MAN in Black and replaced Will Smith with a Women... WHY?
Lets better not start with Star Wars, because there are tons of reviews out there that talk about this.
But Settlers? I mean 3 is almost perfect and the artstyle is timeless. They could've added more options (but that could've made it to complex for most players to handle).
I mean maybe add more production chains like Anno 1404 did compared to the older titles... but those games are almost perfect.
Five, six and seven dumbed the game down, because gaming needed to become mainstream, but they lost the main reason WHY the game was special.
Now they made a new version... no number, just Settlers (why would you do that?) and we get champions against, so you have a "less violent" way to win the game.... like those people who cant handle the "fighting" in Settlers (because the artstyle looks to real?) cant play SimCity (who also failed... and lost anything to Skylines).
I wish they would make a Settlers like this one again... i also love the 3d version of the second one. Just make it like this.. maybe add more tech (more rocks and let us build walls... like a slow, cute age of empires without the jumps to the next age). Maybe horses? Guns that are hard to make and load SUPER SLOW, so it isnt really an option to mass them? (the first ideas that i just came up with)

Still playing in 2020 for nostalgia. Long gone are the days playing an online ranked game with dial up internet, hoping to beat your opponent before your internet disconnected and they get the easy win 😝
