UPDATE: *I've passed my written with a 85% and am now 20 hours into my PPL training, already soloed and have some IFR/VOR time. now onto my Cross Country time building!* what a great video :)

Just starting my EASA PPL 30hrs in already and your videos have been a great help to me.
I feel there is an urban legend being spread in these videos, there is a reference to "lights at night", which is partially true. The yellow areas are the Urban Area limit lines, while they have light at night they unfortunately haven't been updated in most places in the USA for over 40+ YEARS. This makes for a terrible navigation aid given urban sprawl in some locations. I called and talked to the FAA directly about this as I am an urban GIS Analyst and had to discuss why our airport was so outdated. They mentioned they are "response based" and not proactive. So if you or your fellow pilots notice errors on your VFR charts it's important to contact the FAA and request they update your area. In the future they plan to use the Census TIGER Urban Areas for increased accuracy, but that still doesn't include skydive drop point changes (or other changes) so keep an eye out and lets all help keep these charts as accurate as possible :)

You also need to remember that the VFR Sectionals at Sky Vector (et al) are not always current for airspace and obstacles. The aviator must update this information with the Chart Supplement Chart Bulletins section.

Great video. Thanks for posting. I knew about supplemental oxygen at night above 5,000 MSL but never heard using above 5,000 feet density altitude.
Density is a bit more what you're concerned with. That's how much oxygen is really in the air you're breathing. Height MSL is just a pointless number when it comes to performance of the plane and yourself.

Hi Jon -Thank You for the fantastic informative videos. My question is what open (air to air) frequency do you use when flying in class E and G air space? 122.8? Assuming you do not have flight following. Thanks Rob
Believe it or not....one doesn't really exist for true (airspace without a frequency assigned). 123.45 is air to air for things like formation flights. But as far as you see an airplane approaching in Class E or G airspace and want to call up to them to make them aware of your position, there isn't a frequency for that.

Wow my house in colorado is higher than 5000 ft and i usually don't need supplemental O2 at night. Seems like an odd reg considering our local field kbdu lies at 5288 msl.
Some airports are hard to find at night in or near towns.
Could you please share me what is the name of that system using ? Or any famed system for flight plan as general ? Thx guys in advance

I was using skyvector, seems to be one of the easiest to use with the most other "layers" available
How do you fly through airspace’s?
Florida has a lot of Restricted and MOA zones....how often do you get to fly direct to your destination during the day when the direct route would go through these?
You cannot fly through the dimensions of a restricted airspace without getting permission from the controlling agency. If the airspace is not active you should be cleared through. With MOA's you can fly through without needing clearance.

From a non pilot. That blue area in the middle marked restricted airspace, is that ok to fly through?
You can fly into restricted airspace as long as you have clearance from the controlling agency.
