Can you cover Crystal lake devilcry
Nik, this is now considered to be the most useful video on this channel. I'm wondering if you could do the second part and add slamming death metal structure for example
Please turn top 200 into a real song

Hi Nik, can you please put the name of the outro song(s) in the description, i always think i would listen much of it, when i hear those, but don't know which song of you it is èé, anyways dope job \m/

just thought of 4 dt songs off the top of my head this works precisely for lmao
@@reptarien the dark eternal night was the first to come to mind lmao
When the song is done, insert some time shifts into what otherwise would have been straight 4/4 time signature parts and you're done.
Makes a parody, accidentally teaches about structures.
i always learn from his videos, i don't know much about music except vocals
Task failed successfully
Is this a parody? I was talking notes
I paid more attention to the arrow moving over the words than anything else.
Kobi Phimmachack couldn’t relate more 😂

I didn't notice the arrow until I read you coment lmao
you actually put some effort into these videos

Why are Rudy's comments found everywhere? And also as one of the top comments.
Marshall Zingkhai its the only sense of accomplishment I can get
Rudy Ayoub this dude is extremely talented.. j don’t think it requires a whole bunch of effort..

Structured to the core: 0:24
The Top 200 Formula: 1:30
Dude, The 90s Were The Best: 2:50
The Millennial: 4:06
Structures Shall Perish: 4:59
The Top 200 was so chilling
what metal songs would u say have that formula?
@@rubensamuel5256 The Word Alive's latest album is quite similar to the tune
Ruben Samuel sleepwalking by bring me the horizon
@@rubensamuel5256 somewhere in the album Gravity by bfmv
@@rubensamuel5256 To me it sounds like Breaking Benjamin. Their most popular song, The Diary of Jane, is really close to this structure and their sound is about the same
Man I wish you were more popular. Your writing and creativity is better than most metal bands put together imo
I appreciate the kind words my friend :)
@@NikNocturnal u want sum kind wordss?
"Aeeeeeuh"
hes beast. sick compo sick playing. sick teaching.
@@Szaidx give tab
tabs? lol im gonna learn this by ear maybe slow the video down on a few parts...these licks are great

So Aeon by Crystal Lake lol
Shawn Mitchell literally Hostage by CG lmao

The River - Wage War
Unlike WatchMoJo, when Nik is scraping the barrel it's still entertaining
roy khau Unlike Watchmojo, Nik has been entertaining.
Love this comment.
@@NikNocturnal Nice
I'll use this as a cheatlist for my own songwriting now haha
That's one of the reasons I made this video, to help out others looking for good generalized structures :)
@@NikNocturnal you have no idea what a blessing that is.
The top 200 formula sounds sick! We need a full song.
sounds like sleepwalking from bmth
Yup it sounds similar to sleep walking by bmth but like its fr soooo awesome i wish there's a full version or a song!!!
Nice EP mate! haha
Nice grindcore length 2
Thanks dude!
@@nataliagonzalez1698 Nah it's too long for grindcore imo
*It's like I'm sleepwalkiiiiing!!* 😂 (great video btw)
Thanks Marko! :)
Daaamn that was the exact song I was singing
im discusted nobody has said this is sandpit turtle yet
@@NikNocturnal i love bmth and great job im subbing rn

I'm watching this video at 3 am... now I can call myself a real Nik "Nocturnal" fan!
^^^ This
lol i'm watching the same video at the same time after 3 weeks of your comment XD
It’s only 1:30 in the morning, so not quite there yet
The top 200 formula is my fav one.. No matter how many time i listen this kind of structure based song. I love it. When the drop comes out suddenly from nowhere that's the lovely part
As a vocalist struggling to piece the vocals in seeing this and how all the arrows correlated with the instrumentals makes it MUCH easier to work with!!!! Thanks for the video man!
You make the perfect mini-"lessons" imo. these examples are great and it's a perfect follow up to the progressions video. plus it's not *actually* a lesson; it's got a good mix of info and fun!
I'm honestly thinking of using this as a reference for song writing 😂
I'm glad you enjoy them :)
Rockinsteadyful me too actually XD
Yea felt very informative, I was learning structures, never heard of them till now, having fun, and listening to some good tunes. Hidden lesson is best lesson
This is insane!! I’m fine with a 20min video for next time....
Thank you :)
1: Wage War
2: The New Bullet for My Valentine album, oh so much
3: Killswitch Engage
4: The Crystal Lake song Ups and Downs. (So many breakdowns... Some say that Ryo still tells you that this isn't the end)
5: All Shall Perish I assume
2. Bring Me The Horizon (the chorus was literally Sleepwalking by BMTH) or Bad Omens imo
2. is really BFMV's new album. It sounds so much like it. All that's missing is some crappy electronics
Pretty much
2. It's literally Katatonia, their album since 2006
The last - Breakdown of Sanity also
90s were the best= moshing in my room with the cats
😂💀
SECRET STRUCTURE UNLOCKED: "OCEANS ATE ALASKA"!
Syncopated Odd Time Signature Dithering x4, Chorus, More Syncopated, Chorus, Breakdown
Seriously though, OAA is fantastic, but their structures and style are erratic and crazy!
Thats what makes them good, eh ?
Pretty much
Im seeing them for the 2nd time this friday! Watching their drummer live is absolutely insane
The whole band is insane. OOA does some pretty cool stuff, and some really WEIRD stuff too (listen to this intro: ua-cam.com/video/bvyqkKtF6YQ/v-deo.html), but overall I really enjoy their works. I won't lie though, it's going to be a while before I can play any of their stuff. I'm already chasing Nik in that I'm trying to get as good as he is, but it's gonna take forever.
These need to be full songs, they sounded so good
I feel like the Metallica Fade to Black/Sanitarium/One/Day That Never Comes structure needs some attention, because they're all formatted the same way: intro, intro solo, verse, chorus, interlude solo, verse, chorus, bridge, long outro solo
This video is INSANELY helpful and really gives me an idea as to where I should even start in WRITING my own songs, and how to build my riffs accordingly.
"90s were the best" should be an actual song 😂👌❤️
I honestly love these videos and find them very helpful. You lay simple foundations for bands in the writing process.
Thank you for the kind words Crayton! :)
@@NikNocturnal You're most welcome, brother 🤘
The Top 200 Formula is my Favorite because the chorus in the beginning gives you instant chills :3
It's one of my personal favorites as well :)
Those were some super sick riffs dude. Blows away anything written by other big channels. Keep it up man.
I don't know where the hell I've been all this time, but I'm glad I discovered this channel. Kickass riffs, you're clearly a talented musician. I can't wait to see more of your content!
This is even more helpful as I'm trying to write my own album revolving around some of my most favorite bands and yet I'm stuck in composing phase! Thanks Nik ❤️
If you are stuck, change tuning, really helps most of the time. Facgce and open and drop tunings work very well.
Glad it helped :)
Yes! Please make a lesson explaining scales and modes!
Your explanations are very clear and helpful!
Love the content!
Thanks for making this man. Seriously helpful. My writing's been a bit off, now I can see what I've been forgetting. Seriously , thank you.
Rammstein Structure:
Keyboard intro (but on fire), verse, verse2, chorus, verse, verse3, chorus (on fire again), keyboard/bridge (you can put some fire here too), chorus, verse1, verse2 ❤️
I just wanted to take a second to thank you for making this video- it never fails to inspire me and the song structures are all useful and never really seem to fail me. I would greatly appreciate if you would make the 20 minutes version- I would love to see what other song structures you’ve compiled as this current one practically serves as my bible!
So I actually really liked the vibe of Top 200 Formula, and the chorus and breakdown of The Millenial, played in sequence, actually just sounded like one dope riff
Definitely go for Millennial, need a breakdown after every chorus.
Being a composer of a different genre, this was actually pretty handy for ideas on how to structure my songs differently. I actually came up with ideas from this. lol
This will genuinely help me so much to start writing songs, thank you
It's cool to see unique content AND actually good music with it. I'd actually jam to all of these songs. Keep it up Nik!!
Thanks Marshall! :)
Nik Nocturnal Hey! No problem! Keep drinking those water bottle bro. Gotta hydrate! Also, great tone as always! 👌✌️🤘
Nailed it! Absolutely spot on! And all the songs are structured so well I would actually jam to them.
My band usually uses a variation of "Dude, the 90's were the best", without solo and ending with a "chorus 2".
But we also had a song with this structure: Intro, Chorus, Verse, verse 2, chorus x2 :D
Also, we have one with Intro, Verse, break, verse 2, breakdown, breakdown 2, verse, break, verse
All of these are badass! The first two structures are def my faves. Kinda neat to watch this because it'll actually help me with structuring new songs haha. Keep up the great work!
These are all pretty great songs. Would love to hear full versions of each
This is awesome, thanks for making this. Going from riff to song is always the hardest part for me.
i need tabs for the Top 200..... That sounds so good, dude, holy hell.
Here's what i have so far:
*Tuning:* Drop C
*Verse: (with delay)*
D |--------------------------------------------------------------------
A |--10--------------------------------------------------------------
F |-------------9-----10(bend)-----9------9-----10(bend) x2, but make the last note an 11 on the A string the second time you play it.
C |-------7-------7-----------------7------7----7------------------
D |---------------------------------------------------------------------
C |----------------------------------------------------------------------
*Chorus:*
Bar the 8th fret
Bar the 5th fret
Play what would be a D chord in E Standard
Bar the 3rd
*Verse: (with delay)*
D |-----------------------------
A |--------------------6-------
F |-------------9--------------
C |---7---------------------7
D |----------------------------
C |----------------------------
*Verse 2:*
D |--5-------------------------
A |--6------------------------
F |--7------------------------
C |--7------------------------
D |--5------------------------
C |--0-------------------------
Follow the strumming pattern he plays in the video, I'm too lazy to write it all out.
@@kaipark1649 You are the absolute best. Thank you so much!!!!!
@@apatheticollie1169 no problem!
Absolutely freaking well done, wow!
I want these to be actual songs so bad, I high key vibe with the first two.
Structures shall perish might have to be my favoriteXD. Just because it’s so true and funny. I like songs with weird structures. Texas in July: Hook Line and sinner is an example of one like that
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
5:01 Some call it the Nik Nokturnal Structure
:O
Dude this was one of my favorite videos by you. These were all awesome I really liked the 90s and the top songs of the 200
Keep up the awesome work!
Glad you enjoyed it! :D
How many breakdowns would you like:
Modern metal: yes
I think you really nailed this one! The millenial sounds like Born of Osiris. The structures shall perish sounds like Vildhjarta
Tool:
What is a song structure?
The Top 200 Formula might be my favourite one on this list. Holy smokes, I would love it if there was a full version of that.
Glad you liked it!
God. I feel like the Millennial was really short lol. I guess we just don't have attention span for long songs.
Speak for yourself.
I see wat u did thar
They're all like half the time he said
r/wooosh
speak for yourse
Top 200 sounded amazing!, the chorus is so damn good
The Korn
Verse, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Verse, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Verse, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Verse, Breakdown, Pre Chorus, Chorus.
some of the most enjoyable things ive seen lately dude keep up the good work
I don't know why, but the first verse on "90's were the best" reminds me of Motorhead. Also, Awsome vídeo Nik.
Thank you!
Sorry hii h
I wish I could hear a full song version of some of those riffs man, holy shit, those breakdowns are thicc with an extra "c"
Thank you :)
Structure oceano: breakdown, breakdown, more breakdown, chorus breakdown, heavy breakdown, slooooow heavy breakdown
Essentially.
Your riffs sound good as hell as usual. I'm gonna check out some of your tracks.
And then there's ABR: I do what I want when I want!
(Although I'm sure they do often have structure)
Almost all early abr have structures in this video. Their later albums are more proggy tho.
ABR is Riff 1a, Riff 2, breakdown 1, Riff 3, Riff 1b, Riff 4, Breakdown 2, Breakdown 3.
Then random salsa melody
I love "the top 200 formula" :D
You should totally make full songs with these lol
Yess, that'd be great :'D
Wow ! Your videos are turned in a humoristic way but they're inspiring ! Thanks !
You should make a video of your own riffs! For example like a Nik Nocturnal evolution or smth.
These videos include all riffs he comes up with for these videos. He also has his own music.
I love all of the riffs for each structure
Saw the thumbnail and thought you were covering a Structures song 😔
If only.
Serious, all of these songs are absolute BANGERS!!
1:33 should be called "bring me the structure"
I see wat u did tharr
Structures shall perish was my favorite. Good shit man
The "Old School Dragonforce"
Intro, Intro 2, Verse, Pre-chorus, Chorus, Instrumental lead, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Instrumental Lead, Bridge, Solo over Verse, Solo over Pre-chorus, Solo over Chorus, Solo over a new rhythm, Post Solo Bridge, Chorus, Chorus but up a key, Outro
And yes, I'm a Dragonforce fan XD
I'd listen to all of these except the last one. You write some pretty catchy stuff.
The top 200 Formula looked like every posthardcore single since A Day To Remember sold out 😂
Man that final breakdown on structures shall parish melted my face.
Glad you liked it!
The Top 200 was great.. The atmosphere
have some recommendations of songs with it?
Dr. FranXX sleepwalking-bring me the horizon (kinda sounds similar)
I can always find comfort in life when I listen to a nik nocturnal breakdown....
If you could write "Structured to the Core" into a full song, that would be awesome.
i was thinking the same thing, it sounds so beautiful i wish it lasted longer! even if it doesn't have lyrics, it would be a great song
It's a delight to hear you play
The top 200 chorus had the same progression as Sleepwalking (minus the last chord)
I like when each section of structure encapsulates like half a song’s worth of structure.
"Dude the 90's were the best" sounds like DevilDriver - Burning Sermon, lol
This man would’ve deadass just released a ep if he put these in full
please give me tabs for the top 200
I know this video is older but I'm in a band that is just starting to make music and we are struggling to actually find out how to write it and everything, so I appreciate the content
Top 200 formula
Aka the bullet for my valentine structure
FWould love to hear all these songs full lenght 😄 epic man
I think the best structure is:
Breakdown.
Definitely helps with song writing ideas. Just getting my feet wet with writing and having a hard time structuring/developing songs.
Next video is going to be 'most used types of musical career'
Oooo that's an interesting idea. Would take a lot of creativity to pull off though.
That C-7 is beautiful. I've wanted one for so long.
Weekly dank meme presented by nik 💓
;)
I would love if you made some more vids like this Mr.Nocturnal
"Structures shall perish" already sounds like a metal band
There is a band called structures and one called all shall perish...
Structures shall perish. I must hear a full song that wasn’t long enough I could hear that dragged out for like 8 minutes. Please do that shit was sick
