He'd gotten slow and old in latest movie. Not to mention all the drama that he had to go through dealing with his abusive "wife" in his last 6-7 years.
I love everything about how Jack is portrayed in this scene. When he’s surrounded by Davy Jones crew he makes an epic getaway to face Jones 1 on 1, you get to see some empathy from him when he says “I can set you free mate”, he tricks Jones into showing him the key and beats him in a duel, the “Oi! My pistol!” line and him shooting the chest out of Jones hand is awesome, then he does some sick stunts and is ready to fight Jones again before remembering his sword broke so he picks up a log and fights him with that, then when Will is killed he gives up what he wanted so badly to save his friends life. Such a perfect scene.
I love that pistol scene but the gunsmith in me cringes so much. In good weather, smooth bore, round ball, your chance of hitting your tiny target in ideal conditions is less then 10%.... in that weather its probably less then 0.10%. I always liked the end scene. Jack always portrayed himself as selfish, narcissistic, and arrogant, but when Davy Jones stabbed Will, the look of horror he has. Despite all the times they were at odds with each other, Will was his friend, he cared about him, and it scared to see him dying. And in the end, he chose to give up the immortality he so desperately he wanted to save his friend.
The filmmakers cared about lighting, interation with human characters, using physical props/references where they could, giving the effects people enough time to polish. Alot of the same reasons why Jurrassic Park (1993) looks better than any recent jurrassic world films.
It’s a combination of a huge budget and the incredible use of practical effects. For example they built a fully sized Flying Dutchmen which they used for the 2nd and 3rd films.
Good ol pirate accents are a mix of multiple countries ranging from good ol English to the deep parts of Scandanavia due to the diversity of ship crews not to mention accents they pick up along the voyage That "mercy" sounded French
CGI is great for movies... If its used reasonabily. If you cut time and budget and make 90% of the movie by computer, it looks like crap. Quality should be above quantity.

Same! I never watched these films back when they first came out, but I wish I did! I watched them with my brother for the first time a year ago, and I seriously want to rewatch them now. It just sucks that the only way you can is through Disney Plus 🤮
Jack's powers of balance are unbelievable. Gets zipped up to a mast and, in the wind, rain on a moving ship, at at angle, managed to stay on it. Amazing.
It’s amazing how well jack was able to hold his own, considering he’s considered the worst swordsman in the canon. While Elizabeth and Will were easily defeated
@user-jr3zr2mp9c On the screenwriters' commentry for the first movie they state as much. According to them, Will is the best swordsman in the film, followed by Barbossa and James Norrington, who are on equal grounds, and that Jack was the worst. It is inconsistent with what's actually portrayed on the screen though, since Jack clearly matches Barbossa in their duel at the end of the first film, and he is the only one who holds his own against Jones in this film (you could argue that he actually beats Jones since he disarms Jones, whereas Will and Elizabeth were beaten in seconds). Norrington is the only one who has actually beaten Jack in a duel (he disarms him in the three-way duel in the second film), but you could argue that Jack wasn't actually interested in the duel itself as his focus was on obtaining the key to the Dead Man's Chest, whereas Norrington was genuinely trying to kill Jack.
@@kingofthering3343they probably meant it more from a technical or skill related sense of being better. We know Barbosa is extremely good with the sword, same with will and norrington who both practice a ton, while Jack isn't quite as good on a technical level but covers for it by using his brain in combat to pull of tricks or confuse his enemy. The only fight it seems he took completely seriously was his duel with Jones, where he showed that perfectly, using everything he had to his advantage. Against Barbosa jack was smart enough to be cursed before starting the duel, and his win condition wasn't to beat Barbosa in a duel, but for will to get the treasure to the chest and break the curse, meaning he had no reason to fight seriously. In dmc, he never really took the 3-way duel seriously because he doesn't really care who gets the chest, as if will gets it so what, and if norrington gets it both him and will will probably stop him before anything happens.
1:10 Honestly, everything about that sequence. The camera direction, the music, the editing, the coreography, the special effects, the sound design, the transitions. This is Disney at it's peak, and still is by far their best Action film.

These movies (meaning the first three) were amazing. I loved seeing them as a child and I love watching them to this day. When I look around me these days I realise I never should’ve taken such good filmmaking for granted.
I remember every scene of these movies. Johnny made it so believable jack was scarred of jones but also confident in his skills at the same time, i mean when you view it from that point, jack bodied him in their duel
i thought bro was just lost af until i realized thats the sword that will forged at the beginning of the movies, the one that has been constantly admired and complimented for its beauty, that jones had been using until jack knocked it out of his hands earlier in their fight above. guy mustve just picked it up and was admiring it until davy jones dropped down and shanked him lol
It's an outstanding performance by those actors... Truly a masterpiece movie... But the character jack Sparrow he is a show stopper in this franchisee.... I don't remember how many times have seen this movie and this particular seen OMG truly magnificent screenplay and direction....
This final battle went so hard and we didn't realize it that late like dude, its a carribean ship battle on a maelstrom and the two characters are on the mast fighting like bro
Of course because he had him cornered but then he caught Jack in a loop stabbing Will putting Jack in a spot If only Jack stabbed his heart before Davy got Will then Will would have been freed
I remember Jack Sparrow vs Davy Jones was such an anticipated fight and man they delivered especially with Han Zimmer score. That made it 10 times better!!
I like how you can clearly see Jack's ability to think on the fly with some of his own luck thrown into the mix. Break the thing that holds the sail down to make a get away, and be lucky to even stick the landing. Luckily an enemy with his pistol was swinging by, immediately shoots the chest out of Davy Jones' Hand-Tentacle thing. Sword is a no go, use the log instead. Oh, look, the Key is crawling by.
Let's be honest, while build up to Endgame was great, final battle setting was extremely underwhelming. Here? Fighting on top of the mast of the ship in the middle of Maelstrom during thunderstorm? Setting alone elevates scene to 10/10.
@@simpleneeds2582 Honestly I didn't mind that particular part that much. It was cringe, but also so corny and cute that I overlook it given more significant issues. if this is a game, jack's intellegence and precisions would be over the roof lol
1:17, Jack's intelligence in play. Made Jones tell him about the key's location.
Jack: I already have the key?!
Davy: No you don't!
Jack: GOTTA B!+@H
3:09 That entrance and landing by Jack is awesome!... Until he realizes he only has half a sword.
He's like: wait,oh.
It was at this moment that he knew...
He f*cked up
The face he makes. 😂
It's basically a dagger now
0:43 And all this chaos only because in that chest were the last tickets for the SpongeBob SquarePants movie.
"You're a cruel man, Jack Sparrow"
Ngl I felt bad for Davy Jones at this point.
1:06 this scene gets me every time, the move of the camera and the soundtrack are epic
Out of everyone there, Cotton is the absolute bravest for grabbing the runaway wheel
How exactly does 2007 CGI look better than todays?
The filmmakers cared about lighting, interation with human characters, using physical props/references where they could, giving the effects people enough time to polish.
Alot of the same reasons why Jurrassic Park (1993) looks better than any recent jurrassic world films.
It’s a combination of a huge budget and the incredible use of practical effects. For example they built a fully sized Flying Dutchmen which they used for the 2nd and 3rd films.
@@nonameman7114they should go back to that. It’s better
@@davisjohnson7691 they should but given how Disney handled the sequels I doubt they will.
They has passion back then nowadays it’s all about making money.
4:00 "Mercy" what that accent hahah
Good ol pirate accents are a mix of multiple countries ranging from good ol English to the deep parts of Scandanavia due to the diversity of ship crews not to mention accents they pick up along the voyage
That "mercy" sounded French

This film still looks 300x better than most films that Marvel puts out today
Exactly
What happened to Disney lol
True 😂😂
CGI is great for movies...
If its used reasonabily. If you cut time and budget and make 90% of the movie by computer, it looks like crap.
Quality should be above quantity.
I never got to experience this movie in Theaters, and i wish i did.
The fun and the experience of watching this at home during Christmas time in 2007, with some pizza and root beer: humbling gratitude. ❤
Another one of my favorite movies of all time 🎬🎥🎞
Same! I never watched these films back when they first came out, but I wish I did! I watched them with my brother for the first time a year ago, and I seriously want to rewatch them now. It just sucks that the only way you can is through Disney Plus 🤮
Jones knew Jack would never bind himself to the Dutchman for eternity. He just didn't expect that Jack would still be instrumental in his death.
Likewise Jack hoped for Jones to surrender once he got hold of his heart and didnt count on Jones stabbing Will.
Jack's powers of balance are unbelievable. Gets zipped up to a mast and, in the wind, rain on a moving ship, at at angle, managed to stay on it. Amazing.
Must be a counterweight to his inability to stay balanced on land.
Our boy's home really is the sea (and with copious amounts of rum).

It’s amazing how well jack was able to hold his own, considering he’s considered the worst swordsman in the canon. While Elizabeth and Will were easily defeated
Jacks not afraid to fight dirty lol he went for the tentacles and used the chest
@@vinnie9458 true bro fight not like a swordsman hahahaha he fight like a pirate plus he is smart if only he's not drunk with the rum xD
Wsit he's the worst? How do you know?
1:10
Honestly, everything about that sequence.
The camera direction, the music, the editing, the coreography, the special effects, the sound design, the transitions.
This is Disney at it's peak, and still is by far their best Action film.
It's still very tragic that, as his life ebbs away, Davy Jones' final thought was to his lost love.

That guy's an absolute monster

you mean "A lost birdah that never learned to flyah"
These movies (meaning the first three) were amazing. I loved seeing them as a child and I love watching them to this day. When I look around me these days I realise I never should’ve taken such good filmmaking for granted.
Both Will and Elizabeth couldn't beat Jones but Jack was able to hold his own alone
I mean, Will straight up just backstabbed Jones through the chest.
"In a fair fight I'd kill you"
"Well there's not much incentive for me to fight fair now is it?"
Hold his own? Jack absolutely bodied jones. If it wasn’t for him being invincible he would’ve lost
That's the awesome part about Jack, he most of the time he tries to run from his problems but when he does fight, he's a force to be reckoned with.
@@camoking3609 😂😂😂 That's a really good line from Captain Jack...I'm stealin it Lol.

I remember every scene of these movies. Johnny made it so believable jack was scarred of jones but also confident in his skills at the same time, i mean when you view it from that point, jack bodied him in their duel

no u cant forget bro at 2:39, he was just confused, he didnt know what a sword was
That dude was dumb and deserved to die. Who the fuck inspects a sword in the middle of a battle, *with the blade pointed at them?!?*
i thought bro was just lost af until i realized thats the sword that will forged at the beginning of the movies, the one that has been constantly admired and complimented for its beauty, that jones had been using until jack knocked it out of his hands earlier in their fight above. guy mustve just picked it up and was admiring it until davy jones dropped down and shanked him lol
The little look of realization at 3:24 is so good. Like, "What am I doing? I'm better than this."
I don’t know why but I love this fight so much, it just so perfect
My fav part is 0:52 and the music is just great

It's an outstanding performance by those actors... Truly a masterpiece movie...
But the character jack Sparrow he is a show stopper in this franchisee....
I don't remember how many times have seen this movie and this particular seen OMG truly magnificent screenplay and direction....
This final battle went so hard and we didn't realize it that late like dude, its a carribean ship battle on a maelstrom and the two characters are on the mast fighting like bro
If only the context wasn’t two ships fighting while two massive fleets just sitting there and don’t doing anything …
Ohh boii, I remember watching this Movie in Cinema.. it was soo silent after this Scene went out .. just EPIC!
Oh, the sweet days when one could watch a movie with Johnny Depp (and Geoffrey Rush, too), without feeling sadly confused or guilty or frustrated.
5:26 You could see the fear on Davy Jones' face for a second as Jack Sparrow held his heart.
Of course because he had him cornered but then he caught Jack in a loop stabbing Will putting Jack in a spot
If only Jack stabbed his heart before Davy got Will then Will would have been freed
Davy jones gotta stop pulling out the key whenever someone asks for it
I remember Jack Sparrow vs Davy Jones was such an anticipated fight and man they delivered especially with Han Zimmer score. That made it 10 times better!!
Jacks little run away at 3.20 gets me every time 🤣🤣
I like how you can clearly see Jack's ability to think on the fly with some of his own luck thrown into the mix.
0:44-1:06 has such an epic fight scene and amazing music that would make even avengers endgame shiver
Let's be honest, while build up to Endgame was great, final battle setting was extremely underwhelming. Here? Fighting on top of the mast of the ship in the middle of Maelstrom during thunderstorm? Setting alone elevates scene to 10/10.

That's so sad. He's completely given up trying to be happy.
Sad Watching this knowing we will never see jack sparrow like this again. He's almost a broken man in 4 and 5. Not the same jack as he was in the first 3 films.
Id say he's not that broken in 4, he does act like the Sparrow from pirates 1 2 and 3, but he is different. A little more cold at the end maybe but hey it's not like Angela was going to die or anything from old age. Maybe starvation.
