- Anti-semitism campaigners have reacted with anger after a Metropolitan Police officer was filmed telling a Jewish woman swastikas being displayed during a pro-Palestinian march in London needed to be “taken in context”.
Footage uploaded to social media showed a Jewish complaining to an officer about placards bearing Nazi symbols being carried by anti-Israeli demonstrators.
During the exchange the woman challenged the officer about whether displaying a swastika was against the law.

On Oct 14th last, I saw HAMAS images openly on display at a pro-Palestinian demo in Aberdeen. I attempted to make a complaint to 4 police officers present, but they totally refused to take any action. The following day, I made a complaint to Police Scotland regarding the incident. What followed was unbelievable. Firstly I was informed during the first phone interaction, that displaying said images was a freedom of expression issue. I was informed two months later, that I had made no so such complaint and so on. Long story short is this, P.S. professional standards have still not assigned an officer to investigate after six months. Should any journalist seeing this post please feel free to contact me as I have a fully recorded account of the above. I say here P.S. have been obstructive to the point of being antisemitic.

I think the officer came off very well. Tried to explain the law and his deployment for the day but she wouldn't listen. She didn't like his answer so she just kept repeating the same question over and over.
the police forces are as trapped as we are. most can't leave for similar reasons other people can't just change careers just like that - they cannot strike and also rarely have the resources to actually be effective in 2024 England.

This is just an outrage. The woman should make a formal complaint about these officers. In my opinion it can only be one context. Try it in Germany.
I would encourage the officer to explain to her that that symbol has been used for thousands of years by many different cultures and civilizations, for different purposes. So context is actually very important. I don't think that's an answer she'd understand, though.

The policeman is refusing to take it in context. A swastika in India is not anti semitic. A backwards swastika at an anti Israel march most definitely is.

A swastika symbol isnt necessarily anti semetic , the context they would be referring to is that at this rally, it would definitely be provocative and not used for anything but, so this copper is not even close to stating a fair argument .

This is beyond belief. Totally crazy. This policeman does not know enough and his training is woefully short of relevant substance to allow him to do a job of this nature. The woman is right: there is no "context" in which carrying a swastika at the rally is not going to be upsetting and alarming to a large number of people.

He's a Met cop. It's unreasonable to expect him to behave with attentive courtesy when the member of the public he's dealing with happens to be a woman.
as soon as I saw this last night, I thought how disrespectful, to be drinking coffee while interacting with the people he is supposed to be serving. In another bit of footage. he swirls his cup with the liquid to mix it, and then drains his cup while stalling for time trying to work out what hes going to say. Totally incongruous, drinking on duty, if hes having a break, then go have his break in his car or somewhere quiet, but overseeing a public demonstration while drinking coffee just does not instil the public with respect for this policeman. Plus I think he needs to familiarise himself with the laws of the land before he goes on duty.
