I remember the first time I heard this song. I was sitting at the kitchen table about 2 am. I had the radio playing. I lost my son to an IED in Afghanistan. I was missing him so bad and had my service pistol in my mouth. The song finished I picked up my sons Bible and started reading. This song saved my life.
I’m glad you put that gun down. I’m glad you’re still here. Gulf War veteran here; I had a rough time when I came home. PTSD and the bottle almost had me picking up a pistol too. My loving father brought me back to myself in his quiet and gentle way. He showed me that the world was still good. I’m so sorry for your loss and will always be grateful for your son. Don’t give up.
Thank God you had your radio on and thank God you did NOT pull that trigger. The sadness of your son's death would be compounded if it lead to your death also. You will be in my prayers.
I played this for my son's funeral 😢. He was 13 when he passed. I love and miss you Joseph... Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. This song always brings me peace, for I know my daddy, brother and son is all up in heaven smiling down on me.

Vince Gill has the voice of an angel, I could listen to him all day. This song makes me think of a youth pastor I had when I was young. He passed away in 1999 I cry when I hear this song.
Heartbroken for you. My brother and I had been playing ball in a neighbor's yard when he was 13 and I was 9. He was hit and killed by a drunk driver. He wasn't even in the road. He was beside it and this drunk ran out of the road and killed him. When something like that happens, you are instantly changed forever. I'm grown now with 2 grown sons of my own and as a parent, I can not begin to imagine how my parents survived that. I grieve for you my friend and I pray that GOD's amazing grace surrounds and comforts you. GOD bless !
My friend, real men cry real tears... you are more of a man, a man with a real heart, than some will ever be! I’m so sorry for the loved ones you’ve lost, including your dog. My dog is old and I see him changing... I’ve lost a sister too. So much loss. But they are not LOST when we know where they are! God Bless you! 🧚🏻♀️🍁🍂
You thank “us” for requesting.....but we thank you for listening and letting us watch your reaction. This doing touches many - even those that may not “do country”.
There is also a version of Vince and Patty Loveless singing this on stage I think after George Jones passed away, Vince cried threw the whole song, but got through, it was so emotional and beautiful at the same time, watching Patty and the crowd pull Vince through!
I wanted my brother to sing this song at our Dad's funeral, but he said it would be too hard for him. Instead, he played a recording of an original song that he wrote called "Father to Father". He had to record because he knew he couldn't get thru it otherwise.
As the oldest child when it came time to organize my Pop's funeral it fell to me. I chose this song and it brought so many to their milk and really honored him...
All I had to do was think of this song & I'm crying. Lost my son, my best friend,my only child New Year's to covid19.They couldn't figure out what it was yet. Anyway he had strong strong faith. I've not been able to listen to this angelic rendition since.Vince can pull heart strings. If you can find him at Chicago Blues Fest with Eric Clapton you'll see what a guitarist he is. It's July 4th y'all please be safe as you can.🇺🇸. Y'all also remember this country is worth changing to save it.
I cry every time I hear this song. I lost my brother in 2022. He didn't smoke, or drink didn't have an ounce of fat on his body, was always active, no family history. Stage 4 colon cancer. Get checked! He was only 63. Left a wife, 4 kids, 9 grandkids. Breaks my heart! He was a great human!
The most beautiful memorial song ever written! If you don’t cry, you don’t have a heart. I have lost both parents, my father when I was 33 and my mama at 42. I cry every time I hear this...
my friend we need this more than anything right now. We are losing our brothers and our family. I don't see color but I know we have so many problems in our country. And if we don't come together as brothers and sisters, regardless of our color, we will be mourning as we sing this songs for our loved ones. God Bless my friend. May we all unite as a family and loved ones...
This song really hits home for me. I lost a younger brother suddenly just a couple of weeks before Christmas six years ago. He went through a lot in his life but just as he was seeing light at the end of his tunnel his time on Earth was done. A blood clot stopped his heart and he passed away at the age of 45.
My first time hearing this was a year ago at a friend of mine daughter's funeral, she died of cancer she was just 23 so I think of her whenever I hear this song! So beautiful!
The two most powerful loves in life are a sister and a dog. Heavy stuff. It's daunting the amount of tragedy everyone has experienced, just know you aren't alone. Nothing can take away the pain but time. All we can do is honor their memory the way they would want us to and pray for the days when time has made our wounds less harsh.
I am so sorry about your sweet sister and your dog. I don't really have siblings, but I lost my eldest son, Patton in July of this year. He was just 26. He died doing what he loved, snorkeling, in the river he loved. I will never get over my baby's death. He left behind a wonderful wife, a 5 yr old little boy & another little boy due in November that will never know what a wonderful man his Daddy was. I understand that heartbreak, & I will pray mightily for you & your sister. 😢💔🙏
Tami, I am so sorry for your loss. To extend your condolences to Jamal on his loss, when you're experiencing your own, is truly amazing. This shows me that those two sweet little boys will know their father, through the love of their grandmother and mother for the love of a son and a husband. And, the enduring love of a father who may not be seen, but most certainly will be felt. Love knows no limits, and is eternal. God bless.
Tami, those two babies will keep Patton alive in your hearts 💕. My heart breaks for your loss. I will keep you all in my prayers during these tough months. One thing that helps me as I just lost my sister on July 30th suddenly is that they are in a way better place. It just hurts to let them go from our lives for now. Blessings.
Tami so so sorry for your loss and the pain you are now in. I feel your son wants you to know that he is OK and will always watch over you and his loving family. You are all in my prayers.
My husband died 11 years ago and I had this song played at his funeral. When I listened to it just now I think I cried almost as much as I did 11 years ago. Home Free does a really good job on this song but Vince's version is THE VERSION. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction to this beautiful song. BTW, it seemed you were struggling to know what to say after you heard this song. I think the very BEST reaction might be NO reaction because it said you were so moved you were speechless...and that's a good thing.
This and "Tears In Heaven" by Eric Clapton gets to me every time I hear them. "Tears In Heaven" is about Eric Clapton's little boy who fell from their hotel room window. How blessed songwriters are, to be able to deal with their grief through their music!
There are many versions but this has always been my fav. Alison Krauss has the most angelic of voices and adding Ricky Skaggs equals perfect harmony. Sending you such a big hug, friend!
I am sorry for your loss. No parent should have to bury their child. When my sister died the pain I seen in my dad's face and heard in his voice was more than I could bear. I told everyone I don't ever want to feel that level of pain
It's the song not who sings it listen to the words that's how you listen to country not who sings it the best!!! Dont make me regret watching and listening to this!!!
My condolences to you my friend. I lost my younger brother 3 years ago (he would be 42 now) and this gets me in the heart every time I hear it...the tears they do flow like a river.
Jamel, you are a delight and I can’t help but smile with joy every time I watch your videos. You make some of my old favorites new again. But seeing you overcome with so much emotion in this one broke my heart 💔. May God bless you and keep you. Thank you for sharing your love of music and your humble gentle spirit with us all. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏾
It's heart wrenching every time. I commented on Home Free's version and Vince Gill actually sent me a message about it. What an awesome song and keep up the reactions on here. You're awesome at what YOU do.
You touched my heart when your heart was touched by this. I don’t know you. But I love you. Everyone needs to be told that they are loved. I’m glad you enjoyed this. You are loved!
Loss of a loved one is one of the hardest things you will ever have to deal with, but it's something we all share in common, tears in the eye means love in your heart. Had to check this out because it made Jamel's top 20. Worth it.
Thank you for sharing this song. This was one of the songs played at my son’s funeral six years ago! Another song I chose for his funeral was “I Will Rise” by Chris Tomlin.
He sings another great song called "Whenever you come around" Love your channel! It's funny, at a time when our world is so divided, music somehow magically brings us together.
It's hard not to shed a tear hearing this... Faces of my loved ones who have passed flash thru my mind. ... I'm sorry about your sisters passing. Another good one is by Brad Paisley "when I get where I'm goin" God bless!!
That Brad Paisley song is wonderful -- great suggestion. If you want a more joyous, spiritual-style song about loss from country legends, check out the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Friends doing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" with Johnny Cash, Ricky Scaggs, Roy Acuff, Emmylou Harris, and more (ua-cam.com/video/7bRJLkNqNXI/v-deo.html).
John Gregg Tears are cleansing.... I loved my Mama so much... I didn't cry either.. I sent the part of me away that couldn't stand the pain... I didn't think she would ever be back... I cry now .... for all the time I couldn't.. Gods blessings on you
Such a powerful song!! Simple and heartfelt. Absolute tear-jerker!! I appreciate Vince Gill for writing this captivating and beautiful song!! It has helped me with losses that I have encountered.
I lost my 34 year old son to cancer 3/04/22. I heard this song for the first time a few days after and burst into tears in front of a full room of people. Very personal to me now.
I did not know this... Thanks for the knowledge. Jamel... Please watch this clip of Keith Whitley singing "I Never Go Around Mirrors", written by Lefty Frizzell. It's one of the saddest country songs ever written or sung. ua-cam.com/video/Vezn9t7n3hM/v-deo.html
One of my favorite songs. This is a major tearjerker song. I don’t know how he managed to keep from breaking down when he was singing the song. After all, it was written towards the memory of his brother!
Thank you for playing this! So beautiful!! Thank you for your heartfelt reaction too. Not easy to listen to without feeling the old pain of the passing of a loved one.
My father passed in November of 2019. I spoke at his service and it was the hardest thing I had ever done. This was one of the songs he requested to be played. I can't make it three notes into this song. I can't talk for 5 minutes after it's done. I love it. It uplifts and hurts so much at the same time.
This song gets to me. When my uncle died with cancer in 2003, I lost my best friend. I never hear this song without thinking of him. I miss you Uncle Paul. I still haven’t gotten over the loss of you, your laughter, your advice, your wisdom, your guidance, and your way of making everything seem possible. I love you. I’ll see you one day.
Blain Stutts You will see him again Blain. Don't ever lose faith in that hope. Your Uncle Paul was a lucky man to have someone like you love him so much. You can't see him at the moment but everything else about him is with you, deep inside. Death can never take that away. It's just a door that he's walked through and you, me and everyone else will walk through it one day and be together on the other side. In the meantime be strong my friend and be the man your Uncle Paul wanted you to be. His love for you is still there, meaningful and very much alive, and no force on this earth can ever take it away from you. Wish I could be there to see the reunion.

I've heard it for decades and never appreciated it so strongly as with my brother's death in Oct. I always wanted to sing harmony with him to this song but had to sing solo when he passed away. He'll always be with me.

GOD bless !
On my goodness. What an horrible tragedy. God bless you. 💞🙏✌
I lost my brother to a drunk driver in 1995. I am so sorry for your loss
I know your pain, my twin brother was lost to a drunk driver when we were 16. I've spent my whole life with part of me missing.
So very very sorry for your loss.
I had this played at my son’s funeral. It will forever hold a very place in my heart. I love it!💕
You thank “us” for requesting.....but we thank you for listening and letting us watch your reaction.
This doing touches many - even those that may not “do country”.
This Song Was Amazing🙏🏾
Well said..
I know you feel the loss of a family member. I'm huggin' you, brother.
There is also a version of Vince and Patty Loveless singing this on stage I think after George Jones passed away, Vince cried threw the whole song, but got through, it was so emotional and beautiful at the same time, watching Patty and the crowd pull Vince through!
We had this played at my Dad’s funeral this year. Lost my Mom last year and my Son so this song means a lot. Sorry for your loss of your Sister. 😢🙏🏻
I am very sorry for your losses. God bless you and touch and bring healing to your heart.
I wanted my brother to sing this song at our Dad's funeral, but he said it would be too hard for him. Instead, he played a recording of an original song that he wrote called "Father to Father". He had to record because he knew he couldn't get thru it otherwise.
Bless u
this song always drives me to my knees. Momma loves and misses you, Ashley Rachel. you should be 37 years old. forever 14 months.
God bless her soul
I am sorry for your great loss. God bless and keep you.
It’s been almost a year since I lost my son. I think I was meant to find your reaction today. Thank you.
So sorry for your loss.
May god bless his soul
Thank you
I cry every time I hear this song.
So sorry for your loss!
This song was played at my fallen brothers funerals, this song gets me everytime. Till Valhalla brothers
Agreed
Hooah to all our fallen. We shall see them again one day
Semper Fi
The most beautiful memorial song ever written! If you don’t cry, you don’t have a heart. I have lost both parents, my father when I was 33 and my mama at 42. I cry every time I hear this...
Thats quite the compliment. Two of my most favorite people in the whole world!
I could feel the impact of of this song on you
Music bonds us all regardless of color creed nationality or gender
Bless you
my friend we need this more than anything right now. We are losing our brothers and our family. I don't see color but I know we have so many problems in our country. And if we don't come together as brothers and sisters, regardless of our color, we will be mourning as we sing this songs for our loved ones. God Bless my friend. May we all unite as a family and loved ones...
Thank you Pete so beautifully said.
Amen and Amen brother!!
🙏🏾
I’m so very sorry....your sister will forever be with you 🙏
Remember the sweet love surrounding you now 💜
Three amazingly great artists right there on stage together. All three are extremely talented musicians. Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, and Alison Krauss.
Our son passed away almost 10 years ago and We had it played at his life remembered service. It still gives me chills and is so beautiful!
Man!! I’m a grown ass man and this song breaks me up every time. We dedicated to my brother that passed. RIP to your sister🙏🏼 new sub here!
This song was played at my Father's funeral, I tear up every time I hear it. On his tombstone we had inscribed "Go Rest High on That Mountain"
🙏🏾
My condolences🙏🏾
Dayle Calton 🙏🏼❤️
This was played at my brothers funeral in 1997. He was 30 years old. This song makes me cry everytime!❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Damn man sorry bout your sister and dog man there playing fech in heaven Amen
🙏🏾
The two most powerful loves in life are a sister and a dog. Heavy stuff. It's daunting the amount of tragedy everyone has experienced, just know you aren't alone. Nothing can take away the pain but time. All we can do is honor their memory the way they would want us to and pray for the days when time has made our wounds less harsh.
ALL Babies, are ALL Playing with Jesus😘♥️
This is our funeral song here in Texas. I can't tell you how many loved one's wakes we've played this at. Tears always flow.
Thank you this is the first time I heard this song 😢 thinking of my dad and sister
My husband and I lost our only son, I know your pain! It was a tragic accident, he was gone in an instant. Sorry for your loss. 💔
Joey Robison listen to That’s my job by Conway.
There are many versions but this has always been my fav. Alison Krauss has the most angelic of voices and adding Ricky Skaggs equals perfect harmony.
Sending you such a big hug, friend!
Lost my only child Sara Jean
11-4-2002. She was 26 also. Sara would also be 43.
I am sorry for your loss. No parent should have to bury their child.
When my sister died the pain I seen in my dad's face and heard in his voice was more than I could bear. I told everyone I don't ever want to feel that level of pain
I am so very sorry for your loss 😢❤
Very sorry.
🙏❤
I'm so sorry, Sheila💔
Vince gill and patty loveless sing it the best. Listen to the George Jones memorial. Very emotional
VA HOSS I agree
I actually prefer this version. Three legendary voices (and instruments) on that stage.
I cry my eyes out every time I watch that version :-(
I agree. I personally like the original version with Patty Loveless more, but do think this is also a good one.
It's the song not who sings it listen to the words that's how you listen to country not who sings it the best!!! Dont make me regret watching and listening to this!!!
This song is beloved, and will always remind me of loved lost.
All the best.
Cheers.
I lost my grandfather back in January and listened to this song ever since
It's heart wrenching every time.
My Condolences to you on the passing of your sister... So sorry to hear of your loss...
We have such a Short time on this Earth. Cherish every single day!
Hope you are having a wonderful day may GOD bless and keep you...
So pretty
Songs of Christ will make a true Christian weep...js
This song will make anyone with a heart weep.
Jesus lover here..amen
This song isn't about Jesus, it's about Keith Whitley
@@donaldwalbruck5456 is okay with you that it makes me feel Christ...hope you can handle that. ..js
@@the1pubeman135 whatever. ..I'll pray for you
My dad had this played when he passed away. 2006 RIP Dad. He was buried on a mountain, I'll be there too. Sorry for losing your dog. It's tough
Thank you for not interrupting this beautiful song with commentary. It’s like slamming shut a book someone is reading. It kills the characters.
He sings another great song called "Whenever you come around"
Love your channel! It's funny, at a time when our world is so divided, music somehow magically brings us together.
It's hard not to shed a tear hearing this... Faces of my loved ones who have passed flash thru my mind. ... I'm sorry about your sisters passing.
Another good one is by Brad Paisley "when I get where I'm goin"
God bless!!
This song was sung at my daughter's funeral she was only 17 and to this day I cry everytime I hear it
I haven’t cried since my brother died in 2001 and I thought of this song and him then. I just cried. Thank you for this reaction.
Brian Harkness I cried too😥😥
John Gregg Tears are cleansing....
Sorry for your loss. .
@@latinagirl9613 thank you. It's something you never get over you just learn to live with it.
@@kerrywolfert5095 😪
He started writing this when Keith Whitley died but couldn't finish until his brother died.
After all, it was written towards the memory of his brother!
you're my favorite reaction video UA-camr. you're so genuine.
Yes my friend... This is a very powerful song and this version will make the strongest cry thinking about lost family, friends and pets.
GOD BLESS!!!
I love this song. We played it at my brother’s memorial service so I cry every time I hear it.
Thank you for playing this! So beautiful!! Thank you for your heartfelt reaction too. Not easy to listen to without feeling the old pain of the passing of a loved one.
This always brings tears to my eyes as I lost my brother awhile back. I certainly enjoy you doing so many great songs from the past.
@@home2624 I think that may be one of the nicest and most beautiful things I’ve read on you tube. And it made me smile. Thank you for your words. And may your days be filled with blessings and peace. I look forward to the reunion with my uncle.
@@blainstutts473 Thankyou for your reply Blain and your kind thoughts. You and your uncle are in my prayers. Im so glad my comment made you smile. That made me so happy. I know there are many tears but keep that smile with you. It will all be alright in the end and just think how big that smile will be then.
I really love what you are doing. You are bringing more people together through all of this music you have found. Keep it up and it will work. Love is always its best with music. I love you brother.
This is one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching songs ever written and performed... ❤❤
Thee super talented, ever humble Christian... Mr. Vince Gill. Amazing human. 🙏
Powerfully emotional song. Another version of him doing this song was at George Jones' tribute. Didn't think it was possible but that version is even more powerful. Bless you in your losses, my friend. Had a few myself. Hang in there, and cherish the memories.
Condolences for your sister and your dog. (I think of Elvis when I hear this song)
This song brings out so many emotions and I live through them all each time I hear this song. Thank you Vince Gill for sharing your voice and emotions with us all. As hard as it is to hear this song when from their funeral, down the road it has even more meaning and it's more soothing. I've heard it for decades and never appreciated it so strongly as with my brother's death in Oct. I always wanted to sing harmony with him to this song but had to sing solo when he passed away. He'll always be with me.
It’s amazing how this song has carried so much of Humanity through so Sorrow and help it be expressed in such a beautiful way! This song connected with me 24 years ago in such a way it was like harmonic energy carrying the souls back home!💞
